Veteran Nollywood actor, Chidi Mokeme has revealed that he was battling Bell's Palsy and this made him stay away from the movie scene, IGBERETV reports.

He said this during an interview on Channels TV's Rubbin' Minds. He explained that the illness caused one side of his face to droop. He added that the doctor told him it is incurable.

"It comes like a stroke and sort of affects one side of your face and gives your face a droop.

The doctor said it was incurable. They had no cure because they didn't know what causes it," he said.

He revealed that he had to leave the movie scene to focus on his business while he hoped to get better.

Bell's Palsy (facial paralysis) is a condition that causes sudden weakness in the muscles on one side of the face. In most cases, the weakness is temporary and significantly improves over weeks. Bell's palsy may be a reaction to a viral infection. It rarely occurs more than once.

A popular High Life musician in Ebonyi State, Kelvin Ibinabo was allegedly brutalized by an Aide to Governor David Umahi in the State, IGBERETV reports.

Speaking to journalists, Ibinabo said that the aide, known as Machiavelli Uzo, who is the Coordinator of Ohaozara Development Centre in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, attacked him on Saturday, January 22, with his loyalists and locked him up in a dark room.

Narrating his ordeal, the Musician said he was booked by the Ohaozara local government area Chairman, Consider Ajah to perform at the burial event of his mother-in-law in the Local Government last week.

The musician said that when it was dusk, he ordered his crew to pack up and called it a day.

“It was at that point that the Ohaozara Development Centre Coordinator, Machiaveli Uzo emerged from nowhere and ordered me to play a campaign song of Mr Francis Nwifuru, the APC governorship candidate in Ebonyi State.”

Ibinabo said he replied him that it was nightfall and they should be leaving for Abakaliki and that the event he came to perform was not a political event.

But the Coordinator threatened to attack him with his boys, if he didn’t do what he ordered him to do.

Mr Ibinabo at that point had no choice and for the sake of peace picked microphone and started playing the song for him.

After about 20 minutes he dropped the microphone but Mr Uzo again ordered him to pick the microphone again and continue to sing.

But Ibinabo this time refused to sing and instead ordered his crew to pack up so they could leave the scene.

The Coordinator and his thugs descended on Ibinabo beating him with different weapons. After beating him to pulp, they took him into a room in the compound and locked him up.

The Police in Ohaozara later arrived and rescued him from the room and took him to Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki for treatment.

Mr Ibinabo noted that the Chairman, Consider Ajah was not around when the incident happened as he had left for Abakaliki to attend a meeting. He exonerated the Chairman from the incident adding that the Chairman has been good to him in the past.

“He was not aware of it and if he was aware it won’t have happened. He has been the one taking care of my hospital bills since that Saturday.

“He is always coming to the hospital to check up on me and ensure I get the best treatment. I have known him for a long time and can say it anywhere that he didn’t have anything to do with the attack”, Ibinabo said.

Contacted, the Coordinator, Mr Uzo denied attacking the musician whom he described as his friend. He said he pleaded with the artist to sing a song for him which the artist agreed.

He said the musician asked the DJ to play the song and they all sang and danced along while he sprayed the musician and his band members with some money

“After that, we went inside the house and were making merry but after sometimes he(Ibinabo) said he wants to go outside and check something.

“The next thing I heard was a commotion with some people beating him and chasing him into the house. I was also surprised by the actions of his attackers like others inside”, he said.

Mr Uzo while regretting the ordeal the artist went through, said he is working with security agencies and the Council Chairman to apprehend and prosecute perpetrators.

The Coordinator dismissed insinuations that he was out to tarnish the image of the Council Chairman. He said he has no issues with the Chairman adding that they have a cordial relationship and are working together for the development of the council and state.

Efforts made to reach the Council Chairman, Mr Ajah for comments was abortive, as at the time of this report.

She claimed her father never believed in her saying she was a mistake. The 22-year-old said this while chatting with her fellow female housemates on Tuesday, January 17.

“I was in 300 level when I had to drop out. I cried a lot coz of this. This made me to go through a lot. I had to take care of myself.

The Nigeria Police Force has commended a female police officer, Inspector Justina Rita Omogbai, for her professionalism and positive representation, IGBERETV reports.

The officer attached to the Traffic Unit of the Sabo Divisional Headquarters in Lagos State, went viral after she was spotted tending to school pupils at Sabo junction.

A LinkedIn user who shared photos said she ensures that the pupils are properly dressed and also pays attention to the children anytime they need to cross the busy road.

