I believe the reforms going on in the aviattion sector are meant to sanitize the sector, which in turn would be for our own good. As for the limit to the number of days foreign registered jets would be allowed to stay in the country, I'm in full support of it. Owners of private jets in the Country should better de-register them and re-register them with Nigeria. Concerning the filling of manifest and declaration of the identities of private jet passengers, I feel it's a welome idea, in view of the current security challenges facing the country. However, the aspect of carrying only family members or employees & board of directors by individual owners or companies respectively is what I don't really feel comfortable with. Will this be realistic? Whichever way it is, I'm made to believe that the National Civil Aviation Policy is for the good of all. Therefore, let us all support the policy and see whether it would yield fruits in the long run. Private jet owners should also please abide by this policy. |
I believe all this is aimed at sanitizing the aviation sector, and it's for our own good in one way or the other |

The Federal Government will continue to sustain efforts to mobilize resources at all levels of government, donor agencies and the private sectors towards ensuring full implementation of the rights to water in the country. The Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Reng Ochekpe disclosed this at a round table meeting with the theme, “The effective implementation of the right to Water – The financing, the roles and responsibilities of the actors”, organized by the French Embassy and French Development Agency in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Water Resources, held in Abuja. The Minister said that the policies and strategies developed at the national level were based on the right to water approach, adding that the right to water and sanitation requires they are available, accessible, safe and affordable for all citizenry without discrimination. The Minister maintained that the rights to water and sanitation further requires an explicit focus on the disadvantaged and marginalized in the society as well as emphasis on participation, empowerment, accountability and transparency. Speaking on UN resolutions on the right to water, Mrs. Ochekpe said, in July 2010, following many years of discussion, 122 countries including Nigeria formally acknowledged the “right to water” at the United Nations General Assembly, resolution A/64/292. Two month later, in September, 2010, UN Human Rights Council adopted a binding resolution recognizing that the human right to water and sanitation are part of the right to an adequate standard of living. In Nigeria, the Minister said that the National Water Supply and Sanitation Policy approved in 2000 even before the UN right to water contained components of right to water, which include, increase service coverage for water and sanitation to meet the socio-economic demand, ensure water quality standards are maintained, ensure affordability of water supply and sanitation service by all citizenry as well as to enhance national capacity in the operation and management of water supply and sanitation. She therefore urged States and Local Governments to adopt this right–based approach in formulating their water policies, law and strategies in order to enhance the human rights to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation. The Minister seized the occasion to clear misconception concerning right to water; she said, “The right does not entitle people to free water but affordable water and sanitation services, the right also does not allow for unlimited use of water but sufficient water for personal and domestic uses in a sustainable manner, the right does not entitle everyone to household connection but the water and sanitation facilities need to be within or in the immediate vicinity of household”. Ochekpe further said that the Ministry was in the process of completing National Water Resources Bill that would provide equitable, beneficial and sustainable development, management and conservation of surface and ground water resources which if passed into law would further strengthen the implementation of right to water in Nigeria. In his remarks, the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Jacques Champagne De Labriolle said that to implement the right to water effectively, it would require strong political will, commitment, clear strategies and financial mobilization from both the State and local levels. He added that it was necessary to address the issue of management and preservation of water resources shared between several countries as part of strategy for implementation of the right to water. The event brought together major stakeholders in the water sectors – representatives of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, regulatory commissions, and regional and national water authorities, research institutes, academia, NGOs and donor agencies. http://fmi.gov.ng/fg-will-mobilize-resources-to-ensure-the-right-to-water-for-all-citizens-says-water-resources-minister/ |
slim fit :Really? How sure are you? You think Jonathan and the SSS have the time to be looking for who to kill, Dino for that matter. I bet you they have better challenges to tackle than to stage assassination. If u think the SSS has any issues with Dino, is it not for them to invite him for questioning, or arrest him? Assassination ko assassination ni. Skoh! |
T-smooth:Did u say "thruth"? There is no other truth truer than the fact that Jesus saves and will alwaya save. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. If God had wanted him dead, He wouldn't have allowed the attack to be while Dino was inside his car. Learn to respect other people's religion so that yours would be respected. I don't know why some of you have this feeling of inferiority rooted deep down in your sub-conscious mind. Haba! |

