Rossikk:In trying to disagree with me or offer a different perspective to my view, you end up calling me delusional and slave - just to force your point through. I'll leave that and address your points on the subject matter. --- Zimbabweans wanted their farms back. Fair enough that they now have them. My point was that there should have been better planning to ensure proper knowledge, skills & technology transfer to ensure a smoother transition. Nigeria's Local Content Plan is doing such in the Oil & Gas sector here. Just because you think you can build a plane or can land a man on the moon doesn't mean you can. --- You talk about how Nigerians were largely illiterate in the 60s and how schools have become ubiquitous now in Nigeria. Apparently, you think quantity translates to quality. Nigerian universities, post independence, ranked in the top tier universities in the world. Now, we probably, have only 1 in the top 1000. Even in Africa, our universities struggle to enter top 100. If you think the public primary/secondary schools are better now than the ones run by the missionaries, then I won't have anything to add further. --- You think you are better off today than during the days of British colonization? I'm sure that was the dream of our founding fathers at independence, but I can assure you that you are now under worse colonization - only this time they are your brothers. Your politicians and leaders have done to you worse things than the British did. If slave trade was still popular today, they would do worse than the Europeans. --- You think you have come of age and are no more a slave? Yet (1) Your system of education was given to you (2) Your system of governance (democracy) was given to you (3) Your system of worship was given to you (4) You do not consider your marriage complete untill you engage in the "white" one (5) The phone you are using to type and the Internet you are browsing was developed by who? (6) The cars, television, aeroplanes, trains, watches, clothes, perfumes, etc were developed by who? (7) You have abandoned your local football league to be glued to the European league (8.) Your Foreign Reserves with the CBN is depleting because of your appetite for "oyibo-made" items. (9) You import engineers to build your roads. You yearn for foreign education and you tell me about education. Even Bill Gates who is a university dropout signs certificates that are more honored and could give you a job quicker than your university degree. (10) Go to the American and European embassies and see how much of your brothers & sisters want to run away. How many Africans take dangerous journeys simply because they have a better chance in life as slaves to the west than as slaves to their fellow Africans. (11) I can go on and on to demonstrate to you the context of slavery Africa still goes through. --- This is not a self-defeating mentality but to point out how the collective actions and inactions of past African leaders have weakened the African states. We have the worst income, unemployment and poverty rate in the world. Nigerians were better than most south-east Asian countries in the 80s but look at them today. We keep using the likes of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, etc to make examples of development but yet we were better than them 30yrs ago. Even the naira which today changes @ over £400 was stronger than the pound in the 60s. --- My point is that the new wave of African leaders like you and I should stop chest beating but have a solid plan and commitment to ensure that Africa takes its Pride of place in the committee of Nations. |
Zhedoga:Thanks for the compliments. |
Rossikk:That is a very linear way of looking at issues. The fact is that the local farmers did not possess sufficient know how and resources to manage those farms. It's like PMB pursuing all the foreigners operating our oil companies on the alter of a Nigerianization policy. I don't need to tell you how that would turn out. --- Even the schools and hospitals the missionaries left for us decades ago have not improved. Force or Fiat does not guarantee development, structure and planning does. On that front, Mugabe has failed woefully. Zimbabwe economy is the worst in the world with record inflation. Add that to the fact he has no regards for democracy. |
The PPPRA template shows the EOMP of AGO (diesel) as N74.99, yet this same product retails for over N120 - a huge N45 difference. I'm surprised that there is no outrage against this - probably, because the "masses" use less of the product. |
Finally! --- I guess the new trick now is to conjecture and accuse someone falsely. If he doesn't refute the accusation, then he is guilty. --- Never heard of Tolu Ogunlesi till now. I can imagine waking up to find that his detractors just gave him celebrity status overnight. Enjoy your moment of fame bro! |
@ ~N155/$, the figure (N15.97tn) amounts to a dollar equivalent of ~$100b. What a huge drain on our FX Reserves! --- Getting all existing refineries to work at optimal production levels is an absolute necessity to reverse this trend. New refineries will help supply the West African sub-region, making Nigeria earn badly needed foreign exchange. |
Delusion! |

