0hsisi: Nigerians that marry these foreign wives really do have a burden on their hands You have to constantly explain and re-explain yourself Give ample notices, excuses and answer a million whys It must be very tiring I can't imagine a husband always explaining what a particular food is called, the ingredients, translate not only his local language but pidgin English too. It's hard enough to marry from another tribe where the spouse doesn't understand the language but at least the Nigerian experience and expectation is very similar. If I go village or anywhere in Naija with my oga and the generator is broken down,I will happily use lamps at night, happily draw water from a "drum" with bucket, bathe out of the bucket and happily pour a bucket of water into the toilet to flush. But these our men have to bend over backwards to cater to the comfort of these their foreign wives. God forbid the generator breaks down. He may start apologizing and may be forced to fan the woman all night while she complains of how hot the place is If the gas cylinder is empty suddenly, how will she cook with a kerosene stove or firewood sef if need be? These men dey try o If I be man,I no fit carry that kain load ,marriage is hard enough Yes o ,you can say that again jor. |

ufos77: I wanted to surprise one of my past girlfriends with a new Homda City car for her birthday which was 3 months away. But due to her level of thinking like that of tolutara and co, she told me what she wanted which was a Blackberry phone. I ended up giving her what she wanted and she lost something greater, I would have given her. MY GIRLFRIEND WAS MATERIALISTIC AND I THOUGHT I COULD CHANGE HER FOR THE BETTER. SHE IS MARRIED NOW AND STILL DISPLAYS THIS INSATIABLE ATTITUDE BY MAKING DEMANDS ON ME THAT HER HUSBAND CANNOT GIVE HER. WHAT I DO IS GIVE HER MONEY EQUIVALENT: A friend of mine was thinking of building a bungalow(real asset) in his wife's name for her birthday-this was their first house ever and he was thinking of doing it to protect his wife friom relatives should he die prematurely. But just like tolutara, his wife requested for a BMW X5. That told him she was not mature enough to handle the family finances if he were to suddenly die. He gave her the car and built the house in his name. LESSON: Ladies learn to be realistic and let your man give you what he can comfortably afford rather than living a false life to please someone. IF truly the ladies really know their man, they will not need to tell him what they want before he provides it so long as it is within his power. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS IS THE SAD CASE OF MOST NIGERIAN LADIES. NO WONDER PEOPLE SAY NIGERIAN LADIES ARE NOT ROMANTIC-IT CONFIRMS THE SAYING: NO ROMANCE WITHOUT FINANCE. Absolutely nonsense!!!! |

Culture › Re: Your View about Nigerians Who Travel To USA To Give Birth For USA Citizenship? by bintab(f): 11:47am On Jun 24, 2010 |
Princek12: My intelligent and wonderful people of Nairaland,
Many Nigerians who are neither legal residents nor citizens of the United States travel to the U.S. solely for the purpose of giving birth to their children for obvious reasons--to acquire USA citizenship for their newly born. It appears that a U.S. citizenship is mostly sought after by Nigerians, even more than a UK citizenship. As a matter of fact, a consular officer will deny your visa application if you show any sign of pregnancy at the interview. The USA Constitution provides that any persons born on U.S. soil is a U.S. citizen, and many Nigerians have taken advantage of this Constitutional provision. Sadly, many Nigerians come and accumulate thousands of dollars in hospital bills upon given birth, and simply abandon the bills when they leave. This has given Nigerians a very bad reputation among emergency hospitals, for some hospitals frown at many pregnant Nigerians who come to their emergency rooms while they are in labor (they are assuming that they won't pay their bills and run back to Nigeria). The parents now take their newly born child, who is now a U.S. citizen, travel back to Nigeria and, without contributing anything to the U.S. economy, they expect that 18 years later, their child will come back to the U.S., a country to which they have paid no taxes or help develop, to benefit from several government programs provided for U.S. citizens. Do you think that these practices is fair, especially after accumulating and ignoring a substantial hospital bill? My own view people who are rich enough to buy their plane ticket on the purpose to cme to u.s to have baby/babies should also make arrangements how those bills are to be paid. Now U.S immigration and home land securities have a way of tracking down these people.I have a friend whose sister did thesame, Her hosp.bills were paid by medicaid of Va, she currently have not been able to visit again ,they denied her a second chance of visiting claiming she defaulted her payment and tax payers have to foot the bills. |

