it was an error I was talking about the su 25......(Sukhoi-25
A Russian Sukhoi-25 ground-attack aircraft has been shot down in a rebel-held area in Syria's north-western province of Idlib.

The Russian defence ministry said the pilot had ejected into an area believed to be controlled by the jihadist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham alliance.

Although he survived the crash he was killed in a ground fight, Moscow said.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham - formerly linked to al-Qaeda - said it had shot down the plane.

The Syrian government, backed by Russian air power, launched a major offensive in December against rebel groups in Idlib.)

A-29 is purpose built for close air support in low threat environment. If BHTs had the technology to bring it down, then our MI35m helicopters won't be carrying out sorties in the Northeast because they actually fly slower and certainly lower than the A-29.

The Afghans have been using this same platform against Taliban and ISIS for almost three years yet they haven't lost a single one against enemy fire. And Taliban is surely more deadlier and more sophisticated than BHTs.

USA is also considering fielding same platform.

The Super Tucano has been proven beyond reasonable doubts to be exactly what we currently need. All emotionally-bore criticism is unwarranted and pointless. This is s done deal, if you wail from now till next year nothing would change, so move on.
God bless you for the bold part of your comments.

NAF GRADUATES 513 PERSONNEL IN SUNDRY MILITARY COURSES AT AFIT, AS CAS CHARGES THEM TO BE INNOVATIVE

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has charged newly graduated personnel of various courses at Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna to be innovative and bring the skills acquired during their training to bear in the discharge of their technical duties in support of air operations. The CAS stated this today, 26 July 2019, at the graduation ceremony of 513 personnel of Sundry Military Courses at AFIT. Considering the increasing size, scope of operations and sophistication in the application of technology by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), the CAS, stated that the knowledge gained by the graduands in the past months would be put to the test. “We must see evidence of your training in the discharge of your Service duties and indeed in national development”, Air Marshal Abubakar said.

The CAS, who is the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institution and the Guest of Honour at the event, emphasized that the development of skilled technical manpower for effective and efficient maintenance of NAF platforms has been the core responsibility of AFIT. Air Marshal Abubakar noted that the successful execution of the counterinsurgency operations in the North East and other military operations across the country has remained the focus of his administration since 2015. Therefore, to achieve the successes needed for air operations, the CAS said he adopted capacity building initiatives as the fulcrum of his vision to reposition the NAF into a highly professional and disciplined force that responds efficiently, effectively and in a timely manner to national security challenges. The vision, he said, has been largely driven by huge investments in foreign and local trainings to position NAF personnel for the professional discharge of military duties. He noted, for instance, that 27 student pilots were currently undergoing training in different parts of the world to further boost the number of pilots available for the conduct of air operations.

While expressing his delight at the continuous improvements in the knowledge base of NAF personnel, the CAS disclosed that prior to the commencement of the 2018/2019 course, there was a backlog of personnel due for promotion, but were hindered by the new Terms and Conditions of Service which stipulates that certain courses must be completed before personnel are considered for promotion. To ensure that no one is denied promotion on account of a fault in the system, the CAS said he had directed AFIT to increase its number of trainees from 250 to 500. The decision, he said, had a strain on the finances of the NAF, however, the training of personnel was non-negotiable. He promised to continue to train personnel until a large number of backlog due for training was cleared.

The CAS thanked the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his unfailing support to the NAF and belief in the preparedness of the Service to help quell the insurgency in the North East and other restive areas in the country. He noted that the President has not relented in his desire to secure the borders and communities and restore normalcy to the troubled zones. The CAS therefore seized the opportunity to reiterate the loyalty, mission readiness and commitment of the NAF to rapidly deploy men and materials to curtail banditry as well as other forms of criminality across Nigeria. Air Marshal Abubakar equally acknowledged the invaluable support and contributions of all staff, both military and civilian, who have shown uncommon commitment to furthering the lofty ideals of AFIT. The CAS also thanked former Commandants of the Institute and other retired military officers who still contribute to the welfare of AFIT through ideas, books and journals.

