Justin Kryzanowski, a 24-year-old man from Pennsylvania, probably regrets where he puts his phone when he’s not using it. The man is being accused of accidentally calling 911 during a drug deal, allowing police to hear the whole ordeal. According to the Scranton Times-Tribune, police heard the deal and then chose to close in after tracing the call back to Justin’s house. Once police arrived at his home, they found all kinds of drugs that could send Kyrzanowski to prison for a very long time. He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He also had just enough weapons on him to justify a much longer prison sentence. So, the moral of the story is to make sure that your phone is on lock when you’re selling dope. Or, maybe a better moral is to never sell dope in the first place. It’s entirely up to you. www.ynaija.com/ticker-tough-luck-man-accidentally-butt-dials-911-during-a-drug-deal/ |
In case you have course to interact with a police officer within the next few weeks, you might as well want to remember to keep it simple, and in plain English! This is because information emerging from the office of the Inspector Generalof Police ( IGP ) has revealed that not less than fifty thousand police officers throughout the country will be swapping places of posting. This new development has definitely not gone down well with most of the police officers as a lot of them are contemplating resigning from the force. The majority of the officers have put family ties forward as a reason for their decisions. The postings, it has been gathered, have become necessary partly because of the security state of the country. And, as a result of the postings many officers, including Northerners, Southerners and Easterners will swapping their areas of responsibility. In particular, some Police officers presently serving in the Southern parts ofthe country including Northern officers from crises states like Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, Bauchi and Gombe, are said to be among those trying everything humanly possible including lobbying to ensure they are not posted. So, Nigerian police officers are not happy right now. A lot of them will be moved out of their comfort zones, where they have “established” themselves well. And, we do not need a soothsayer to know that most of them will not resign. Besides the fact that the officer might stillbe boiling from being transferred, they might not understand your local language; so, keep it formal, pidgin, or simple English. But whatever you do, never you do “pshew” for “MOFO”. Or Else this will be the package u will get

IN an effort to ensure steady supply of electricity nationwide, four months after the declaration of a Gas Supply Emergency Plan, the federal government, Wednesday announced major milestones in the project which has helped power generation to reach an unprecedented 4.2GW even as it comes with a 12 month timeline to address the seeming misalignment in the nation’s gas to power aspirations. Addressing journalists in Abuja, Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison- Madueke noted that the underpinning improvement in gas supply which precipitated the noticeable increase in volume of power generations are aggressive infrastructure expansion and gas supply development initiatives. Since the roll out of the plan, we have achieved major milestones in the expansion of the Escravos-Pipeline System – the major gas supply artery to the power plants. This is part of the most extensive expansion ever undertaken on this pipeline network since it was built 30 years ago,” the Minister stated. She listed the items completed in the critical pipeline segments to include the 27kmX24inch permanent gas supply pipeline from Itoki to Olorunshogo via Ewekoro all in Ogun State, the 56kmX24inch Escravos-Warri gas pipeline – doubling the pipeline capacity and enhancing gas evacuation from Escravos as well as the 130kmX36inch Oben to Geregu pipeline. “The net impact of all these is the addition of 120million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcf/d) to the grid and the permanent elimination of the challenges of low gas pressure that has plagued the Olorunshogo PHCN and NIPP power plants. We are also now well positioned to supply gas to the existing Geregu Power plant and all anticipated future expansions in that axis,’’ Mrs. Alison-Madueke revealed. The Minister explained that in addition to the pipeline projects, major works on the Utorogu and Ughelli gas plants have reached completion. Earlier in the year both plants recorded an all-time low combined output of 300mmcf/d as a result of some maintenance challenges. With the repairs, the combined capacity is now 360mmcf/d which is a net addition of 60mmcf/d. “Specifically, with these interventions, we are now able to supply gas to the full requirements of Egbin, Sapele PHCN, Delta IV, Olorunshogo both PHCN and NIPP plants and Omotosho PHCN power plants. In addition, we are able to meet the requirements of two out of three turbines