I presume you bought from the floor and in this case, yes you qualify for the Dividend.

if the abnormal happens like it did in the case of Oceanic
that is exactly my point, the whole premise of your argument hinges on the big "IF". Did you ever look at the other side of the coin - which is at the crux of the Benard Baruch quote.

@ Shigidi, I figured that next year’s price into the equation, supposing that after doing one or two trades, I came right back and picked up oceanic at the same N28 which I sold it? (Oceanic was selling for 28plus last week)
this is on the assumption that the price of Oceanic will remain static whilst other prices appreciate? Sounds like wishful thinking or pipe dream at best. Remember the quote "I have never met anyone who could predict the future trend of the market - except liars!!! Bernard Baruch"

but bank stocks now ? with the guardian newspaper publication of wed. 19th dec 2007 as forwarded by cashcraft. Look at cashcrafts website for further reading.
The more i read this article on the Guardian the more I get worried about this spate of capitalisation and recapitalisation, PO upon PO of banks. I strongly suspect round-tripping and you know what follows if this is the case. If in doubt check the case of the energy companies Enron, CMS Energy, Reliant Energy, and Dynegy in the US. If founded, then be afriad, be very very afraid.

given the dec season, not surprising at all. If its UBA which I believe u use, they prob already have purchased some gradually, but prob havent got all 20k units just yet in which case u wouldnt be able to cancel the whole thing.

@invisible, u'll be surprised just how many people read this board, don't be surprised if it moves up grin
Yes oooo, I use UBAS, as of yesterday I asked my relationship officer for an update and all she said "I'll let you know when its done". Am I not supposed to know what proportion (if any) has been bought. I am just worried that I might end up not getting it and at the same time miss out on other good entry prices.

@All

Do you know why it is taking my broker more than 5 trading days (and counting) to get 20K units of Bank PHB from the floor. Is it to be expected or are they being lax about it?

Is it better to cancel this mandate and substitute it with FCMB (or any other stock?)?

Replies please

Don't do IPO/PO's. Use it for trade alert.
Also have you ever received an E-BONUS advice.
Its clearly written there (ALPHANUMERIC).
In addition have you viewed your portfolio online by logging into CSCS?.
You can only do so by inputing your clearing house number (ALPHANUMERIC).
The two words are just used interchangeably. Some call the clearing house number the "CSCS account number".
The clearing house number is the important number.
IF IN DOUBT,CALL YOUR BROKER ON FRIDAY MORNING.no go put wrong number for IPO form oh,na me go collect your sharesoh.
Na waa ooo, It looks like the CHN / CSCS No are used interchangeably. This text was lifted from an article on CSCS website "Clearing House Number/CSCS NO. (eg. C123567AB)"

@Ololufemi

There is an entire thread dedicated to which CSCS number to be filled on PO forms.
I was told the alphanumeric number is the correct one ( by 1st Registrars) and this seems to be the conclusion on the thread.

Happy hunting.

Samstone4 cool cool cool
See reply to this query dealt with in another thread on this forum

tonyjon:
Hi Guys,

I believe the misery surrounding the the difference between CSCS# and CLEARING HOUSE NUMBER (CHN) has now been solved.

I got in touch with CSCS office and I was told that for IPO/PO, the number to use is the numeric one which is known as CSCS# and that the alphanumeric is the Clearing house number.

I was also told that if you use the alphanumeric on IPO/PO application form, your shares will NOT be credited to your account;YOU WILL RECEIVE SHARE CERTIFICATE.

Peace.

at the slightest indication of bad news which they have aplenty from the negative publicity we get daily from the western press.
On another note , talking about negative press, 2 colleagues of mine have had their PC's (at home on diffrent occassions) infected with trojans / spyware which. One had emails sent out to everyone on her contacts database requesting them to send them money because she is being held hostage by someone in Nigeria whom she met online.  The other had his online banking credentials captured and had £1800 swipped from his A/C. this was eventually traced back to Nigeria. Being the only black person in an office of about 15 and a Nigerian for that matter (proudly so) how would that make me feel.

Negative publicity !!!!

Regarding Costain

they have Q1 07 result on NSE website as follows

Turnover (2007/2006) N772.6m / N344.4m
PAT (2007/2006) N116.5m / (N205.0m)

for Q2 07

Turnover (2007/2006) - 1.497B/1.457B
PAT (2007/2006) - 0.130B/0.676B

which means that PAT increased by N13.5m only. My concern is
it still leaves them with N384m (~75%) to make up the forecast of N514m by the end of their year.

Did anything dramatic happen that would have affected their bottom line between Q3 and Q4?

Does not look good in the short term

More insights please

Have we abandoned COSTAIN and AIICO?
I have searched all areas of the web, done all sorts of searches and power searches with all sorts of permutations and combinations, no hit of AIICO offer. Is this really happening? If it is, then it must be a gold mine which might explain why it is being kept down low

@Windywendy, Wanaj0, Pumping777, easimoni, Roughcut and all members of the house.

Please have a look at the attached chart, Have I got the averages right? if yes what does the mixture of signals suggest?

In arriving at BUY/SELL decision, I have used the prevailing condition that "When the shorter moving average (the one calculated from the lowest number of intervals) moves above the longer moving average a buy signal is generated and when the short moving average moves below the longer moving average a sell signal is generated." from www.trademade.com

A quick question, why is there not much enthusiasm about the Afribank PO. Is it that bad?
