HealthCross River Doctors Suspend Strike by Benite(op): 6:29pm On Jul 08, 2020
Doctors in Cross River State have suspended the withdrawal of services across hospitals in the state.

The withdrawal of services was announced last Sunday.

The Nigerian Medical Association, Cross River State branch, announced the suspension of the strike in a statement signed by the Chairman, Dr. Agam Ayuk, and Secretary, Dr. Epoke Ezoke.

The statement, titled, ‘Communinique issued by the Nigerian Medical Association, Cross River State’, was issued after an emergency general meeting on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, to appraise the issues that led to the withdrawal of medical services by the association

“We are most grateful to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha and the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Enahire, for the timely 17-member delegation from the Presidential Task Force (PTF) and Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) led by the Executive Director/CEO National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuaib that arrived Calabar on 6th July 2020, to set up a COVID-19 response strategy in Cross River State that will align with the national response.

“We deeply appreciate the Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu for the activation of two (2) COVID-19 Test Centres at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and Lawrence Henshaw Memorial Hospital, Calabar.

“We also appreciate the NMA President, Prof. I.A.O. Ujah, the National Officers’ Committee and members of NMA for their support to NMA Cross River State,” the statement read in part

The association said it welcomes the official recognition of the five COVID-19 confirmed cases from the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital by the NCDC which had resolved the lingering uncertainties negatively impacting public health and safety and had provided clarity to the COVID-19 status of Cross River State and the required response strategy.

It said, “We enjoin the Cross River State Government to keep to the resolutions of the meeting held between PTF/FMOH COVID-19 delegation, Nigerian Medical Association – Cross River State branch and the Cross River State Ministry of Health signed on July 7, 2020.

“The association hereby suspends the total and indefinite withdrawal of medical services in all public and private hospitals in Cross River State with effect from today, 7th July 2020.

“We appeal to citizens of Cross River State to follow the NCDC guidelines on infection prevention and control while reinforcing our commitment to working with the Federal and State governments to contain the spread of COVID-19.”

HealthCross River Doctors Declare Strike, Accuse Ayade Govt Of Hiding COVID19 Patients by Benite(op): 10:50pm On Jul 05, 2020
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Cross River chapter has withdrawn its services from all medical facilities in the state.

This was relayed in a letter addressed to the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, from the state chairman of the association, Agam Ayuk, on Sunday.

Ayuk wondered why the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), was not including Cross River in its daily COVID-19 update.

Cross River is the only state in Nigeria where no single case of COVID-19 has been officially confirmed.

The association claimed five positive cases had their tests done at an NCDC-approved laboratory, but their results were not been published in the agency’s situation report.

The association claimed five positive cases had their tests done at an NCDC-approved laboratory, but their results were not been published in the agency’s situation report.

“The Association demands an explanation from NCDC, why the five (5) COVID-19 confirmed cases from UCTH carried out at the NCDC accredited Molecular Laboratory at Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State have not reflected in the daily situation report of NCDC long after results had been transmitted to UCTH since July 1, 2020. Congress demands update of the NCDC situation report as a matter of urgent public health interest,” part of the letter read.

It added that: “The NCDC is put on notice that the Cross River State Government has abdicated her responsibility of contact tracing, treatment and care for the five (5) confirmed cases which may not be unconnected with the delay in publication of the results by NCDC.”

HealthFMC Kogi Doctors Strike Over Yahaya Bello’s Mgt Of COVID-19, Threat To Lives. by Benite(op): 12:04pm On Jul 02, 2020
Following an attack by suspected political thugs on Wednesday, doctors at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, Kogi State, have embarked on an indefinite strike.

Rising from a meeting on Wednesday, the doctors said that the action was necessitated by the prevailing insecurity foisted on the centre by armed thugs and the poor management of COVID-19 pandemic by the Governor Yahaya Bello-led administration.

In a communique announcing the strike and signed by seven health workers’ associations, they expressed regret that aside the violent attack on workers, all vital equipment needed for their day-to-day work had been carted away by the hoodlums.

The union leaders said they were totally withdrawing services across the board pending when their grievances are met.

They also demanded adequate provision of personal protective equipment for their members as a precondition for calling off the strike.

Part of their demands also include the validation of COVID-19 status of the Accident and Emergency Unit staff, who were on self-isolation, expansion of triangle points and provision of testing facilities (PCR machine).

