Why were they shouting? The problem with some of these schools - people are operating them just because they went to a teacher's college. The rocking and the flapping gave it away that the actions of their carers might be distressing to them. We have a long way to go.
Am sure the teachers where trying to get heard over each other.

Apparently the proprietor studied in the uk.

The school was beautiful, clean gardens beautifully manicured but the teaching was appalling.

I left wit tears in my eyes.

too many things wrong with dat country.
Oh their school fees was out of this world. Only d very rich wud be able to send their kids.

my apologies! there was obviously some sort of misunderstanding on my part. some kind of mix-up. i hadnt red the diary then coz i assumed u were talking about the poster's contribution to ds thread, which of course was that she was an experienced manager/carer of autistic kids.

well, i went over to peep at the dairy, but it has bn removed/hidden by the administration or God knows who.

Now, i hope tht i made myself very clear that i was presented with an opportunity of a hearing b4! alright then!

bebe2, my apologies, again

Have a great Sunday, everyone.
Apologies accepted.
Have nice day

very well! i cud not agree more! i totally concur that we r so lagging behind in a lot of ways: technology, medical advances, tertiary education and of course disability which falls under medical.nevertheless, Nigeria is a country we all love so much. m sure things wud get better. i do not know when or how. but m optimistic, some day sooner or latr, we wud get there.

but, i find it pretty sneering and disrespectful wen u found a poster's diary 'quiet amusing', coz apparently the poster hardly knows what he is up against in his quest to help and care for autistic kids in this country. u seem to paint the poster as 'local and clueless'. uncool.

And by the way, i have been assessed 4 a hearing aid. in fact, it was formally confirmed, after i underwent several tests including audiometery and whatnot that i was a candidate for a hearing aid and a surgical procedure they called 'cochlear implant'.
i had them provide me with necessary literature on these options available to me so that i cud mk a more informed decision as to which of the paths i wanted.
after all, i thought my family and i decided on cochlear implantation which can best be successfully carried out abroad.
but m sure its all gonna be alright soon!

now, bebe2, what are we going to do about this 'Nigeria is so far back it cant even see d rear light of western countries'?
what do u propose cud be done for persons/kids with autism and other developmental disorders?
i cant wait to have a very healthy conversation with u!
i find it very disrespectful dat u accuse me of the bolded without taking time to investigate wat i was talking about.
did u read the dairy? how did u conclude that i was '' sneering, disrectful, regarding the poster as clueless and uncool?

to prove to ursef that i was implying non of those, go and read the dairy and u will realise that she leaves in the UK, AND amused me was the disagreement she had with the boss dat took all her competent staff then accuse her off................. just go read it.

now to ur second point, i assumed u havent been assessed becos someone is buying u some hearing aid ,
i wud have thot if u are asesssed for it u wud have some by now as ur hearing loss isnt a recent development.

am no stranger to disability, both in my family and in my community.

i wen to a primary school that hard deaf and blind pple mixed in with us in the compound.

i dont appreciate been written to/about like dat.

A fair point

But first of all you should compare/consider the rate of bacterial a child picks up as a toddler around the home/environment.
As far as the child's mother is healthy,I don't see any harm in that.
Ehhhh, but wat sort of play is dat sef?
I do kiss my kids, but I cant remember ever tonguing my kids.

Even chewing food for a child , I dont like it.

I almost cause my cousins 18mths old to choke last summer.

She said "cut cow leg for am he sabi chop am" so I cut a tiny piece and put in his mouth seconds later he is choking. We had to beat his back and use a finger to take out the offending meat.

Wen it came out my cousin was shouting " ahhh u no chewd meat before u give am dats why e choke am"

I just stood there thinking u expect me to chew food for ur child??
Must he eat cow leg??

Hi there,

I have experience of working with people who suffer from various forms of learning disabilities such as autism people on the autistic spectrum disorder, mild and moderate learning disabilities. An expert in communicating and teaching carers, friends and families how to communicate effectively with them. Also, for the ones that have challenging behaviours, I can out you through various behavioural approaches to use. Happy to help.
I just read ur dairy and found it quiet amusing.

