debosky: Shattap! I guess you missed the last line that we could easily challenge for the league.
Bloody Arrow - I hope we meet you in the CL again and RVP scores a wonder goal and knocks your dumb asses out again.
Now quit being a Viewer and go celebrate defeating shamrock with your demented fellow club supporters. Medicine after death. The old man was just trying to cover his tracks. His first statement said it all when he said Liverpool and Chelsea were their competitors for the title You really dont want to meet us in the CL. This is not 2006 when we had an inexperienced temp coach, you were playing -ve football and still had henry. If we meet dis time around, na thorough thrashing home and away Rather you should try to enjoy ur stay in the CL dis year as it may be your last for a while There is nothing to celebrate about beating shamrock. most of the team are still on vacation and this is the first match of the coach in charge. Even if he were to beat shamrock 30-0, it is no big deal. It was just a good showing by two of the new recruitment and even the dutchies tried to give reasons not to be sold. |

Man City not a threat - Ferguson Ferguson believes Manchester City will struggle to challenge United this season Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed local rivals Manchester City as a major threat to Manchester United's Premier League title this season. City manager Mark Hughes has this summer spent millions on building a squad to break into the top four. But United boss Ferguson said: "It won't be easy for them to win anything, even with the players they have bought. "I can't look at them as our main competitors. Liverpool and Chelsea are our main competitors." Emmanuel Adebayor is City's latest addition to a squad which that includes Gareth Barry, Roque Santa Cruz and former United favourite Carlos Tevez. Striker Adebayor signed from Arsenal for about £25m, midfielder Barry was bought from Aston Villa for £12m and City paid Blackburn about £18m for Paraguay international Santa Cruz. Hughes is keen to bring in Chelsea captain John Terry, while an approach for Joleon Lescott has already been rejected. But Ferguson believes the only place their rivals can challenge his side is in the battle for headlines. Speaking from his side's tour in Malaysia, he added: "We are being challenged for the back pages. "Manchester City are getting all the back page stories and they will hold that position for the rest of the season because there is a lot of interest in what they have done and a lot of speculation about whether it is going to work. "They have bought a lot of high profile players but they have 10 strikers. "That is a hell of a lot. I have not spoken to all the managers but the one or two I have are saying 'Who are they going to leave out?'" "How does he (Hughes) pick a team? We are all interested." City's spending has been second only to Real Madrid this summer - following the high-profile signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Kaka. But Ferguson sees definite differences between the way the money is used at both clubs. "Real Madrid are different to Manchester City," he said. "They have an unusual culture of not really bothering about money because they can use their name to write off debt. No Spanish bank will ever close them down. "Manchester City's culture is about cash. It is about having money and using it." Ferguson also believes Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could find this coming season a struggle, having sold their star striker to City. He said: "Arsenal have the biggest job to do because they have sold Adebayor and don't seem to have the money the rest have got. "How Arsene develops his team will be his biggest test. "The one thing we know about Arsenal is that they will play some of the best football you will see and they will create chances. "They could easily re-establish themselves and challenge for the league again." https://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/46091000/jpg/_46091276_ferguson466.jpg http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/8160068.stmSAF, the Head Obertan himself, fires a broadside volley at Arsenal |

U will say anything to paint your disjointed team in good light. . . . . . Struggling to score goals with so much "superstars" against a team which will only rival a sunday league side in the footy pyramid here, is worrying! I tot u was poking fun at Arsenal for drawing against barnet A goal win against minnows who are way below Barnet in the footy pyramid and ur dentures are out like Bugsy's! Madrid is essentially rebuilding the whole team with a new coach who is seeing the boys in a match for the first time and yet they beat a shamrock rovers who is second in the Irish premiership, enroute to UEFA competition, and are in mid season of their league, as compared to your paralympians who, with a stable team and a stable coach, could could not beat a 17th placed in L2 Barnet side who are also on summer break Shamrock Rovers would wallop that barnet side blue black |

Official: Real Zaragoza Sign Ikechukwu Uche From GetafeNewly promoted Real Zaragoza have continued to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2009-10 Primera Division season, after concluding a deal to sign Ikechukwu Uche from Getafe. A statement on the club's official website read, “Real Zaragoza, Getafe and Uche have arrived at a principle agreement where, pending a medical, the Nigerian striker will spend the next four seasons with the Aragones club.” No official figures of the deal were released but the Spanish press sources claim that the 25-year-old will cost Zaragoza around €5 million, the valuation previously set by El Geta president Angel Torres. The Blanquillos have already snapped up Jermaine Pennant from Liverpool and goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo on loan from Lazio, although they have missed out on Colombian hotshot Radamel Falcao. https://i.media.goal.com/g/27626_news.jpgOur own too dey make moves. @tkb417 Your self confidence (or should I say arrogance) is quite amusing, with the more amusing aspect only being your quickness to try to use 'your job' to add credibility to your posts. I really couldn't care less even if you claimed to be the top Risk Assessment analyst for HSBC The initial debt post was a joke, but your responses were more hilarious. Please feel free to start a thread as regards the topic of ManU's financial health in any section you deem suitable, and as long as you act civil (which I doubt), I will be more than happy to exchange views with you. After that, can one comment on if your earlier utterances were out of fanboism or not (though that you seem to think arabs are clueless when it comes to finance tilts things towards the former) As to my posting on this thread, if you have a problem with it, please notify the mods, but last time I checked, it is a public forum and I am free to post on any thread I want. While you might consider manU to be second only to oxygen as regards your existence, I (unlike you) am not fanatical about my support for Madrid. If you feel bitter about Madrid's recent signings, please take it up with senor perez, but stop throwing childish fits with the self aggrandized importance of a toddler. |