in Geregu and one out of two turbines in Sapele NIPP,’’ she said. Mrs. Alison-Madueke stated that despite the obvious marked improvement in power generation as a result of the Gas Supply Emergency plan, work continues on the implementation of the plan with further targeted additions. Some of the projected additions include: a further 65mmcf/d within the next 3 to 4 weeks to come from ongoing work at Oredo field which will effectively bridge outstanding gap in supply – enabling supply to all power plants on the Western axis. It is also envisaged that the gross short term additions by September will be 245mmcf/d as opposed to the promised 180mmcf/d in the short term. “In essence, between now and December Nigerians can expect continued growth over the current all-time peak recorded by the Power Ministry. Going forward this trend will continue as we finally address the underpinning challenges of the supply system. I am convinced that we have effectively come out of the deep with the Nigerian power situation and would expect a steady upward climb from here,’’ Mrs. Alison- Madueke affirmed www.vanguardngr.com/2012/08/fg-boosts-gas-supply-to-power-plants-nationwide/ |

Residents across the country are dealing with chronic power outages due to the ongoing strike by PHCN officials. This is despite an announcement from the Ministry of Power, indicating that the power generation in the country had peaked at 4,477.7 Megawatts. Spokesperson for the Minister, Ogbuagu Anikwe, said in a statement: “The good news is that every power generated is wheeled comfortably. In August, 2010, when Nigeria generated for the firsttime 3,800MW, the system collapsed within a few minutes because the transmission infrastructure was poorly maintained.” Despite the increase in power generation, PHCN officials have deliberately turned off the electricity claiming it is their only “weapon” in negotiations against the Federal Government’s privatization plans. Residents across parts of the country have been denied access to electricity for over a week in some cases due to the grievances the electricity workers have with the government. Businessnews spoke to the Service Manager at Iwaya PHCN Service outlet yesterday and he said, “We turned off the electricity because we are on strike.” When asked whether it was fair to drag in hapless citizens into the fight that they are having with the Federal Government. He said, “the residents should take it up with the Federal Government. This is the only weapon we have and we are goingto use it. We have families to feed.” Efforts to get a response from the Ministry of Power concerning the legality and consequences for the PHCN officials sabotaging the power provedabortive. http://businessnews.com.ng/2012/08/15/blackouts-persist-as-power-supply-peaks/?wt=2 |
The continuous violence in the Northern part of Nigeria, carried out by the Jama’atu ahlis sunnah lil da’awati wal wal jihad, otherwise known as BokoHaram, may cease; reports by the Voice of America (VOA), Hausa service, state. The VOA, in a report on Tuesday, quoted one Abu Mohammed, who claims to be the second in command of the sect, saying that negotiations have already commenced with the government, with a view to restoring peace in the northern partof the country. Mr. Mohammed contacted a VOA reporter in Mecca, via the telephone, where he said the sect is ready to stop all attacks during the period of negotiations, as long as the Federal government is“serious and sincere.” The self proclaimed Boko Haram deputy leader said the sect decided to enter into the negotiations with government, based on calls by prominent Northern leaders on the need to restorepeace to the nation. Sources close to the Federal Government also told the news agency that talks had begun with the sect. Sect warns impersonators Mr. Mohammed also warned those he referred to as “politicians and armed robbers” who hide under the name of the sect to perpetrate various crimes. He said the group would focus its attention on “those persons who are giving them bad image.” Mr. Mohammed’s statement on impersonators appears a confirmation of what the Presidency believes. The Presidency, through the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan, Monday, confirmed that there were three categories of the Boko Haram sect: the religious (official Boko Haram), the criminal one, and the political group. One of many Mr. Mohammed’s statement is one of numerous ones stating that negotiations between the sect and the FG have commenced. He is not a known member of the sect, has never issued a statement, nor spoken on behalf of the terrorist group in the past. Though Premium Times could not independently confirm Mr. Mohammed’s membership of the group, or whether negotiations are in existence, sources close to the group told PREMIUM TIMES that the leadership of the sect usually goes to Mecca for the Umrah (lesser hajj) and Hajj activities. “There was even a time that Abubakar Shekau (the sect’s leader) prayed two rows behind