Nigerian sovereign bonds were added to a $1.7 trillion local-currency emerging-market index by Barclays Plc. (BARC) Ten Nigerian bonds were included in the index on April 1, Jodie Gray, a London-based spokeswoman for Barclays, said by e- mail today. The debt has a weighting of 0.97 percent at yesterday’s close, Gray said. Ten Romanian bonds were also included in the gauge. Barclays said in November it would add the two nations’ debt to the index after reviewing changes in marketplace and polling investors on governance and market accessibility. Eligibility criteria include having a minimum market size equivalent of $5 billion, while each bond must have at least $300 million outstanding and a minimum 12 months to maturity. The addition follows Nigeria’s inclusion to JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s emerging-market bond index series in October. JPMorgan predicted adding the debt of Africa’s biggest oil producer to its indexes would lure $1.5 billion to the West African nation. Yields on Nigeria’s bonds due January 2022 have dropped 193 basis points, or 1.93 percentage point, to 10.91 percent since the end of September, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. That one is his business with the UK authorities. As far as his activities in Nigeria are concerned, he has been pardoned by the National Council of State. If he likes, let him go to UK for jamboree or medical check-up; Na him sabi. |
I am seriously disappointed with the Police. No matter whose jurisdiction it is to protect oil pipelines, they should have put heads together to address the situation at hand, if there was no ulterior motive. It was the ulterior motives they had that lead to the argument over whose job it is to come there. This is because none of the groups would want the other group to be the one to be collecting cuts from oil vandals. Being in charge of the area means being in charge of the bribes from the vandals for them to turn a deaf eye to what they are doing. |
N is for Naughty! |
Amen. But we need more proactive action and less talk. |
This further goes to show the complicity of men of the police in criminal activities. Instead of them to fight crime, they are rather aiding and abetting crime. How then are we going to successfully get rid of saboteurs and vandals with such an attitude? I've said it time without number, the Police force needs a total overhauling. |
Politicizing Amnesty and saying that since Niger Delta militants were granted Amnesty, that BH should also be granted amnesty is totally wrong. There is no basis at all comparing the 2 groups, even their visions are incomparable at all. The Niger Delta boys want control of their resources, while BH wants to force a religion on Nigerians, is it done that way? Now, looking at the scores of lives that have been lost in Boko Haram attacks, it's really really appalling. |
Na wa oh! The lady involved, was she a widow or a single-mother? |
omenka: A country in tatters! Gwekzy: THIS GENERATION IS INDEED A DEATH ON ARRIVAL....IN AS MUCH AS I REFUSE 2 BELIEVE, I WEEP 4 MY DEAR COUNTRYPlease, what has greed and inhumanity which could possible cause incidents like this got to do with the Country? |
All these lie-lie BBM rumors sef. Anyway, be it true or false, our girls need to be careful. As maga is paying and paying and paying, one day, u may pay with your life or future or destiny. We need to be wise |
Bill Clinton pardorned people convicted of bribery charges, tax fraud, bank fraud, obstruction of justice, $1.2m theft, fraud & racketeering. Are these offenses better than Deprieye Alam's own case? In as much as I don't support corruption, corrupt practices, or embezzlement of public funds, I still do not see reasons why the Alam's pardon should generate the level of public outcry it is generating. Most of these social media activists and civil societies organizations are simply crying more than the bereaved. This is because the people of Bayelsa state are not even the ones complaining. Deprieye is one of their own, and they can't possibly condemn a good thing that came the way of their own. By the way, this should not be a reason why some people would now go and embezzle money belonging to their state/ ministries, believing that they would be granted state pardon in the future. That Alams was pardoned today is not a guarantee that every other corrupt person would be pardoned tomorrow. There's an adage that says: If rat follows lizard to play in the rain, it should remember that by the time the lizard's body is dry of the water, his own body would still be dripping wet. |
Can u imagine? So instead of them to go and work hand-in-hand with the SSS who arrested the actual killers and see how they will regain Nigerians' confidence in the police force in this matter, they are still here trying to cover up their ineptitude. Let them keep beating about the bush and keep telling us superstories. |
For me o, ejecting them would not be the best solution as every Nigerian has the constitutional right to reside in any part of the country of their choice. The landlord's and neighbors just need to shine their eyes, watch their movements, watch thier associates and those who visit them, eavesdrop on them. If any suspicious thing is revealed, they would the report the tenant(s) involved to security agents. |
Kidnapping here and there! In the South-South, in the North, in the East and in the West again. When will all this end? We Nigerians need to understand that there are lots of better and legitimate means of making ends meet. Hurting your fellow human being just to make money (from ransom) is wicked and inhuman. We need to start discouraging this act and stop portioning blames. What should matter to us should not be who did it or who did not do it, but rather a call to stop it, a call for attitudinal change and a call for reorientation. Shikenah |
El-Rufai's obvious problem is that he plays politics with everything, hence nobody takes him serious again. He has made a lot of enimies both within and outside Nigeria because of his uneccessary politicking and obvious lack of grasp of the Nigerian situation |
I never knew Mallam El-rufai is a stammerer. The way he was stammering during the interview really baffled me. He dodged some questions. |

One month after the devastating death of singer Goldie Harvey, celebrity TV host and eccentric dresser Denrele Edun has no doubt moved on as he stormed the African Magic Viewers Choice Awards held last weekend at the Eko Hotel and Suites Lagos in mind numbing style. Denrele was on the red carpet with a camera crew chasing and interviewing invited guests and celebrities with close friend Karen Igho never far away. Denrele Edun and Karen Igho even took some up-close-and-personal pictures at the event, with Karen grabbing Denrele and looking really excited. So is she trying to replace Goldie in Denrele's life? |
I really feel for them. How will they get out of their huge debts? Other airlines in operations should better learn from the Aero experience. |
Had it been the media did not report the arrival of the British planes, nor probably linked it to the possibility of them coming to rescue the foreign hostages, this incident might not have happened. Because the Ansarul sect members had earlier warned that any attempt to rescue them would be fatal. |
Alamieyeseigha was pardoned by the members of the National council of state, both those that were present at the meeting yesterday and those that were absent (as long as u are a member of the council of state, the decision of the body is binding on you, whether you were there when the decision was taken or not). Spare Jonathan, all these fake anti-corruption crusaders |
