Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), an Igbo apex socio-political youth group has declared June 5 for a two million march in Abuja to press home their resolution that the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Kalu, should emerge as the Senate President in the 10th National Assembly, IGBERETV reports.

The group resolved that, Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, is consensus candidate of the people of South-East for the position of the Senate President.

The group made the declaration following its general meeting in Owerri.

COSEYL, in a communique, said it had resolved that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress should zone the Senate President’s position to South-East for fairness, equity and justice.

The communique, which was signed by the President General of the Igbo youth groups, Goodluck Ibem, Secretary, Ndubuisi Uche; and Publicity secretary, Okey Nwaoru, also called on President Bola Tinubu to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, for medical treatment.

The group said, “The leadership of the All Progressive Congress should zone the position of the Senate President to South-East geopolitical zone and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the current Senate Chief Whip, is the consensus candidate of the people of South-East. This will ensure fairness, equity and justice.

“We are going all out for a two-million-man March in support of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. We not only believe that it is the turn of the Igbo to produce the next Senate President, judging by the current political arrangements in the country, we solely believe that Orji Kalu is the most suitable for the position of the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Nigeria's President, Bola Tinubu and his wife, Remi Tinubu entertained their fans with their amazing dance steps at the presidential inaugural ball held at the State House Conference Center in Abuja on Monday, IGBERETV reports.

The family of deceased Nollywood actor, Obinna Nwafor (aka Saint Obi) has described as ‘’false, malicious and insensitive'' the claims made by movie maker, Zik Zulu, that Lynda, wife of the deceased actor maltreated him during their marriage, IGBERETV reports.

Two days ago, Zik Zulu published an article in which he claimed that Obi's marriage to Lynda was largely troubled. According to him, Saint Obi withdrew from everyone including his colleagues in the movie industry shortly after his marriage. He alleged that Obi had a running battle with his inlaws, who saw him as a golddigger because his wife is a top shot in a Telecommunication company.

Zulu's revelation got many Nigerians shocked and some Nigerians took to social media to attack Lynda.

However, in a statement signed by his older sisters, Ugoeze Edith Chinyere Obichuku and Mrs. Freda Nwachukwu, the family dissociated themselves from Zik Zuku's claims. The family described the allegations as false, malicious and insensitive and that they do not in any way represent the Lynda they know.

Our attention has been drawn to the publication by one Mr. Zik Zulu Okafor concerning the death of our son, Mr. Obinna Nwafor, popularly known as Saint Obi, and the accompanying negative commentary in social and other media portraying his widow in an unfair and most defamatory manner. This is in no way, shape or form an accurate portrayal of the Lynda that we know and relate with.

The Nwafor family also views the said article by Mr. Okafor as sad and most unfortunate. It was neither written in consultation with any member of the family nor authored with our consent or authority. We totally disassociate ourselves from it.

The views and allegations contained therein are entirely the opinion of the writer. They are false, malicious and insensitive to the wife, children and entire family he left behind.

Three suspected kidnappers, Idris Abdullahi, Tukur Yusuf, and Ilyasu Aminu, have been arrested for attempting to kidnap a man and his son in Yarimawa village, Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, IGBERETV reports.

Parading the suspects alongside others criminals, the State Commissioner of Police (CP) Muhammed Usaini Gumel said the kidnappers stormed the residence of one Nasiru Yayaya and attempted to kidnap him and his son, Gaddafi.

However, the son resisted, which led to a fight. While trying to shoot Gaddafi, the kidnappers shot their gang member, who died on the spot.

"On 16/03/2023 at about 0100hrs, a report was received that gunmen stormed the residence of one Nasiru Yahaya, Yarimawa Village, Tofa LGA, Kano State, where they kidnapped him and his son, one Gaddafi Nasiru,” the CP said.

"In the process, the son resisted. In an attempt to shoot the son, they shot their colleague, one Umar Abdullahi, Alias Danbaba who died on the spot. The father escaped.

"Also, in an attempt to whisk the son, they shot two villagers on their legs who came to offer assistance. The victims were rushed to Tofa General Hospital, and they were treated and discharged.

“In a follow-up of the investigation, the following suspects were arrested; (i) Idris Abdullahi, ‘m’, 26 years of Janguza, Tofa LGA (ii) Tukur Yusuf, ‘m’, 40 years old, of Langyal, Tofa LGA, and (iii) Ilyasu Aminu, ‘m’, 25 years old, of Gargai Village, Bebeji LGA Kano State. Investigation is in progress."

