Tribalism is enshrine in our constitution, they called it quota system, sometime it referred to as federal character:
Its simply mean you are not guaranteed to get a position in Nigeria, even if you are the best qualified in the entire world.

there is no Nigeria alive that is not a tribalist. Tribalism is the currency that is used to trade position right from the local government area up to the federal level.

No Nigerian has the moral authority to point a finger. We ve all sinned and come short of glory of GOD

THE FINAL KILLER, when i started my Masters, having just left Nigeria ( i met about 8 or 9 other nigerians in my class). In a class of almost 80 people of all nationalities, WE (Nigerians) WERE THE ONLY ONES THAT STARTED THE PROGRAM WITHOUT LAPTOPS. The indians, chinese, japanese, koreans, malaysians etc all came with theirs. It just made me wonder aloud that , are we the only ones that do not have that 'own a laptop' culture?
your case is very sympathetic

Instead of them to concentrate on the main issue , they have started bickering about who head the ministry , they are all yeye people

Orji laments Abia debts
Written by Anayo Okoli
Friday, 03 October 2008
Umuahia—Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has lamented that debt profile of the state is currently depriving the state from benefitting from the excess crude as all the money that is due to the state from the excess crude is being used to serve debts. The debts, which Governor Orji put at $35 million, were incurred from borrowing from other state governement by Abia when the Federal Government exited from the Paris.

Meanwhile, Orji has given assurance that the Local Government Coucil chairmen in the state would not misuse the excess crude funds allocated to them because, according to him, measures have been put in place to check misapplication of the funds.

Orji told journalists in Umuahia that the funds are tied to life-enhancing projects while targets have been set for the council chairmen, warning that any chairman who fails to deliver would have himself to blame.

The Governor also spoke on other issues including the ban placed on okada and plans to boost transportation, erosion menace and the issue of revenue accruing from recovered oil wells belonging to the state.

EFCC now a national institution - FG
03.10.2008

The Federal Government on Thursday said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had grown to “a robust and reputable national institution that now commands the respect and admiration of Nigerians and the international community.”

Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Chief Michael Aondoakaa, said this while declaring open the first management retreat of the EFCC, holding in Lagos.

According to a release by the Head, Media and Strategy of the EFCC, Mr. Femi Babafemi, the minister reviewed the performance of the EFCC since its inception over five years ago and delivered a verdict of excellence on its impact.

“By your hard work, commitment and personal sacrifices to this nation, the commission has grown from a relatively small institution at birth some five years ago, to a robust and reputable national institution,” he quoted Aondoakaa as saying.

Babafemi added in the statement that the minister expressed delight with the improved image of the country abroad and linked it with the “visible and evident” successes being recorded by the EFCC in its anti-corruption war.

“Nigeria’s image has improved greatly. While Nigerians as a whole deserve commendation for this remarkable feat, it is necessary to place on record the contributions of the EFCC towards reversing this trend,” Aondoakaa reportedly said.

Awo, best leader to ever emerge - Nigerians
Idowu Samuel, Abuja - 03.10.2008

THE sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has been named by Nigerians as the greatest leader to ever emerge in the country. In a nationwide survey conducted by the Daar Communications, owners of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM, Chief Awolowo was rated as the Nigerian Leader of All Time.

Awo, who all through his political career fought for the downtrodden with his progressive philosophy, was voted the best among the leaders in Nigeria as he scored 54 points in the poll anchored by four presenters with the organisation.

The votes were taken in the six geopolitical zones of the country. He was chosen based on his egalitarian principles and commitment to socialist ideals which led to his party’s four cardinal programmes of free education, free health services, rural development and provision of basic infrastructure to the people of the entire old Western Region.

Nigerians who voted Awo described his education policy as the best tool for advancement given to the people by any government or leader so far while expressing optimism that his socialist ideals would remain evergreen in the minds of generations yet to come.

They recalled that the great politician, during the period, provided free books, chairs, desks, lockers, benches, chalks, pencils, biro and even food, at no cost to parents, a feat which they said leaders had not been able to equal, let alone surpass.

Interestingly too, the immediate past President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, emerged second with 21 points while Buhari/Idiagbon came third with the same points.

In spite of the widespread condemnation of his government’s policies, especially reforms alleged to have brought hardships to Nigerians, a cross section of Nigerians identified as a leadership quality, Obasanjo’s decision to hand over power to civilians in 1979.

Obasanjo also received good ratings from the participants for courageous establishment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as well as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to wipe out corruption in the land.

Buhari/Idiagbon came third on account of their dogged fight and struggle to instil discipline in Nigerians and within the government. Former Head of State and Chairman, Nigeria Pray, General Yakubu Gowon, came fourth with 16 points while the late General Murtala Muhammed came fifth with 14 points.

Other Nigerians whose leadership qualities were acknowledged in the poll are Dr. Olusola Saraki, General Ibrahim Babangida, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, Professor Dora Akunyili, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, Dr. Ken Nnamani and President Umaru Yar’Adua.

In their brief remarks, the presenters said that the choice of Chief Awolowo was a challenge to Nigerian leaders to perform well and respect their followers.

Niger Delta Ministry: Ijaw should give others a chance – Princewill
By Ibanga Isine, Port Harcourt
Published: Friday, 3 Oct 2008
A member of the Niger Delta Technical Committee, Prince Tonye Princewill, on Thursday advised Ijaw to give other ethnic groups in the region, a chance to produce the minister for the newly created Niger Delta Ministry.

