Lagos and taxes! Very soon you would start paying eating tax, sleeping tax, boyfriend/girlfriend tax. Anyway, the merriment tax could be another means of getting funds for the government if it is packaged well. Meanwhile, they would first start collecting the merriment tax from politicians because they are the ones that throw elaborate parties, and not the masses. |
Aifey: The time is ripe 2take. Up. Arms against this PDP I'm sure you are one of the terrorists terrorizing the country. I wish law enforcement agents will arrest you. Well meaning Nigerians are soliciting for peace and you are here clamouring for people to take up arms against PDP. How sure are you that CPC, ACN or APC would lead us better? @TOPIC: I'm laughing at Dino Melaye for calling on America to help fight corruption in an independent republic like Nigeria. Is America our colonial master? Or are there no cases of corruption in America? Does Dino think that Obama does not have corruption cases to tackle in his country? The fact that we may not know of corruption cases in America is because they do not want outsiders to know about them. They keep their negative secrets to themselves, yet people like Dino Melaye have chosen to gladly sell out their country for a plate of continental dish. |
Speaking to journalists in Abuja today, he called on the 36 states of the federation to join the war against terrorism in order to make the State of Emergency work effectively. The PDP chieftain said that although Borno, Yobe and Adamawa would principally feel the heat of the State of Emergency, all the states in the country must begin to guard their boarders, as a proactive measure for limiting the scope and space for the operations of terrorists. Tukur, who spoke to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, said no sacrifice should be considered as being too much in the efforts aimed at containing terrorism in the country, a reason he said the PDP has been at the forefront of the campaign against the menace in the country. He said all states must proactively guard their boarders so as to contain expected spill overs from those states where terrorists would be flushed out. “Before now, I have been campaigning against terrorism which I described as evil,” he said. “I said the fight against the evil must involve everyone and not security personnel alone. “If our security men are fighting terrorists in Yobe, the neighbouring states should not fold arms. We all need to be more vigilant and active such that if terrorists escape from one state, they would have no breathing space in any area they may decide to invade with the aim of re-grouping.” He said that President Jonathan took the last option of declaring a State of Emergency because the terrorist were becoming more daring as they were even planning to declare a state of their own. |
Emmadani: d problem is not a fighting force...Sum security operatives must especially the police are close friends to most politicians,so sum security operatives do as their oga at d top wants....Its called the game of politrics...!I think its hightime military take over this country or else dissolvin d country is the only solution...C as far as politics is concernd, nigeria can never work. The truth is bitterMr. Man, what did the donkey years of military rule benefit this country? The solutions lies in everybody (from bottom to top) having a change of mind, positive attitude and being patriotic. Dividing the country or having the military take over can never be the solution. Don't say I didn't tell you. |
citizenisb: This is proof of the massive decay and rot in the Nigerian system and proves that this country is a FAILED STATE!!!@OP, Wait a minute Bro, so for the fact that some citizens of the country decided to tow the line of civil disobedience and headstrong brutality, the Country now became a failed state? Instead of you to appeal to your fellow citizens to be law abiding, you are here saying trash. You better watch your mouth |
As 247ureports.com learnt, Malam Umar Shehu has been named the new Nasarawa State commissioner of police, following the retirement of former commissioner, Abayomi Akeremale. While mounting the office of commissioner, the new commissioner assured the people of Nasarawa that the protection of lives and properties will remain his focus. In his words, “we are ready to restore peace and confidence of the people“. Soliciting for the cooperation of all and sundry, CP Shehu tasked men and officers of Nigeria Police on sincerity, dedication and commitment in the cause of discharging their responsibility. He also sued for the cooperation of journalist in the state, describing the press as veritable tool for the dissemination of information. While responding, the chairman of the correspondent chapel, Chuwang Dungs assured the commissioner of total support. The new police commissioner commiserated with family members of the officers that lost their lives in Alakyo village last week Tuesday, adding the ugly incident will not deter the police in performing their statutory duties as spelt out in the 1999 constitution and other statutory laws of the Federation. Meanwhile, the police is yet to make an arrest. http://247ureports.com/nasarawa-gets-new-police-commissioner/ |
The new CP should better learn some lessons from the old CP's experience. He should learn to always plan his operations well before sending people's husbands and children into the field. And for the old CP, he should better tell us now how much he collected from the Governor that mad him to blindly send out people for such an opeartion without prior investigations. |
norseman2: We then called an ambulance which came within seven It happens in Lagos State. Most times, even within lesser time. I've witnessed it severally. The paramedics in the ambulance are always fully equipped and they start treating you already before getting to the hospital. |
Okay Sir, we are waiting. And I hope you will douse the current tension in the country, concerning the recent gruesome murder of policemen and other security enforcement agents in Nassarawa and in Bama. |