namazon: @Dave: I already have in mind what I want to do after I pass the boards this spring and that is to gain employment at a respectable hospital. I don't want to be chained to the bedside and I am striving to use other gifts I believe will enhance my life and career within nursing as well. To do this my goal is to work for 1.5 - 2 years MAX, then get my masters in anesthesia or midwifery, although I'm not sure if I will get my choice as to which area since I'm new. I am far aware of the humanitarian aspect, as that is the reason why I switched fields and acquired another degree to become an RN. My only qualm is administration and the milieu of nursing. There happens to be quite a bit of politics and it doesn't help that it is predominantly female dominated so there are enough problems there. I guess I just have to deal with the potential attitudes as I've been a tech/nurse's aid/unit clerk and have often bore the brunt of nurse's frustrations for whatever reason. I am hoping to build a thicker skin to withstand it because after all, it has taken me alot of time and resources and I would hate for a few choice people to ruin my experience by causing me frustration. I don't want to be going to work everyday with another reason to fear the plight of my license because I can't concentrate due to the amount of hateful horizontal voilence that nurses these days are exhibiting. In spite of this, I greatly look forward to finding my niche and making a difference in the health of others because that is just one of the many things that really makes me happy. MCLOVIN: Managing Sickle cell disorder can be a nightmare for both patient and care providers. Theres no textbook protocol for keeping a sickler healthy. What works for one may not necessarily work another. The basics are keep warm, stay well hydrated, avoid physically strenous activity but take enough exercise. Fatty foods do not seem to help so avoid. Supplements like folic acid and B complex and zinc are helpful. Make sure he/she gets vaccinated against pneumococcus and other possible infections. Theres also NICOSAN a new drug that is supposed to prevent or decrease incidence of painful episodes, you might want to try that as well. Some sicklers can live long as anyone else, i met a 73 yr old woman who is also SS recently. So it is possible. there are many who are already in their 50s married with kids so have a positive outlook. I concur your view on this one,in the states the med of choice for scd pt is HYDREA it is grouped under chemo and most be taken daily with every 3 monthly blood work. |

namazon: I am glad to see this as I am preparing for my boards in May and haven't started working yet. I was just wondering as a new nurse where do they typically place us as I'm not too sure I want to start out doing medsurg but I was told this is best if you need critical care experience to prep for Masters. I am a nurse too,i do not practise in naija, The best unit to start your carrier is medsurg,in short you are required by all specialty area to have at least one year experince pre before venturing to any specialty unit. I wish you all the best in your exams. |

coolier: My brother died and was buried seven years ago. We were inseparable in those days and I almost believed my life was also coming to an end. Often times I wished I could see him again, just one more time to tell him how much I loved him and missed him, how badly I hurt and how things are just not the same without him. But time they say heal wounds and in years to follow I was my old bubbling self again with sweet memories of him.
You can then imagine my shock coming face to face with him on an International flight. I was seated right next to him. I fainted when I got to my seat and saw him and it took the flight crew some time to revive me and assist me to my seat of course next to him. I was still shaking all over when one of the flight attendants jokingly said to him "keep an eye on her now, will you", and he replied "sure". He spoke to the hostess, she saw him too! he made himself visible to her!
I looked at him again and he smiled at me. I couldn't have mistaken that smile I've missed so much, those lovely set of teeth! I didn't know what to say I just introduced myself and gave excuses for fainting. "It's OK", he said, smiling again "you looked like you saw a ghost". He then introduced himself and all through the flight I learnt a lot of other things about about him, his family, childhood etc.
And what do you know? He turned out to be my half brother, whom I never knew existed or met. He carries a photograph of my dad in his wallet. He was born exactly the same year as my late brother, anybody would have taken then for identical twins had my brother not passed away. You see, I grew up with my parents in a house full of love that is why this is so shocking and not once did my father mentioned him or his mum.
I never told him much about me during the flight, I was still in shock to do so, so he had no inkling of who I am. I just let him do the talking most of the time. Now I think of him all of the time. What do I do now? I have his number and email. Wow,i was speechless when i read your story.Dear take heart, call him and let him know you. |
