In God we trust Give to Cesar what is Cesar , May be its time this mega rich religious organisations starts paying tax. I wonder how many indigenous companies can acquire N4bn aircraft without blinking an eye. |
Redeemed Church Acquires N4bn Aircraft By Chinedu Eze, 03.10.2009 The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has acquired a new aircraft for N4 billion ($28 million). The aircraft, a Gulfstream 4XP, with number 707EA, arrived Lagos from Bahamas last Sunday. Industry insiders said the Gulfstream 4XP is a transatlantic aircraft that has the capacity of about 15 passengers depending on the configuration. The church acquired the aircraft years after the General Overseer of Living Faith Worldwide, a.k.a. Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, acquired a Challenger aircraft, with number D6640, which was parked a few meters away from Adeboye’s Gulfstream when THISDAY visited the airside of General Aviation Terminal (GAT) yesterday. A pilot told THISDAY that the aircraft and many others privately owned by Nigerians are not registered with Nigerian code “N” because “they usually say that they chattered it for a while whenever they are questioned. You know Bishop Oyedepo of Winners has been operating this aircraft (pointing to the Challenger) for sometime, but it has remained in foreign registration number.” THIDAY also learnt that Oyedepo has ordered for another aircraft bigger than the one acquired by Adeboye. By 2.00 pm yesterday, officials who looked like engineers were seen inspecting the aircraft, which was allowed to rev for hours. Besides buying the aircraft, a lot of money would be spent in maintaining it and paying the crew, in addition to the landing and parking charges. Unlike a commercial aircraft which is always in the air, the private jet will spend more time on the ground and must be checked before taking off. An aeronautical engineer with one of the airlines said besides the mandatory checks, much money would not be spent on its maintenance for now “because it is a new aircraft, but you know that there are rotables which are time-bound parts which are changed regularly. “The same with refitting parts. These are parts that are changed after every 12 or 15 calendar months whether you are flying or not. So, acquiring a private aircraft means that you are ready to be spending money to keep it going.” Expressing surprise on the purchase, a former official of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), who craved anonymity, said with the present global economic recession, it was shocking that anyone, even a business man could spend such money on a private aircraft. He said: “This is unbelievable. You know the amount of poverty in this land, which I know is widespread. How can he acquire such aircraft when he knows that members of his church are suffering? “Look, even the Pope does not have a private jet. I am a Catholic. It is true that Catholic is the richest church in the world in terms of artefacts but the Pope flies Alitalia. How can the Pope tell the church that he wants a private jet?” Since 1999, many Nigerians have acquired private aircraft. http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=137736 |
@ Afaukwu I noticed two of your recent postings, I believe they are a direct reaction to the ongoing discussion. That nice keep up the good work. Afaukwu wrote It is a pity one does not know whom your real person is. Otherwise, this discussion would have been a lot easier to articulate if you know whom you are dealing with. Oh how I hate this virtual media where faceless people come out to claim all sorts. Please do not tribalise the issue, the messanger is not important it is the message that holds the key ônye ji ône n'ala, ji ônwe ya |
As the discussion progress, some Ibo are beginning to see reasons, the initial hysteria seems to give way to self evaluation. Youngies attempt to explain Ibo's domination but his examples of other Nigerians access to Ibo markets is fraught with deceit and blatant hypocrisy youngies wrote Let say for instance that all your insinuations are right, but how you arrived at the bolded part is silly, unintelligent and gross.Fair enough, unlike some of your other slowpoke Massob mafia, you have the decency to admit that I'm right. Youngies wrote Igbo people are not interested in stopping anybody from engaging in trading in any part of Nigeria. What you however fail to understand is that Igbos don't just wake up one morning and open up stalls or shops and start selling. Billymuse, they undergo on-the-site strenuous training in the skills and art of entrepreneurship for a minimum of 7 years! Now you can hardly compete with such a person if you are not equipped yourself. This assertion that Ibo's are dominating simply because they are hardworking, is insulting to millions of honest non-Ibos hardworking Nigerians. As the discussion progresses I am going to prove that the reason the Ibo's are dominating goes far beyond hardwork, the true reasons can be found on police files all around the country. I am going to relate first hand experience of Nigerians who have tasted the various unconventional