When TRANSCORP enters full bid all the naysayers should cover their faces in shame.

This is not a buy recommendation... DD applies always

Don't get me wrong, i would appreciate a stellar run in Transcorp. I am also mindful that back in the day any security with 'oil' (or associated with oil) in its name had a stellar run.
Capital Oil, AP, Oando etc comes to mind

you really think this forum controls majority of the market? You are better than that na
the bearish nature of the market today is kinda widespread as opposed to a few isolated cases (where one might be inclined to think is caused by a particular group)

Are they divesting from blue continental? (Ghananian cement maker where they hold a 35% equity sttae)

Confirmed

http://www.nse.com.ng/Financial_NewsDocs/32194_LAFARGE_AFRICA_PLC%20NOTICE_OF_DIVESTMENT_IN_CONTINENTA.pdf

I had no inside info. I did a very simple online research yesterday which threw this up as a possible course of action.

The challenge will be the exit.

One can queue for more than 10 days trying to exit when free fall start. Look at Japaulgold, Some have tried to exit since 2 days and have been trapped. Every day that passes, its 10% drop. Thank God for NSE to cap this. If it were the US exchange, 90% loss can happen in a day to avoid all the traps

when I said the exit will turn to stampede, some people thought I was hating.
at the time there were still a few bid.

School fees will always be paid

If you understand the deal involved, you will look for your own cake. Do you expect the price of Transcorp to go down like before again? Going forward, Transcorp at #5 is still a bergain.Unless they want to fool or scam us.

based on what exactly?

They are in partnership in this deal.

Heirs Holdings (“HH”), the leading African strategic investor, in partnership with
affiliated company Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (“Transcorp”), Nigeria’s
largest publicly listed conglomerate, announced today the unconditional acquisition of
a 45% participating interest in Nigerian oil licence OML 17 and related assets, through
TNOG Oil and Gas Limited (a related company of Heirs Holdings and Transcorp), from
the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, Total E&P Nigeria
Limited and ENI. In addition, TNOG Oil and Gas Limited will have sole operatorship of
the asset.

On paper, yes!

YE '21 results will tell us how much benefit accrues to Transcorp from this.

Yes the part in bold can't be farther from the truth.
On the surface, aside TRANSCORP, UBA and UCAP are among the big winners of the deal.
No doubt, it's a plus for TRANSCORP. ...but then again, it's important to not get too carried away.

If the 3 aforementioned coys were women, I'll make the 1st my concubine, but marry the last 2... with the middle entity as my 1st wife. ...well, for now.
That said, I'd still negotiate with the family of the last/3rd entity to get a slightly better bargain on the "bride price". wink cheesy grin

Will look into the part in italics given the concerns raised.

The O&G assets were bought by HH and not Transcorp! The only link (I believe) is that HH is the major investor in Transcorp.

I stand corrected!

Doc, this news fit push Transcorp to IPO price. Let's watch and see.
NB: I don't have Transcorp in my portfolio and no money to buy on Monday

You must not be carried away by all the news sorrounding Transcorp. You must also factor in NCI. Transcorp may just be a vehicle used by HH.

What do i know? Am just not getting carried away.

I also have truck loads of Transcorp at an average of #1.78

Those that were in the market post banks consolidation will understand what is happening currently in the market.

The stocks that were dead beyond resurrection received lives and jumped of the grave, but when the Kasala burst, all the fundamentally sound stocks almost entered the grave with them.

This is the time to be extremely careful as some gullible investors will be stuck in some of these dead stocks

It is natural jooo. FOMO at play. When I came in 2007, I remember oga Wanaj0's warning. I ignored it be cause I had the capital and didn't want to miss out.

My warning to new entrants - it is better to play fundamentally solid, dividend paying stock at current prices than to attempt a swim with the sharks. Ask questions 1st before shooting.

I don't know why I hate those stocks.

Because some went down like a pack of cards and stayed down.

Online trade is the real deal now....Analog brokers almost frustrated me out of this business

Surprised you didn't add UCAP to your catalog...knew when we were buying them at 90k then, still pick some units at N2 two years ago...

Your analysis then on Dangflour was the bump shell....riding it from N3 to N24 was so sweet

NSE has been a blessing to those that never given up despite the challenges we see sometimes

I have about 40 stock in my portfolio (about 10 are dead, a few will turn +ve this season)
Like I wrote... amongst others (so can't list all)
UCAP is currently amongst the top performers. Been in since 90k. Holding at an average of #1.2

A couple are being held for free when you factor in dividends.

So an approach one may take is this
Let naija money stay in naija
For you to invest here you must visit at times so manage the money you send here in such a way that it provides yearly funds for any naija activity

See it this way if you are living in naija and not traveling, you wouldn’t change your funds to foreign currency because of fear of inflation or devaluation so see naija funds as money that will remain in naija for the long term 20-30 years if possible.

Have separate annual targets for the funds in different countries
Like you can try 15-50% profit annually for naija
Pls note that for places like the states 10% returns is a great result

As your naija funds grows and you keep researching and investing you will learn more and know how to manage it better

I believe as long as naija funds remains in naija then it’s nit really a loss. You may convert profits
The gain in taxes also matters as you pay far less taxes in naija than abroad

After about 3-5 years you may compare results of the different indexes you are in and see if it’s actually worth it undecided

Note this approach requires vigilance
You must know what’s going on in the different markets you are playing
If you can work with others in the markets so you have financial herd immunity for financial covid grin grin

I hear you

NSE has been generally good. The likes of UBA (picked a lot at 2.97), ZB, flourmills, Nascon, AIICO, Dangflour, Dangsugar NEM (currently at an average of 28k/share) amongst others have more than outperformed any inflation or exchange rate differential you can think of.

The major mistake of 2008 was shooting first and asking questions later (compounded by the criminal elements in NSE in cahoot with sleepy regulators). It was also not helped by the cheap money available in this clime especially post credit crisis of 2007 (0% 3 year deals etc).

It has been generally good, but as an Igbo man that does not like loosing a penny grin grin, I believe I sometimes overemphasise the losses than the gains.

Dear all, happy New year and thanks for all your contributions. I have been following this thread since November last year, decided to follow the advise of gurus in the house not to invest but wait for first quarter. I would need your advice on what store is to invest in. I also got my fingers burnt in the 2008 meltdown. Would like to try the NSE again .I am aiming for short and medium term investment. Thanks

Do not come back with what you cannot afford to lose!
It is better to buy a dividend paying fundamental stock at current levels so that even if goes pear shaped you can still get some cash flow from the investment. The like of ZB/GT et al comes to mind.

They haven't even raised up to #1Billion yet. From the report I read, they will need to raise $70 million within 12months which I think started from December last year. I still see more upside. Not a buy recommendation.

I believe they are pumping up the price preparatory to a public/private offering. otherwise where is the money gonna come from?
I have been wrong severally, I may also be wrong this time around