Christianity EtcChrist Embassy Sues Akwa Ibom Government Over Arrest, Detention Of Pastor by Benite(op): 12:33pm On Jun 23, 2020
Uyo zonal headquarters of Believer’s Loveworld Inc aka Christ Embassy has instituted a legal action at a Federal High Court in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, against the Akwa Ibom State government over arrest and detention of one of its pastors, Pastor Emmanuel Effiong, and a videographer, Gabriel Ekpa, over alleged attack on Covid 19 Monitoring Team.

The frosty relationship between the church and the government deepened on Sunday when the COVID-19 monitoring team stormed the church and arrested the duo over alleged breaches of COVID-19 protocols.

It was gathered that the church, in a suit with registration number, FAC/UY/FHR/106/2020, is calling for the unconditional release of the duo.

Joined in the suit are the State Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Ndueso Ekwere and the Chairman, COVID-19 Guidelines Monitoring Committee, Mr. Enobong Uwah.

The church had denied claims that its members attacked and brutalized officials of the state government on Sunday.

A statement signed by Pastor Kelvin Atang and made available to newsmen accused the state government of “acting on falsehood”, noting that it was even the team that assaulted the church’s videographer.

The church decried that its pastor and videographer have been arrested and detained by the Police against their fundamental human rights of freedom of fair hearing by the authorities.

“This action is borne out of malice, hatred and calculated attempt to malign the Church for disassociating herself from the Christian Association of Nigeria.

“As a Church that respects the rule of law, we had envisaged this gang up and also took steps to seek protection of the law by approaching the Court”, the church said.

PoliticsDefection: Quarantine Obaseki & His Supporters - Ize-Iyamu To NCDC by Benite(op): 8:16am On Jun 20, 2020
The Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu Campaign Organisation said Obaseki and all those who were at the defection meeting should be quarantined because they flouted the physical distancing regulation established by the state governor.

A statement by the Director of Media and Communication of POI Campaign Organisation, John Mayaki, also noted that Obaseki is now enjoying exactly what he tried to frustrate Ize-Iyamu of when he joined the APC.

He said: “While we note interestingly that this is the same right the Governor, in his usual autocracy and abuse of power, tried to deny Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu last year when he returned to the All Progressives Congress through the sponsorship of physical and media attacks, and the institution of baseless court cases, we, as democrats and staunch believers in the rule of law, unlike Godwin Obaseki, hold nothing against it.

“However, we observed with great concern the dangerous and reckless actions of the Governor and his supporters at the venue of his defection. Without any observance of the social distancing rules, or the use of face masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Mr. Godwin Obaseki assembled hundreds of Edo youths that his administration failed to gainfully engage following his failure to create 200,000 jobs as promised and assigned them the demeaning task of singing his praises at great risk to their health during a pandemic.

“Apart from violating the guidelines of the Presidential Task-Force on COVID-19 on social gathering, Mr. Godwin Obaseki also openly disregarded the stipulations of his ill-conceived gazette which, among other things, held that no gathering of more than 20 persons shall take place in a single location.

“Consequently, to protect the people of the State and ensure that the work of the Federal Government in curbing the spread of the viral disease is not undone by the irresponsibility of a vain Governor who prioritizes politics over public health and human lives, we call on the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to aid the Nigeria Center for Disease Control in the commencement of an immediate identification, tracing, and arrest of everyone present at the event for immediate quarantine at nearby isolation centers.

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, and aspirant in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has thanked another aspirant Hon. Osaro Obazee for bowing out of the governorship race and declaring support for his emergence as the primary election draws near.

Hon. Osaro Obazee was one of the three aspirants cleared by the APC Screening Committee to participate in the party’s primary scheduled for Monday, June 22. However, he announced on Wednesday his decision to step down for the race and endorsed the candidacy of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

He pledged his support, alongside that of his followers, to the former Secretary to the State Government who is widely predicted to emerge as the APC’s flagbearer.

In his reaction, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, speaking through a statement signed by Prince John Mayaki, the Director of Communication and Media of his Campaign Organization, expressed gratitude to Hon. Osaro Obazee and described his support as another “important boost” for his aspiration days before the primary election.

“Hon. Osaro Obazee is a fine politician whose entrance into the race no doubt injected more life and excitement. He campaigned from his heart and took his message to members and followers of our party across the state. I am grateful to him for his endorsement and very confident that it will provide an important boost to our bid as we approach the primary election of our great party.”

