All these morons dat are siding the airlines! If NCC did not put the clause in the license they issued to GSM providers 2004 dat they must roll out in other cities within so so time or else the license will be withdrawn...would have GSM services reached una towns and villages faster!!

National interest are sometimes put over company interest! In d case of the airlines matter...its d govt that built those airports they should have a say in how its operated to protect and make those airports running...if the airlines dnt like it they shlould go and build their own airport and land there.

You guys dnt knw the level of politics in protecting national interest dat are involved in BASA negotiation!

They should operate from enugu...beside d minster said she will connect them with local airlines that will take d small percentage of abuja passengers to enugu which cost will be sorted out btw d ministry and the airlines! So what's are d airlines still complaining abouthuh
PoliticsIG Launch 40 Amoured Cars To Replace Road Blocks by billante(op): 11:39am On Aug 30, 2012
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Wednesday, in Abuja, inaugurated 40 “Light Armoured” patrol vehicles for highways across the country.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Abubakar gave the assurance that more of such vehicles would be acquired and deployed to fight crime on highways.
The police boss directed commissioners of police in charge of the states to supervise the usage of the vehicles to ensure that they are used for the purpose they have been provided for.
He urged highway patrol personnel to shun corruption and unethical conducts, and to ensurethat they use firearms strictly in accordance with police rules of engagement.
“This administration will not tolerate any act of disrespect by police officers to any citizen of this country,” Mr. Abubakar said. “Anybody found wanting in the act of bribery and corruption, no matter how little, will be sanctioned.”
The police boss ordered all police officers to “accord maximum respect to the fundamental rights of citizens at all times.”
Mr. Abubakar acknowledged the challenges faced by the police in handling the current security situation in the country, and commended them for their commitment and professionalism. He alsocommended state governments that had donatedcrime fighting equipment to the police and called for more public support to enable the police perform effectively.
A breakdown of the distribution of some of the patrol vehicles to the highways are as follows: Lagos-Ibadan-Ilesha (Centre-Ibadan) has three; Lagos-Ore-Benin (Centre Ore) has two; Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria (Centre Kaduna) has three; Gusau-Sokoto (Centre Gusau) has three; and Onitsha-Owerri (Centre Onitsha) has two.
Damaturu and Suleja towns have one each, while Port Harcourt-Aba-Enugu (Centre Aba) has two.

ekt_bear: If this is the case, then the rep is correct. You shouldn't force someone to fly to Enugu if they believe flying to Abuja is more profitable.
Its like to tell MTN not to go to abeokuta because they feel its not viable! If you put up service there the market will spring up!...in enugu case, d market is already there...and its not like they are denying them viable routes! The three airlines are already operating from lagos and are looking for more slots

They all have: maiduguri, kano and abuja! And pls for the uptent time enugu international airport is very very viable...
TravelRe: Denial Of Licence To Airlines: Oduah Has Sectional Agenda - Rep by billante(m): 7:52pm On Aug 29, 2012
Katsumoto: If it is viable, then why do you need to twist the arms of airlines to fly there?

So the minister should force international airlines to Enugu just because it doesn't have any routes?
Yes if it is necessary for her to do dat she has to! And why are u siding with those airlines that only have the intent of the profit they can fleech from d country to their respective countries to...the minister's intent is for the benefit of the country...east is a part of nigeria for crying out loud...and they have a huge internationl flight demand! Go to MMA and check...
TravelRe: Denial Of Licence To Airlines: Oduah Has Sectional Agenda - Rep by billante(m): 7:35pm On Aug 29, 2012
Katsumoto: There are airports in all parts of Nigeria. Stop being unnecessarily difficult.
Lagos caters for the passengers in the West, PH for those in the East, Kano for the North and Abuja for central Nigeria.

Having the demand to maintain routes from all airports is a different thing entirely.
Dude enugu airport is very viable for international flights! It was made an internation airport to cater for south east! PH caters for south south!...abuja already has international flights landing there while enugu has none...is it not reasonable for new internationl flight slots be moved to the ones dat don't have any flights taking off from!?
Or do you want the facilities FG spent huge sums of tax payers money to provide to lie idle and waste away!!

Desola: which she does but she is able to rebut that claim by saying that Enugu is equally a federal government international airport and in order to boost all aspects of the country's air traffic sector, it is only right to ask these carriers to consider flying to Enugu(although this is a veiled economic duress being exerted by her and geared toward diverting revenue to her side of the country). However, descerning minds can read through this for what it really is.

Jonasatan's government is generally a tribalistic one geared at spiting the Yorubas and Hausas in my candid opinion. The ibos are happy and careless about this because as they see it, the Yorubas and Hausas have been milking the country dry since their failed attempt at secession so they see this as their time to chop and Jonasatan is delivering that.

