Sky Blue: Would like to get my hands on that bill. I am not against points 1 (depending on how much we are talking of), nothing wrong with pensions if it would encourage govenors to focus solely on the task of governance, instead of trying to then "get ready" for when they are out of office towards the end of their term which seems to be the case a lot of the time. Number of vehicles and policemen need to be reduced. What is definitely overkill is the 2 houses and furniture allowance. It shows disconnect and insensitivity towards the populace. Again, need to see that bill. Those 2 houses and furniture allowance definitely must be removed from that bill, quite audacious to have had them here to begin with. Well said. Even if the money seems little, it could go a very long way to saving poor families instead. |

A situation whereby oil is found in the oil producing part of Abia state but the most of the money gotten from the derivation is used to service the towns in Abia state that don't produce zilch is worrying. Thats right. The LG should be the bedrock of development (for derivationa and everything else). Thats the way it is everywhere in the World apart from Nigeria. The way we all rely on the FG is shocking and counter-productive. We will never ever develope with this current system, it is a trap we keep falling deeper and deeper into with every passing day. And it isn't an easy trap to extricate ourselves from, because ethnicity has replaced merit in our collective judgement. |

The incessant sponsored media attack on the family of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo by the former governor of Lagos State and sole-financier of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mr. Bola Tinubu has been described as an insult on the entire Yoruba race, that hold the late sage in a very high esteem.
The Yoruba Youths Consultative Forum (YYCF) in its reaction to an article written by The Nation newspaper's Editorial Chairman, Mr. Sam Omatseye titled; “AWO FAMILY WITHOUT AN AWO,” said it was sacrilegious for Tinubu to be using his newspaper, The Nation to denigrate the family of Chief Awolowo, adding that; “it is only a Yoruba person, who is a bastard that would speak evil against the late sage and his family.”
YYCF, in a statement signed by its Director of Communications, Mr. Ayo Olorunsola warned Tinubu and his “political almajiris” to desist from attacking the Awolowo family or face the wrath of the youths.
“Our attention has been drawn to the highly ridiculous and blasphemous article written by The Nation newspaper's Editorial Chairman, Mr. Sam Omatseye titled; “AWO FAMILY WITHOUT AN AWO.”
“Though going by the character of the writer and his sponsor, one would have simply ignored the article. But an attempt by anyone, no matter his or her moral standing to bring the revered name of Chief Obafemi Awolowo to opprobrium cannot be ignored by any Yoruba person worth his or her birth.
“Most importantly, considering the source, motivator and intention of the article, we cannot keep silent even when we understand the dilemma of Tinubu and his ilk.
“In their desperation for Yoruba leadership, Tinubu and his political hanger-ons must know that no matter how hard that they tried, they cannot equal the achievements of Chief Awolowo and the good name he left behind.
“This is because unlike Tinubu, Awolowo never sought to purchase Yoruba leadership with ill-gotten wealth, using corrupt judges and highly compromised media. The late sage simply became Yoruba leader on merit!
“Therefore, Tinubu and his hatchet writers are warned to desist from disparaging and blackmailing the Awolowo family simply because the family has refused to be conscripted into the 'Yoruba leadership for sale' agenda.” http://www.thenigerianvoice.com/nvnews/53426/1/yoruba-youth-group-berates-tinubu-acn-over-attack-.htmlThe NURTW calibre of ACN morals is quite clear. |

djustice: Beaf, abeg, we go quarrel o...!!! This your ethnic coloration of every evil committed by the demons in ACN is beginning to annoy me. I am Yoruba, and I don't subscribe to their stupidity. The Yorubas who don't like them are actually in the majority in the southwest. It's just that they've perfected the art of rigging elections and intimidating sitting presidents to do their bidding. When Jonathan wakes up to the fact that consulting them and negotiating with southwest governors is simply playing into their hands, we will drive them out, the interlopers that they are.
Tell Jonathan to concentrate on the important things. He said he's ready to fight corruption, yet Bola Tinubu continues to corner the best of Lagos State government owned property for his personal use. The latest one is the Eti-Osa Local Government Headquarters at the junction of Rewane Road and Glover Road, Ikoyi, which was sold to him for just N10m. Jonathan cannot be saying he wants to win the southwest and Lagos with one side of his mouth and at the same time be fraternising with our enemies and those who violate the constitution at every opportunity.
Which one do you people want? A united PDP or a divided one? You have successfully frozen the SW PDP out of National reckoning, and you don't hear us shouting. We understand. Your ethnically coloured accusations are now carrying your sacrifice beyond the mosque entrance. Be careful o!!! I beg my broda, no vex. Sorry if I passed the wrong meaning across. When I say ethnically motivated, I am only talking about ACN's way of defining themselves as an ethnic group (which they are not) instead of as a political party. Anyone who argues with an ACN person is not far from either ethnic blackmail or having their ethniciy insulted. I will endeavour to be more careful with my words so that wrong meanings are not passed across. |