Delivering his welcome address, the Commandant AFIT, Air Vice Marshal Cletus Udeagulu, while appreciating the support the Institute has enjoyed in the last 4 years under the current NAF administration, reeled out the achievements of the Institution. These included the upgrade to a degree awarding University, approval of 28 undergraduate and postgraduate courses, increment in Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) 2019 admission quota and establishment of Centre for Technical and Vocation Training which handles all military courses at basic, intermediate and advanced levels. The Commandant, who traced the history of the Institution from its humble beginning to its current enviable status, also stated that the total number of trainees and graduates from AFIT since 2015 to date stood at 2,266. According to him, the CAS has refused to compromise on qualitative training in spite of high cost. “These trainings were carried out at very enormous costs to the NAF. Despite the high cost, the CAS refuses to compromise on education; hence, the consistent support financially and materially to AFIT in order to maintain the high standard of the military courses”, he said. He disclosed that, with the support of the CAS, the Institute had gone back to its tradition of issuing all students of military technical courses with overalls and appropriate toolboxes, which was last done over 3 decades ago. He therefore urged the graduating students to make their alma matter proud by reflecting its new orientation, which is geared towards practical application of technical skills for enhanced service delivery.

Highlights of the graduation ceremony were the conferment of certificates on the graduating students as well as the presentation of awards to the best graduating students in each of the 17 Sundry Courses. However, Flying Officer Elodor Bello and Lance Corporal Kenneth Ejiofor clinched the CAS’ Award for obtaining the highest overall scores among officers and airmen/airwomen, respectively, on the sundry courses. Apart from the awards, the 2 Award Winners were also presented with brand new laptop computers. The CAS also directed that they be included among the NAF Team to attend the 2019 MAKS International Air Show of the Russian Federation scheduled to hold at the end of August.

SLBMS:

Your inability to understand what contested or well defended airspace means proves you are the ignorant one. The Super Tucano is too slow and light skinned to survive enemy fire. This was the exact reason the USAF dropped its earlier plans to acquire A-29s as a low cost measure. The risk to the pilots life was just not worth it.

You keep talking about COIN assets and it appears you never learn from history. If 13 Alpha jets and 8 F-7Ni and a complement of L-39s backed by Mi-35 helicopter gunships cannot prevail agaibst Boko Haram that has no credible air defence capabilities, and deny them the ability to operate with impunity, then we have no business having an Air Force.

Smart bombs like JDAMS and guided munitions are useful against fixed high value targets. You gonna expend munitions that cost $50,000 apiece on Boko Haram fighter or Toyota Hillux truck?

Shoulder fired MANPADS will make mince meat of this aircraft. It's too slow, it's service ceiling is too low to avoid anti-aircraft fire. It has no ejector seats. Missions like this is what helicopter gunships and used for. The have the armour and versatility and is cost effective.

What happens if we find ourselves in a situation in which we are forced to defend our airspace or critical infrastructure against air attack? We start shopping for combat aircraft? $650 million will transform the NAF into a 21st century fighting force. By the time the Tucano arrive Boko Harams complement of SAMS would have increased significantly.

All the countries in the world operating Super Tucano have at least an air force with significant air capability. They have fighter jets in numbers that makes strategic sense the TUCANO is used only for complementary and specialized missions.

Nigeria has no airforce. Ten jet trainers and F-7 does not constitute an airforce. Against a near peer adversary the Nigerian airforce will be wiped out within minutes in a suprise attack on the ground.

If the planes manage to take to the sky they will be shot down with little effort. The Super Tucano doe not constitute an air defence or strike asset. We are not getting the bang for the money spent on that propeller driven aircraft. It's a pointless acquisition and won't even arrive until 2022 or 2025. By that time the Nigerian airforce may have ceased to exist.
Please go read more about the super tucano more. We all know it's slow and light skinned but it comes with an edge: it's FLIR POD and other weapon delivery system. You don't have to get close even with the rockets before you hit your targets, except for dump bomb. In such situation the Alpha jet, jf-17 or FN-7 can under take such missions.

Even if you buy the latest Su & Migs ain't you going to buy missiles/bombs, they are expensive to there western rivals. If we have to drop $5000 munitions on whort of munitions on BHT to stop the fight so be it . We are loosing good soldiers every day, that's the nature of the war we are fighting.

Defending our air space and critical infrastructure against invaders; the jf -17 and FN-7 will take care of that. And if you're doubting the capabilities of the jf17 go ask the Indians. Going by our surrounding neighbours they don't pose such a thread that our airforce capability would not handle.