This is a serious bad market for her career. By the way, even if she was a witch, she has been delivered, right? So why stigmatize her and still call her a witch when she has been delivered. It's not good oh |
PEREP: Does he have power to institute a law suit for treason is the question? Can a private Citizen approach the court to try another citizen within a republic for treason?Search me! This was the same question I asked. The Nigerian state that was threatened has not instituted a legal action against Dokubo, it's Dino Melaye. On what grounds? As a rep of which arm or tier of government? #Noise-making-thingz# |
Dino Melaye is another attention seeker fighting so hard to remain relevant and heard in the society. If not, why would he be the one to sue Dokubo over his comments? Who sent him? Which arm of government or institution is he representing? Meanwhile, he only "said" he/ his lawyers had sued Dokubo, who saw the document? Who knows, he may not have actually sued Dokubo as he claimed. He just wants to add his own voice to the operation-condemn-Dokubo. |
Bad Attitude: Ok...how many people are following?Every concerned Nigerian should. |
This question has been asked for the umpteenth time here on Nairaland. Please people, 2015 is still years ahead. Let us just leave all this "2015 this & that" for now and focus on solving the current problems facing the country for now. |
FG to employ 10,000 rural health workers in 2013 The Minister of State for Health, Dr Muhammad Pate, on Monday, said the Federal Government had concluded plans to employ 10,000 health workers by the end of the year. Pate said this at the launch of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) scheme in Abuja. “By the end of this year, we will have at least 10,000 health workers sent to rural areas who are mostly women to serve other women to help prevent them dying during child birth.’’ He said the CCT effort was to ensure that women received the needed health care, noting that only two-thirds of pregnant women attended ante-natal care. Pate said that SURE-P MCH was set up by the Federal Government to reduce maternal and newborn mortality in the country. He said that N16 billion of the SURE-P budget was channelled to maternal and child health, explaining that it meant that N100 million would be used every year for mothers and children. Pate said for a woman to qualify for CCT, she should be confirmed pregnant at the Primary Health Centre registered with the SURE-P MCH programme. She should also meet other conditions such as receiving focused Ante Natal Care (ANC) four times during her pregnancy, receiving routine drugs and obtaining necessary immunisation. Also, the mother should deliver the baby under the supervision of skilled birth attendant and attend a postnatal clinic appointment within two days of delivery. Pate said the woman would be given N5,000 after completing the conditions for the CCT. “The breakdown of the cash support is registration; first ANC visit qualifies the woman for N1,000; second, third and fourth ANC qualify her for additional N1,000. “Delivery at the PHC or at home under the care of a skilled birth attendant qualifies her for N2,000 while postnatal clinic and immunisation qualifies her for N1,000.’’ Pate advised community leaders to ensure that only those who qualified were given the money, adding that they needed to know how much was involved and spent. “The community leaders must monitor the programme for transparency and accountability for a better result.’’ He said that in 2012, the government committed to saving one million lives by 2015 through increased access to cost-effective health services and commodities. Dr Precious Gbeneol, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), said there was a reduction in maternal mortality rate from the 2008 National Demographic Health Survey. She said the under-five mortality rate of 157 deaths per 1,000 live had reduced to 94 per 1,000. Gbeneol also said that maternal mortality ratio had improved to 350 per100,000 live birth from 545 per 100,000 recorded in 2008. She said the country was still 28.6 per cent away from the 2015 target noting that there was progress in the health areas. The presidential aide said that in 2008, deliveries that had skilled birth attendance were 38.9 per cent but rose to 53.6 per cent in 2012. Gbeneol said the CCT was extended to 56,500 households through the disbursement of N10 billion to 24 states in 2012 with half of the amount being counterpart contribution from participating states. Dr Fatima Adamu, Technical Adviser to the Chairman, SURE-P Committee, said the fund would support 500 primary health care centres and 125 General Hospitals across the country. Adamu said the CCT would be extended to eight other states. 261 women were given cash ranging from N1,300 to N4,000. What if he was just "shaking hands" with the driver? |
But why on earth would somebody still enter a BRT bus, seeing that it is jam-packed already? Do we also need the government or monitoring systems to tell us that "the bus is full, please do not enter?!" |
Bad Attitude: oya take the lead! That's what I've just done. |
olaric: Why won't he make more threats when he has an "oga at the top" (Aso Rock)? Olaolufred: HE IS ACTUALLY SENT BY THAT SAME OGA,He was not sent by abybody, he is just seeking relevance and trying to warm his way into Goodluck's heart. He feels that by making such statements, he would be in the good books of Goodluck. I don't believe he is speaking on behalf of Goodluck at all. Wiz-Prince:One does not have to be an Hausa man/woman to be a Muslim, and not all Muslims in Nigeria are Hausas. It's just a choice of religion. It's the same way you have Christians in the northern part of the country. |