naijamark:Easy pal, it's not the international card issuers. When you make a transaction, the card Issuer settles on your behalf. But then, your bank has to settle the card Issuer eventually. So your bank charges your Naira account using their own exchange rate and then settle the card Issuer with the FX equivalent. --- If it was MasterCard or Visa, you would see a uniform exchange rate across all Nigerian banks. But rather, what you see are different exchange rates set by the various banks. |
Akdams:Pardon my indiscretion buddy, I meant no ill-will. Can you please indulge my curiosity. I'd like to hear about your offering. |
PreyingMantis:On Information, most people forget that Culture & Tourism are now part of that Ministry. On Agriculture, government will not necessarily be a direct investor but rather invest in improved seedlings/breed and storage. It's more about policy direction and access to low interest funding. |
AMI3:When it sounds too good to be true, then it's probably too good to be true. --- Think about it. If someone had a sure way of making INSANE amount of profits from a venture, he would quietly do so and not let everyone on it. --- Best of luck, son! No hating, just my 2 cents. |
MathsChic:Ok, just needed to be sure you saw it. Please take your time and feel free to reply at your earliest convenience. Regards. |
5starmilitant:That should be Osimehn (the tall lanky striker), not Kelechi (the team captain). |
Teejava:Well, I used "calling for the head" not literally. That would be worse, of course. |
yaki84:So you would rather have the government reduce the bogus budget to N4tn so as to benefit the masses instead of the elites? |
JayJohnson:I would seriously appreciate that. How do I send in my family request? |
MagicBishop:The N1.8tn Capital budget will be used to construct roads, mass housing, power plants, agriculture, etc. I would like to believe that most of those trained artisans will be deployed on those projects. |

PIPsharingan:Excellent result, if you ask me. I am most impressed with your discipline and documented review. I have been following your trades for the entire month, and I think you had a maximum of 2 consecutive loosing trades which translates to a drawdown of around 2% for the month. That is even more phenomenal. If you can keep that up CONSISTENTLY, great things await you! Best Slashing days ahead pal. |
JayJohnson:And how does hauling insults at me do your poor self esteem any good?! |
killerman47:Noted Sir! |
MathsChic:Hey, I sent you an email. I hope you find the time to respond. |
NavierStokes:The budget is fraught with disturbing allocations, but it doesn't preclude the fact most of the funds have been allocated to Capital Projects. --- I will excuse the administration on this budget, since the cabinet had less than 2 months to get it ready. I will draw my conclusions by the 2017 budget. Remember, the APC is operating in Aso Rock for the first time, so one should expect some Inexperience to show. |
NavierStokes:That only validates my earlier position. They are criticizing the President’s foreign currency & import policy. |
grandstar:I would beg to disagree that the expansionary budget is "wrongly praised". It is exactly what is needed to invest in infrastructure and other parts of the economy with a view to diversifying government revenue. How else do you want government to plan for future revenue in the face of falling oil prices. --- But, yes, the administration FX Policy is so out of sync with economic realities. Extremely poor from Emefiele & PMB. |
Poor title of article. The Economist did not accuse PMB of worsening Nigeria's economy. They merely criticized the administration's FX and Imports Policy. --- They spoke glowingly about his efforts to plug leakages to shore up government revenue. They also credited the expansionary budget aimed at infrastructural development and diversification of government revenue. |
The Economist is a highly reputable & internationally read newspaper. They shouldn't be using their platform to address the President of a sovereign nation with such denigrating words. We can excuse petty blogs if they do so, but not the likes of CNN, VOA, The Economist, etc. --- I detest the former president for how he managed the economy, but those words by a foreign newspaper is way out of line. --- I am seriously gutted with the Economist. I would cancel my subscription with them immediately if I still had one running. |
Teejava:Calling for the head of the president is not the same as denigrating the person of the president. |
There you have it. Treat your dad/child/wife/etc the way you want others to treat them. --- We abuse GEJ and PMB without realizing that we are inadvertently desecrating the seat of The President, Federal Republic of Nigeria. Other Nationals now have the temerity to call a former Nigerian president a Buffoon. Would they address president Obama or Bush like that? Sadly, this despicable tag on GEJ will resonate with a lot of Nigerians who will throng this forum to validate their prejudice, instead of them to call the newspaper to order. It is totally unacceptable for the Economist to address a Nigerian president with those words. --- Irrespective of whatever grudges we may have, I think it's better to focus on criticizing the policies, actions or inactions of the president (GEJ/PMB) rather than hauling insults on their person. |
mrvitalis:Devaluation is not necessarily intended to bring gain to the masses but to prevent further pain. --- A $700 laptop will cost the average person N175k (N250/$) rather than N213k (N305/$). That could be considered a gain in my book. |
