Correction Ibime is a Chelski fan.

What is your expenditure to income ratio biina?  huh There is only so far you can leverage on income by spending 200m in ONE summer.
No wonder the guy was making such financial blunders. His club hasn't made a profit in recent years and are only afloat at the grand mercy of Mr. Roman.

Net expenditure will depend on the money raised from player sales, which is projected to be $100M+.
After all is said and done, net expenditure would likely be in the region of $150M, which is not much for a club of Real madrid's status and given the marketability of its players.
Because madrid is more or less non-profit, and the relaxed tax laws in spain, Madrid has it much easier than the premiership clubs. Even bayern got their stadium on a platter, while arsenal had to fight tooth and nail for the emirates.

Let's get down to brass tacks - how many of Liverpool's current players have been in EPL teams of the season? Let us use that as a basis of comparison.
Liverpool: Gerrard x6, Torres x2, Glen Johnson x1,  Carragher x1, Hypia x2
Arsenal: Cesc x1, Clichy x1, Sagna x1 (all in 2008)
None of the three could repeat the feat the following season.
So your point was? undecided

I have always known Madrid fans to suffer from sporadic bouts of dementia, but I did not know that their senility was permanent.

Every one knows that Perez's last sepending spree was largely funded by the sale of Madrids training ground to quasi-stakeholders at the City council in a shady backroom deal that valued the training ground at £350m, wayyyyyy more than it was worth. Some of this money was used to clear the debt while the rest was frittered away on galacticos.

Whilst Madrids assets provided a friendly source of income for Perez last experiment, I doubt that Banco Santander would be so kind this time. Perez should be locked up for selling Madrids most prized assets to fund a short-lasting success last time, and should face the death penalty this time for mortgaging Madrids future to Banco Santander all for the sake of Ronaldo and Kaka.
The triumph of fanaticism over common sense  undecided
So the above is your explanation of why Madrid has the highest revenue at $576 million, which is almost twice what your arsenal could manage at $349 million. The success of a business model is less about where you source the funds from but more about how much you can earn from it. Madrid is a far more profitable club than your debt ridden arsenal

Another preposterous statement.

Each season we have a lesser quality squad indeed. With regards to 'naming a premiership XI' less than a year ago, we had Sagna, Clichy, Fabregas, and Adebayor in the EPL 11 of the season - of those players, only ONE has left, and the remaining three have the best years of their careers ahead of them.

Squad quality is a doubtful measure - Apart from United and maybe Chelski, how is Liverpool's squad better than ours? The only difference is a 'settled' and less injury prone team, but I cannot see evidence of a 'better squad' that you carp on about being as widespread as you indicate. What we lack are KEY additions - our squad quality overall is close.
You must be a real fan boy to think your squad is better than liverpools'. Off the top of my head, I wonder which players you have at Arsenal that are better than Torres, Gerrard, Alonso, and Mascherano. Even their goal keeper is way better than yours.

Lets look at the PFA teams of recent years

2009: ManU 5 (-1), Liverpool 2 (+1), Chelsea 1, Arsenal 0
2008: Arsenal 4 (-1) ManU 3, Liverpool  2, Chelsea 0
2007: ManU 8, Liverpool 1, Chelsea 1, Arsenal 0
2006: Chelsea 4, ManU 2, Liverpool 2, Arsenal 0
2005: Chelsea 4 (+1), ManU 2. Arsenal 2 (-2), Liverpool 1

So in the past 5 seasons, Arsenal has had A total of six entries in the PFA team and half of them have left the club. While only one has left ManU and Liverpool and Chelsea have added. When the other clubs can boast of players like Gerrard, Ferndinand, Vidic, Torress, Lampard, Anelka etc who have made the PFA team on multiple occassions, no one in arsenal has made more than one appearnce on the list, and none last year.
I beg get off the fanboism and be realistic about the quality of your squad.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by biina: 6:02pm On Jul 23, 2009
Its funny when people criticize perez's approach to managing madrid when he has pulled it off before, transforming madrid to the richest club in the world ahead of ManU.
Arsenal needed to build a bigger stadium in a bid to increase their revenue and now have debts/value ratio of over 100%. ManU's huge debt were not by choice but rather the effect of the Glazers LBO.
Madrid are not in need of a new stadium, neither are they being acquired via an LBO, so I don't see the 'sensibility' in the argument.

