Promptlyn:
Hi everyone, Greetings.

Please I'm new here

Can someone please explain the different between Money Market Fund and Treasury Bills cause I'm lost
In a simple way to make you understand.

Thinking of Tbills as you borrowing the government money but can choose the duration for which you want to borrow the government usually (3 month, 6 month and 1 year)

However, Think of MMF as you giving a professional fund manager who help people invest their money — you and other people like you willing to invest, give the fund manager your money then the fund manager will pool all money together and buy short term investment like that same Treasury bills aforementioned (Not only Treasury bill though), now that's the reason people prefer MMF because a fund manager will invest more in other investments you literally cannot invest in by yourself because of little capital, for example commercial paper.

Do you understand now?

I can't find meristem on cowrise app
That's because Cowrywise merged all individual investments into one portfolio.

So now you will choose according to your risk appetite, it's a ploy by cowrywise to systematically sell their own MMF product because theirs is number one on the page and they didn't merge their own with anyone.

if you really want Meristem, just download their app and invest with them.

Hello House,

I stumbled on this thread two days ago and have taken my time to read through all the pages.

I have been in the financial sector for almost 10 years, with investments mainly in individual stocks domiciled with ARM Securities and a money market fund domiciled with Stanbic IBTC. I also tried the Stanbic IBTC Ethical Fund years ago, even before my exposure to stocks, but I was not happy with the consistent negative returns at the time. I eventually liquidated my position and never went back.

However, with the knowledge I have gained from reading through this thread, I am now considering liquidating my money market fund and splitting the funds between the Stanbic IBTC Nigerian Equity Fund and the Stanbic IBTC Balanced Fund.

Please, I would appreciate further guidance on this decision.
I don't know how much you have in mutual fund but don't go all in with all funds from MMF.

Remember, this thread is bubbling right now with different Equity funds suggestion because it's bull season with ASI at its highest.

The last time you attempted it was bear season which discouraged your morale.

My suggestion is; don't completely liquidate your mutual funds, rather split into half and ratain MMF 50% and go into Equity with 50%.

Now after the bull season is over, the returns from MMF will serve as "Naira Cost Averaging" to cushion the blow from potential loss and restore your confidence in the anticipation for another bull season.

That's how fund managers handle our funds in Equity.

Honestly,at this point,I prefer Equity funds to buying direct stocks myself ...the guy I posted is currently lamenting on twitter as he wanted to diversity his portfolio to other stock but his funds has been trap in geregu.

That amount in Equity funds could have done numbers already in the current market.

Personally,I can't differentiate between direct stocks that are illiquid or not that was one one of the reasons I opted for Equity funds
Good thing you sticking with Equity mutual funds to avoid liquidity trap but let me give you a tip not to fall for it in the future.

Any stocks trading less than 5 million for 3 months straight should not be considered.

I am also looking at expanding my crypto portfolio
Usually, I advice against crypto if you don't have full knowledge of it.

But since you already have some in your portfolio and looking to expand, I would recommend you stick to spot trade and hold for quite a bit till it shoots to the moon but monitor your investment always.

NOTE: STAY AWAY FROM FUTURES CONTRACTS.

Crypto futures trade is the quickest way to lose money if you not an advance trader because all odds are stacked against you.

it's quicker to lose money trading Futures contracts than sport betting or even forex trade.

Preator:
Frankly, if anyone has funds they dont need till December in MMF, move 90% to an equity fund. You will be better off for it.

The ASI is now over 194.6k today(will likely hit 195k) and is on course to break the 200k barrier. Tap into those gains.

Secondly, there will likely be a rate cut on tuesday by the MPC. This means MMF yields will drop further with investors moving funds to equity further driving equity yields up.

Lastly, you can catch the dividends bubble between Apr and July when most company's start paying their div. Thats an extra 6-8% yield with a timed entry.

If Trumps attack Iran, price of nigerian oil giants will go up also pulling the ASI further up. There will be other impact of course including negative ones.

Of course there will be red days, but ultimately by year end, your equity will likely be more than 15% better than MMF.
well done chief. You too much.

This is the kind of analysis I like to see from real investors.