the Vice President (Namadi Sambo) in Mecca,” a source, knowledgeable about the group’s activities, stated. Perhaps coincidentally, Mr. Sambo is at present in Mecca for the lesser hajj. While the sect admitted to a first round of talks (which broke down) between the government anda group under the leadership of Datti Ahmad, The National President of the Supreme Council for Sharia’ah in Nigeria; it has consistently denied anyother report of dialogue with the government. In a recent video posted on you tube about a fortnight ago; the sect’s leader, Mr. Shekau, foreclosed any possibility of dialogue with the government. While Ahmed Dasuki, the National Security Adviser, has stepped up efforts to negotiate with the group, the sect has become more daring and vicious in its attacks across Northern states particularly during the ongoing Islamic month of Ramadan. It is therefore, not clear if the present announcement is indeed from the leadership of the Boko Haram. FG to pay PHCH’s Junior staff N8m severance package The least qualified staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria with School Certificate will be paid a minimum of N8million while the highest officer in the organization will receive at least N38million total package in the payment arrangement being organized by the federal government as part of the repositioning of the company. Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji who stated this Monday while addressing state House correspondents after briefing Goodluck Jonathan on the Key performance Indicator KPI described unions in the PHCN as outlaws who are inconsiderate of the various positive steps being taken by Federal Government to address their plight following the privatization of the organization. According to the minister the Federal Government has accepted to pay the aggrieved workers a total of 15 percent as severance package for each employee over a period covering 2003 to 2012. Part of the payment the minister said, will comprise of 7.5 percent employer contribution as specified under the new pension law and another 7.5 percent expected to have been contributed by the workers themselves. He said available records indicated that PHCN has failed to remit its quota of 7.5 percent to the workers pension accounts, adding that Government has however accepted to pay such defaults amounting to 15 percent for each beneficiary against insinuation that the PHCN workers will receive a flat benefit of N85,000. “The talk about some staff going home with N85,000 is from people who have a different mission,” he said. “The PHCN unions are contituting themselves as outlaws,” the minister said. Speaking on the performance of the power sector, Professor Nanji said the National Assembly NASS approved a total of N78.4b to cover other constituency projects adding that of this amount, N21.5billion had been released with N 11.4billion representing 52.5 percent utilized. He said the 2012 budget focused on resucitating the Rural Electricity Agency to make electricity more accessible to Nigerians particularly at the rural areas. “National Integrated Power Projects NIPP projects have been accelerated and will be completed this year. There are 10 NIPP plants across the country. Government is working hard to supply gas to the plantsn” he said. He said the 2013 budget will concentrate on giving full implementation of the electricity reforms and completion of on going projects as well as establishment of gas and power infrstructure bond with increased funding of generating companies. He said power will continue to improve in the country considering the efforts being made by government. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/08/fg-to-pay-phchs-junior-staff-n8m-severance-package/ |

The Federal Government has disclosed that UAC Nigeria Plc, makers of popular snack – Gala Sausage Roll, are in compliance with its policy on cassava flour for bread based products. According to a statement from the Presidency, Gala has a 20% cassava mix. This has resulted in considerable savings in foreign exchange for the company according to the statement. The statement also disclosed other strides the government has made in the agriculture sector. “The government, through the public private partnership (PPP) initiative, has attracted $40 million foreign investment to rice production and milling in Taraba State.” The investment is expected to produce 300,000 metric tonnes of rice or 15% of national rice imports and create 15,000 jobs. “This administration is facilitating the establishment of the largest high quality rice processing mills with an overall installed processing capacity of two million tonnes per annum which will also be the largest installed milling capacity in Africa. It will be private sector driven and established in rice producing states,” itsaid. http://businessnews.com.ng/2012/08/13/cassava-flour-the-stuff-gala-is-made-from/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=cassava-flour-the-stuff-gala-is-made-from |