Movie producer, Zik Zulu Okafor has narrated how actor Saint Obi's marriage took him away from his friends and acting, IGBERETV reports.

In an article he shared after Obi's death, Okafor who is also a former President of Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria revealed that the actor's wife was a top executive in a telecommunication company and her siblings always saw him as a “gold digger”.

He revealed that Saint Obi was always harassed by his wife's siblings and this eventually led to the end of the marriage. Okafor disclosed that the actor's health deteriorated mid last year before his eventual death.

"His social life was blunted. Perhaps by his reticent disposition. His persona, two dimensional. To a distant public, he was upscale and cool. His manly bearing spoke loud. His onscreen image ironically amplified some idiosyncrasies; heroics, romantic adventures and traits that did not gel with the mortal privacy that eerily define his quiet and lonely life.

"Saint Obi, real name, Obinna Nwafor, was shy, almost bordering on timidity and insecurity. He cherished the pleasantly tranquil interactions among a few friends. He would vanish at any outburst that could upset the poise of such small meetings. As he repeatedly told me, he just wanted to live a cool, quiet and fulfilled life. But, has he lived this cool and fulfilled life he envisioned ? I have my doubts.

"I tell Saint’s story here with painful tears in my eyes; because he was a star, a super star whose life turned out a gleam of irony. Yet, it was this stardom that fetched him his much professed financially strong and powerful wife. And their wedding, that solemn ritual of love, would drastically alter the cause of his life and tragically yank him off the creative community that threw him up for the wife to capture and indeed conquer.

"Their marriage was at best a dramatisation of love. It was quick. He barely told us that he found a wife. Then, the marriage happened. It was something of a mystique, only those involved understood the histrionics that played out. None of us who were his closest pals, who walked with him through the crucible to the crest of his career in Nollywood, was invited. The distance between us and the guy I admirably called Saint of the Storm had begun. This gulf would widen with each year. We saw him perhaps once in a year after this marriage.

"And life actually seemed to have given him a fair shake of the dice. He dressed well, drove big cars and even his skin, in literal lingo, spelt wellness.

"The Saint would be blessed with three beautiful children. But not one occasion were his friends in Nollywood invited for christening or birthday. We were told that his wife was of the topmost hierachy in telecom giant, MTN . But even if their celebrations were designed to be a rendezvous of the elites of the technocracies that his wife chiefly belonged, you expected that Saint would reach out to a few of his fellow creatives, for even if they would herald his small beginnings, there could be no tinge of shame to it because we all have our journeys and our stories. And even at that, the actor or cineaste in Nollywood is by no means poor.

"But more tragic is the fact that his marriage did not only take away Obinna from his friends, it took him away from Nollywood. Saint stopped acting, absconded from his career and perhaps his calling.

"It would seem prognostic now. Yes, because I recall leaving my house in Lagos Mainland for his massive office in Lekki, Victoria Island, Lagos. It was about six years ago. There, I demanded to know why my friend abandoned our industry. He told me with his usual shy expressions that he wanted to focus on some other businesses and also to work behind the camera. Because his visage was unconvincing to me, I told him in stark terms, that whatever his new vision and pursuits, he must not abandon the trade that made him who he was.

"It took another three years for Saint to return to his homies. But when he did, some of the deeply disappointed ones sniggered behind him. This was because the simmering rumours of cracks in his marriage had hit home. And though secretive in his ways, he knew it was time to open up. And he did. “I do not know why my wife’s sibblings see me as a gold digger. They confront me, harass and fight me in my own matrimony. And my wife did nothing to stop them. I work hard, I earn my money. I have never depended on my wife”, he lamented, eyes blurred with tears. You could tell he was in deep pain. By the next visit, the Saint returned with a deep cut from knife on his left eye. His wife’s brothers, he said, scaled the wall fence of their house to attack him. They were captured by hidden closed-circuit television, CCTV, installed for surveillance and security, he revealed.

"He reported them at the police station and subsequently acquired a gun to defend himself. This effectively marked the beginning of the end of his marriage and perhaps Saint Obi’s long walk to a sad end. He moved out of his marital home to a new house to begin the reconstruction of his destiny, alone without his wife and worse still without his three beautiful children.