practice, market monopoly and manipulation practice by the Ibo traders youngies wrote Just that you may know:When talking about markets let concentrate on the main markets where over 98% of sales receipt are generated, and stop comparing it to some mumbo jumbo/roadside market of no real significant. Alaba-Lagos, Ariaria-Aba, Onitsha market, Sabongari Market-Kano are all international markets generating tens of million Naira per day in sales receipt and supplies other west Africa countries with goods and services. These are some of the markets on focus. Youngies wrote The northerners control the livestock, food items (e.g. tomatoes, yam, beans, corn, potatoes, onions etc) marketsMost of this trade you are talking about are a result of climatic condition or geographic location. The Yoruba's will control the cocoa trade because their soil and climate supports the growth of the cocoa crop better than any other part of the country. So also is cotton from the north, and palm kernel from the east. Youngies wrote It will be a fair assessment if you say that Igbos control electronics, spare parts, clothings, building materials, footwears and stationeries marketsThat is an understatement, the Ibo not only control, they completely dominate most trading activities from the Atlantic in Lagos to the Sahara in Kano without exception . |
Its unfair for the Massob mafia and their apologist on the thread to labelled me a tribalist simply for raising a valid issue regarding Ibo domination of our market. On the international scene, such complaint are valid and important. American complains about the influx of Chinese goods into their market. Europe complain about the domination of their markets by cheap goods from Asia to the detriment of some their industry. In a bid to address western nations complaints and seek a fair balance trade, Asia allows western nations investment and product into their countries without bias. Infact this is the main reason why the WTO, world trade organisation was set up: designed to supervise and liberalize international trade. Nobody has labelled Western nations racist for their complaints. Though Nigeria is a single country, the above analogy is still valid. My objective is to bring the issue to the surface so that we can have a matured and intellectual discussion, and profer a solution that enable us to move forward. I agree that it is a very sensitive issue; that is the reason why we need sound and matured minds to technically analyse the issue with care and diligence not some bunch of marons , like the Massob mafia who has resorted to the use of ghetto language. |
Bilymuse wrote Group twoI share the fear and anxiety of both the Pacifist and the Apologist, they don't want the issue to be discuss for fear it would lead to tribal conflict. Believe me discussing this issues will not lead to tribal unrest, it is denying people the opportunity to express themselves that would lead to conflict When people freedom of speech are taken away on the alter of fear and political correctness, they bottled up their feelings; which later finds another avenue for expression. In Nigeria this avenue is always through violence; check out the statistic, Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Lagos, Aba. One violence always feed another: retaliatory. Its very important that the Government should established forum for group to discuss their differences without any pressure to adhere to political correctness. The Yoruba, Hausas and others should be able to look the Ibo straight in the face and complain about the domination of their major markets, Ibo has the right to respond. Ibo has the right to complain about marginalisation in federal organisations. That is the way forward |
Bilymuse wrote Group oneI would like to inform the Massob mafia on th thread that their strategy has failed woefully. Despite the tribal labeling and brutal attack on my person , the show still goes on. They have used 4 pages of the thread to heap insult on me and now their ammunition is seriously been depleted. Some of them are beginning to look at the substance of the issue. When I wrote the article, I expect a reaction from the Massob mafia and they didn't dissappoint me; they all fell into my trap. I avoided personal insult or the use of ghetto language, while they revelled in it. My original article only state the fact and capture the mood of millions of Nigerians. This same issues are been discuss in the corridor of power in hush hush voices. Some States Government have turned it into a policy, Whenever they construct new shops in the market, they avoid allocating to certain group. |

16-yr-old commits suicide over lover By Adebayo Waheed - 06.03.2009 A 16-year-old senior secondary school student, Miss Oluwakemi Oyadiran, has committed suicide after taking a substance suspected to be poison in Saki, Oyo State. The girl was said to have poisoned herself because her mother did not consent to her relationship with her boyfriend. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ms. Olabisi Okuwobi, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said the girl took insecticide and was rushed to the hospital when she was gasping for breath. She said her remains had been deposited at Baptist Hospital mortuary, Saki In her suicide note dated February 13, 2009, which was addressed to her sister, Adewumi, she wrote “I killed myself because of my mother who always beat me everyday because of my boyfriend, Afolabi.” http://www.tribune.com.ng/06032009/news/news17.html |
