seunmsg: Here we go again! What’s Tinubu’s problem with Emefiele? Tinubu or any other Yoruba person have nothing against the re-appointment of Emefiele. Media houses should stop this nonsense.
The media blackmail against Emefiele from Sahara report immediately they announced his reappointment came from Tinubu's camp, we know how you guys operate.
Powergas Nigeria Speaks On Alternative Power Solution For South-East Nigeria
Early last week, Powergas Nigeria joined Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), key industry champions & other experts in Nigeria’s gas sector, to look at innovative ways in confronting the epileptic power situation in the region. Manufacturers in that region will continue to bleed billions of Naira if the lingering poor power situation in the country is not addressed immediately by looking into commercially viable alternative solutions to the erratic power experience by manufacturers, even with their use of back-up diesel generators.
Their assertions came during the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi Branches’ exclusive business Forum for Managing Directors and CEOs held in Enugu recently.
Speaking at the forum, the Director of Sales, Powergas Nigeria, Mr. Sumeet Singh reiterated manufacturers on the need to migrate from the use of imported diesel fuel to domestically available Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel, which is more cost-efficient and safer to handle.
“It would be difficult to put an exact figure to the loss incurred daily by manufacturers. Energy is the driving force of any economy; economies do not grow as expected when there is an immense shortfall in the supply of energy. This is why manufacturers in Nigeria need to embrace the use of natural gas which is not only a cleaner fuel but more efficient and profitable for production requirements.”
Sumeet highlighted that, “Powergas provides a complete solution across the gas-based Energy value chain. We provide the gas, the gas generator/equipment along with operations & maintenance through our Group company Cummins Power Generation Nigeria Limited. Before now, most CNG users had to depend on pipeline gas for supply and when there is none, the production process is affected due to using diesel fuel or relying on our national grid. To tackle this and guarantee an uninterrupted supply flow, we now have virtual gas pipelines as well as gas plants next to existing gas field for consistent, easy and quick access to quality gas by our customers.”
Speaking further on the need for manufacturers to switch to gas for power generation, Sumeet said that natural gas, apart from being more economically efficient, is also a ‘clean’ fuel. It puts a stop to financial loss experienced by manufacturers due to the high costs of polluting the environment, high cost of maintenance of these generators as well as high cost of the diesel fuel itself. These cost savings which will enhance the survival and growth of industries and the economy.
Also speaking at the event, the Branch Chairman, MAN Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi State Branch, Pharmacist Anietom ChuziIgweobi stated that the forum was an avenue to dialogue and network on ways of getting alternative power for manufacturers. “It is no secret that the South Western region has access to alternative sources of power such as Piped Natural Gas. Tapping into this resource enables us compete more favourably in the market, gives us a choice between national grid electricity and natural gas, and I can tell you authoritatively that gas is more reliable which then becomes a cheaper energy mix for factories.”
A consortium of foreign lenders is ready to invest $600 million in the construction of a 1,500 megawatts (Mw) power plant in Okija, Anambra State, the Chief Executive Officer, Century Power Generation Limited, Dr Chukwueloka Umeh, has said. The banks are to provide the funds, once the firm is ready with the predocumentation required for the construction of the plant. Umeh, who spoke on the phone in Lagos, said local lenders had agreed to be part of the deal. He, however, refused to mention the names of the banks.
Century Power Generation is the utility arm of Nestoil Group, a conglomerate with interest in power generation and provision of gas pipelines, among others. Umeh said: “A consortium of international banks, in conjunction with some Nigerian banks, has agreed to provide the funding, which is between $600 million and $650million in 2020. Bigger banks in Nigeria are also going to provide funds. “The fund required for the Okija power plant is similar to the ones provided for the Azura Power Plant in Edo State. The size of the plant is huge, as it would assist in providing electricity for millions of people in the Eastern part of the country.” According to him, financial institutions expected Nestoil Group or its subsidiary, Century Power Generation Limited to submit documents, such as Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), that are necessary for the construction of the project. “We have been on the issue for some time. We are working to provide the documents for the release of the funds in 2020. By this, we are wrapping up the process of providing the power plant soon. Already, the company has resolved issues on the allocation of the land for the plant. What needs to be done is movement of machinery to the site of the plant, immediately the funds are ready,” he said.
seunmsg: PDP is a major party in Nigeria and Igbos always claim they own the party. Instead of wailing over APC and who the party will present in 2023, they should put up a strong Igbo candidate that can win PDP’s presidential ticket. A Peter Obi/Tambuwal PDP ticket vs Osibanjo/El-Rufai APC ticket for example will lead to a very interesting presidential election.