Winning in football is not just about buying players, but buying top players is a big part of it, else why didnt chelsea win the league before the Roman era, and how come the top clubs also have some of the biggest transfer budgets and salary expenditures. The likes of newcastle are exceptions and not the  norm.

Now if you feel the quality in the arsenal squad is up to par with the other teams, you must be delusional. A simple task of naming a premiership XI should put such demons to rest. With each season Arsenal seems to have a lesser quality squad when compared to the opposition. Of course the transfer window is far from over, but unless you are eying a gem in the rough, the good picks will soon be finished.

Not justifying the above quotes but as a follow up on our debate the other time, as much as the debt stays staggering, it is still  within a manageable space.

The debt or whatsoever from the look of things will not affect the performance on the pitch and if thts the case, then expect UTD to always be one of the most profitable sporting brands.

in that case, Banks will always be willing to refinance the loan/the loan can be conveniently repaid.

Just like i told you the other time, there must be clear repayment terms between the sponsor and the banks.

ure on ma page now?
No we are not, as you are looking at the issue from the wrong angle. I was never questioning the current brand appeal of ManU, but rather how it is managed and the susceptibility of the club to financial ruin.

As at today, the situation is still quite salvageable, but given the current direction,  three seasons without trophies and it could  spell the end for the club. Add to it the fact that SAF will retire soon and things could get really bad, really quickly.

Why did the Glazers buy ManU? They didnt buy it cos they were looking for a toy (like Mansour) or cos they are football fans (like Roman). They bought it cos they wanted to make money from it.
So first step was to aggressively acquire the club via an LBO valued at over £828 million with loans of about £556 million (most secured against the club). To ensure smooth operation, they took the club private.

The general idea is simple, you service the loans as much as you can, while recouping their initial investment and getting some profit along with it. But since their priority is to make money, they are willing to let the club take on more debt just to ensure that they get their money out of the system. Evidence of this is that despite high income levels to the club (from success on the pitch), the debt levels are increasing. The worst of the debt is likely the PIK loans which is not serviced at all but rolled over into equity in the club. As at june 2008 the loan was at £699 (25% increase from the initial debt and an increase of £33 million after the refinancing). The required  interest payments are more staggering £68.8 million. All this after record incomes from winning the UCL and premiership resulting in £66 million operating profit for that year.

This is not totally bad, if the club is successful on the pitch, but we all know that football success is cyclic. ManU will likely be in a lull for the next few years and their income, particularly UCL will drop considerably (doubt they will be playing in the UCL finals in the next few years). The Glazers might slow down but will likely not change their plans, and thus manU will continue to taken on increasing debts. At the point that they cannot get more out of united, they will cut their losses and leave.

On the upside, they have money from the sale of Ronaldo and the new sponsorship deal, but those are not enough to stop the hemorrhaging from the debts and can only postpone the evil day. The glazers will be willing to make transfer funds available to SAF as long as it maintains success on the pitch, and there is room to take on more debt. But buying players is close to playing the lottery as almost every big club has had its fair share of failed signings.

As to that banks would keep giving out loans, that is a point in time question. The banks will give them loans if they think that the loans will be serviceable, and that is not difficult given that someone will usually get a huge bonus from such deals. But the problem stems from the unserviced loans which are spiraling and not from a new loan. If the current debt levels become too high, no bank will grant them a loan.

As to an Arab buyout, I doubt it will ever happen to manU or any of the big clubs. Such is reserved for medium clubs like Chelsea, Villa, Everton, Man City and co. Otherwise, where were the money bags when ManU was on the open market or wasn't manU available before Roman went after chelsea? The likes of ManU are too big to be acquired as toys. rather its cheaper to buy and turn around the medium clubs which usually costs less than £200 million

If the Glazer ever do decide to leave, it would be because ManU is no longer a profitable venture, and it will likely spell the end of a great club.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by biina: 4:37pm On Jul 23, 2009
The main reason that arsenal arent spending as much is simply cos they are cash strapped, and the downturn in the economy hasn't helped.
Unfortunately, they need to maintain their UCL spot for a few more years, else they may end up in a financial crisis, but the money bags at City, and to a lesser extent Villa and everton, have a different idea.
I think if they could hold on to that spot for like 5 more years, they would have passed the worst, but now that doesnt look likely.
Unless Arsenal gets funds from some money bag, there are tough times ahead.

