That reminds me: I made a mistake filling my DS160 by indicating that I will pay for the trip myself. During the process of interview, the vo ask if I will be paying $46,000.

vo: So you are paying $46,000 plus?
me: No, the required fee for one year is $23,000 plus.
vo: Yes, but you are paying for two years.
( Then I remember that I had stated that I am paying for my trip myself while filling the DS-160)
me: Oh. That is why I brought in my sponsor.
vo: what does you sponsor do and how much does he earn per year?
me: I told him.
vo: Okay.
( He tore and gave me the green slip, asking me to pick up after 2 working days).

You never can tell, the guy might have a back up too. Just answering that question ended the interview for me. Several things must have added up and not just one thing. My wife also got her visa approved this week and she is coming in for MPH too. You can check my previous posts (interviews) if it can help but I believe you want to let the vo know that you have a future with the course. Giving the vo an area of specialization is also not a bad idea.
Who sponsored you and your wife.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by bigass(f): 6:23pm On Jun 20, 2013
jimtosam: There are always exceptions but self-sponsored is not a good option ... you are denied based on this. You gat good profile; Coming here for public health (lucrative) , you are doing fine in Nigeria, you also got a good tie to Nigeria..
I'm not young. I am a doctor and had this business as an inheritance. No other person will sponsor me what can I do.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by bigass(f): 5:50pm On Jun 20, 2013
jimtosam: Financial standing .....

Self-sponsor is not encouraged. The VO prefer an account of 5m of someone in Nigeria than account of 15m of someone traveling.. But, you can use your account as support...The are not believing in the balance but believe it's an active account that money will keep coming in and out. Even, the requirement is just to have a balance of your first year tuition. Though, people like to overshoot this to prove they are capable..Why are they asking for just one year tuition when they know you are spending 2/4yrs? Cos they believe money will surely come into the account later. That's why they will ask what your sponsor is doing couple with the statement.

I will advise you wait till January .... The VO belief is that financial standing doesn't change overnight. ..By January, you will support the statement with uncle/father/mother and change your I-20. or can you get a sponsor and change the I-20 now before your school resumes. Though, the best option is to wait.
The guy next to me too was self sponsored and he got his visa approved
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by bigass(f): 4:05pm On Jun 20, 2013
@Ope-Thanks.
I told him I am doctor and that I'm also into business. That the bulk of the money to pay for my tuition will come from my business. He asked me for my salary and Ï Told him.

TravelFlying Dana A Year After Crash by bigass(op): 1:14am On Jun 15, 2013
Let me start by confessing that flying Dana Airline exactly one year after the tragic event of last year wasn’t deliberate. The truth is I didn’t realize I would be flying exactly on the first anniversary of the June 3, 2012 crash at the time I was buying the ticket. I had bought the ticket on Saturday, ahead of a Monday flight, to avoid the usual rush associated with early Monday flights.
I was going to Abuja to attend a panel discussion and formal launch of the Impact of the Internet in Sub Saharan Africa. The report was put together by Dalberg in conjunction with Google Nigeria.
As I was about buying my ticket on that Saturday, my daughter who had accompanied me to the airport pleaded with me not to buy Dana air ticket. She was scared. But I told her Dana would probably be the safest airline to patronize for now, because it must have learnt its lessons in a bitter way. Expectedly, the lady at the Dana counter re- echoed my words and assured my daughter that all would be well.
So I bought the ticket. It was almost half the price of Arik which I considered unnecessarily high. While Dana ticket went for N20, 300, Arik sold its own for almost N39, 000. Arik’s price to me was too high for a journey that is not more than an hour.
Agreed my trip was sponsored by my employer which in every sense is rich enough to afford the cost of any ticket, but the Ijebu blood in me won’t just allow me to spend two times the company’s money on a ticket that can go for half its price. Besides, Arik has not really done anything in the past to leave a lasting positive impression on me.

But when on Sunday I suddenly realized that I was going to fly Dana exactly one year after the crash, fear gripped me. I could still remember where I was last year when news of the crash flittered in. I had gone to the University of Lagos to attend an emergency alumni meeting hurriedly put together by the alumni association following President Goodluck Jonathan’s national broadcast on UNILAG’s renaming to Moshood Abiola University of Lagos. I had just finished interviewing Prof Oye Ibidapo-Obe, a former vice-chancellor of the university, when my friend, Stella, who was also at the meeting, told me of the sad development. We all went cold. And that ended the meeting.

However, the story on June 3, 2013 was different. It was a smooth flight that brought everyone to their destination in peace. The cabin crew was courteous and in-flight refreshment superb. The captain took his time to explain the flight route and encouraged passengers to sit back and enjoy the flight.

This, we did. And it was indeed a pleasant experience. I was so much impressed that I didn’t think twice before flying Dana back to Lagos. But whether whatever was done that day was real or just part of a grand design of a resuscitating airline to woo passengers after the tragic incident of last year, is another issue entirely. Time will tell.

While one would encourage Dana to always strive to adhere strictly to global standard in its operations, airlines in Nigeria should know that they don’t have to spill the blood of their passengers before learning to do the right thing.

Etisalat yesterday saidf all its workers must leave home 1hour early to follow staff bus as from Thursday. Usually buses leave around 5am in some areas. This means buses will now leave 4am and the workers will have to wake up by 3:30 am for a 30k job. Nigeria which way? You don't consider the insecurity around? You expect someone to leave his/her house and come to bus stop before 4am
PoliticsMilitary Should Take Over From Jonathan In 2019 by bigass(op): 9:35am On May 28, 2013
The Nigerian President is a very powerful position and doesn't belong to another tribe. It is very annoying when the northerners act as if it is their fathers right and oppress other tribes. I want Jonathan to Rule to 2019 and then handover to an Igbo military man via a palace coup who then call for a sovereign national conference where all the gray areas of the nation will be ironed out.

Politics58 Year Old Bridge Collapse In Washington State Sends Cars Into River by bigass(op): 5:44am On May 24, 2013
A section of a major interstate highway in Washington state collapsed today, sending an unknown number of cars and people into the rushing waters of the Skagit River north of Seattle, according to police.
The bridge carried both the north- and south-bound lanes of Interstate 5, which runs the length of the U.S. West Coast from Mexico to Canada. State Patrol Trooper Mark Francis said that “people and cars in water” in a Twitter message.
Images on local television station websites showed at least two vehicles in the river, including one with a man sitting atop his vehicle’s roof. There were no reports on the number of people involved or any deaths or injuries.
Rescue efforts by local police are under way, Francis said.
The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board is aware of the I-5 bridge collapse and is “gathering information,” Kelly Nantel, an agency spokeswoman, said in an interview. The NTSB, based in Washington, investigates major transportation accidents in the U.S. and determines their causes.
In August 2007, an interstate highway bridge collapsed in Minneapolis, sending rush-hour traffic into the Mississippi River and killing 13 people and injuring 145 -- the worst such event in 25 years. The NTSB inquiry into the collapse found that steel plates used to connect the 40-year-old structure’s beams were too thin, causing it to fail.
The bridge over the Skagit River was built in 1955 and is considered functionally obsolete, according to the National Bridge Inventory Database.