These past few days, we have seen reports of how Boko haram members killed Officers of the Nigeria Prison Service and Policemen in Bama, Borno State; and also the killing of over 20 policemen in Nassarawa State (Eggon area). This has subsequently heightened the call by citizens for the government to employ decisive measures in the fight against terror in the country. However, I must not fail to state that it is definitely not just about calling on the government to do something about the security situation in the country, it's actually about you and I determining and resolving to have a human heart, to desist from criminality and evil, and to do things right. We Nigerians need to value human lives. By killing these security men, you have not succeeded in killing the Nigeria Police Force, it will still be in existence. You have only succeeded in killing your fellow human beings. We must learn to discourage ourselves, our friends, colleagues and all those we know from involving in this kind of acts, kidnapping, armed robbery, ritual killings and so on. It's not just about the government, it's about we re-orientating ourselves. Because no matter what the government does, if the people refuse to turn a new leaf and have a change of heart, the killings would still continue. A word is enough for the wise. Thank you |

New Aviation Policy: private jet is no kabu-kabu. The Presidency has reacted to criticisms that trailed the recently-unveiled aviation policy, especially the one that says owners of private jets can only carry members of their families aboard such planes. Speaking through the Special Adviser on Media & Publicity to the President, Dr. Reuben Abati, in apparent response to the position of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, which described the policy as another hallmark of emerging despotism, noted that the ACN was merely engaging in its usual mischief, adding that the aviation ministry would respond appropriately. According to Abati, “private jet was no kabu-kabu and should be used strictly for its purpose. The policy the statement by the ACN appears to be referring to deals essentially with the fact that in the aviation sector, the authorities are insisting on international best practices. “In this regards, what is this international best practice all about? One, that if you own a private jet, it must strictly be a private jet. The second point is that the government has not said you cannot carry anybody you like in your aircraft. That is not what the policy says. This is clearly a case of misrepresentation. “What the policy says is that whoever you carry in your private jet, you must submit a manifest, you must declare a manifest. It is important to note that you cannot say because it is your private jet, you will carry people in it and you will not declare a manifest. It is standard international practice that for air travel, a manifest must be made available. “The third point has to do with insurance. Why all of this is important is that when you engage in air travel and you give people a ride or you are using it for private purposes, there must also be insurance. The aircraft itself must be insured and there must also be insurance for the people who are travelling. You cannot violate and say it is a private jet. Rules are rules.” http://www.informationng.com/2013/05/new-aviation-policy-private-jet-is-no-kabu-kabu-says-presidency-in-reaction-to-criticisms.html |
It's a pity. May God grant their families the fortitude to bear their loss and may their souls rest in peace. I believe the Ministry of Defence and the JTF would thoroughly investigate this crash and give us their findings. Some fingers are already pointing at two key boko haram members. This is definitely not going to be swept under the carpet. Whoever has hand in this would not go unpunished. |
T-smooth:Lol for your mind! You fit?We can't survive without water, all living things need water to survive, be they animals or plants. As human beings, we don't just need any water, we need portable drinking water. And it's a good development that the fedearl government is working towards making portable drinking water accessible to all Nigerians. |
Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku has accused media houses of serving as puppets to politicians in Nigeria. Speaking as a guest on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television, Maku said “Unfortunately we have allowed our political biases to infiltrate sometimes the media that we own”. Maku who claimed to be a journalist further said “if you pick newspapers today, from the headlines you will know which one is pro-PDP, which one is ACN, which one is APC, which one is CPC” He expressed worry over the bias displayed “not just on opinion pages, not just on editorial pages but right on front page including the casting of headlines”. The minister likened the reporter to a doctor in the hospital who should not be told how to treat his patients be it owned by a politician or a businessman. He charged Nigerians to set up an international panel to review media houses in other countries such as the England, USA, Canada, India, and South Africa with Nigeria quarterly. These countries he said have “the traditions of our own liberal democracy”. He said many journalists will be in jail if journalism is practiced the same way as in the aforementioned countries. He also cleared the air on the controversy between the Leadership Newspaper journalists and the federal government. It's good the man has been released. But what was the reason for his abduction in the first place? We've not been told. Just as Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala's mum did, Ali Monguno should tell us what transpired between him and his kidnappers, what they told him, where they took him to and what led to his release. |
Hmmmmm, got me thinking. |
It's obvious that the voice the boy heard was the voice of the person who wrote the word on the rock and hid himself somewhere jsut to play some mischevious pranks. . |
WIZGUY69: And how do you expect to pass JAMB with this your English? You don't even know your tenses. |
Those of them who believed that the President bought the jet for him cannot be serious at all. What has Goodluck Jonathan got to do with buying someone a jet? People have just decided to blame GEJ for everyting, even when they cook and the food gets burnt, GEJ is blamed. |

for your mind! You fit?