PoliticsRe: Kano Insists On Easing of Lockdown by Benite:
Imagine Kano state received 110 trucks of food items from FG 2 days ago + 16 trucks of food items from Buhari's wife 5days ago, the people protested that the palliative did not getting to them in spite of the lockdown and then instead of the state government to ensure that the palliative get to the people to ameliorate their suffering during lockdown or even provide palliative for them they decided to lift the lockdown increasing the covid 19 spread and possibly siphon the palliative as usual.
The problem is not the people, they were hungry and protested instead of the governor to ensure the palliatives get to them, he decided to allow them to go and provide for themselves.
Since he could not get the 15b in cash then the trucks of food items can suffice!
I dont know the kind of leaders we have in this country, shame on Ganduje.

abdullahi45:
What a shame see how you easily jumped into a prejudice just because the scenario suits your selfish mindset. The world would have been a better place, if we learn to say the truth as it is... How can a federal government owned high school ban the use of a religious wear... Does the country's law comes first or that of the school.. Let's stop to be too subjective in our judgments.. No one deserves to be treated badly...
You should be ashamed of yourself abdullahi, see what religious extremism has caused you. Can a female Christian go to an islamic school and refuse to dress with hijab. Of course she will not be admitted in the first place. Nigeria is a secular state, institutions are governed by rules, that school is not the only school in Ibadan. If they dont want to abide by the school rules then they should take her to islamic school. Moreover there is a court ruling barring the use of hijab in that school, so it is the school authority that is being treated badly by the girl's overzealous father Badiru, i guess you know the law more than the court that ruled in favour of the school.
You are indeed a shameless extremist abdullahi.
EducationRe: Man Embarrassed As Ibadan School Refused Letting Daughter In Because Of Hijab by Benite:
Oga it is not compulsory to attend the school, every institution is governed by rules, if you are not ok with it then take your child to islamic school were it is allowed. Shouuu na by force?
Indeed the so called Idris Olabode Badiru is a trouble maker. You can't force your rules on school, obviously your so called "Dr" title is a tragic waste with this your attitude and mentality, imagine your religion comes first before your childs education and well being. Every child is expected to dress same, that is why it is called "uniform".
You are truly Bad Mr Badiru and should be ashamed of yourself.

Oga scan says your wife is not pregnant but this might not be true because scan doesnt pick pregnancy immediately a woman is pregnant, she has to be pregnant for some weeks before it can be picked also note that ultrasound scan is operator dependent to some extent and machine may not be in good shape etc. I will advise you to wait and see your doctor, yes who knows it can be ectopic or molar pregnancy, or real or not at all. Whatever be the case will be appropriately addressed.

Christianity EtcLeah Sharibu: TB Joshua Calls For Three Days Prayer And Fasting by Benite(op): 8:58am On Apr 08, 2019
As Chibok, Dapchi representatives pray for release of Leah Sharibu at Synagogue Lagos – Representatives of Chibok in Borno and Dapchi in Yobe on Sunday sought spiritual help at The Synagogue, the Church of All Nations, at Ikotun-Egbe, Lagos to pray for the release of Leah Sharibu and other students kidnapped by Boko Haram.

The representatives who carried several placards told the General Overseer, Prophet Temitope Joshua, that they were at The Synagogue because they had exhausted all human efforts to get the students released. A spokesman of the representatives told Prophet Joshua that the father of Leah Sharibu could not come with them because he had been bedridden by stroke, as a result of the kidnap of her daughter.
He said they had been watching his ministry through Emmanuel Television (the church’s cable TV) and all the help he had rendered to the sick and the less privileged, hence their joint visit to plead for intercessory prayers for the release of the students. The spokesman said they had no doubt that with the approval of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God could trigger the release of the remaining students kidnapped in 2014 and 2018. Prophet Joshua told them that there was nothing impossible in the sight of the Creator of Heaven and Earth

He urged the congregation and viewers of Emmanuel Television worldwide to pray and fast on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, this week, for the release of the remaining students. He said that “there is nothing God cannot do” and urged all to see the prayer and fasting on the mentioned days as an assignment. Some of the placards read: Please intercede on our behalf for the release of Leah Sharibu; The remaining 112 students kidnapped in Chibok are yet to be released, please help, among others. On April 14, 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State. Responsibility for the kidnappings was claimed by Boko Haram, an extremist terrorist organization based in North eastern Nigeria.
Since 2014, 164 of the students had regained their freedom, while 112 are still held by Boko Haram.

Also on Feb. 19, 2018, no fewer than 110 schoolgirls were kidnapped by the Boko Haram terrorist group from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, located in Bulabulin, Yunusari Local Government area of Yobe State. One hundred and nine of the students were released, except Leah Sharibu, who was said to have refused to denounce Christianity.
