Was her master's obtained in a uk school ? If so that makes no sense. Why not work with graduates like canada does
yes, actually she came with her husband and 2 kids, i think both did master.

when the program finished, they started to put in all sorts of application to remain in UK, which was refused.

but they didnt leave, the woman started to babysit from house to house.

she went to baby sit over night, came home and found out that her husband and 2kids have been arrested and taken to a deportation camp.

she eventually left sha, after a few months.

Well said. I know this thread is old but I feel it wouldn't be fair if I didn't tell my real life story and help my fellow Nigerians. To begin with Canada is the best country to come to if you want to school, stay afterwards, and get a respectable job. I've met people who have ran away from the UK and America, coming to Canada because that's their best option of getting legal residency and staying. Back to my story. I went to naija for 2 months a few years back. My cousin wanted to come abroad, school then live. I told him Canada was the best option period. He said he doesn't care where he goes, he'll hustle and get legal papers that he's a "naija boy". I said ok oo, you better just come to Canada and especially don't go to the UK because it's a trap. One day he holla me and said he dey UK. I just laughed and said u fukked up, you'll see in due time. After he completed his masters, he had no job for almost a year. He landed a job selling fast food at football (soccer) games. After a few months of that he landed a good job at some financial firm. I told him congrats because I thought the UK's system was similar to Canada's. That's after school if you land a professional job you can apply for permanent residency (PR) after 2 years, get it, then citizenship in a few years after that. In 5 years you could be a full fledge Canadian citizen. He said that's not the case, because he has to constantly be re-applying for the work visa, and they have to make sure no UK or EU citizen is willing to do the job before they give him the visa. In short there's no path to citizenship for him and his work visa can not be renewed at anytime. He just doesn't know where his future lies in the country, with so many question marks. He's now looking at how he can come to Canada. lol

In Canada I have a friend who took the same program as my cousin but finished at the undergrad level. He got a work visa after school, got a job as a bank teller, filed for his PR and got it. He has now moved up with the bank but in a few years he'll be a Canadian citizen. Yet my cousin who took the same program and finished at the masters level is still there with an ordinary work visa with no path to citizenship. I have so many more stories I could tell here. Why people go to the UK is beyond me. Other than it being difficult to get citizenship, you have to deal with high taxes, small houses, small cars/roads and a high cost of living. No thanks.
lol,

ur cousin shud ave listened to u.

student visa means exactly dat.

most students i know just go home after their studies or marry to secure their papers.

the uk is a funny place,

if u come wit all ur certificate and want stay, u will gladly be returned to ur country.

but if u come looking all crazy , no skills, no education, no future they will embrace you

and assign all sorts of social helps. before u know, them go give u red passport grin grin

my former baby sitter who is mechanical engineer was deported wit her kids to nigeria after her masters,

but one ishan girl wey dey pretend to get mental problem has just being given PR, given a 3bed house with her two kids and he has

never contributed anything to this country.

dats britain for you grin

AreaFada2:
Bebe dear good am.

You're partly right. Correction. My prof (prof of O&G) quoted about 330,000 abortions yearly. I mistook annual pregnancy figures for about 685,000 per year.

The facts according to Office of National Statistics (ONS) are:
Annual preggy in 2012: 884,748 pregnancies, & 185,112 abortions in England & wales only residents. 5,850 abortions by non-residents/tourists. Abortion rate is 16.5 per 1000 residents (including babies, nuns, old people, men, not just per 1000 women).

Numbers for 2011: 909,109 pregnancies & abortion rate was 6% higher in 2011 than 2012.

The figure I gave was for the whole of UK including NI & Alba (about extra 8 million people).

Anyway, since you worked in the NHS, hopefully in a clinical capacity, you will know that figures from clinical practice don't always agree with ONS figures as only reported figures are included in ONS ones.

We only get to see illegally performed ones, usually among poorly informed undocumented immigrants when something goes wrong.
The reputable prof of Obs & gynae said that much about conflicting figures.

What is seen in clinical practice is not what people think it is mostly. It is not good but that's what it is dear.

Dude, about half of all pregnancies are aborted in UK.

The teenage preggy figures include those subsequently aborted, except the "very few" illegal abortions that are not recorded.

It is essential to ensure that more counterfeited
female condoms do not swamp genuine ones.
We should also guard against Nigeria being
used as a guinea-pig for all sorts of invention
and innovation by capitalist nations. At the last
count, the United Kingdom has the highest
teenage pregnancy in Europe despite the free
availability of all forms of contraceptive devices
under their national health service.
Nigeria
should think of its own brand of sex education
rather than copying everything the west does
or constituting a laboratory for all sorts of
experiment.
I don't agree with the bolded , The UK have high teenage pregnancy rate be cos there is very very low abortion rate compared to naija wey babes dey do abortion pass there go make there hair.

If my aim is to find daft Africans I can easily do it as well. Are you telling me all the people in the villages all over are well aware of everything going on around?

Obviously America is massive and if you questions people in non major cities, they may not be aware of things outside America. Same applies to Nigeria as well. Go to villages and ask people such questions. Even go to secondary schools in lagos and you will be surprised at some of the responses you get
Yeah , dat maybe true.

But why are we comparing a country like Nigeria where the government expenditure per her is close to zero with a country whose education expenditure per head is probably $10k per annum?

For Nigerians they have an excuse, cant think of one for an American.

Its my first time on nairaland, dont like ere much but am here because of how I feel now. Its not like I eat much but there are some certain foods wen I eat I eat it well. Now my appetiete seems to be increasing, I dont know Its because am a breastfeeding mum, my son feeds alot, once I breastfeed him eventhough I just ate I immediately feel hungry again. I dont know if its me or there mums with such change in their diet due to breastfeeding. Please share with me, may be it will stip my husband from making my life miserable.
Yesterday I bought myself a loaf of bread, I ate a quater of it, my husband didnt seem interested but wen he saw me eating I think he got interested. HE said I should serve him some and I said d rest wont satisfy him so I offered to make him something else. Thats how I became his huge topic. He lamented and lamented and ended it saying ,"you eat like a thief" and also said my tommy has grown bigger due to too much eating. If I had my way i would post a photo of me , I am sexy and fit as a lady who has never had kids, men still make passes at me so sorry to say that, and even women walk up to me and admire my shape, am not saying I av a totally flat tommy, but after two kids still looking this way then I tried. Those words hurt me so much that I went into d kitchen and cried. I felt really bad, you know it gets to a point where u just feel its not necessary to tell him how u feel about something he just said or did. So I just moved on acting strong. But I tell u since then I dont eat around him, even if I will eat in d same plate with him I would just take 2_ 3 spoons and leave. And am almost having Inferiority complex like am nt good enough or appealing to him. I am beautiful in my own way but I dont know if he still sees me that way.
I want hear breastfeeding mums lifestyle to diet. So I can compare to mine to know whete and how to fix me. Cos I know my appetite wasnt this bad, I had d appetite quiet alright but not this much. Please mums share ur opinions with me.
i dont support ur husband to u like dat,

but advise ur sef ooo ,
all this food u r eating will come back to hunt u.

its easy to put on weight oooo, but losing it is another story.