As much as i love the late Obafemi Awolowo, i will never attend any memorial service in honour of Awo organised and paid for by these nest of Killers. Such a service can never be acceptable before God Almighty no doubt, so its simply a waste of time and for this i support the governors. The same goes to whatever speeches, lectures etc This doesnt suggest to us that Awolowo is still not appreciated in Yoruba land.
Everyone is entitled to his opinion. I wont support making insulting remarks on yeye Awo but she should understand that those she is fraternising with dont have the interest of the majority of yorubas at heart.
if its an Aboki or Igbo or even Ijaw that has the interest of Yorubas at heart, and above all the nation Nigeria she should humbly bring them on board not these confirmed criminals Your post is wretched in its level of contradiction. Everyone trooped to Ikenne, aside from you ACN thugs. You hate Awo's family is the most that can be deduced from it, otherwise why would you call them a nest of killers? What is your business with Mrs Awo's friends, are you her father or even her age mate to regulate her friends and associates? Who do you think you are? Do you spit on age too? What an outrage! Demdem: The truth of the matter is the wife of Awo seems to have found a new found love with the killers from the killer party (PDP). These killers arent wanted by the yoruba People and anyone found mixing with them is treated like a leper. Infact, some Awolowo's children are known to be fraternising with PDP. Those mama is now mixing with are the likes of Oyinlola, Daniels, Bode george, Akala, omisores and the Adedibu clan etc. these are the killers we are reffering to. Its not too late for mama to re-trace her steps and key in to the vision of the yoruba race. besides this gat nothing to do with the love the Yorubas still has with the late sage, Awolowo himself This "love of Awo" is why ACN governors boycot Awo memorial services, speeches, lectures etc? Is it the same "love of Awo" that makes ACN members openly ridicule his name even here on NL? The vast percentage of ACN members are no better than uncivilised NURTW types who insult Awo and feel neither fear nor shame when pointing their left hands at MKO's legacy. |
A scum like you needs to be shot before you lead many into their untimely death.
Just the same way you send innocent kids to face bullets for the sake of your pocket? Is the article below not evidence of the gutter breeding in ACN? They were "too busy" to attend an Awo memorial lecture, in fact they were so busy they couldnt even send representatives. If the party of hypocrites and youth users, ACN can so blatantly spit on Awo, it is no surprise to find them now spitting on MKO too. In response to newspaper reports that South-West governors shunned the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo lecture, governors of Oyo and Ekiti states have denied shunning the lecture, saying they were absent because they were attending important state assignments.
The six governors of the South-West states were conspicuously absent at the 2012 Obafemi Awolowo Memorial Lecture which held in Lagos recently.
The event, which was organised by the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation, was attended by traditional rulers and politicians from different parts of the country.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, Governor Kayode Fayemi could not attend the lecture because he had an important state function.
Oyebode said, “The governor had a crucial state function in Ado-Ekiti, as a result he could not travel out of the state for the lecture. But I’m sure he got across to the organisers of the event. His primary responsibility is to govern Ekiti State. If he is invited to an event, be it a lecture, a book launch and something else, he would attend only if there is no pressing state assignment.”
Similarly, the Special Adviser (Media) to Oyo State Governor, Dr. Festus Adedayo, said state assignments kept Governor Abiola Ajimobi from attending the lecture.
“Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who was recently referred to by Governor Abiola Ajimobi at a South-West reintegration summit, as a recent Yoruba ancestor, is almost a god to the government and people of Oyo State. His image looms even larger to the governor of Oyo. And more so, because Ajimobi sits inside the same hallowed environment where Awo sat as Premier to administer the Western region. But the exigencies of day to day office work make the governor to give a round-the-clock attention to governance, and as such his absence at that forum,” he said.
It would be recalled that October last year, the governors of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, and Osun were also absent from the pan-Yoruba summit which was convened by the Ooni of Ife and Mama H.I.D. Awolowo at Awolowo’s residence in Ikenne, Ogun State. http://www.punchng.com/news/south-west-governors-deny-shunning-awolowo-lecture/ |

This has actually been long overdue from Nigeria has a country posted as giant of Africa and her level of education amongst committee of nation. It's really commendable. I will therefore advise that:
i. the president should use this opportunity to set up Plant & Machinery (Tractors & Equipment, Cars e.t.c)Manufacturing Centres and make these project executioners directors and trainners in such establishemnt.
ii. The establishment should be in Partnership with private organisation to ensure efficiency and effective utilisation of resources.
iii. The project design should be given a time frame and published in nigerian newspapers in order to measure deliverables of such establishment.
iv. The President should have a direct supervison of this initiative to ensure result is achieved.
Thanks for the opportunity to contribute.

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Peoples democratic Party (PDP) yesterday traded accusations over the protests by the students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) against the change of the institution’s name to Moshood Abiola University.
PDP, in a statement by its Zonal Publicity Secretary, Hon. Kayode Babade, said it was shocked that those who benefited from MKO Abiola are raising objection to the honour done him.
It accused ACN of instigating the protests.
But the ACN said the protests were spontaneous because the President did not follow due process.
The PDP said: “The PDP-led Federal Government has done well by honouring MKO Abiola.
“We recall that Prof Soyinka had in the time past clamoured for the immortalisation of MKO and blamed the PDP for not according him the deserved honour. We therefore need to ask, what is now the issue, having now recognised the renowned defender of the masses?”
The party appealed to students and other stakeholders “not to be used to tarnish the memory of MKO Abiola and the cherished reputation of the erstwhile University of Lagos.”

The PDP, which accused the Action Congress of Nigeria of hypocrisy and underhand support for the protest on the rename of UNILAG, said: “It is very sad to note that these same people, who dined and wined with late MKO Abiola and had used his name for political gains have suddenly become anonymous and cannot show appreciation to the Federal Government for immortalising him.
“Instead, they have suddenly lost their voice in their usual hypocrisy and have also gone to the extent of fueling protests in Lagos”
The PDP Zonal Publicity Secretary, Hon. Kayode Babade, said in the statement issued yesterday that all lovers of democracy, especially those who benefited from MKO Abiola’s matyrdom, should support whatever honour is done him by the Nigerian government.
Babade said: “the PDP led federal government has done well by honouring MKO Abiola, but inheritors of MKO’s political largesse feeding fat on Lagos have in a shameless display of their hypocrisy kept quite, and it is not difficult to see the hand of Esau in the voice of Jacob in the uproar over the change of name. http://www.thetidenewsonline.com/2012/06/01/pdp-backs-re-naming-unilag-after-abiola-tackles-can/ |