Say that to ur ilk Your self validation is so comical. You are quite convinced of your superior knowledge of the field; typical of someone who thinks he knows what he does not know. Initially I thought it was your fanboism getting the better of your judgment, but apparently its just a pitiable case of semi-illiteracy I would rather not derail this thread into a financial analysis of the ManU vehicles or of sports investment in general, and even so, given your earlier responses, I doubt there is any point to attempting an intellectual exchange with one such as yourself. ManU is swimming in money - happy? You are free to believe anything that makes you sleep better at night. |

@tkb419 An LBO is rarely done in the interest of the entity in question, and one of the pointers to a failing LBO is an inability to service the debt since the acquired assets were usually over priced. The fact that the Glazers are not at direct financial risk makes it more distasteful. Loans themselves are not the issue, as you obviously missed or ignored the part of them not paying up on the interest. If with all the recent success they still cant service the loans, I wonder what they would do if they fall into a lull on the pitch. I feel the EPL should take a firmer stand in the running of things early on, and not come in at the end of the party like they did with the Leeds saga. RuuDie: Real Madrid have revealed the buy-out clauses they have inserted in Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo's contracts, one billion euros! Source? I think relating the buyout clause to the length of contract and salary of the player will go a long way in curbing the high transfer figures, cos you cant sell a player above his buyout clause. |

The benefit I was referring to was as regards changing the time table. Benzema, Kaka and CR9 coming to La liga makes the entire league more attractive, even for the smaller teams. Its up to them to market the opportunity. |

Let's all just enjoy the other long epistles of economic gloom and doom bandied around here not so long ago. It's not a unique problem, The State of California is $20B deficit and printing IOUs. Let's discuss that instead. In the sports section? The mid to bottom clubs in la liga are having financial troubles, which is quite different from the richest club in the EPL being unable to service its debt (or did you miss the part where they couldnt pay their interests?). The glazers shouldnt have been allowed to buy the club with a debt that is now secured against the club. |

Debt in the Beautiful Game - Part 1
Recently Deloitte released their “Football Money League “rankings for 2009, a list the world media have ostentatiously named “The Football Rich List.”. Amidst the rumblings of football’s financial circles it seems the word “debt” was on financiers lips, only for the media to hush it. What the money league does, and does really well, is give a snapshot of the revenues of top clubs. While Deloitte don’t actively play a part in it, certain outlets seem to extend the results of this list to reach a conclusion that simply cannot be drawn from the presented figures. For most, the conclusion seems to be that these clubs, given their revenue rankings, must be stable, well run institutions. The natural extension to this, as they claim, is that the rankings present a picture of the richest clubs in the world. However, a deeper look into club books in dim lit rooms reveals a far grimmer picture.
Given the many complaints of “United would have topped the list had it not been for the weak pound”, let us start with the Red Devils themselves. Figures from financial statements released show that the club have actually posted financial losses. For fiscal year ending June 30th 2007, Manchester United posted gross revenue of £210 million. With operating expenses totaling approximately £203 million, the club’s net operating profit was a paltry £7 million. To put things in perspective, their net profit is about £1 million more than Cristiano Ronaldo’s annual wage. Still, it has to be said, that the club has moved from persistent gross loss to a net profit, even as modest as it is. However, the cause for concern remains when you consider the growing debts highlighted in the club’s books.
Financial liabilities at the club were at £666 million, up £63 million from the £603 million the previous year. This takes the overall amount owed to creditors to a whopping £764 million. As of July 1st, United had £603 million in borrowings. Repayment for the year was at £619. To meet this payment, new borrowings at the club totaled £652 million. Compounding their problems is the fact that Manchester United were only able to pay off £41 million of the £82 million owed in interest for the year.
Not being able to meet interest payments? Now that’s an all too familiar situation these days. What’s more, the club is not as free, as many fans may think, to spend big on players for the future. At the end of the day, the club has incurred far more debt and re-financed their loans. Still, the interest rate Manchester United has received doesn’t do much to assuage their financial health. The players are now under tremendous pressure to literally win everything in sight. Failure to do so could have a cascading effect (early knockouts would mean drop in gate revenue, advertising revenue, etc.)
Financial institutions have taken a large risk loaning to United, and add to that the fact that credit markets have tightened up on cash and you have elements coming together for a perfect storm. While I agree that the very nature of an LBO creates debt, the Glazers have bought the club on the backs of banks, not their own wealth. If ever the situation deteriorates to a point where the Glazers can no longer stomach it, they will just hand control of the club to the banks and bid the red sea at Old Trafford goodbye. At that point, the door will close, and the screams coming from behind will be all that one needs to paint a gruesome picture.
Still, this problem isn’t isolated to just Manchester United. Liverpool, West Ham and to a certain extent, Chelsea also find themselves in somewhat similar situations. While the Premiership is experiencing the tightening of purses all around, Spain’s teams are no different. In fact, the Spanish league in general, is in a far worse condition and closer to the whirlpool than most think.
*All figures used in this article can be found in RED FOOTBALL SHAREHOLDER LIMITED: REPORT AND ACCOUNTS release for year ended June 30th 2007. Source: http://www.snippetsoccer.com/?p=817No wonder they no wan spend the 80M. Awon onigbese !!! Useless bunch of Obertans !!! |
