NIGERIAN AIR FORCE DESTROYS BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS HIDEOUTS NEAR ARRA IN BORNO STATE

The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, between 10 and 18 August 2018, conducted massive day and night attacks against remnants of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) and their facilities. The attacks, which were preceded by days of intensive Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, were planned and executed based on credible intelligence indicating that the BHTs were making moves to regroup around the fringes of Sambisa.

The first air strike was a daytime mission executed on 10 August 2018 at a location 4.5 Km Northwest of Arra around the fringes of Sambisa, where ISR had confirmed that BHTs were regrouping to launch attacks against our troops in the general area. Accordingly, the ATF detailed an Alpha Jet to attack the location. Overhead the area of interest, the Alpha Jet acquired and engaged targets, destroying parts of the settlement and neutralizing several BHTs. Intelligence reports later revealed that some of the surviving BHTs had converged at another location 4.8Km West of Arra. Consequently, the ATF deployed Mi-35M helicopter gunships for a night attack on the new location on 18 August 2018, resulting in the death of dozens of BHTs.

PRESS RELEASE
NIGERIAN AIR FORCE DEGRADES ARMED BANDIT KINGPIN’S HIDEOUTS IN SHAMASHALE, RUGU FOREST IN ZAMFARA STATE

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Air Task Force (ATF) for Operation DIRAN MIKIYA, on 15 and 18 August 2018, successfully degraded several identified hideouts of a notorious armed bandit kingpin. The attacks, which were executed in support of ground troops in Sector 2 of Operation SHARAN DAJI, were planned based on credible intelligence that the kingpin and his group of armed bandits were using an abandoned primary school in SHAMASHALE as well as some makeshift settlements in nearby RUGU Forest in the Eastern part of ZAMFARA State as bases for their operations.

The attack at SHAMASHALE was conducted on 15 August 2018, following further confirmatory Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions that revealed the presence of several armed bandits in the area. Accordingly, the ATF dispatched 2 combat helicopters to attack the location. During the attack, some bandits carrying sophisticated high caliber weapons were seen trying to flee the area. Some were on motorcycles carrying AK-47 rifles and, rather than dropping their weapons and surrendering, attempted to shoot at the helicopters; hence they were neutralized. Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) conducted on 16 August 2018 confirmed that the kingpin’s main hideout had been severely degraded and human intelligence (HUMINT) sources later availed pictures of some of the slain bandits. Items recovered from the armed bandits include 2 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), 2 AK 47 rifles, 100 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 2 mobile phones.

The adjoining settlement camps within RUGU Forest, which had earlier been confirmed by HUMINT sources to be inhabited by only bandits, were attacked on 18 August 2018. A ground attack aircraft and 2 combat helicopters struck the camps in successive waves; first targeting the shelters and then executing follow-on attacks to ensure the threat posed to the local villagers was adequately dealt with.

The ATF will continue to dominate the area through armed reconnaissance and air interdiction missions to completely decimate the armed bandits in order to ensure a return to normalcy in Zamfara and other States in the North West. All persons involved in armed banditry in the area are therefore advised to renounce violence, surrender to security agencies and hand over their weapons.

Stay safe guys.

The Scorpion was one of the first vehicles I was introduced too and drove in. That was donkey years ago.

Things have moved on so much that for most western countries they are classed as obsolete.

However, in that is an advantage.

Three are so many armoured platforms classed as obsolete that can be picked up for literal peanuts and I mean peanuts. In some regards with good diplomacy for nothing as a friendly nation.

That there is no reason we should be driving around in soft skinned pick up trucks, WHAT SO EVER.

Add to that when I look at the cost of a Toyota gun truck and a used APC multiple options and origins. I am BEWILDERED is there no Ingenuity in our procurement and best value. There are armoured platforms that atwe over 25 years old but with barely 5000 miles.

So what are out guys doing looking for DEALShuh ❓huh ❓

You can pick up a BTR 60 for $5k bulk buy they are not great but better than hilux.

I see expensively trained AFSF combatants in the back of a pick up.

It's like after training to be a formala one driver yoi are given a 504 to drive.

So don't get the wrong end of the stick, this is positive constructive criticism.

I have often thought of procuring and donating to units in the NA but discovered from enquiries. That the powers that be were opposed to the idea. I wonder whyhuh ❓huh ❓

Our own war is stretched and the pattern seems different here. Response to bht technical is RPG hit or a direct fire on the position as we don't have money to fire tows. Technicals are deadly. Those useless bokoharam are not scared to die. They just come rushing, shooting everywhere in a stupid manner. You as a soldier, you want to live so your actions must be well calculated.

The only easy way against a technical is to sight them before they sight you.

You’re actually right, they are sticking to their conventional ways of doing things while facing an unconventional enemy, it can’t work, so far the army has been by far the slowest to adapt.

5 years later they are still developing doctrine meanwhile we are meant to e masters of COIN warfare by now undecided haba

NA also seems scared or shy of embracing technology,

Incorporate technology, enhance intel gathering and acquire helos for rapid response, shorten chain of command, all these little things will give NA such a huge boost!
Gospel truth mate.

NA scorpion light tanks in storage, sometimes I wonder if we at really at war in this country, what will it Cost to upgrade these things and put them on the battlefield ?
New/refurbished engines, new gunner/ commander sights for improved accuracy and night fighting capability and swap the guns for 20mm cannons.

Just like that your have an cheap and effective killer to hunt down any BHT technical Troops encounter.

We just aren’t serious in this country, later somehow will say Boko Haram receives satellite intel from foreign countries.
The major problem is that the top brass in the Army are not thinking out of the box, not innovative & creative lipsrsealed Look at the breakthroughs and successes recorded by the NAF.

Saw a thread in front page of a fallen soldier(my name sake for that matter) https://www.nairaland.com/4680380/boko-haram-kills-ugo-uruakpa men!!!!! that photo is too graphic (+40) the way his skull was crushed gon is shocking and I believe the bullet that hit him will come from the nozzles of an AA. Last, last war no good oo, but the good thing is if actually he was hit by AA his brain might not have processed it as to feel the pain(died instantly).
The month of July was really terrible for the Armed forces.
