zoedew: If I'm not wrong it was Yakassai who said so from the Colonial administration archives. You may wish to Google the matter. Anyway it might be mistaken to call the North poor. Nothing concrete on google about this, just checked. I dont think its wrong to call the north poor considering that its generally known that the British amalgamated north and south to offset north's economic deficit. Why didnt they amalgamate uganda and kenya or south africa and zimbabwe if they were looking just to create a big African country. North Nigeria was the only British colony that was not viable to stand on its own as a country. You need to know also that the British came to what is now Nigeria in 1860 through the royal niger company. They ruled north, south and lagos separately for many years b4 1st joining lagos with south in 1906 and joining north with south in 1914 |

Bolustical: The Army that was very professional in not killing Mohammed Yusuf will now kill Kanu. Kanu is too small for the NA to kill.
If not for the fact that the government needs Kanu alive so as to make him an example, do you think he would have escaped? If they really wanted him, they would have gotten him.
The FG is not willing to make him popular again by capturing him thus it is preferred for him to be sent into perpetual oblivion. Kanu will become very unpopular after the success of November 2017 guber election in Anambra. This assertion is faulty. The video of Nnamdi Kanu's home released after the invassion showed several bullet hole within the compound and inside the house. If the army did not come to kill, they wont shoot indescriminately. |

As an Igbo guy I'd also prefer the 4 regional agreement of 1963 because the old eastern region was Africa's fastest developing economy in 1965. But is it still feasible? A lot has happened now and it would be had to convince the Benue or kogi man that he should be in the same state or region with the Maidugri man. Even convincing Ogoni people to come back to eastern region is impossible for instance. What we can do is work with the 6 regions, but modify it in such a way that yoruba parts of Nigerdelta and NC goes to SW region, Igbo parts of SS and Benue goes to SE region, Hausa/fulani/Nupe/Kanuri parts of NC goes to either North east or north west. The current 36 states should be made LGs while the 774 LGs be scraped. Elected LG chairmen should go to their regional capitals to form the new regional assemblies... councillors should be dismissed
We should also allow FG to own offshore oil found within a certain km off the coast of Nigeria in order to keep the central govt viable.
There will definitely be job cuts. But money saved from those job cuts would be available to go into infrastructural development to renew our cities and attract investors to create more real jobs. |

YelloweWest: The states of Texas and florida which have the largest oils and gas deposits own 9 nautical miles (17 km) of seabed from the shore. Do ur research.
FG in Nigeria CANNOT own the offshore where the oil comes from. only texas actually (others own 3 nautical miles) and the reason for this is that Texas was formally an independent nation. It joined u.s on its own. Not conquared |

The oil within the Niger Delta region belongs to the Niger Delta people! Our forefathers fished in those waters long before the inception of Nigeria. you want true federalism or your own definition of federalism? Cos in u.s, fg own the offshore |
Politics › Re: Restructuring: Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara Support Devolution Of Power by Bede2u(m): 8:13am On Sep 26, 2017 |
I think the devolution of power to the current 36 states would be a wrong move. The 36 states are majorly unviable (except Lagos). I suggest that the 6 geopolitical zones be recognised as states while the current 36 states becomes Local Govts (scrap the 774 LGAs). I believe the zones will be better positioned to handle the new responsibilities that would come. Also the new states should own resources found within their lands and pay 30% to FG while FG should own all offshore resourses (including fishes). |
