Thanks for the admission. On the argument of how they mirror the society, I am not so in terms with your opinion- this part of the world is not known for promoting nudity or encouraging it. So what was it that they mirrored? That we like to run for products advertised with nude ladies? Or that our reasoning tilts more towards sexually stimulating pictures than quality and brand when it comes to products? Why? You are not fair on the society with that leg of your argument. They mirrored the other side and felt we would buy it too.

Well, I think that I'll let this lie- since your argument is impliedly that WHEN you see a dying man, you should just finish him. Or how do we explain them 'mirroring' the society as a sexually driven one and projecting that with the advert? So much to do. Between, I never said they were entirely guilty from the onset, my point has been that that trend should also be checked if the war against sexual perversion would be won. Thanks

This part of the world is known for pretense, this part of the world is religious and not God fearing. Just like this part of the world chants black is beautiful but keep choosing light skin over dark skin so does this part of the world pretend and quick to put on gown of self righteousness when it comes to what is acceptable and what is not acceptable.

I never encouraged killing a dying man, in my previous post, i mentioned that they are guilty of taking advantage of the cracks in the society. These people are only taking advantage of the flaws in the society.
What would you say about uncivilized settlements where sexual perversion is at its peak?

If provocatively dressed ladies does not appeal to their target audience, the advertisers/advertising agency wouldn't use them. If it does not sell their product, they would have changed their approach. It's no more a secret that sexuality is the best way to sell your product. Who are those patronising these products?

Unfortunately, there is little or no hope of correcting the sexual perversion in our society today.

The war against sexual perversion can only be won when we individually decide to turn a new leaf which is almost impossible.

What you see in the media is a reflection of the society. The media is a product of the society. It has been argued that the media does influence the society but it does not end there, even the society influences the media.

Good submission again, but it is dangerous to vindicate this trend from the sexual abuse concern. I'll just drop this- to a very great extent humans are influenced by what they see, hear and learn everyday. Justify that with almost unclad ladies used for TV adverts. And one more thing, you didn't answer the question of logic in such advert. I ignored that part where you said something like men would be moved to buy TV because of those pictures. Maybe you didn't know, you only identified how much damage such advert has done to the psychology of most men. Nudity should not promote any product, quality should. The moment men start buying it because of those pictures, women stand higher risk of sexual abuse. If you can buy a product because of the picture of a semi-unclad lady used for the advert, you can molest. I repeat, such person has a sexual violence tendency. That reason is just too petty.

I really do understand you and I'm not trying to vindicate anything.

My point is that advertisers do mirror the society very well before sending out their campaign.

Sexual abuse and its likes did not spring up from the media alone. Human nature is inherently evil (those in psychology field would prove me wrong or right)

No doubt these advertisers sometimes engage in campaigns dangerous to the moral standard of the society. But before they embark on the creation of any campaign, they mirror the society through research.

They are not totally guilty of bringing down the moral standard of the society but entirely guilty of taking advantage of the cracks in the society for their own selfish interest.

like i mentioned earlier, every advertisement you see is targeted at a particular group of people.

Here is my question, are these advertisements really responsible for objectifying ladies and sexual abuse?

Taking into consideration the fact that the era when women were really objectified saw nothing in terms of advertising and the media compared to what we have today

The plasma TV billboard is targeted at men... Men generally have the desire to look at sexually stimulating pictures, inscriptions and what have you.

It's called scopophilia in mass communication and advertising. It's one of their tactics to appeal to your subconscious to purchase a particular product. It doesn't appeal to you but believe me, it sells their product.

Don't crucify me, I'm not justifying their action, I'm only telling you it's part of advertising. Maybe someday, the Feminists would see this as part of the injustice they are trying to fight but again, someone somewhere is earning her living by modeling for these companies.

You wouldn't see such billboard in places like Yobe and Katsina. The environment also play a big role