@SLBMS I understand your plight; will get there grin thank God you testified some African countries have there super tucano and they are acquiring 4th generational fighter jet. We are also towards that part acquiring the tucano and jf17 fighter jet. Let's take it slowly, it's not enough acquiring all these fancy aircraft than making them air worthy and combat ready at all times.

NAF HONOURS AIRMAN WHO RETURNED LOST 37,000 EUROS, GRANTS HIM ACCELERATED PROMOTION TO CORPORAL

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday, 25 July 2019, granted accelerated promotion to Aircraftman Bashir Umar, who found and returned the sum of 37,000 Euros to Alhaji Ahmad, the owner of the lost money at the Hajj Camp Market at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) Kano. This act of integrity drew the attention of the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari, who described it as “uncommon, patriotic and exemplary,” while enjoining Nigerians, especially the youth, to emulate such worthy conduct. With this, the airman, who was promoted 2 steps forward to the rank of Corporal, has not only skipped the rank of Lance Corporal, but has attained a position that would have taken him over 7 years of uninterrupted military service to reach.

Speaking during the decoration ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who also presented the Airman with a letter of commendation, expressed extreme delight to be part of the history-making, exemplary conduct of the Airman. He added that the act duly portrayed the good values which the NAF holds in high esteem and this was why an aircraft was specially detailed to airlift the Airman from Kano to Abuja to attend the decoration and award ceremony. According to him, “the special promotion of Aircraftman Bashir to the rank of Corporal, apart from serving as a reward for good conduct, is also to serve as motivation to other airmen and airwomen to aspire for such elevation. Aircraftman Bashir has earned the rank of Corporal by good conduct and as part of our desire to reward uncommon good deeds and excellence, we have chosen to have him decorated in front of his friends, peers and family”, the CAS added. Air Marshal Abubakar equally commended the Air Officer Commanding Air Training Command (AOC ATC), Commander National Air Defence Corp (NADC), Military Airport Commadant MAKIA as well as the ATC Air Warrant Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) MAKIA for providing the leadership and necessary guidance that had engendered such an admirable act. The CAS, who also used the opportunity to thank the press for their continued support to the NAF over the years, also thanked Aircraftman Bashir’s parents for providing the support and wholesome home environment for the Airman before he joined the Service. “He will continue to need your support, perhaps even more now than ever. I commend you for grooming him with the values that have earned him this accolade”, he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Administration Headquarters NAF, Air Vice Marshal Kingsley Lar, noted that the event was being held in keeping with NAF’s tradition of celebrating personnel that perform exceptionally and display such commendable acts. He noted however that the presence of the CAS, along with Branch Chiefs, Directors and other senior officers, at the ceremony to honour Corporal Bashir was a reflection of the premium the Service places on integrity, as one of its core values. He said it was also a reflection of the enabling environment and positive leadership provided by the CAS. He therefore pledged the commitment of NAF personnel to continue to embody, in words and actions, the values for which the NAF is known.

Corporal Bashir Umar was born on the 1st of June 1995 into the family of Mallam Bashir Abdulmumuni and Salamatu Aliyu in Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa State. He attended Maksha Nursery and Primary School Maiha from 1999 to 2005 where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. After which he proceeded to Tijjani Boloni College of Arabic and Islamic studies from September 2006 to September 2009, he then proceeded to Maiha Government Secondary School where he obtained his Senior Secondary Certificate Examination in 2012. Corporal Bashir Umar is a graduate of Adamawa State Polytechnics Yola, and holds a diploma in Crime Prevention Management and Control which he obtained in 2016. Corporal Bashir Umar, who is a Regiment Airman, was enlisted into the NAF on 1 August 2016 after his Basic Military Training at the Military Training Centre Kaduna. He is currently serving under the NADC as a member of the Mobile Air Defence Team (MADT) at MAKIA Kano.

