lol he made a wise decision and secured his interest at heart by giving okc one more year while the next being a player option

"Westbrook is functionally adding only one year to his contract. He was set for restricted free agency in 2017; now, it's 2018" - BR

So now he won't be traded by the team to another highest bidder... But can leave a year later than intended to the team of his choice knowing he has paid his dues....

Nothing about loyalty and what not it's just simple strategy... Would do the same if it was me

p.s. He also increased the monetary value both in the market and also in salary for this move. So Why Not?
Obviously Westbrook made a good business move here. But from the press conference, it seemed the GM was willing to part with a little more quid than usual because he believed Westbrook's story about proving something - we will see in a year grin

Ewo tun ni blindside? Na the same mama born them?

When your guy left the Heat and actually cost Wade money shey una talk that time

Me sef go like make dem blindside me with $85m/3 yr deal
notifying your compadre of 8 years you changed your mind at the last moment via text is low. yeah, durant has a right to do whatever, but his rep as a stand-up guy is shot.

I would never believe Durant was capable of this kind of low down behavior, especially after that MVP speech he gave.

And then, after the fact, Westbrook finds out that Green had been recruiting Durant all season shocked - even while he was trash-talking Warriors with him. Anyone here really things this wasnt a slimy thing to do?
SportsRe: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 2:52am On Aug 05, 2016
in other news, westbrook staying in okc. I still find it hard to believe Durant would blindside Westbrook like that. Next season's thunder vs warriors gon be hot.

Remember the birdman - Chris Andersen. He is reunited with his former buddy.

I think the tattoo just makes a lot of guys scared of him.
birdman fan here all day. But at 38, I wonder how much he can contribute. His major asset was blocking shots and scoring without any plays set for him, mostly by cleaning up missed shots or just hanging around the rim at the right time, even a fastbreak or two every game, and yeah, his D was legit. But I have to think his hops are nothing like they were 4 years ago.

than again, he has always been something of an athletic freak

Why are you comparing two extremes? Who in today's NBA would go over a decade making just $100k

Gbagbe! Rings is the currency of transaction among the greats. Your guy LeBron ran from Cleveland to Miami back to Cleveland with the primary aim of Championships. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise

Durant knows the clock is ticking and has made his move.

Infact it is smarter to do it in your youth than to start embarrassingly chasing it during Father Time like Malone, Payton Barkley
Yeah its extreme. Its the old fame vs fortune argument. Russel is nba royalty number 1 vs Tmac the underachiever.

For all the pro-rings folk, question for yall. If given a choice you must make, who would you rather be:

Bill Russell
-11 rings
-Salary 100k
-NBA royalty, gets ovation and respect at every NBA event

or Tmac
-Got out of first round twice, no rings
-Salary 23 mill
-Wealthy business man

SmooshCHN kids and rings abi? Dont worry, you changing diaper days are coming grin

All these is pure hatred and the reason is cos the Warriors makes win look effortless no matter how you fight.. Some set of skinny guys comes shoot the building with 3s and that's it, all you dunks is for nothing.. It's just purely and unwarranted hatred.. 73-9?? If Celtics or Houston or Utah Jazz had that, some bitter people will still have every reason to hate

Other players or teams have done worse than whatever show offs the Warriors did, the fans are loud and it drives y'all crazy but deal with it.. It's just hatred from wherever God knows you people cultivate from but the Warriors are happy and of course no one likes happy people especially when you're happy and break records effortlessly and finally land the 3rd best in the league.
can you look at the arguments for once and stop personalizing everything about warriors? pure hatred? why na undecided All I said was that the warriors have a lot to do with their popularity taking a hit, and I provided examples. Yeah, a lot of things the warriors do piss me off, but I never hate their skills, or team work.

Everyone loved GSW until they dared to break that 72-10 record. That's when they became anathema. Had GSW gotten KD by 2014, nobody would have been talking about Super teams I bet you.
Bros stop it. The warriors used their own hands to tarnish themselves.

From green's antics and kicking people in the balls to curry dancing and making faces on the bench to klay telling Lebron its a mans game to ayeesha tweeting crap everyday, there is plenty of blame to go around. Warriors are not the first team to win a ring, but they acted like it. They refused to get over themselves and kept feeding on the limelight. Surprise, they found out what every famous star knows, the same limelight that feeds you will feed on you.

If it was cavs fans making all these excuses, we for don hear am by now

Abeg someone should riddle me this. Why is it better for a player to sign for an outfit with less probability of winning a ring, when the money they would have paid him is not more than what he would have earned playing for a team with a far greater probability?

Not mad at Durant, nor wade... They are chasing rings, money or whatever. Go do it. Just disappointed really because it is less competition in the west.
west is deep enough to absorb this i think. remember the clippers gassed out because of injuries. mavs arent really going away and will probably make playoffs with a few trades. similar for the rockets. And dont look past the grizz - they are aguably better. The top 5-6 teams in the west are all deadly, and any of the top 4 can come out of the West. Lets see if Warriors utilize durant's length and defensive potential, or if he just becomes another gunner. Sad day if its the latter...