While Yorubas are making effort to secure APC ticket, Igbos should drop their defeatist attitude and start making effort to get PDP presidential ticket. 2023 should be an all south contest. If Igbos refuse to contest for PDP ticket, Wike and other south south leaders should go for it.
Just know neither Yoruba man or Igbo man will be president in 2023, no matter how loyal you portray to be, you can't be trusted, Obasanjo they trusted because of his background against Yoruba preferred candidate, ended disappointing them, they know how they struggled to be able to get the power back after 14yrs South region ruled, they are masters in this game, they are fully aware of your antics and agendas, is either they retain power or handover to minority they can control or manipulate to protect their interests, it's not APC or PDP, they can go to any political party to achieve their goals.
Don't worry I will remind you, Fulani used ludo and played your sister out of Finance ministry and placed their own, but you guys are dumb to understand, they know Yoruba agenda, that once power enter your hands, it will be fully executed, they know you guys are betrayer, they've master you guys, they did it to afonja, Awo and MKO, they are fully aware what they suffered for handing power over to Obasanjo, same faith to Igbos, they will rather handover power to minority tribe, they can manipulate and intimidate. Those who refuse to learn from history always make mistake, read what Afonja descendent wrote about them
ORIENTATION101: the incumbent president sharing same attire with his successor
okoro avoid this space
You guys refused to learn from your forefathers, I have screenshot your post I will remind you later. Buhari will be the last person on earth to hand power over to Tinubu or his camp, if you throughly know what is involve, do you know federal properties in Lagos Tinubu has been begging FG to release to Lagos Police Barack Ikeja, Police, Navy, and Army barracks in Obalende, Awolowo road and Falomo, also with Bonny camp, they promised to build befitting barracks for them along Epe road and relocate them, FG declined, Tinubu also targeting Trade Fair complex, TBS and many others, Buhari only agree to release national theater Igormu, national stadium and presidency house Marina, they know Tinubu's plans, they know he is for restructuring of Nigeria and privatization of Federal projects especially airports and what have you, forget photo smile, NORTHERNERS especially FULANI people are not dumb. El-rufia is not alone
deji17: Housing: 32yrs after, FG flags off federal sites at Umunya, Awkuzu
MAY 20, 2019
Ukpono Ukpong, Abuja At last, luck has finally shone on the people of Umunya and Awkuzu communities in Uyi local government of Anambra state as the Federal Government effectively revived the stalled provision of infrastructural facilities at the Federal Sites and Services Scheme over the weekend.
In furtherance to demonstrate the resolve of the FG to address housing issues bedeviling the nation, the Umunya/Awkuzu communities witnessed and celebrated the revival of the project in fanfare and pageantry. Recall, the Minister of Power Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola had earlier approved the deployment of public private partnership agreement with the Association of Allottees of Federal Sites and Services Scheme, Umunya/Awkuzu, to provide basic infrastructure on the site.
The Minister represented by the Director Highways, Construction and Rehabilitation, Engr. Yemi Oguntominiyi at the flag off ceremony over the weekend, recalled that the project which was in the pipeline since 1987, had acquired a large piece of land measuring about 236 hectares at Awkuzu, Section A, for the purpose of developing the National Housing Programme. 2,800 plots were allocated to members of the public since 1993 but due to paucity of funds the site had remained undeveloped. Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Board of Trustee, Association of Allottees, Col. Michael Onuorah rtd. applauded the efforts made by the Hon. Minister to ensure the project came alive and proudly declared that the allottees would finally actualize their housing dreams. Col. Onuorah rtd. stated that the Association is poised to deliver a modern and befitting estate that would be the envy of all. He therefore sought for the cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure a hitch free process during the site construction. Also present at the flag off ceremony was His Royal Highness, Sir Kris Onyekweluje (Eze Nya 1) Umunya with his cabinet members.
