I think Nigerians that decide to protest have rights/ freedom of expression just like a lot of Nigerians on SM that support the US have rights too. Even though I don't protest. But that's the beauty of Democracy as you don't expect them to imitate those countries you mentioned above. Please let's learn to tolerate other people & their views. Trust me the world will be safer and more peaceful.

The police in Katsina, on Monday, confirmed that its Operation Puff Adder team on Sunday evening rescued some occupants of two J5 buses hijacked by suspected bandits at Ruma village . The village is along the Jibia/Batsari road.

The police said seven occupants of the two vehicles were still missing as of Monday morning.

The spokesman for the command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the development in a statement in Katsina on Monday.

According to him, those missing are Alhaji Maazu Yasore,80;Alhaji Nuhu ,45;Kabiru Hashimu,37;Dan Asibi Tella,50; Sani Kokari,70;Nura Shambal,45 and Ali Dan Maituwo,65.

It was learnt that the bandits, numbering about 60 and armed with AK-47 rifles, on Sunday evening, blocked the highway and stopped the two vehicles at the Ruma village before taking all the occupants into the bush.

A search party, led by the Operation Puff Adder team, shortly after the abduction, reportedly stormed the bush where they succeeded in rescuing all other occupants except the seven still being looked for as of Monday morning

The statement read, “What truly happened was that yesterday(Sunday) 5/01/2020 at about 18:00hrs, bandits, numbering over 60 and armed with AK-47 rifles, blocked Jibia-Batsari road at Ruma village, forcefully stopped two J5 motor vehicles and took the occupants of the vehicles into the bush.

“Search party led by Operation Puff Adder went after the hoodlums but succeeded in rescuing all the victims with the exception of seven others. The police in collaboration with community members are combing the bush with a view to rescuing the remaining seven persons not seen.”

MAIDUGURI (Reuters) - At least 30 people were killed in the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno after an improvised explosive device detonated on a bridge, sources told Reuters on Monday.

The bomb detonated at roughly 5 p.m. local time (1600 GMT) on a crowded bridge in the market town of Gamboru that leads into neighboring Cameroon.

Witnesses in the market town said more than 35 injured people were taken to the local hospital following the attack.

"It is an unfortunate day for us to witness this frustrating and devastating incident in our community," eyewitness Modu Ali Said told Reuters.

"I just heard a loud sound of explosions, before I realized I saw many of our friends and colleagues were killed," Said added.

A military spokesman said he would provide comment later in the evening.

Two sources with the Civilian Joint Task Force, a group of citizens formed to fight Boko Haram, confirmed the attack and the early death toll estimates.

No group immediately took responsibility. Both Boko Haram and the regional offshoot of Islamic State, known as ISWAP, are active in the area.

The theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi, has survived Boko Haram attack

- Boko Haram insurgents were said to have laid an ambush for the army general on Monday, January 6, while he was returning from Jakana area of Maiduguri

- General Adeniyi's vehicle was said to have been badly damaged and riddled with gun holes after the attack

A report by Daily Trust indicates that Boko Haram insurgents on the night of Monday, January 6, ambushed the convoy of the theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi.

Legit.ng gathered that General Adeniyi survived the attack which took place few kilometres away from Jakana around 7:20pm.

The newspaper reports that a military source said the theatre commander was on his way back to Maiduguri after a visit to troops who were recently deployed to Jakana.

The troops were deployed to Jakana in order to protect lives and property in the general area against Boko Haram attack

"They bombarded us with heavy fire from different angle but our men with the Theatre commander successfully repelled the attack,” the source was quoted as saying.