These Nairalanders After carefully analysing all the comments posted, I have categorize all the commentator into 4 major groups: Group one The hypocritical Massob mafia, masquerading as nationalist who delight in the fact that Ibo's are dominating our markets but are sadden that the presidency is out of reach. They labelled me a tribalist well cheering on there kinsmen who has tribalised trading activities in Nigerian markets. Group two The Apologist, people who understand the truth but try to profer a reason for the domination. Mostly, their explanation is hollow because they sacrifice the truth on the alter of fear and intimidation. Fear for the consequence of such discussion in a fragile social climate like Nigeria, where the most mundane issue could lead to social strife and unrest. Group three The pacifist, they are uncomfortable with the issue and want it to go away, swept under the carpet as if it never exist. Their motto is: see no evil, hear no evil. Group four The cliffhanger, they are happy to see the issue been discuss, but decided to sit on the fence. Majority of people in these groups domicile overseas and live a premium existence , others are the elite. I'm talking about the ordinary Nigerians , not those who are employed in such fancy sectors like banking, oil; but those employed in the real sector - trading/ small scale, which is the last employable place for the common man. I speak for the man on the street, who head to the market day in day out, for Their livelihood. I speak for the millions of ordinary Nigerians who are the victim of Ibo mafia determined to dominate all our market at all cost. |

Asha80-pig wrote My friend i thought it was the Yoruba's that are dominating the economy. Is dominating in trading means dominating the economy?Nigeria is a poor country with a weak industrial base. The major industry in Nigeria which dominate our economy bringing in over 90% of our revenue is the oil sector. This sector could only provide employment for less than 1% of employable Nigerians. This sector completely dominate the Nigeria economy in terms of revenue. Other sectors are agriculture, telecoms, financial , small and medium scale industries, and trading. The financial sector represented by the banks and other financial institution do not dominate the Nigerian economy, they are a support sector providing support and services for the real economy. Infact the financial sector could only provide employment for less than 3% of Nigerians. The real sector that employs over 60% and provide food and sustenance for millions Nigerians is the small scale/ trading sector. Majority of Nigerians are involve in one form of trading or the other, its the real economy. Markets in Nigeria is not just a place to buy and sell, its the life of the community. The Ibo's has to understand , there is no state in the entire Nigeria, apart from Ibo's state, that is happy to see the Ibo's dominating their markets. |
question: Please could anybody answer this simple question: Do the Ibo's dominate trading activities in Nigerian market? Do the Ibo's restrict other Nigerians access to their own markets? If the answers to both question is a resounding yes, then I'm justified and the devil is a liar The Massob mafia on this forum camouflaging as nationalist, have refused to tackle the core issue raised in my article; rather they are using attack as the best form of defence. They accused me of tribalism, when has stating the facts become an offence. Most of the Massob mafia glow in the knowledge that Ibo's are dominating our economy , but are sadden that they cannot get the presidency. Dude the presidency is not for sale. |
c33b33 deco2come ud4u nuzo Bialegend Ibime onye ngbu scanless Afam4ever Crude oil All of you are shameless hypocrite and I am disappointed about your comment. Non of you has quoted a single sentence that I wrote and claim its a lie. Every single Nigerians knows every words in that write up is a fact. Why am I been castigated for stating the obvious. On this forum must Ibo people pretend as if they are the victim, but in actual fact they are the perpetrators. The rest of Nigeria are a victim of a ruthless Ibo mafia whose sole agenda is economy domination , while eliminating any opposition. How can people who formed less than 30% of Nigerian population be dominating our entire country economy. Nigeria presidency is by negotiation and a trade off. The Ibo cannot dominate the market and at the same time have the presidency. You cannot eat your cake and have it. |
