Is it necessary to love the person's entirety. Can I not just take the person for who he or she is although i do not like some things about the person?

Okay as many of you know, I am surrounded with dumb bimbos and sexually-starved akatas. I have come to cherish the intangibles in a potential partner. Things like having a good brain and a good heart now mean more to me than ever. I see some people exhibit these qualities on NL but I do not know if I will be physically attracted to them. But I am totally in love with the idea of a smart and kind woman that I just fall in love with certain online personalities. It is just crazy. Re-read the quote. If you are the type of person to respond with your fists, you should be that way with everyone who provokes you. If you are only picking fights that you can easily win, that makes you a coward.

Well then we agree. Men can walk away from a provoking person, even though it might not be easy to do. A coward is defined as 'one who shows disgraceful fear or timidity'. Therefore the man that would walk away from a provoking person that is stronger than them, or armed, but feels no such restraint when it comes to weaker women, are cowards who are displaying disgraceful fear and timidity. If you are 'man enough' to hit a woman, you should be man enough to hit an armed policeman. The men who realize that they don't have to resort to violence to maintain their position as head, now those are real men.

What kind of reasoning is this? What is cowardly about beating someone that is weaker than you? What is "disgraceful fear or timidity" about hitting a woman or anyone? It does not make sense. The fact that you hit the person mean you are neither afraid nor timid. And the reason you do not hit the policeman is because he has a gun so he is "stronger" than you. That does not make you less than a real man, that makes you a sensible person who knows what fight to avoid.

Thanks for the answers. makes some sense now. so the rul should really be "don't hit someone weaker than you , man or woman"  So a professional boxer woman of 26-years old should not hit a skinny 20 year-old boy.

Should we just accept the gospel of "thou shall not hit a woman" without knowing why? The unexamined life is not worth living.

I don't know about other threads. I am just curious to know the history of "thou shall not hit a woman" I am pretty sure it is not in the bible that it is a taboo to hit a woman. So what is the origin and justification for this sexist moral code?

Let me first state clearly that the only woman I have ever hit seriously was my sister and that is because she was a tomboy and we were always playing. However, lately every tom,dic.k and harry says that "only cowards hit women" or "i will never lay my hands on a woman" etc etc. What is the big deal about hitting women? People talk about it as if anyone that hits a woman is the second coming of Hitler or something. If women are equal to men, then why do they get preferential treatment in this area? I don't get it. What special about women that make them above being hit even though they do stuff that is hit-worthy?
