Alamieyeseigha was deposed, hounded, tried and jailed. And it has beome obvious that he is remorseful and has been actively involved in restoring peace and tranquility in the Niger-Delat region. So, if the entire National Council of State decides to grant him state pardon, GEJ alone may not be able to stop it.

PoliticsWas Alamieyeseigha Pardoned By The National Council Of State Or By Mr President? by BeraBera(op): 1:32pm On Mar 13, 2013
I've observed with dismay the reactions of some Nigerians towards the state pardon granted by the National Council of State to some Nigetians who have erred in the past in various degrees. These include:
-Former Chief of Staff Supremem Military Concil, and brother of the late President, Major General Shehu Musa Yar'adua,
-ex-Major Bello Magaji NA/6604,
-Mohammed Lima Biu,
-Shettima Bulama,
-Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha,
-Major Geeneral Abdulkareem Adisa (Post Humous) and
-Major Segun Fadipe.

While some have tagged it a "federal government pardon", others seem to have viewed the development as a 2015 presidential campaign move by the president.

Well, all these stem from either a misinformation or a figment of imaginations.

The fact remains that The National Council of State, which granted the state pardon, is made up of all living former Presidents, Serving President, Vice President, State Governors, all living former Chief Justices of Nigeria (CJN), Senate President and Speaker of the House. The decision to grant pardon to these offenders was taken by the entire body, both those present at the meeting and those absent, as the decision of the body is binding on all the members.

Whether present or absent at the meeting, for the mere fact that one is a member of the National Council of State by virtue of his or her past/ present position in Nigeria, the state pardon was approved and granted by him/her.

Therefore, Alamieyeseigha and co were all pardoned by Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Namadi Sambo, David Mark, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Adams Oshiomole, Babatunde Raji Fashola, Rochas Okorocha, etc. etc. etc. and not only Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

I think we should endeavour to be getting our facts clear and stop being sentimental.

FG Not Relenting On Curbing Security Challenges – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has assured the international community that his administration will continue to do everything possible to enhance the security of lives and investments in Nigeria.

Speaking at an audience with a 45-member trade delegation from the United States of America, President Jonathan reaffirmed that the Federal Government was working very hard to overcome Nigeria’s current security challenges, saying that an intensive effort was underway to curb terrorism and other criminal acts such as kidnapping and hostage taking.

The President also assured the delegation which was led by the President and CEO of the Corporate Council on Africa, Steve Hayes and the Executive Vice President of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, Mimi Alemayehou that his Administration will continue to empower the private sector to serve as the main drivers of the Federal Government’s agenda for national economic growth and development.

President Jonathan told company executives on the delegation with interests in aviation, power, food processing, ICT, construction, housing, textiles, infrastructure and finance that they could be very confident of the safety of their present and future investments in Nigeria as the country already had one of the most liberal legal regimes for the movement of capital and profits.

The co-leader of the delegation, Mr. Hayes thanked President Jonathan for his efforts to promote greater trade and economic cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.

He assured President Jonathan that the Corporate Council on Africa and its members fully recognized Nigeria’s immense economic potentials and will do their best to support his agenda for national transformation.

Terrorism: We’re Doing Our Best, Jonathan Tells International Community

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday assured the international community that his administration is putting intensive effort to curb terrorism and other criminal acts such as kidnapping and hostage taking in the country.

Speaking when he received a 45-member trade delegation from the United States of America in his office, Jonathan reaffirmed that the federal government was working very hard to overcome Nigeria’s current security challenges, adding that government will continue to do everything possible to enhance the security of lives and investments in Nigeria.

The President also assured the that his Administration will continue to empower the private sector to serve as the main drivers of the federal government’s agenda for national economic growth and development.

Jonathan told company executives on the delegation with interests in aviation, power, food processing, ICT, construction, housing, textiles, infrastructure and finance that they could be very confident of the safety of their present and future investments in Nigeria as the country already had one of the most liberal legal regimes for the movement of capital and profits.

He said, “We welcome your interest and commitment to Nigeria. You are coming at a time when sectors previously dominated by government monopolies are being opened up to the private sector because we fully believe that that is the best way forward and the best way to create greater efficiency, employment and economic prosperity.

“You all know Nigeria’s potentials. With its very huge market and the conducive investment climate we are working hard to foster, it is a country where your companies can do very fruitful business and I assure you of the full encouragement and support of the Federal Government for your investments”.

What about the state governors and past presidents present at the meeting? And for those that chose not to attend the meeting, that was a great opportunity for them to have stood their grounds against the state pardon. For the fact that they are members of the council of state, that decision is binding on all of them, whether they attended or not. It wasn't an all-Jonathan affair.