Nigeria is so far back it cant even see d rear light of western countries.

Imagine someone with hearing difficulty has never been assessed for hearing aid.
Aint dat shocking?

There is this school for autistics dat pple rant about in Nigeria, its located in ikeja G.R.A.

I was fortunate enough to visit it on one of my trips to nigeria.

What I saw made my heart bleed. About 10 kids sat on a bench wit some adult in front of them.

And the adults where all shouting words to the kid in front of them, one shouting orange, another shouting banana, apple etc and the kids just sat there rocking and flapping badly.

I just went home shaking my head, u being in the profession must realise how damaging dat situation is for those kids.

The girl is single and probably desperate.

But the married shud be held responsible for this act that was committed in his matrimonial home against his wife n his kids.

Hello all, couldn't sleep,,something has been on my mind.

What is your take about other people other than yourself or spouse giving your child a kiss,,,whether on the lips or cheeks,,and when i say child i mean your 3 year old and below,,,,

I don't know if am being overly paranoid but by God i hate it so much and can not fathom why people do such,,,,,,,,i am so planning to start telling people outright - NO KISSING - i don't know if that is wrong though.

Hubby's friend came earlier and my cutie out-rightly refused to go to him and say hello,,,fine by me,,,,,,,when she finally agreed, the "Goat (forgive me please am so annoyed) decided to plant a peck on her lips,,i was so mad and hubby knew so he just carried my child from the idiot. Yes i said idiot cos i think in this age and time, he should know better.

Please,i personally need advise on what to do cos my person doesn't agree with this at all,,,,,,,by the way,,,myself and hubby gives kisses and hugs alot to my little one and i don't want her thinking it's alright for any kangaroo to do so,,

So,,,should we stop with the kissing and simply say NO when she tries to kiss us?
How do i tell people politely not to do so again if they do it before i can stop the act?
This thing is really making me angry and i need advise please.

goat n kangaroo??

how do u come up wit these? lol

met my 4yr daughter for the first and they took so much to each other.

It has become something of high importance in Nigeria that building one's own house is a priority. Especially the yorubas and ibos (no tribalism) make it a duty to have a property at least at their villages.
In the western society (USA), it has been observed that not every one see it compulsory to own a property. The society don't see it a big deal to do that. Many people rent apartments and still have a happy home.
I am not saying it is a bad idea to own (even I am in support) but I see that it is not possible for everyone to own a property.
Now I put it to you as a Nigerian, is it compulsory for you to have it as a target?
its the pressure to build that kills me.

not neccessarily frm other pple but from my fear of being old n broke.

i just sat a few days ago to calculate how much i spent on building last year

i dont know if to laugh or cry

mufutau55:
Compulsory and Financial capability is two different thing...

Yes, it's good to have a house whenever you want it be in your village or where you reside.
But it's not compulsory to have a house if you don't have the financial mean.
So, not every Nigerian have or owns a house. The percentage of those who don't have a house is more than those who have.

And talking of USA, you are talking of a different atmosphere... there are buildings for rent offered either by individual or by Govt. not much of that here in Nigeria. The percentage of those who don't won their own house is more than those that does because of finance too.. every American wants to own a house if they can afford it but not so.. The demography in America is also different, where you reside can be your village or town, but not so in our good Nigeria... Yoruba thinks they have to be in the West to be at home, Igbo thinks same, also Hausa thinks the same, we have too much sense of belonging... whereas it's not same in America... anywhere you reside is home.

I don't know if I answered some of your questions though... or may be just ranting. smiley

i totally agree with u,

my neighbour is 76yrs, she was born a few miles away frm our house, got married to a local boy in the same area,
had 3kids then moved to our current street 38 years ago.

her 3kids live about 10mins drive away in different directions.

oh n she has been renting the house o,

but she is very contented, she will often tell me '' i have lived a beautiful life, am very happy''