Not the stay off equity ... invest without tears bla bla bla I see here often.

Somehow as how? If you're not comfortable with the wide margin, you can do Paramount instead. They're at 29.91% ytd and the margin is not too wide from the others. Zedcrest, according to their fund fact sheet, invests 50% of investors' funds in the services sector and that sector is what is apparently driving the ngx right now since December. @Beeron, pls shed more light on this if you can.

I used zedcrest for mmf only when they first launched but their equity fund started in December last year. Don't remember much of the sign up process but it was smooth. As long as you update a very recent bill and the address on the bill matches the address you signed up with, verification should take a few days max.

The fund itself, redemption is immediate. If you redeem before 3 months, they debit their 20% charge. But you get your money in your wallet immediately. Withdrawal from wallet into bank acct is also fast. 1 hour max.
Your observation is correct.

However, Nearly all big names are currently gaining in the Stock market now, from MTN to Dangote Cement to GTCO and the likes.

Like I said in my video, the reason big names are driving this rally regardless of sector is because pension fund are still buying.

That's a lot of money getting into the market and Pension fund institutional investors are after big names stocks (huge market cap + liquidity)

That is what is currently happening in the market.

I will suggest everyone to get on board because, there will be more buying after CBN cut MPR rate.

You are not losing any money. If you get in with the right fund managers. You can invest 20M and invest the other 10 in MMF. Within a year, if the market keeps gaining momentum, you will be asking why you didn't invest more.
I will go with this your advice too chief. This is strategic. Different fund managers plus MMF back up.

Nice work you doing here bro.

Search for the asset management firm ETF you want to buy and buy directly from their websites or app. For instance, Stanbic ibtc asset management, sight up with thier broker and buy their ETF.

FamilyRe: This Is The First Mistake We Made As Children by Beeron: 10:19am On Feb 17
The reason for this mistake is, at infant, kids brains for thinking rationally isn't developed, their brain runs on copy and paste mode and obedience mode, if you tell them to wear their shoe, fine, they will wear it but logic doesn't come to them that it's worn wrong, they just obey according to what they have seen.

@Beeron

Pls I need a clarification.
I placed a bid over the weekend for some shares. The bid has gone through.

However, I selected Good till canceled with respect to time in force.

The status of my bid is now filled but I noticed I have still received multiple alerts from X-Alert regarding my trade.

Is it a system malfunction from NGX or do I need to still cancel the order. If I need to cancel I would appreciate advise on how to go about it. I have tried looking for it on the system but no luck.

Stockbroker is CardinalStone
When your order status says FILLED, it means: All the shares you wanted have been bought, The order is completed
It is no longer active in the market, There is nothing left to cancel.

Even if you selected Good-Till-Cancelled (GTC), once the order is fully filled, the GTC instruction becomes irrelevant. It only matters if the order is still pending.

This is normal as a beginner. Every investor (including beginners) wants to be careful so as not to make fatal mistake.

I can assure you that as long as you keep asking questions here, you won't make mistakes as there are several experts here and including myself will ensure your questions is answered satisfactorily.

For privacy purposes, you could choose not to mention amount intended to be invested but just the investment.

*MMF is for preserving and compounding wealth.

*Equity mutual fund is for long term growth

*Fixed income is for taking whatever you can get daily from bond and money market instruments.

*Fixed deposits with banks is for the uninformed urbanites.

*Balanced Fund mirrors Equity mutual funds

*Picking individual stocks is not different from trading crypto (high risk, high reward) only if you know what you doing.

Those investments aforementioned are what most Nigerians engage in.

Anyone you don't understand we can discuss further here so everyone can learn and anyone can contribute their own knowledge.

Say, would it be wise to move funds from usdt to any of the instruments in the naija market now seeing as the dollar is steadily declining/ the naira is steadily gaining .
This dollar decline is the reason why Swiss franc is regarded as the world most stable currency to save your money in.

However, the best investment you can make with USD not USDT oooo but USD, is buying dollar mutual funds or Euro bond (if you lucky to get any secondary market on this).

Or convert the dollars to Naira and buy land (fence and and secure it)

Or buy precious metals ETF especially gold etf.