A statement issued by the Force spokesperson, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday, January 24, hailed the officer for her "commitment and acts of professionalism displayed in the course of her traffic duties and for positively representing the Force amongst the community, particularly to school children crossing the road at her duty post, by taking personal steps to ensure they are properly dressed and safe while heading to and from school,"

The drug trafficking trial of Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Abba Kyari,resumed on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, IGBERETV reports.

The suspended officer who is currently facing an eight-count charge alongside four members of his police Intelligence Response team; ACP Sunday J. Ubia, ASP Bawa James, Insp. Simon Agirigba and Insp. John Nuhu, claimed that the charges are all defective.

His lawyer, Mr Nureni Jimoh, SAN, told the court that the charge was premature and that the NDLEA should have allowed the police to exhaust its internal machinery before it instituted the action.

Jimoh further claimed that the police had already commenced an investigation into allegations against his client and issued an interim report.

Asides from arguing that his client can only be charged to court upon conclusion of the internal investigation by the police, the lawyer also stated that the Police Service Commission (PSC) has similar powers to investigate and discipline erring police officers in line with the Police Act & Regulations, the same way the National Judicial Council, NJC, discipline judicial officers.

He urged the court to strike out the charge and discharge him. Jimoh's application was also adopted by the other Defendants who prayed the court to terminate further proceedings in the charge against them.

This was however countered by NDLEA's Director of Legal Services, Mr Sunday Joseph, who asked the court to dismiss the defendants’ preliminary objection.

Joseph argued that what the agency brought before the court was a criminal case for the violation of laws and not a disciplinary action for the infringement of police service rules.

He added that unlike the Armed Forces Act that made provision for establishment of a Court Martial, the Police Act, expressly stated that police officers are not exempted from any criminal liability under the law.

NDLEA further argued that if it was the duty of the police to investigate or prosecute drug-related cases, it would not have transferred such cases to it.

Joseph said;

”It was the police itself that brought this matter to us, knowing that it has no power to handle cases that fall under the NDLEA Act.

“Powers of police does not include selling of hard drugs that were seized. That is what we classify as tampering and that is the charge the Defendants are facing before this court.

“It is the Police Act itself that says that police officers can be charged. The 1st Defendant, Kyari, was even on suspension when he committed the offence.

”The Applicants have not by way of an affidavit or legal argument, established any condition precedent required for the filing of this charge. To that extent, their application must fail as it is misconceived and bereft of any legal or factual structure.

“We urge my lord to dismiss the application and proceed to hear of the matter”

Justice Emeka Nwite adjourned the matter till March 22 for a ruling after listening to the arguments.

The Lagos State Government has declared Tuesday, January 24 to Friday, January 27 as work-free days for public servants in the state so they can go collect their Permanent Voter Cards at their respective local government/local council development areas in the state, IGBERETV reports.

This was made known by the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola. In a circular released, Muri-Okunola said the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, graciously approved the work-free day for the public servants.

“Consequent upon the extension of the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards by the Independent National Electoral Commission, it is hereby notified for the general information that all public servants who are yet to collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards from designated INEC Centers are encouraged to do so before Sunday, January 29, 2023, as it is a civic responsibility to vote.

To this end, Mr Governor has graciously approved a work-free day to enable public servants to collect their PVCs from their respective local government/local council development areas as presented in the table below.”

The dates include Tuesday, January 24, 2023, for grade levels 01, 03, 07 and 15; Wednesday, January 25, 2023, for grade levels 02, 04, 08 and 13; Thursday, January 26, 2023, for grade levels 05, 09, 12, and 17; and Friday, January 27, 2023, for grade levels 06, 10, 14 and 16.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three notorious cultists and recovered two locally made pistols, live ammunition, charms, among others, IGBERETV reports.

Spokesman of the command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Friday, January 13, said that the suspects were among members of the Viking Confraternity who had allegedly been involved in cult-related killings in Nkpor and Obosi communities.

According to the PPRO, the suspects, Caleb Nwankwo, Katchi Nwolisa, and Okechukwu Freedom were arrested during a raid on a criminal hideout in Nkpor Idemili North LGA.

One of the suspects, Okechukwu was shot during a fierce gun duel with police operatives.

"In relentless efforts of the Command Operatives to take the battle to the door-step of the criminal elements who are bent on fomenting trouble and acts meant to cause tension in the state, burst three notorious cultists, recover *two locally made pistols, one ladies machine, one expanded cartridge, charms, face mask and substance suspected to be hard drugs," the statement read.