TravelRe: Aviation-Minister Blocks Foreign Airlines From Abuja by billante(m): 7:23pm On Aug 28, 2012
KenGali: When people want to make senseless criticisim you throw resoning to the dogs.
Airlines and shippers cannot operate just from any location they want, as they do not build the facilities they use. Govt. does. If Govt. Did not build an airport in Lagos and Abuja and ask interested Airlines to use it, there will be no demand in those places today. Enugu is simply getting the same treatment. Because Lagos and Abuja are today developed people want to claim that it is demand. The demand is due to a delibrate Govt action, so it will also apply to Enugu.
You dey mind those senseless people! Calling govt clueless while they are the one dat is clueless!

These are kind of directive that will benefit the country as a whole by spreading development all over the country and solving a lot of social problems and the minister is trying to make d airlines to reason with her! And some people are siding with foreign airlines that don't have the countries interest at heart but only their profits!..if they want to land in abuja they should go and build their own airport
TravelRe: Aviation-Minister Blocks Foreign Airlines From Abuja by billante(m): 7:09pm On Aug 28, 2012
Novice1: Very pedestrian thinking by the minister. I shudder to think of the calibre of policy makers we have in this country. When will they start to see themselves as leaders of a country and not a section? I bet if she has a chance she may want to have an airport in her village and force airlines to land there.

This is exactly the problem with Nigeria. and the Okoro brothers are having orgasms because she wants to force airlines to enugu.

Air traffic is always driven by demand. You can never force reputable foreign airlines to that glorified airfield that looks like a workshop.

Allow the airlines to land where they want, she should feel challenged to expand the capacities of the airports they want to land, and leave that as her legacy after she has stepped down, but banal sentiments are to deep seated to allow her make a rational decision.

O God, provide us with visionary and selfless leaders in Nigeria.
You ended up saying rubbbish!

A-ZeD:
Nothing is wrong but market forces should determine where airlines land in Nigeria not the minister.
And who told you there is no market forces at enugu? And why wld d minister not determine where d airlines fly to! If the ministry didn't provide facilities at abuja will those airlines even have abuja to consider!?

Uk forced arik to fly from gatwick instead of heathrow!
TravelRe: Aviation-Minister Blocks Foreign Airlines From Abuja by billante(m): 4:00pm On Aug 28, 2012
Kobojunkie: a) Not all International Airlines planes land in Lagos.

b) There are international Airports in the East . . . Enugu only happens to be a newly available one. If you did not know this before then please go get updated
There is only one international airport in d east! And dats enugu...ph or calabar which is barely operating international flight is not in d east
TravelRe: Aviation-Minister Blocks Foreign Airlines From Abuja by billante(m): 3:55pm On Aug 28, 2012
Kobojunkie: Corrections to your post

a) The East was never denied an international Airport. Long before the renovation of Enugu started back in 2009, the East had PortHarcourt and Calabar airports.

b) People who fly international SHOULD NOT BE FORCED to have to connect when all they want is a direct flight as is the case with many who fly into airports like Lagos and Abuja still.

c) It is silly to argue that because people, in the past, have flown into Lagos and had to connect to other parts, then it is sensible to now force the Lagos/Abuja fliers fly into Enugu and then connect back to Lagos and Abuja.

d) Enugu does not need to FORCE people from other parts to fly their way in order to boast transports from that location. The Airport can work to at least sell itself to it's own people so they patronize airlines with flights directly to Enugu.
Just read what u typed and see how u are speaking from two sides of ur mouth! How will enugu airport international flights develope when no airline is flying to there!

No body is forcing the airlines not to operate from abuja because they are not even operational from there in d first place! They are looking for a new location! And d minister is advising them where to start their new location from...
TravelRe: Aviation-Minister Blocks Foreign Airlines From Abuja by billante(m): 3:48pm On Aug 28, 2012
KenGali: There is absolutely nothing wrong with people connecting an international airport through a local flight. People in the east have been connecting to Lagos and Abuja ever since they were denied an international airport. Infact, they are a good part of the so called demand in Lagos. Who paid for their flights from Enugu to Lagos? Now that there is an International Airport in the east, others should connect to Enugu, it should benefit from new opportunities of patronization. If you do not want to go through Enugu, you still have a choice of an airline that flies from where ever you want. She has not asked all airlines to move to Enugu. She only asked new applicants to use the new facility instead of congesting existing older ones (avoiding the kind of congestion Apapa Port suffers from today)
Well said!
TravelRe: Aviation-Minister Blocks Foreign Airlines From Abuja by billante(m): 3:41pm On Aug 28, 2012
Kobojunkie: Imagine how insensitive that is, coming from a Government official. So, people should be subjected to two flights or more rather than the direct flight they choose to pay for?? And what of additional costs that will likely be incurred in this exercise? Nigerian people pay too, right?
She is doing her work as a minister of aviation nigeria not minister of aviation lagos or abuja! Its her work to make all airports viable or at least running all year round!!

The federal goverment in their wisdom made enugu airport an international airport! Its d work of d minister to make it viable and dats wat she is doing...the same customers dat will travel to lagos from abuja to board a flight out of d country when their was no direct flight from abuja can also travel to enugu to board their flights....besides there are human beings in d east dat also travel