Nigeria cannot afford an Ibo president the Obama presidency is a proverb on Africa, there is hope that such a scenario would be repeated at home. In America the white are not afraid of the black, rather they seek to correct historical injustice by giving a black man a fair chance to rule and be part of American dream. With regard to the Ibo's the situation is different. The average Nigerians is distrustful and suspicious of the Ibo's. In comparison to their population , the Ibo's control more than 70% of Nigeria economy. From the shore of Atlantic ocean in Lagos to the Sahara in Kano, the Ibo's completely controls the local trading economy. From the biggest cities to the smallest village, Ibo's are Lord of trading, using monopoly and various unconventional business practices to dominate the market. Meanwhile you cannot find a single non-Ibo shop in Ariaria Market at Aba , nor Onitsha market; this is true for all the Ibo state. The Ibo's refuse all non-Ibo tribe to have access to their market, while at the same time dominating the entire market in Nigeria without exception. Are the Ibo's the only people who knows how to trade? Any attempt by other Nigerians to open a shop near an Ibo shop is frustrated through various nefarious activities. An average Ibo man is better off financially than any other Nigerian. Nigeria is a poor, corrupt and weak infrastructural based country with more than 140 millions mouth to feed. Oil is our only source of income which represent more than 90% of our revenue. We cannot entrust our presidency with an Ibo man. There is every likelihood that he his going to completely dominate and manipulate our oil revenue to the exclusion of all other Nigerians, just like hi his presently doing in the Nigeria markets. The Nigerian presidency is not by vote , its by negotiation. To be the president, you must negotiate with the other stakeholders, they would make demand of you; its a give and take situation. If the Ibo's want the presidency, let him come to the negotiating table, we would ask one demand of him: that he should allows other Nigerian a free and unrestricted access to their market in all Ibo towns , while at the same time stop dominating and manipulating trading activities in other Nigerian towns. Its fair and democratic. E jighi eyo acho ihe agba n'aka |

T.B. Joshua’s Synagogue Church of all Nations a tourist Mecca for Heads of States and VIPs , see a sample list of visitors February 18th, 2009 Chris Ajaero -Newswatch T.B. Joshua’s Synagogue Church of all Nations has become a tourist Mecca of sorts and most of its visitors are presidents, heads of governments and kingdoms from various parts of Africa When John Evans Atta-Mills, the new Ghanaian president left Accra, Ghana, for Nigeria, January 10, his mission was to attend the meeting of the presidents of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, in Abuja. It was his first official visit to Nigeria after his inauguration as the president of Ghana, January 7. While other ECOWAS leaders headed back to their various countries after the meeting, Atta-Mills flew straight to Lagos to meet with T.B. Joshua, general overseer of The Synagogue Church of all Nations for a thanksgiving service which took place on Sunday, January 11. Atta-Mills recalled that his relationship with Joshua dates back to the time he was vice-president of Ghana more than 10 years ago. “I am no stranger to the Synagogue. Indeed, I have been here very regularly. And I have known the man of God for more than 10 years,” he said. The new Ghanaian president, who is also a professor of law, stunned the world when he gave testimony that Joshua predicted his electoral victory. According to him, Joshua had predicted that his election would be by three successive balloting as no definite winner would emerge in the first and second ballot and the winner will be announced in January 2009. He explained that Joshua’s prophesy came to pass because when the presidential election was first held on December 7, there was no clear winner between him and Nana Akufo-Addo, presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, NPP. A presidential run-off election was subsequently held on December 28, but the problems with polling in the Tain Constituency delayed results as fresh polls had to be held there on January 2, before the Electoral Commissioner declared Atta-Mills the winner. The new Ghanaian leader was grateful to Joshua for serving as the vessel through which God made his presidential dream a reality. “Now, if there is anybody who does not believe in God, I would say our elections should change that person’s mind. We prayed for peace, stability and unity for our dear native land before, during and after the election. We begged God because He is our creator and He is the great provider. God gave us more than we asked for… Man of God (Joshua) I want to thank the Almighty for using you and many others.” Atta-Mills said that his bond of friendship with Joshua was further strengthened because despite the mighty works he has been doing through the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he has remained very humble. He described him as his mentor. Atta-Mills, is, however, not the first African leader who enjoys a robust relationship with the man in the Synagogue. Many other African leaders have literally turned the church situated in Ikotun-Egbe, a Lagos suburb, into a pilgrimage centre of