"On 11/1/2023 by 5 am, Police operatives acting on credible intelligence burst into a criminal hideout in Nkpor Idemili North LGA. The suspects, Caleb Nwankwo 'm aged 22year, Katchi Nwolisa ‘m’ aged 23years, and Okechukwu Freedom ‘m’ aged unknown, on sighting the police, and in an attempt to escape the scene, started shooting indiscriminately. The police engaged the armed hoodlums in a gun duel, demobilized Okechukwu, and arrested the two others with gunshot wounds.

"They all confessed to be members of Viking Confrantenity and identified the late Okechukwu as their leader. The suspect also has been involved in the cult-related killings in Nkpor, Obosi, and was actively involved in the cult attack that led to the murder of Chimeile Udemba on 1/12/2022 and Ikenna Nwagbulu on 14/12/2022 all in Obosi.

"In another development, the Operatives responding to distress calls on 11/1/2023 by 10:30 am along little hood estate, Obosi recovered one locally made pistol, one expanded cartridge, and one ladies' motorcycle. The suspects, on sighting the police operatives, abandoned the recovered exhibits and take to their heels. Efforts are in top gear to arrest the assailants,"

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, have ordered Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Commanders of Tactical/Operational Units/Formations to embark on aggressive crime-prevention and visibility patrols in their areas of responsibility.

"This plan shall enhance adequately already policing strategy put in place that is potently and dynamic to respond to any emergency, and security concerns and prevent untoward activities by criminal elements." the statement added.

Nigerian music artist manager, Ubi Franklin got a tattoo of Davido's late son's nickname, IGBERETV reports.

A 50-year-old man identified as Ojo Ogundeji, has died after setting himself ablaze, razing down his father’s house in Oloruntedo area, Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State, IGBERETV reports.

According to reports, the deceased locked himself inside a room and lit the fire. The Nation reported he told his rescuers before he died, that he committed the act because he was being mocked about his living condition.

He killed himself after returning from Lagos State to celebrate Christmas and New Year holidays with his family.

A witness, Mrs Sabaina Ogundeji, said:

“In the morning, Ojo set fire under the staircase of the house and said nobody should put it off. But with the help of people on the street, it was put off.

“In the evening, everybody was outside playing. So, Ojo went in and brought out his clothes and set them on fire. He later went inside and locked himself up in the room and set it on fire. It was his voice we heard when he was shouting. People ran there to force the door open and brought him out. But he later died in the hospital.”

Another witness said;

“When we rescued Ojo, he was not yet dead. He told us that he set the house on fire because some people were making jest of him because of his problem.

“His remains have been deposited at the morgue in the state hospital, Ondo.”

A 19-year-old lady, Cynthia Ikade, was arraigned before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for conspiring with a gang to rob her former employer, Esther Okanlawon, of N2.8 million, and other valuables, IGBERETV reports.

On Thursday, January 12, 2023, Ikade was arraigned along with her accomplises, Pius Sunday, 28, and Loveth Uloko, 20.

Ikade, who worked as a maid for Okanlawon at her house in Mushin area of the state, was said to have suddenly stated that she was no longer interested in the job. Her employer called the agent through whom she was employed, to come take her, but the agent could not be reached on the phone.

The teenager then requested that she wanted Sunday, who she claimed was her brother, to pick her from the house. Sunday, while leaving the house with Ikade, then urged the woman to call him anytime she needed another maid to replace Ikade, saying he was also an agent.

It was gathered that Okanlawon called him after three months to bring in another maid, and he sent Uloko.

Sunday and Ikade, alongside one Henry, still at large, allegedly invaded the woman’s house on October 10, 2022, and robbed the family, with the help of Uloko, who allegedly opened the gate and kitchen back door for them.

The defendants were arraigned on three counts of conspiracy, armed robbery, and unlawful conversion.

The charges read in part, “That you, Pius Sunday, Ikade Cynthia, Loveth Uloko, and one other at large, on or before October 10, 2022, at on Isiaka Nade Street, Mushin, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, while in the service of the victim, as an agent to housemaids, did intentionally arm yourselves with a locally-made gun and a knife and robbed Mrs Esther Okanlawon and her two visitors of the sum of 2,150,000, a wedding ring valued at N300,000, 500 pounds, 170 US dollars, 100 Canadian dollars, a handbag valued at 15 pounds and other valuables, all property of Esther Okanlawon and her family, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015."

The plea of the defendants was not taken.

The prosecutor, Godwin Oriabure, pleaded that the three defendants be remanded in a custodial centre for 30 days pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. The presiding Chief Magistrate, A. O. Salawu, adjourned the case till February 9, 2023, for legal advice.

A lady identified as Ogochukwu Anene aka Ada Akwa has died after being assaulted by her husband in Awka, Anambra State, IGBERETV reports.

