MKO has been rightly honoured. Why some cannot swallow their bile is perplexing to say the least.
Deal is done, Maulag students behaved disgracefully, were sent home. Whenever they return, it will be to Maulag.

Abiola's son hails renaming of UNILAG
By Agency Reporter

Mr. Abdul Mr. Abdul

…SNG faults decision

The family of the late Chief MKO Abiola on Tuesday said that they were ecstatic over the renaming of the University of Lagos after the late politician.
President Goodluck Jonathan had in a broadcast to the nation to commemorate Democracy Day announced the renaming of the institution after the presumed winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election.
He was honoured for his contributions to democracy in Nigeria.
In a telephone chat with the News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Abdul Abiola, son of the late politician said there was nothing wrong with the naming of the university after his father.
``We are shocked by the reactions trailing this development. My late father believed so much in education.
``He donated money to universities across the nation. Naming a university after him was a well-deserved honour," he said.
According to Abiola, the renaming is just one way of honouring and immortalising the late business mogul.
``He should still be given more honours. We see nothing political in this.
``We are happy about it and we are yet to understand the rationale behind people going up in arms over this decision," he added.
Meanwhile, the Save Nigeria Group has said the late Abiola deserved the highest honour in the land.

It said: ``While acknowledging the place of Abiola in the political history of Nigeria, we would want the highest possible honour for him.
`We, however, deplore the renaming of the University of Lagos after him,’’ the SNG said in a statement signed by its spokesman, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, in Lagos on Tuesday.
``We restate our demand that Abiola must be given a befitting honour for the sacrifices he made for democracy in Nigeria in a decent and worthy manner," the group added.

Yes, I am Igbo.

PeterKbaba: And what is your evidence.. tell nigerians what tinubu as stole... atleast we all know that when he was governor, the PDP say the treat in him and decided to seize all the monetary allocation of lagos state under PDP obj... It was yaradua that had to give the money the government owed lagos ... so what money did he steal... pls talk with facts and not sentimental assumptions ....... 99.9999% (ex your types which are the 00.0001%).. We the majority can tell you how pdp as rigged election and killed all the great leaders of this country, how you people have divided everyone and robbed us of over a trillion dollars... Even the US said Nigeria as made over 600 billion dollars since when oil was found.. what is the tangible thing on ground....... we only have institutions that were build buy the british before oil was found........ who is the oil money.... all the people that stole the money are pdp members and thank you for enlightening the igbos that you are an Hausa.. we all knew that
You seriously mean I should tell you that Tinubu is a thief? shocked

koruji: Well, what did I expect? I guess GEJ now has the right to rename your child or wife or girlfriend because the FG gives you money to be their mouthpiece on NL.

When people appointed to represent a larger group begin to consider themselves "owners" they enter an endless cycle of alienating those they represent.

What is their value then? Zero, zip, nada. Their egos may be soothed, but they will never know the satisfaction of true people-acceptance.

Besides, power is so fleeting.
The FG owns Maulag. Abi na ya papa build am?
If you don't like it, go and build your own.

MKO has been immortalised. Thank God.

Ok, I am Hausa.
How does that stop me from seeing Fashola as Tinubu's puppet and concluding that he is a weakling for allowing that for 5 years (and counting)?
I don't want the frog-like Tinubu to turn Nigeria into an extension of his pocket as he has done to Lagos.

Brother, don't dodge this, thank you:

You called Tinubu a party leader, so I want to ask you what the official title of his position is? Lol!
Lets just say Tinubu is the godfather of ACN, a man without any official position, but who operates like a mafia boss, because ACN is his piggy bank.

koruji: Can you for once make your point without displaying your god-view of President GEJ.

For the upteenth time, GEJ cannot do "anything he wishes". There will always be consequences for anything anybody does, talkless of someone who is supposed to represent the desires and hopes of 160 million.

GEJ didn't build University of Lagos, and in 3 years time he will lose the power to do anything like this.

That is not to far from here - just look at how fast the last one year disappeared into history.
GEJ can do anything he likes with the name. Unilag belongs to the FG.
So long as the name is responsible, it is fine. FG has named FG property.

PeterKbaba: Now I'm convinced Beaf is either a loyal Igbo slave to the Hausa'a or simply an Hausa pretending to be an Igbo on this site... I'm sure you have different ID's you are using to operate all over the internet.. Trying to convince majority of the innocent igbos to continue to remain a loyal blind slave. You want to innocent igbo;s who do no know what politics is all about. they feel politics ends when their child is president lol... All president in the world are been controled by their party leaders... Just like fashola will remain under tinubu ( but tinubu is so wise, he gave fashola and ACN governors free hands to do what is right ), cause he knows that is what PDP lacks, tinubu knows he can never win acting like the PDP........ Think about it, when Yaradua became president and realize that all the yoruba states are under ACN, they tried bribing ACN, telling all parties in Nigeria to remain just 1 part system under PDP.......... You guys dont even seem to see the picture.
Ok, yes I am Igbo and I am Hausa. How does that help your argument or Fashola's non-prospects?
The only good thing is that you have at last admitted that Fashola would forever be Tinubu's boy. It is something obvious even to the blind that while Fashola is a good administrator, he is also a weakling whose every step is directed by an ex-governor, Tinubu.

