South Africa's Lucas Majozi (1916-1969) was awarded the highest medal received by an African soldier in the Second World War; the DCM (Distinguished Conduct Medal).

With several bullets in his body, Majozi returned to the battlefront time after time into machine gunfire to pull out wounded men during the Second Battle of El Alamein which commenced on October 23, 1942.

Just curious, the guy looking under the truck with a mirror, is he foolish or what? What if the driver of the truck was a suicide bomber and sets off his load once the soldier is within range?
shocked grin grin
That's the nature of the job dude, his not foolish nor stupid ! You're risking your life and the expense of your other comrades and protection of civilians. Let's agree the vehicle is been laiden with bombs and you detect it; two things would happen either the driver gets arrested or he/she detonates the bomb there. Now imagine if the SVBIED gets to the intended target, what arm and harvoc it would cause.

Even you see security men using the same equipment here in some Embassy here in Nigeria, especially in Abuja and some conflicts zone.

PRESS RELEASE

TROOPS DEALT DECISIVE BLOW ON BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS

Troops of Sector 3, Operation LAFIYA DOLE attached to Super Camp Monguno on Friday 30th August 2019 while on patrol dealt a devastating blow on Boko Haram terrorists along Monguno-Mairari-Gajiram axis. The patrol team came in contact with the terrorists and engaged them with heavy volume of fire that neutralized countless number while a few escaped with gun shot wounds going by blood trails in the general area.
The gallant troops also recovered some weapons and equipment from the terrorists.

Sadly, during the encounter 3 of our gallant soldiers paid the supreme price while 8 other soldiers sustained injuries.
The bodies of the fallen heroes and those that sustained injuries have since been evacuated. The wounded are being treated and are in stable condition. The highly motivated troops have continued combing the general area with a view to clear remnants of hiding terrorists.
Just imagine if these guys where in MRAP's, the worst that would have happened is to fight there way through the ambush.
Despite fighting with skinny hilux vehicles; they still manage to inflict injuries on the enemy. Our military authority has to work on our Base defences and proper protection for military vehicles.

3 military vehicles and just one was able to escape? Na wa o.
Until we make MRAP's our standard means of primary transport our troops would not survive such ambush.
Come to think of it; 3 light skinned hilux vehicles been ambushed and out numbered.
With proper protection our troops could fight there way out through such ambush, until then this type of event will continue to happen.

PRESS RELEASE

TROOPS FOIL TERRORISTS IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE AMBUSH PARTY, Neutralized Some At BITTA

Troops of 26 Task Force Brigade under the auspices of Operation HALAKA DODO, Theatre Command Operation LAFIYA DOLE successfully thwarted Terrorists efforts to plant Improvised Explosive Device (IED) for commuters and troops' Main Supply Route. The troops laid an effective night ambush for terrorists in the midst of heavy downpour, encountered the terrorists IED party at Wala crossing point attempting to emplace the lethal device..

Troops responded swiftly in a fire fight with the terrorists killing 2, while others scampered for their dear lives with likely gun shot wounds under the cover of darkness.

The following items were recovered from the criminals:
a. 2 AK 47 riffles
b. 3 magazines
c. 32 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
d. 4 primed IEDs

It would be recalled that earlier in the week, the terrorists suffered heavy losses when they failed in their attack on the headquarters of 26 Task Force Brigade, Bitta when the attackers were overpowered by national forces which caused the death of many terrorists and recovery of some weapons.

Accordingly, the merits of the new concept (super Camp) in the operational arena has already started yielding results with troops becoming more mobile, agile, robust and unpredictable. Hence, troops continue to dominate the Theatre with mobile patrols, ambushes, deliberate attacks and raids thereby denying the terrorists/criminals freedom of action.

Already, Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Commander sector 1, Operation LAFIYA, Brig Gen AK Ibrahim has commended the troops for their efforts and urged them to sustain the tempo to completely stamp out all vestiges of the terrorists in the area of Operation.