According to reports, the deceased was married to Ndubisi Wilson Uwadiegwu and their marriage had been one ladened with domestic violence.

It is reported that the couple are blessed with five children, 4 boys and a girl. Narrating the latest incident that led to her death, the first son, 14, said that Ndubuisi used a mirror as an instrument to beat his wife.

He noted that his mother had asked the suspect for money to buy a loaf of bread for them to eat but was met with rejection as he claimed he didn’t have a dime on him. She used her money to buy the bread and her husband went to the kitchen to finish the whole loaf of bread.

This got Ogochukwu infuriated and she proceeded to ask him why he ate the loaf of bread without remaining for the kids. He got rankled by her inquiry and unleashed horror on her. He beat her black and blue which led to her demise.

It is reported that the audacious suspect is planning to bury his wife without informing his in-laws hence sparking social media outrage.

President Muhammadu Buhari has joined Catholics worldwide in mournung the death of the former Pope Benedict XVI at age 95, IGBERETV reports.

Below is a statement released on Saturday from the Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), Femi Adesina.

“On behalf of the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari commiserates with Pope Francis, the Catholic Church in Nigeria and around the world, as well as all Christian faithful who mourn the passing of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI”.

President Buhari has said that while in secondary school, his teachers flogged him many times for always avoiding the school farm, IGBERETV reports.

The President said this in a documentary titled ‘Essential Muhammadu Buhari’, which aired on Sunday, January 1.

While recounting his early days in high school, the president said the teachers of his generation were dedicated to the profession.

“Teachers of our generation are absolutely committed and dedicated. They treated us like their own children. If you do well, you will be praised before the classroom, and if you perform poorly, you will be flogged on the buttocks with your face on the wall.

There is no way I can forget Mallam Abdul. He was a very strict person and he didn’t spare the rod — we called it ‘bulala’.

Then, we didn’t like the rainy season because we had to go to the school farm. And if you were late to school, from 6am to 2pm, you will be flogged on your buttocks. We did remove our shorts so that you will get the message properly.

Among the teachers, I will not forget our Arabic teacher. No matter how hot it was, he did come into the class with a turban. Every week, we were given, to recite verses from the Qur’an.

I was beaten a lot because I always avoid going to the school farm. And if you miss the school farm, you won’t be allowed to go for a break. But what I used to do was to go all over the school rest room and sometimes, I will eat apples when others are in the classroom. And no one can forget all these.”he said

A private hospital in Warri, Delta State has allegedly seized a newborn twin for non-payment of a N383,500 hospital bill.

According to Punch, the mother of the twins, Mrs Akpesiri Ojiko delivered the two babies on November 17, 2022, at the general hospital Warri.

One of the babies was taken to the private hospital, Unique Health Medical Center, on referral by the general hospital as a result of a lack of bed space.

Narrating her ordeal, Mrs Ojiko appealed to the Delta State government and well-meaning individuals to assist in upsetting the medical bill to enable her to have access to her baby.

"I give birth to the babies on November 17 last year, a male and a female at the general hospital Warri but the hospital management told us that they did not have bed space to accommodate the babies and they cannot keep the two babies in one bed," she narrated.

"They started calling some clinics to refer the baby but we refused because we know some of these clinics they mention, and we told them that they are expensive and that can’t pay their bills. Finally, they referred us to Unique Health Medical Center here in Warri, we don’t have any options than to go,"

"The baby was to be discharged on November 27, 2022, but since we couldn’t pay the bill, the hospital seized the baby until we pay the balance the baby will not be released.

"The bill is N433,500 before my sister brought N50,000. We have paid N50,000 for my sister brought, then we will pay the balance of N383,500 for my baby to be released.

"My baby is about a month and some weeks while I have not set my eyes on the female baby for a month now, don’t even allow me to see her. Please I’m begging governor Ifeanyi Okowa and others to help me."

It was also gathered that the father of the babies, Mr Destiny Ojiko, a Keke operator who ran away earlier on hearing the N433,500 hospital bill out of frustration had resurfaced crying for help.

When Punch contacted the hospital, the Doctor in charge said the female twin can’t be released to her mother except for the balance of N382,500 is paid.

The spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has released the photo of Inspector Imeh Johnson, the officer who allegedly shot dead a civilian, Gafaru Buraimoh, in the Ajah area of Lagos state on December 6, 2022, IGBERETV reports.

Gafaru was out to buy fuel when the bullet fired by the trigger-happy police officer killed him.

Hundeyin shared Inspector Imeh's photo and stated that the orderly room proceedings (with recommendation) have been forwarded to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Zone 2, Lagos for review and final decision.