11 children abducted in Ebonyi yet to be seen, residents accuse Police of aiding kidnappers

Several weeks after 11 children, between the ages of five months and two years were abducted in Ishiagu, Ivo local government of Ebonyi State, their whereabouts remain unknown.
The children were reportedly abducted at Ishiagu, home town of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
A reliable source in the community said the trend started December last year with the abduction of four children, adding that only recently six others were abducted, bringing the number to eleven.

DailyPost learnt that all the eleven children abducted are settlers in the community.
Already, the situation has taken another dimension as residents of Ishiagu are accusing the police in the state of complicity in the abduction.
Residents who alleged that policemen in Ishiagu divisional police station were aiding the kidnappers, said efforts they were making to stem the tide were being frustrated by the police in Ishiagu division.

When our correspondent visited the Mile 2 Area in Ishiagu where 2 year old Chiemere Emmanuel and eight month, Chidubem Emmanuel were abducted, their mothers Blessing and Nnenna respectively lamented that since the abduction of their children, nothing had been heard from either the police or from the government.
The youth leader of the community, Mr. Chijioke Njoku, who also spoke to DailyPost alleged that Ebonyi state government and in fact the council chairman of Ivo LGA were not touched by the development because the abducted children were not indigenes of Ishiagu.
He said: “It is no longer news that our children are being kidnapped, even on the 19th and 20th of December, 2012 in Ayaragu children were kidnapped.
On 29th of December, along this Afikpo-Okigwe Road, a woman who was coming back from Ayaragu area with her child was intercepted by gunmen, they pushed her and her child into a car; along the road, they pushed her out and took her child away. Till now the family has not seen the child”.
On the effort of the community, he said: “Two or three weeks ago we intercepted two vehicles- Jetta and Mercedes Benz; the Jetta over ran us while we seized the Mercedes Benz.
“When we stopped the occupants of the car, they even tried to fight us. One of them ran away living the driver of the car.
“The suspect was later handed over to the police, with the warning that they should not toy with the case. Painfully, nothing serious came out of that case”.
Continuing, he said: “We are appealing to the government to help us. Everyday we come to this place to keep night watch in an effort to see whether we can stop this abduction, but the police are not backing us”.
The Ebonyi State Police Public Relation Officer, (PPRO), DSP Sylvester Igbo who was contacted on phone, did not make any comment.

PoliticsFederal Government To Commission 3 Skills Acquisition Centres In Niger Delta by BeraBera(op): 1:31pm On Mar 07, 2013
The Federal Government is set to commission three out of the nine  skills acquisition centres built in each of the nine Niger Delta states. This is following the successful completion of construction work by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, who disclosed this recently, said the commissioning of the three centres in Cross River, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states where youths will be trained in tourism and entertainment, Maritime/ICT  as well as Oil and Gas, is expected to take place in the second quarter of this year.

Elder Orubebe who spoke while addressing selected student union leaders from the nine states of the Niger Delta region said, all was set for the commissioning of the world class skills Centres billed to accommodate no fewer than 500 trainees at a time for public use, hence, putting an alright stoppage to trips abroad.

Hinting that over eighty percent  of the ministry’s budget is diverted to the East-West road,  he further expressed optimism that the flagship project will certainly be completed in December, 2014, adding that seven hundred  and fifty six out  of Seven hundred and eighty two planed culverts have been constructed.

Identifying the lack of commitment to long-standing projects tailored towards achieving purposeful transformation as a critical challenge facing the region’s development, Elder Orubebe said, in spite of paying the inherited N40bn debts owed contractors when it inherited the flagship project in 2010, his ministry has been able to complete seven hundred and fifty six out  of  Seven hundred and eighty two culverts designs and  completed also  the construction of 36 out of planned 42 bridges.

Court Affirms Dickson’s Election

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed the suit filed by one Austin Ogionwo challenging the election of Seriake Dickson as the governor of Bayelsa State.

Delivering judgement on the suit, Justice Adamu Bello held that the plaintiff lacked the locus standi to challenge the outcome of the primary election held on 19 November, 2011 having failed to participate in the said election.

The court also ruled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has the right to conduct primary elections and also field any candidate of its choice for the purpose of any general election.

Justice Adamu added that the mere purchase of an expression of interest form or a nomination form by an aspirant does not make such an aspirant a candidate in an election which he refused to participate in.

The plaintiff,  Mr. Ogionwo had approached the Federal High Court praying the court to nullify the primary election which produced Governor Dickson as the candidate of the PDP in the February 12, 2012 governorship election in Bayelsa State.

Although the counsel to the plaintiff walked out of the court shortly after the judgment, counsel to the PDP and Governor Dickson praised the verdict of the court, saying it is victory for democracy.