You called Tinubu a party leader, so I want to ask you what the official title of his position is? None? Lol!

GEJ can do anything he wishes with the name of Unilag Maulag.
If anyone deslikes it, they can build their own.

I am very happy Abiola has been immortalised.
He lived in Lagos, worked in Unilag, carried out the struggle in Lagos, was arrested in Lagos, many died for his mandate in Lagos, his wife Kudirat was shot dead in Lagos, Abiola's Concord newspaper house was burnt down and closed in Lagos, Alex Ibru was shot in Lagos over June 12, Guardian newspaper was burnt and closed in Lagos, Abacha attacked the BBC transmitter in Lagos.

Blood flowed like water in Lagos.

Many people don't know the gravity of the rejection of MKO. They really don't know.

PeterKbaba: From the beginning of the creation of Nigeria, the igbos are always hated the Hausa's for reason's best known to them, let them be really true with themsleves and tell us who the leaders of pdp are. ( pdp is constituted buy 75% retired military hausas, 10% yoruba retired military and 5% igbo military ) that is why boko haram as not ended. We the Yoruba's new founded party ( which started with mko abiola and later tinubu ), ACN party gives all nigerians equal right to work, relate, live, party ... forget about tribalism, yes i know nobody wants to accept his state is lagging behind, even if you ask a maiduguri person, he would say the same. Look at all the states that are been run by ACN just 1 term, I mean just 1 term ago: Osun state, ogun state, oyo state, ekiti state, (ondo LP), can't you see the is no marginalization, we take everybody in as brothers and sisters. Lagos remains the best state in nigeria in all aspect, even interms of accomodating all the Nigerian ethnic community from all over nigeria. Majority of Fashola's commisioners are igbos and we dont care, just get the best people and do the job, thats what we care about. ACN as done all this, but you guys prefer the Hausas Hierarchy party (PDP) .... Later you complain that yorubas are not been true brothers from the Southern Region of nigeria. Or are you guys so blind to see that PDP was constituted buy a few Millitary Hausa Muslim community... This were the same people that killed abiola and made OBJ president, this were the same people backing Ibb and Abacha, This are the same people that obj gave sharian state, this are the same people religious demonic people spoiling the muslin fate to gain their political power to enslave nigerians, they are the religious leaders and sponsorers of boko haram, they are the same people planning that if Boko Haram succeeds ( then they have succeeded in finally enslaving you guys and any election in the country will not matter, cause they would always be in control through PDP) just like the Illuminati are the same people controlling both the US Democratic Party and US Republican Party, leaving the US citizens blind to realize that its that same group that is really the country.. With all what PDP as done to Nigeria since the begining, this are the people the IGBOS prefer to through their weight (vote) behind... Rather an ACN Party who as accommodated you so much in the SW to the es-tent that majority of the Igbos on this site can state claiming that Lagos (which is the commercial capital of the yoruba region ) is a no man's land... Its really funny... I only hope that beaf is not an igbo man, cause if you are, then you are a blind slave... that worst slave on earth is the person who does not even know that his a slave.......... Ajo Mmuo: I have read through most of the argument for and against the renaming of UNILAG.... Someone did go through the trouble of stratifying the debaters, though I believe there are more groups to be included. That said, there is just one constant theme running through the various groupings: Self-interest. Some prefer the new name, others do not. UNILAG is a federal university and if the President has the power and the backing of the law of the land to rename it then his action is legal. But I am not sure about the legality of this action. I leave that to the experts in the field.

But having legal backing does not mean it is the right thing to do. Thus, my personal preference will be to let UNILAG be UNILAG and name another monument to immortalize MKO. Like someone pointed out, name one of the new six Federal Universities after MKO; that is if it has to be a university named after him-it doesn't have to be though. Remember this is my preference. GEJ thought otherwise and we can disagree with him respectfully. This whole idea of hurling insults at the President at any given opportunity is not the best way to register our collective disenchantment with his style. Maybe, he failed to consult widely before renaming UNILAG. Maybe, he played politics with it. Maybe, he had good intention-good intention could have unintended consequence. Be that as it may, if you disagree with the President because you believe it is illegal and/or unconstitutional challenge this pronouncement in a law court. If it is within his power to rename federal institutions and you disagree based on your preferences, you are within your rights to demonstrate peacefully and pile pressure on the federal government to rescind this pronouncement in a respectful and peaceful manner. Do remember this is only your preference.

If the majority of the people prefer UNILAG to MAU, and register that much peacefully, a listening government will reverse itself....
I don't see how GEJ will ever reverse his position.
The ACN leaders would simply turn it into an insult fest, everybody knows that ACN's politics is all about insults and creating ethnic issues.

So long as the renaming is legal, there is nothing that can be done.