AW likely turned down madrid possibly cos it would be like he failed at the project and then ran away. If arsenal had been winning in recent times, I am sure he would have taken the offer.

CareerRe: Should I Quit My Programming Job? (Can't Cope) by biina: 3:08am On Jul 23, 2009
@OP
Firstly, I dont like programming. I feel it is the peak of monkey dey work, baboon dey chop. That being said, if you like programming, feel  free to pursue a career in it. I have several friends who are programmers and are quite successful at it,

On to your problem. You need to be clear on what your priorities are. Your priority is to see to it that your career is developing as you wish (salary, job responsibility etc), while your employers should be left to worry about if your productivity is commensurate with your remuneration. There is no need for you to over criticize yourself, cos believe me, the moment your productivity is below expectation, your employer would let you know. So all your self condemnation is a waste of precious time.

As to the challenges you face with your job, there are two parts to programming: The problem analysis and algorithm development, and the actual translation into code. The latter is the easier of the two IMO, and you would get better the more time you spend with the language. The former part is a bit more challenging as it would depend heavily on how developed your analytical skills  are. Whichever, you can develop both areas with time. Invest time in developing yourself and make friends with those who have the skillsets you desire.

For the short time solution, I would suggest you find yourself, a programming benefactor. Someone outside of your office, who is quite capable in the field, and who you can ask questions and bounce ideas off, possibly willing to act as a private tutor. You should also join a tech forum where you can post questions and requests. You will be amazed at the amount of free help that is available on the internet. Do not be surprised if most of the problems you find challenging have already been solved by others. This will give you time to develop an expertise in the field. Make sure you have internet access both at work and at home. The internet is the best friend to a programmer. Also work on your google-fu. Searching with the right keywords on google could save you several sleepless nights and instead make you look like a wunderkid.

You need to have confidence in your own abilities, while recognizing your shortcomings. Dont let anybody intimidate you with their profiency in programming, as they were all like you at one point in time. Everybody likes to look smart, but the corporate environment is full of ducks on a pond - they look calm on the surface, but are paddling like crazy underneath just to stay afloat. Nobody get two heads, if you put in the effort, you will see the result. Nobody is born a programmer, it is an acquired skill.

So in summary, dont quit.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by biina: 8:43pm On Jul 22, 2009
Household names should be viewed in perspective. The quality of players in the EPL is much higher than those in the Bundesliga.

While Wolfsburg purchases are not world reknown, they were quality players in their own right.
Dzeko was highest goal scorer in the czech league before joining wolfsburg, Josue is an experienced brazil international and was a starter in the squad that won the 2007 copa america, while other players like Misimović, Barzagli, etc are experienced internationals.

By bundesliga standards, the calibre of players that wolfsburg had was good enough to make a title challenge. There squad could only be said to be inferior to Bayern and possibly Bremen (and bremen lacked depth, fielding reserve squads for several bundesliga matches). Wolfsburg won with 69 points, which is the lowest of a bundesliga champion in recent years (as it is usally 70+). So its not that Wolfsburg were far supperior to the rest of the league but that Bayern weren't as dominant as they were in the past when they won with 75+. Similar thing happened when Stuttgart also won with 70 pts. Summary, if bayern is not doing well, a 70pts season from a club would likely win the bundesliga.

The calibre of players at Arsenal while being good enough to win the bundesliga, are not good enough to win the EPL when compared to the oppositions in Chelsea, Liverpool, ManU, and now possibly ManCity. For Arsenal to win, the trio of Chelsea, Liverpool, and ManU,, all need to have below par season. A fact I doubt. The maximum number of points arsenal has manged in the past season is 83pts, and that wont be sufficient to win the league (hasnt been in the past 5yrs). You need a better squad to get that championship.

Dortmund and see how fit he was there.  Mind you, this guy's not much older than Rvp if at all he is.
The point wasn't about whether a player was an household name or not, but rather that wolfsburg didnt win the title simply cos they were better managed or that they were feeding bayern.
In the 2yrs that magath was in charge, Wolfsburg spent a net €60M in the transfer market, which was the highest in the whole bundesliga over that period. They saw players they liked and bought them, and did not sell their key players. Even this summer, after Magaths departure, they have refused to sell their top players like Dzeko. They have been accused of buying the championship on the bill of Volkswagen who finances the club. Wolfsburg has not been feeding bayern as you alleged.