Look at Bidexi making excuses for the incompetence and corruption of those at the helm if affairs of a nation at war. Just read what this guy is saying? Limited funding? Are you for real? Nigeria just squandered the entire defence budget of Chad and Cameroon combined on 12 Super Tucano, an aircraft that will not survive 10 minutes in contested airspace. The deal in itself shows Nigeria expects to still be at war agaibst Boko Haram by 2022, cos thats when it "might be delivered". This country is a laughing stock. It's approach to security and senseless projects is proof the longevity of this war benefits some people. Army bases are being overrun because there are not enough aircrafts to provide air support. The puny aircrafts we have are stretched to thin and too far out to make any strategic impact. Other country's look at Nigeria and wonder how a rich and powerful nation like Nigeria cannot squash Boko Haram. You cannot blame them. It defies human reasoning.
It will be time wasting arguing with you. You have just proven your high level of ignorance by sitting the super tucano will not last 10 minutes in a contested air and by the way; the super tucano is a COIN asset and the best in its class and what we really need in prosecuting these war.

as for me, I think the NAF should focus more on having fighter jets, AWACs,Air defence and transport. They don't need to start expanding their ground forces, dey need few infantry that will only be in charge of defending Nigeria Air force base and assets. The Nigerian army should be in charge of every land operation and all the fighter helicopter should also be transfered to the Nigerian army.
You want them to focus on acquiring aircrafts with the stipends you call budget. That's why it's taking them years to acquire 3 jf17 jets & helicopters. The federal government should do the needful, the airforce chief and it's administration is on the right part. Tell me when was the last time any airforce chief or military chief has reached the current chief milestone in terms of acquiring hardware.
The last two airforce chief Amosun and Bade squandered money meant for the initial JF17 and MI-17, yet @SLBMS is spitting suit. People like him will hail Amosun when he was the CAS that's his performing.

I don't know which is more tragic in this video, the stomach churning sound track or the video in itself. The war is entering it's 13th year and the Air Chief is busy building his own army whose contribution to the way effort is of little significanIce as the army already has nearly 200,000men and 52,000 reservist. If that is not enough we have 320,000 paramolitary and 25,000 civil defence.

This Air Chief is building his 4th special forces unit and spending millions of dollars on training.

Meanwhile the NAF is on life support. The nation's fleet of strike aircraft consist of 10 Alpha jets and 9 F-7Ni fighters for air defence. Even at that the availability rate is %60, which means at any given time only 5 Alpha jets and 4 F-7Ni fighters can be launched. Until 2022 this is the toy Nigeria depends on to protect her territory.

Meanwhile our Air Chief is busy commissioning one housing project over the other. Well can I blame him? The Air Force is no different than corrupt politicians who secure contracts to build infrastructure and pocket half of it. it's easy to siphoned money meant for grounds infrastructure than from an arms deal. Hundreds of millions of naira is released to fund this senseless projects..of which at least %40 will go into his pocket. He is building three story housing units and slenfkng millions of dollars training hundreds of pilots abroad when we have only 10, aircraft. What are these new qualified pilots going to be flying? Who spends millions of dollars training pilot only to risk losing your investments by strapping them on an aircraft that can be brought down with one well armed bullet and too slow to outrun a missile.

Boko Haram is now a money making enterprise. Take a look at the airforce of smaller weaker and much poorer states in peace time. Many soldiers and airmen are dead because of these selfish criminals we have as service chiefs..

First he commissions the Nigerian Air Force fish pond, then a sewing machine factory, then a tailoring factory, then two well equipped gymnastics, a forensic lab. All costing hundreds of millions or billions of naira, and we celebrate it as good initiatives. No wonder corruption thrives and nobody takes us serious.

The corruption in the Nigerian armed forces is without precedence in human history. We are going into the13th year of war against a non-state actor with no airforce. These people don't want this war to end. They will keep the war open for as long as they can so carry out more sensless capital human capacity development projects or whatever misnomer they choose to call it.

Look at the airforce of Egypt, South Africa, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Morocco, Gabon etc and compare it to the NAF. They are numerically and qualitatively superior.
The Nigerian Air Force is a disgrace. THIRTEEN YEARS !! Nigeria has the least defended airspace in the world.
The sound track are pretty tragic to the ears but they are far better than most of your video sounds track and video composition you've posted here.
On the other hand the NAF is not just building an army but also equally participating in the north east theatre likewise the other troubled northern states. I don't know if it's your ignorance, this is a standard practise in any military be it airforce or navy etc..
You went further displaying your ignorance comparing NAF with Kenya, Uganda, Gabon. Ethiopia and south African airforce equally are on the same level with the NAF, nothing spectacular about their airforce. Dude do some little research before typing jargons, i know people like will come and say Rep of Benin airforce will crush NAF in 3 days undecided
