Nigeria plans elite force to fight kidnapping Abuja, Sep 16 (PTI) Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan is seeking to train an elite strike force to fight the increasing rate of kidnapping and insecurity in the country, especially within the oil-rich Niger Delta region. "It should be stated unequivocally that investing in the state-of-the-art crime fighting technologies would be meaningless without a corresponding investment in well- trained, well-equipped and highly mobile elite strike force capable of responding speedily to these hostile kidnap situations," he said at the inaugural internal security summit in Abuja today. The president said the use of small arms and other dangerous weapons in the country by such groups required critical attention. Oil rich Nigeria which is the most populous country in Africa has witnessed increased number of abduction in recent times and elections have been scheduled for January 2011 raising the fear that desperate politicians may recruit kidnappers. "No responsible government would fold its arms and watch its citizen wriggle in pain under the yoke of insecurity posed by criminal groups bent on destroying the very fabric of society." For many years, militants who engaged in resource control war in the oil rich Niger Delta region have been abducting foreign oil workers. They recently started going for locals. Jonathan has promised to continue with an amnesty programme designed to pardon and rehabilitate the militants which was commenced by his successor late president Umaru Musa Yar''Adua who died early this year. http://news.in.msn.com/international/article.aspx?cp-documentid=4391085 |

Don’t Trust IBB, Group Begins Media Campaign Author: Date: Sep 16th, 2010. As opposition mounts against former military dictator, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, IBB, (retd) over his ambition to contest next year’s presidential election, a group has warned Nigerians not to trust him. The group, Association for Better Nigeria, ABN, which appears to be the cloned version of the same group IBB floated to scuttle his own transition programme, denounced IBB in a paid advertorial in some national newspapers today. The media campaign against IBB is coming barely 24 hours after he declared his intention to contest next year’s presidential election in Abuja yesterday. According to ABN, IBB lacks integrity and as such he should not be trusted. Comparing IBB with President Jonathan in the advertorial titled: Who Will You Trust? with the photographs of both men boldly displayed on the page, the group chronicled the promises Jonathan kept alongside those of IBB that he failed to keep when he ruled Nigeria as a military dictator between 27 August, 1985 and 26 August, 1993. Said the group: “Goodluck Jonathan promised to appoint a credible INEC chair. He kept his word by appointing Prof. Jega, a credible civil society activist as chair of INEC.” On the other hand, IBB “promised to hand over power to civilians in 1990. He betrayed his word by dribbling the Nigerian people.” ABN further stated that “Goodluck Jonathan promised to protect the independence of INEC. He kept his word by removing INEC Commissioners who were alleged to have PDP sympathy,” while IBB “promised to hand over to civilians in 1992,” but “betrayed his word by shifting it to 1993.” Another major promise IBB failed to keep as highlighted by the group was the one he made to “Chief MKO Abiola, his close friend, business associate and prime supporter, that he would hand over to him if he won the election.” But IBB “betrayed his word by annulling a free and fair election won by MKO Abiola.” The group also listed other promises kept by Jonathan, including the release of N87 billion to INEC to enable it conduct free, fair and credible elections and the signing of the Electoral Act which many thought was against his interest. The group concluded its campaign against IBB by saying “the new Nigeria is only possible with leaders who keep their word.” Babangida ruled Nigeria for eight years during which the nation’s economy was ruined because of the economic policies he introduced, like the Structural Adjustment Programme, SAP, and the devaluation of the naira. The nation is yet to recover from the negative effects of those policies. It has also been established that Babangida is one of the most hated former Nigerian leaders because of the obnoxious anti-people policies he introduced; the annulment of June 12 presidential election won by his friend, the late Abiola; entrenchment of corruption during his regime, closure of media houses and detention and murder of journalists by his administration. All these are still haunting the retired general 17 years after he was forced to step aside. —Ada Owojela http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2010/09/16/dont-trust-ibb-group-begins-media-campaign/ |
Onlytruth:Professor Humphrey Nwosu invented Option A4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humphrey_Nwosu . . .The question is, what happened to him? What was IBB's reaction? Those are the giant killing questions. |

I was old enough at the time to be on Ikorodu Road, rioting against IBB's regime. We stopped an amoured column from Ikeja cantonement with nothing but will power and bare chests; by the end of the next day, some of us were dead, shot to pieces by IBB's goons. But we pesevered and the demon fled govt. How can we today, allow the same murdering, lying, thieving, decieving, cheating, immoral scumbag back to power? That man should be at bar beach, tied to sand filled oil drums awaiting the executioners order and the clicks of a million triggers. This is Dele Giwa. . . Bukola Saraki is in danger of short circuiting his political career with his ill conceived shenanigans. Already, he is having to hurriedly resign as head of the Governors Forum, because there is an open movement to topple him. @kola_yusuf Poor you. |
I pity Nigeria and tribalism. So who is a Northerner by these peoples reckoning? On the other hand, Saraki is IBB's stooge, he has nothing to do with Obj. |