"Meanwhile, his wife went to the police to defend her sibblings using her financial power to manipulate the cause of justice, Saint stated unequivocally. The wife also sued for divorce, not in Lagos, but in Ogun state. As Saint put it, “It was to make the journey difficult for me. But I will not bend neither will I break. I will fight with my last blood to take custody of my children. They love me and they know it will be hard for me to live without them. The divorce is not an issue. My marriage has long been over”, he said with a mix of courage and a quaky heart that betrayed his distress.

"About mid last year, however, Obinna took ill. But he told no one. He simply became scarce. He was in and out of hospital, we would later learn. He sold two of his three big SUVs to take proper care of his health and to acquire six camry cars he’d use for Uber. But his vanishing health continued unabated. He seemed to have a premonition of his own passing as he wept repeatedly about not seeing his children. He emaciated. Life took a grim picture. When I saw him by chance in January 2023, the dude called Saint looked 15 years older than his age. His macho cut had shrunk. His fat wallet was gone. What was left was only his fat will. His eyes seemed lost in their socket. This would be the last time I would see him.

"Saint snuck out of Lagos to hang in with his sister in Jos. He told no one. But a month ago, in April precisely, the once delightful actor who brought joy to many a home broke his icy silence. He called our mutual friend in US to give him a devastating message. He was on a deathbed, he said and wanted our friend to pray for him. “It’s not looking good, pray, pray for me”, he appealed passionately.

"His next call came on May 1, 2023. This time to his mentor, the man who made him a star with his productions, Zeb Ejiro, OON. He told him with a wavering voice that he had had three surgeries but was still in hospital in Jos. He averred again that his situation was not looking good, that he is also in a deep pain, distressed that he could not see his children. But still he begged him not to tell anyone about his ailment. Such was the life of this creative hermit, a lonely trouper. I was the first to hear the news of his death late on Sunday, May 7. Having confirmed it, I called Zeb Ejiro. “I have a very bad news my brother, Zeb”, I began.

“What is it, what is it, Zik Zulu?”, he asked anxiously. “A big star has fallen in Nollywood”. Zeb broke down in tears. I hadn’t said who it was. But sobbing helplessly now, he said, “Don’t tell me it is Saint Obi”. Sadly, Zeb was right. May his soul find peace."

An Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti, on Monday, May 15, sentenced three persons to death by hanging for conspiracy and armed robbery, IGBERETV reports.

The defendants: Omotayo Deji, 23, Chidiebere Ifeanyi, 25, and Bolaji Usman, 28, were arraigned before Justice Bamidele Omotoso on January 21, 2020, on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery.

The charge reads that the defendants on “May 6, 2019, at Aba Erinfun, Federal Polytechnic Road, Ado Ekiti in Ado Ekiti Judicial Division did conspire to commit a felony, to wit; armed robbery and robbed Ademiloye Stephen, Olokuntoye Temitope and Ajayi Kolade of their belongings, such as phones, laptop computer, sandals, phone chargers and power banks valued at N186,000, as at the time of the robbery. They were armed with cutlass and wooden plank,"

According to the charges, the alleged offences contradicted Sections 6 (b), 1 (2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. RII, Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

One of the victims in his statement to the police, said: “We were sleeping in our room at about 2:30 a.m., suddenly, I heard a loud sound on the door, immediately, we woke up, I saw the defendants armed with cutlass and wooden plank, immediately, they broke the electric bulb with the plank in their hand. They commanded us to lay face down and bring out all our money. We told them that we are students and we don’t have money, but they started beating us on our backs with sticks and cutlasses.

“Thereafter, they started collecting our phones, laptops, chargers, sandals, power banks and others I could not remember and ran away. We were later shouting for help but nobody came out.”

To prove his case, the police prosecutor, Kunle-Shina Adeyemo, called one witness and tendered statements of the victims and defendants, as well as phones among others as exhibits.

The defendants testified through their counsels, without calling witnesses.

In his judgement, Justice Bamidele Omotoso said, "I am of the strong opinion that the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt the offence of armed robbery against the defendants.

"They are hereby found guilty as charged and convicted for the offence of armed robbery.

“The sentence of the court upon you, Omotayo Deji, Chidiebere Ifeanyi, and Bolaji Usman is that you be hanged by the neck until you are dead, and may the Lord have mercy on your souls.”

Singer Seun Kuti spent the night in police custody after he was placed under arrest on Monday May 15, IGBERETV reports.