Princewill, who is the son of the Amanayabo of Kalabari and leader of the Action Congress in Rivers State, said appointing an Ijaw to head the ministry would amount to marginalisation of other ethnic groups within the region.

Although it was not deliberate, he said Ijaw had been appointed into key positions at the centre including Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan and Chief Timi Alaibe.

He listed other prominent Ijaw in positions of authority to include Chief Power Adiginighan and Chief Odein Ajumogobia among others.

He said he would not envy anybody who would emerge as minister in the newly created ministry, saying without sincerity of purpose, the Federal Government could use it to frustrate the region.

He said, “As an Ijaw man, I have already sensed an anti-Ijaw sentiment in the whole thing. Being the largest ethnic group in the region, any other ethnic group could take it.

“Although the appointments have been seen by many as one-sided, no one planned it, especially the Ijaw. It happened over time and was not meant to disregard any other group.

“We cannot cry about being oppressed and then turn around, and create the same scenario against others.”

You just don't want to stop making me laff, how can u say OBJ got it through rotation, do u even know the meaning of rotation? rotation means, everyone else will not be allowed to run, it is basically handing it over to the tribe,
OBJ got it through power shift/rotation, during his first term in office only OBJ and Olu falae contested for the presidential election.

The north are now insisting that no matter what happen to Yaradua, they are going to complete their 8 years in office, just like the Yoruba did. Why cant the Ibo too be allowed their own turn. Why did OBJ insert Goodluck into the equation with the aim of denying the Ibos their turn

After Yaradua, it must be the turn of the Ibos

Check the Constitution of Nigeria

1. The President must be Physically and Mentally Fit [Failed]
2. A Qualified Person can contest from anywhere in Nigeria without Geographical or Ethnic Variation [Failed]

Is Nigeria working on a good Constitution?
there is no law in Nigeria, everybody does what he likes.
if you dont like somebody face you can shoot him in the presence of 10 witnesses and get away with it, provided you have money and know the right people.

Every single day in Nigeria the police kill atleast 5 innocent citizen for no good reason.

Forget constitution, it all rubbish. Nigeria is a completely lawless society.

Yes, i do support goodluck to be in power if yar'Adua dies, hope he wont though, but being the VP at present, i blv it will be automatic that he assumes power, however, i am always against that nonesensical statement of rotation of presidency, i think it is ludacris and total dumb thing, how could they rotate presidency, every constituency has their own access to all political parties, so let all run, let all purchase the form, apply to run and allow people of the nation to decides who rules them, and not a tribal base.
Obasanjo got it through rotation, Yaradua got it through rotation, when its the turn of Ibo , everybody is now against rotation. This is unfair.

Bad things happen because good people remain silent.

Sick President can’t lead a dying nation – Tunde Bakare

By Olalekan Adetayo
Published: Thursday, 2 Oct 2008
The General Overseer of The Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, on Wednesday, took a critical look at the country, 48 years after independence and submitted that a sick president could not lead a dying country like Nigeria.

He said that contrary to what the Presidency was making Nigerians to believe, President Umaru Yar‘Adua that he saw on the television set during his nationwide independence broadcast, was sick and needed the prayers of all Nigerians.

Bakare spoke in Lagos at a special service he organised to commemorate the nation‘s 48th independence.

The clergyman said that to move out from the doldrums, the nation needed leadership that had strength, vitality and the mental capacity to turn moments of adversity into opportunity.

He said, “Today, we need leadership that can move the country forward with confidence and common purpose. A smaller and smarter government that can make barbecue, spare ribs, pork chops, sausages and ham from the pig in the poke.

“To do so, we must begin where it matters and proceed with strong determination to make positive and lasting changes for the better in four critical areas, like the four river heads at the Garden of Eden.”

Bakare identified the four areas to include the form of government, economy, education and righteous policies.

He recommended the Constitutional Republic form of government which he described as the best form of human government.

Under this type of government, he said the people ruled through their chosen representatives and those representatives must rule by law.

He said the Constitution that could be appealed to and that all parties sworn to uphold, was the governing document under the republic.

He said that the nation‘s economic pie needed to continue to grow as leaders focused the energy of the youth in farm settlements and agro-allied industries, especially in the National Youth Service Corps year.

He also faulted the exorbitant prices being charged for house rents in the country, saying that a fresh graduate who was asked to pay two years rent for an apartment would steal when he gets a job.

Bakare said that apart from declaring emergency in the energy sector, the crises in the Niger Delta also require a serious attention.

Arguing that God hated injustice and oppression, the clergyman asked the Federal Government to give to the people what rightly belongs to them.

.

“You cannot silence the oppressed: they will rise and God will rise with them,” he said.

On education, he said that the nation should not be satisfied until every Nigerian child had the same chances for a good education that leaders and the well to do in the country wanted for their children.

He said, “A sick church cannot bring healing to a dying world; neither can a seriously sick leader bring progresss to his followers.

Sin, iniquity and unrighteousness thrive in an atmosphere of undue secrecy.

“Let‘s be honest, let‘s be open, let‘s ask God to give us leaders after His own heart so that by the time Nigeria is 50 years old as an independent nation, the trumpet of true jubilee will blow across this land.

“We pray, believe and trust God to restore our wasted years and heal our land and our