Northern group disowns Saraki By Salmanu Jafardeen September 16, 2010 07:25AM The Arewa Integrity Forum has concluded plans to stage a grand demonstration against the presidential aspiration of the Kwara State governor, Bukola Saraki, the Coordinator of the Forum, Abdulmumini Adamu, said yesterday in Kaduna. Mr Abdulmumini told a press conference Wednesday in Kaduna that Mr Saraki’s presidential aspiration is not in the interest of the north and that northerners were not in support of his ambition. He alleged that Mr Saraki was playing a script of Yoruba agenda, adding that the information available to them was that the Kwara governor is from Abeokuta, and was working on a plan hatched by a former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, who is also from Abeokuta. “His root is from there and we as northerners, we will not bless his aspiration,” the AIF leader said. “As we are all aware, Bukola is a stooge and also a spoiler who will use the northern platform to achieve his political interest. We have information that the former President Obasanjo is the one that is sponsoring Bukola.” Mr Abdulmumini further stated that his group would not allow Mr Saraki to speak on behalf of the north. He also alleged that the reason behind the formation of the Northern Union being led by Mr Olusola Saraki, father of the Kwara State governor, was owing to the refusal of the Arewa Consultative Forum to allow him into their midst. He said his group was resolved to frustrate the plan of the governor to claim the northern leadership mantle. “Therefore we, as the northerners, resolved to disown him and we will not support his candidature,” he said. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5619482-146/northern_group_disowns_saraki__.csp |
This is what IBB did to Dele Giwa (RIP). |
The three governors that attended the event at the Eagle Square in Abuja were Dr. Aliyu Babangida (Niger); Alhaji Mamudu Shinkafi (Zamfara) and Alhaji Murtala Nyako (Adamawa). The governor of Zamfara is IBB's inlaw, so we can subtract him and say only two govs attended!!! ![]() Really sad state of affairs for the murdering and thieving ex-general!!! ![]() |
Throughout yesterday, each time I fed "Babangida" into google news, 90% of the results were things like, "Jonathan declares," "Nigerian President to run" etc etc etc. Nobody really gave a fck whether IBB was at either Eagle or Vulture Square. In politics, you outmaneuver your opponent, and yesterday, IBB was serially outmaneuvered! So today, the followers of the self styled "maradona" are on a social network, doing guess what? . . .Reaching to other users of the social network and trying foolishly to convince them that social networks do not matter in the scheme of things! Damn! Somebody tell them they are terminally lost and have zero clue of whats going on! IBB people = Foolish people |
So Saraki, the IBB implant might quit? Concerned about his political future since he is in his second and last tenure as governor, Saraki has been nursing the ambition of contesting for the president but his geo-political zone, North Central, which has always played a tangential role in Northern politics was an impediment. The experience of his father, Olusola Saraki, who had vied for the presidency in the botched third Republic, is enough for him to fall back on. In the heat of the politics of that period, the elder Saraki had to add Abubakar to his name to appear acceptable to the Northern political elite. Even with that he didn’t go far.Lolz |
2011: Saraki may drop presidential bid Thursday, 16 September 2010 01:20 Max Amuchie There are indications that Kwara State governor, Bukola Saraki, may drop his touted ambition to contest the 2011 presidential election. BusinessDay investigations reveal that the Governors’ Forum, the plank on which the Kwara State governor intends to use as base for his campaign is not behind him. A source close to one of the Northern governors of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said Saraki merely assumed that as chairman of the Governors’ Forum in the last few years, once he declared an intention to contest, the governors would stand by him. The source said what convinced Saraki to think that way was the general complaint by the governors that President Goodluck Jonathan had sidelined them in taking certain critical decisions like when the president nominated ministers and appointed members of the Presidential Advisory Council (PAC) headed by Theophillus Danjuma. The governors had also complained about the way the party chairman, Okwesilieze Nwodo, whose appointment was influenced by Jonathan, had sought to whittle down the influence of the state chief executives immediately he assumed office as replacement for erstwhile chairman, Vincent Ogbulafor. The Governors’ Forum under Saraki’s watch had initially stood in the way of then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan being made acting president at the time the late President Umaru Yar’Adua was admitted at the King Faisal Hospital and Research Centre, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. When he (Jonathan) was eventually made acting president through motions passed by chambers of the National Assembly, the Governors’ Forum also tried to limit his powers till he gradually stabilised in office. When the office of vice president became vacant following the death of Yar’Adua and consequently with the swearing in of Jonathan as president, Saraki was among governors who were in the race before the governor of Kaduna State, Namadi Sambo, was picked. Even with that he didn’t go far. The younger Saraki is perceived by the North as being more Southerner than Northerner but that perception has somehow being diluted by the desperation of the core Northern political elite to stop President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2011 election in view of the PDP zoning arrangement which retains the presidency in the North till 2015. http://www.businessdayonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=13561:2011-saraki-may-drop-presidential-bid&catid=85:national&Itemid=340 |
2011: PDP releases compressed guidelines for primaries •Grants Atiku Waiver Written by Idowu Samuel, Abuja Thursday, 16 September 2010 The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday, released a compressed guidelines for its primary elections, indicating that the primaries would kick off in October 2, with special congresses elections at state assemblies nationwide. The guidelines were released shortly after the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party rose from its meeting at the party’s national secretariat, with the approval of the draft guidelines presented to it by the National Working Committee (NWC). Governorship aspirants are expected to pay the sum of N5 million to collect the nomination forms and N500,000 as expression of interest fee. The guidelines indicated that the primaries for governorship aspirants would hold between October 6 and 8, to be followed by the National Assembly primaries between October 12 and 14.