Eduardo Will Be Back For Arsenal In Two Months - Arsene Wenger
Arsenal fans have been hit with more bad news as manager Arsene Wenger revealed to the clubs official website that Eduardo will also miss the start of the new season.
The Brazilian-born Croatian international returned to first team action towards the end of last season following a horror leg break against Birmingham City in February 2008. However, the striker underwent further surgery on the injury in May 2009.
“We’ll have Eduardo back in two months,” Wenger said. “You do not want to lose important players before the season starts.”
Wenger also explained how Samir Nasri sustained his injury.
“Accidentally he nicked the ball away from somebody who was just having a shot on goal,” said the Frenchman. “Unfortunately he got kicked and got a broken fibula. Not a complicated one but it will take six weeks to heal.”
Following the sale of Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City, Arsenal fans will be hoping the injury situation doesn't worsen during the club's ongoing pre-season preparations.

Real Madrid to buy Granero back from Getafe
Spanish giants Real Madrid have decided to buy Esteban Granero back from neighbours Getafe, according to the websites of AS and Marca on Tuesday. Real will pay around four million euros (5.67 million dollars) for the 22 year-old midfielder, who has caught the eye in his two seasons at low-budget Getafe.
Youth product Granero was sold by Real to Getafe for 2.5 million euros in 2007, with Real insisting on a buy-back option, which they will put into action on Wednesday.
The purchase of Granero will take Real's summer spending spree up to around 214 million euros. Their previous signings were Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), Kaka (AC Milan), Karim Benzema (Lyon) and Raul Albiol (Valencia).
Real's priority now is to sell unwanted players. Earlier on Tuesday they announced the sale of midfielder Javi Garcia to Benfica for seven million euros. Unwanted striker Javier Saviola joined Benfica in June.
Klaas Jan Huntelaar is poised to sign for Bundesliga club Vfb Stuttgart. Fellow Dutchmen Rafael Van der Vaart, Rosyston Drenthe and Ruud Van Nistelrooy might also be leaving Madrid soon.

Benfica Sign Javi Garcia From Real Madrid
Benfica have clinched the signing of Javi Garcia from Real Madrid for €7 million after the highly-rated midfielder agreed a five-year deal with the Portuguese outfit.
After asking Cristiano Ronaldo about the club, Los Merengues allowed another youth team product to leave, as he would have few chances in the revamped first team squad at the Bernabeu.
Garcia, 22, was told by coach Manuel Pellegrini that his chances of a regular place in the Madrid side would be limited - and Ronaldo thinks Benfica have made a wise move.
"It is natural that he wanted information, not only about the club but also about the city," the €94 million star told A Bola. "I gave Benfica and Lisbon the best references.
"Javi is a great signing for Benfica. Although I did not have much time together with him, I was able to see what a good player he is and what a pleasant person he is.
"I am sure that he will be able to help Benfica a lot."
Garcia rose through the ranks at Real Madrid and was expected to break into the first-team, but like so many youth products at the Bernabeu he saw his chances limited.
A loan spell at Osasuna in 2007-08 persuaded Madrid to sign him back last summer and he made 15 appearances last term before the club decided to sell him to raise funds this year.
Having represented Spain at Under-17, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, Garcia is expected to step up and play in the defensive midfield role for the national side.

Hopefully he steps up in the coming years and we can buy him back. Next on the list should be huntelaar.

The coach in his past teams has played a 4-2-2-2, possibly

-------------------------Casillas-------------------------

---Ramos------------------------------------Marcelo--
-------------------Lass----------------------------------
------------------------------Gago-----------------------
----------Kaka-----------------------------Ronaldo-----
-----------------------------------------------------------
----------------Higuain----------------------------------

though same could be deployed as a 4-2-3-1

-------------------------Casillas-------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------
----------------Pepe---------------Albiol----------------
---Ramos------------------------------------Marcelo--
-------------------Lass----------------------------------
------------------------------Gago-----------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
-------Higuain---------Kaka--------Ronaldo----------
----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------Benzema-------------------------

All will depend on the players we have when the transfers are completed, as we are still trying to get a CM (Alonso or D'Agostino), a LB, a CB, and possibly an AM (Silva or Ribery).
Right now the priority is to sell some players, as the target squad size is 25 and we currently have 30+ so we need to sell like 7 players.