sorts. They include, President Omar Bongo of the Republic of Gabon, Goodwill Zwelithini, King of the Zulu from South Africa, ex-President Frederick Chiluba of Zambia, Andre Kolimba, former president of the Central African Republic, ex-President Pascal Linssouba of Congo Brazaville and Yormie Johnson, the former Liberian warlord. Like the biblical woman with the issue of blood who insisted on touching Jesus Christ, Bongo, the Gabonese president, visited Joshua in January 2008, after the prophet had failed to honour his invitation on several occasions. Bongo had invited him several times to Gabon without success. He then decided to visit the prophet. He was accompanied by his wife, and daughter. Bongo said he was thrilled by the way the prophet was touching the lives of people spiritually and materially whenever he watched Emmanuel TV, the satellite television arm of the church. He was also compelled to visit the church after listening to several testimonies by many highly placed citizens of his country who had experienced the prophet’s ministration in the past. A few weeks after his spiritual sojourn in Nigeria, Bongo dispatched his presidential jet to bring him to Gabon to pray for divine intervention in the affairs of his country. The visit to the Synagogue by the Zulu King, on November 15, 2003, was particularly significant. The King came calling a few months after Sibusile, his daughter was healed of an ailment on August 20, 2003, at the Synagogue. The Zulu King was excited about her daughter’s healing because for several years he had taken the princess to many hospitals which failed to cure her. Since she received her healing, Sibusile had remained in The Synagogue where she devoted her life to the service of God as a member of the choir and presenter in French on Emmanuel T.V. Another South African king who is among Joshua’s friends is Koshi Kgabo Moloto of the Limpopo Kingdom. His visit to The Synagogue was on June 22, 2006. He confessed that he came with his entourage to witness the power of Jesus Christ and to seek breakthrough for his kingdom. The king of Limpopo, who was dressed in his traditional regalia, after spending more than one week in the church, acknowledged that he had seen the word of God working in the spirit. Earlier in 1999, Chiluba, who was then the president of Zambia, had paid a visit to the Synagogue where he spent a weekend. After the visit, he had promised to dedicate his post-presidential era to the service of God. Joshua had also been instrumental to the reconciliation of the families of the late Samuel Doe of Liberia and Yormie Johnson, who allegedly assassinated him. Johnson, who is now a pastor, is a close friend of Joshua and visits the church regularly. Other prominent personalities who have visited the church are Jaso Van de Westhuzen, professional rugby player healed by Joshua, Rev. Tay Cheng Kee, founder of Bethesda Carthedral, Singapore, Raph Beimer, a judge of the US Supreme Court and Dupuo Peter, Premier of Northern Cape, South Africa. The frequent visits of these leaders have greatly enhanced the international profile of the man in the Syngogue. He has become a respected religious leader whom they often go to for spiritual guidance and mentorship. Joshua told Newswatch last week, that these leaders, who flock to the church, were in search of God’s guidance, wisdom and knowledge on how to lead their countries and kingdoms. “The attraction is knowledge of the outside and internal renovation,” he said. As the spiritual adviser of these leaders, Joshua counsels them to emulate his life style of humility, generosity and care for the downtrodden. He, however, said that of all his highly placed friends in the corridors of power, Atta-Mills stands out as a man of faith because he is a member of his church. Newswatch also learnt that many of them visited him for spiritual healing and solutions to their ailments and problems. Joshua, the prophet whom many world leaders now flock to his church had a humble beginning. He was born 45 years ago in Arigidi Akoko, Ondo State. Supernatural phenomena accompanied his birth and early life. He was said to have remained in his mother’s womb for 15 months before he was born. He attended St. Stephen’s Anglican Primary School, Ikare Akoko, between 1971 and 1977. His gift of prophesy started manifesting right in the primary school where he was known as “small pastor” because of his love for the Bible and ability to predict events. In 1987, he fasted and prayed for 40 days and 40 nights on a prayer mountain. He was said to be in a heavenly vision when he received divine anointing and covenant from God to start his ministry. Joshua started the church with a handful of members but today the ministry has grown far beyond the shores of Nigeria. In recognition of his humanitarian activities and the global evangelical dimension the Synagogue has attained, the federal government recently honoured him with Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic, OFR. Joshua is married to Evelyn and the marriage is blessed with three children. source:http://www.nigeriannewsservice.com/news/118/ARTICLE/5917/2009-02-18.html |