In his address, Sir Kris Onyekweluje commended the efforts put in by the Hon. Minister and the Association of the Allottees and further brought to fore issues of concerns he would love the government to address, in order to stem youth restiveness in the communities. He pledged his undying support and that of his subjects to the laudable initiative.
Benefits derivable from the project includes infrastructural development such as houses, roads services and electricity, water supply, drainage, hospitals and schools; J ob creation for mechanics, technicians, builders, masons, artisans and building materials vendors; Services to new estates and new businesses will develop in the area; Increase in the national housing stock translating to economic boom in the area and this will help to stem rural/urban migration.
traihit: [s]Everything all boils down to the fact that we like showing superiority and tribalism with which state is beautiful, which one is not. Ibadan is an ancient city with so many brown zinc and I can tell you that many of the houses you're looking at are either empty or going empty. On the other hand, Ibadan is a city with so many exotic and luxurious houses offices, plazas, roads etc. It depends on the part of Ibadan that you want to see. You can't compare Ibadan and Enugu. Not because one is better than the other but because of the different status and people in the two places. I've lived im both cities well enough to know. Let's just stop this tribalism of a thing[/s]
No need for long story, where is these locations in Ibadan very simple question, Ibadan I know is very backward when compare to Enugu
Nkemakonam62: . He equally commented on the fate of the South-east geopolitical zone ahead of the 2023 presidential If these things happen, APC will continue to rule the country but I have a problem with the fact that everybody is not completely involved. When I say that everybody is not completely involved, it is not that because people are holding meetings, there are not anywhere people are holding meetings more than the other, but just that we need to play more party politics.
Why did you sing war song during presidential campaign in the South East and South-South?
I don’t see anything wrong with those war songs I sang during the presidential campaign. Those songs are the traditional songs those people are known with. If you go to Aba, for example and don’t sing Nsogbu Nsogbu, you have not started. Even though the other song was an Ohafia war song, it is better known as Owerri song. They are traditional and artistic.
Again, the songs are to let the Igbo know that it is high time they came into the national politics. They are completely out of the national politics and it will pay them. If Igbo are not found in the national politics, it will be to the detriment of their children.
As the first to dangle the 2023 president carrot to the Igbo, what is the situation now?
I was the first to do that but I don’t know what the situation is now. I don’t know what they will do now for voting against the APC. For refusing to support the APC, they cannot come to the table to demand the presidency slot.
For people like us in the APC, if the Igbo had come and voted Buhari, they would boldly tell Mr President and the National Chairman of the party that presidency should go the Southeast since the South-south; South-west and North-west have produced president. What argument would the Southeast come up with now to convince anybody that they deserve the slot for 2023 president?
What do you advise the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for dragging President Buhari to court?
I won’t give him any other advice because everybody wants to crucify me over the one I gave to him previously. I had told him that it was unnecessary to drag President Buhari to court. That he should rather allow him do his remaining four years for the interest of the country since 2023 is already here with us. Some persons felt that it was an unnecessary advice and I stopped.
Can you dispel or confirm it that you are strategizing for 2023 and that you may go for President or Vice President?
I am not up to age of those contesting for the positions because the president is for those that are 70 years and above. It is implied in the constitution that you must be 70 years and above to be the President and you must be 68 years to be the Vice President. I am just 54 years this month, May. And since I am not qualified by age, how can anyone say that I am going for the positions.
Did it occur to the APC-led federal government that things are getting very difficult for Nigerians now?
They are lying to say that things are getting difficult for Nigerians. It is not true and people are not being fair to the President to say that things are getting more and more difficult. The story of Nigeria is the story of the pyramid. Nigeria had like 10,000 rich men and 10 million poor people before Buhari came in. Starting from the former military Heads of State to the civilian presidents, big men were created here and there.