The singer who turned himself in yesterday, was detained as police couldn't complete their investigation into allegations of assault leveled against him. Recall that the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, ordered the singer's arrest after a video of him slapping and pushing a police officer surfaced online.

Seun was moved from the Lagos state police command headquarters in Ikeja to the State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba where he was interrogated into the night. He was then moved to a cell where he passed the night.

Police sources said he may be arraigned in court today depending on the outcome of his interrogation.

Nigerian lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika has faulted the decision of the police to take photos of singer Seun Kuti, share them online as well as handcuff him, IGBERETV reports.

Olumide-Fusika who accompanied Seun Kuti to the Lagos state police command headquarters on Monday, stated that the process was illegal, as it constitutes a violation of the Administration of Criminal Justice law.

The lawyer also argued that taking Seun's photos and posting them online violates section 9 of the Lagos State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, which has prohibited any form of parade of criminal suspects in Nigeria in Lagos State. He argued that Seun is presumed innocent until the contrary is proved by the State

His statement read;

‘’Following his encounter with a policeman on the Third Mainland Bridge on Saturday the 13th May, 2023, my client, Mr. Seun Kuti reported himself in the office of the Commissioner of Police at the Police Command, Ikeja, at 8 am today Monday May 15, 2023.

I accompanied him to the Ikeja police station together with another lawyer, Mr. Femi Akinyemi from Falana and Falana chambers.

However, there was no interrogation as it was decided he would be moved to the Force Criminal Investigation Unit at Panti, Yaba. Before his movement, Mr. Seun Kuti, was handcuffed and his photograph was taken in the open by the Lagos PPRO, Mr. David Hundeyin who coordinated the parade and apparently shared the photograph of his parade in the media.

Mr. Kuti is presumed innocent until the contrary is proved by the State. Therefore, the decision of the police to subject him to the media parade violates section 9 of the Lagos State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, which has prohibited any form of parade of criminal suspects in Nigeria in Lagos State. The Police is supposed to enforce the Law, but prefers to disrespect and break it so casually and randomly. A Police institution that has no respect for the law it exists to enforce is not a good example to alleged law breakers.

The decision of the police to handcuff Mr. Kuti is equally illegal as it constitutes a violation of Section 5 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

After handcuffing him, the Police then drove him in a long convoy of heavily armed personnel from Ikeja to Panti Lagos, where he was again displayed for viewing to the men and officers of that police formation, and is currently held.

We await the next move of the Police on the misdemeanor alleged against Mr. Seun Kuti.''

As Nigerians await the hearing of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal which will start on Monday May 8, former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), has urged Nigerians to accept the decisions of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal as final when delivered, IGBERETV reports.

Speaking at a symposium in honour of a one-time Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Chike Idigbe on Thursday, May 4, Gowon urged Nigerians to allow the courts do its work without interference.

“We need to allow the apex court to come up with their decisions and for the public to be humble enough to accept their decision as final in order to maintain the sanctity of the judiciary as individuals and institutions.

“The litigation tribunals that are now going, let us give the judiciary the opportunity to do their work and let us accept their decisions as it is,” Gowon said.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party challenge president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu's electoral win.

Peter Obi and Atiku are claiming to be the actual winners of the February 25 presidential election which was conducted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to the results released by INEC, Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 8.8 million votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 6.9 million votes, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) who polled 6.1 million votes and 15 others.

A 22-year-old man identified as Ibrahim Musa stabbed his biological mother to death in Kano, IGBERETV reports.

According to report, the incident happened around 6:pm on Wednesday, May 3, in Rimin Kebbe Quarters, Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Abdullahi Kiyawa Haruna, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, said the deceased, Hajara Muhammad, was brutally stabbed with a sharp knife.

The PPRO said tactical teams are currently on the ground to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspect.

“On 3rd May 2023 at about 1800hrs (6pm), a report was received that one Ibrahim Musa, 'm', 22 years old of Rimin Kebbe Quarters, Nassarawa LGA, Kano State stabbed his biological mother, one Hajara Mohammed, 'f', 50 years old with a sharp knife on different parts of her body and fled the scene,” the PPRO stated.

“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc directed the immediate deployment of all police assets to ensure that the perpetrator(s) are brought to book as soon as practicable,”

"The body with multiple injuries was removed from the scene in a pool of blood and rushed to Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital Kano where a Medical Doctor certified the body dead.

“A knife with a blood stain suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene. Tactical teams are currently on the ground to ensure the arrest of the culprit(s).”