They used instrument of authorities to create those wealthy men but as they created those rich men, people were getting poorer. Creating poverty cannot be under one year, it is over the years. They allowed the rich to acquire wealth to the detriment of the poor. Public institutions were not strengthened, schools were not built, and not much was done about primary health centres.
Don’t forget that when we came in, the dollar was already bouncing and running, forcing many to take the position to devalue the currency and remove oil subsidy as a way of securing the economy. And when the president tried it, and saw dollar ran to N500 per dollar, he got frightened and said no more devaluation.
That is why it now came down to N300 per dollar. If we had continued with that, we would have been in trouble. That was why I said that the intervention of Buhari stopped the Nigeria revolution. If we had continued, people would have started eating themselves.
What we are doing now is to manage what would have happened earlier. What the president is doing now is to get the economy trickle down to the base. If it successfully gets to the base, there will be no revolution. But it will not be easy.
What will you say is the most striking achievement in Buhari’s first four-year tenure and where he needs to improve in his second term?
There is no way anyone can ignore Mr President in the area of infrastructure and he is among the two presidents you cannot ignore. Buhari and Gowon did very well in provision of infrastructural facilities in every part of the country.
Babangida equally tried especially in Abuja and building of the Third Mainland bridge in Lagos State. Buhari equally did well in agriculture and security. In terms of security, it is not about how many policemen deployed in the field, but essentially how you address poverty and hunger.
It is all about employment and that is why he has been shouting that we must create employment. An unemployed must look for food even if you put policeman at his door.
The best way to address insecurity is to create employment and create avenue where income can come to the people. We build infrastructure to create employment. Once contractors are paid and they pay workers, wealth will trickle down to the masses.
What is your take on the impression that President Buhari’s appointments have been sectional?
I don’t have comment. I have said that I don’t understand what people describe as sectional appointment. President will appoint people he knows. You don’t expect him to appoint his enemies. In fact, let us situate this, 60 to 70 per cent of the economy, budget are in the hands of two people from the south, Fashola and Amaechi.
So, why are the northerners not complaining that he gave those key economic positions to the southerners? If I were a northerner, I would tell Mr President to give the South everything and give them those two key positions.
Did it occur to you that you created too many enemies in Rivers like Magnus Abe and others?
Ordinarily, I would not want to comment on that but let us take Magnus, who wants to be governor, for example. I told him that since both of us come from upland, he should allow riverine to go. But he said that I abused him before his wife.
As an Ikwerre man, the assumption in Ikwerre is that if nobody can control a man, his wife should and that was why I called his wife to beg her husband not to run. To show how much he is not a Christian, he told the world that I told the wife that I would finish him if he runs. Is that possible and can you do that to even a mad man?
Most Christians take God for granted because of the principle of forgiveness. It is like what I told Peter Obi after I had won the chairmanship of the Governorship Forum, 19 to 16. I saw him in the Catholic Church after watching him campaigning round the media that I did not win.
I challenged him to kneel down before the Blessed Sacrament in the altar to swear that I did not win that election and I will resign there and then. But he told me that it is politics and I should not bring religion into politics.
So, Magnus, and others rose from my hands politically. God used me as a tool to spring all of them. During the APC presidential campaign in Rivers State, I told Mr President and the crowd that 80 per cent of the current Rivers politicians passed through me. I nominated Austin Opara, the Deputy Speaker for House of Representatives. I put my cousin Celestine Omeha as Commissioner under Rufus Ada George. Magnus and many others passed through me.
Is it true that you cannot walk freely on the streets of Port Harcourt now?
I am surprised you did not see a video of where my people were falling on each other to touch me. The security had a rough day stopping people to allow me pass. I was running and they were chasing me.
I went into a market that would have been very dangerous for anybody like me to prove a point. My security did not even anticipate it. As dangerous as Port Harcourt may be, I can go to anywhere I want to go. I still go out with one car in Port Harcourt.