@smooshchn, you raise some good points, but frankly, we wont know how things turn out until several players see their ppg and touches drop come december, january. off court friendships are good in theory

The dude said it specifically, he wants rings. He has been a contender for 7/9 years of his career. He's tired of getting so close and knowing it's not just enough..
I hear you. Ultimately its up to him - but remember last year I blasted Aldridge for doing the same thing with the Spurs. I didnt say anything about David West. Why? Early in your career, you ALWAYS go for the money. Ring/championship is something a bunch of billionaires invented to keep their business/game viable for as long as possible. If you play in the NBA, you are unltimately an employee. Simple.

Durant chasing ring over career at this point is just as bad as what Aldridge did. I am not saying don't chase ring, nothing wrong with that, but for the love of God dont do it at the expense of your career path and big time pay - did you see how much Conley got?! Man, I wish more savvy NBA vets would sit with this youngn's and teach them what is real and what is not - get larger and get paid while you can!!!

So wade left Miami and left Hassan alone. That guy is not after championship rings at all. Hassan will rise.Cant belive he dumped hassan. Miami will rise with Hassan there. Well chicago looks like they might still be good.

This next season is going to be brutal. The knicks looks like they might be contenders also
I think so, but I have reservations about a Rose-Melo combo. Looks good on paper, but both kind-sorta need the paint to get going

You're just pissed he took his talents to the Bay area. Warriors never had beefs with OKC just healthy competition. You can call OKC vs Mavs beef not Warriors.. Everyone feel angry cos Warriors are the top and he went to join making them unstoppable and unfair to other teams. Durant like these days players did what's best for their personal interest and his' is rings unlike some others money.
Those who feel his reputation feel he wronged the morally wrong and it's OK to judge him that way. The world will be a better place if everyone tried to understand people's situation and respect their judgement. KD wants ring, Wade wants money cos he already had Rings, LeBron wanted rings at one time and now they have it. Players do this..
There's no beef between both teams KD never truly had a chance against GSW and he finally joined the team chasing him for two years.
kai. why do warriors fans have to personalize everything. no i am not pissed. seriously. I really am not. just dissapointed. Even with his addition, the west is not a sure win for warriors next year (the spurs have another year to gel after all the new additions last year). In terms of what is best for his career, you and I can only speculate. But think about it this way - let me put what I thought his top 4 should have been

Celtics - He becomes the go-to guy on a young but dangerous team, and the face of top 2 storied franchises in the nation. Instantly, the news will be about an LBJ-Durant ECF battle, for years to come. This was the team I thought would be best by far for his career.

Mavericks - This team was one scorer away from contending last year. Imagine Durant comes in and they get to WCF - MVP on a big market team. I'd say his rep is made.

Wizard - Backcourt of Wall and Beal. Again, he becomes the face of the Wiz. Athough he will share the limelight with Wall, Wall can be more a true PG and wont eat into Duran't points. Another instant ECF contender

OKC - He remains with westbrook and the twin towers. Coach Donovan will only get better and they will likely get to WCF again.

He left all these much better career options to become number 3 or 4 option on a 73 win team? Maaaan, this was a bad move. I am rooting for Durant, but this is going to hurt when it finally sets in for him. Worst thing is, if the warriors win next year, he is just another dude on a winning team. If they lose, oh boy....

ANYONE REMEMBER THIS POST?

I am eager to see where the Heats get points from, Wade just gave them the classic back door out of the house.
Riley tried to play hardball and it didnt work - he needs to understand the mentality of today's nba player. Supposedly he had the same posture with LBJ, which made returning to cleveland more appealing. So Luol is gone, J Johnson is gone too. I dont know if Bosh will really play a full season with health issues. Heat are done.

Bros, to be sincere I don't like Lebron that much but I have to admit Durant move was way worse than Lebron's

Warriors is a 73 win team before KD, Heat had 47 wins before LeBron and struggled
Warriors now have the last 2 MVPs in their primes, one of the top 5 greatest shooters, a finals mvp plus a triple double all star, Heat bin only get Big 3 and an ageing Allen
Leave that regular season record, no be majority of East dem play? Cavs then wasn't that good and were outplayed by Magic who in turn got swept by Lakers

OKC was a championship team and with the right players can be better, so is the Warriors. In fact, Warriors has a better chance of beating Cavs next season even without Durant. On the other hand, Heat then wasn't a championship side and Cavs wasn't without LeBron.
The best team for Durant would've been in the East probably Celtics or Heat sef.

I'm not saying Lebron wasn't an idiot but you're using your hatred for the king to argue with sentiments
what Durant did undecided He could have gone to any team - he chose the one team he and westbrook had personal beef with. Before last season began, word floating around was that OKC felt they should have won a ring before Warriors. And that animosity showed in the WCF. Then you turn around and join them? That is like Jordan joining the Detroit pistons after getting flogged .

Some things a man just doesnt do ...oh well interesting next season. durant's rep is done. and its unfortunate, because he has always liked to be the "good guy". What would even be worse is if the warriors lose next season again

I'm a big fan of Lebron. I love his intensity and versitality. Lebron is the most versatile player the game ever saw. he has a blend of several alltime greats:

1) Jordan's athlethism, leadership and dunks.
2) iverson's explosion and intensity.
3) magic's passing/playmaking vision.
4) shaq's dominance.
5) Grant hill/ Scotty pippen's all round game.

We have never seen one single player posses the characteristics of several players as much as Lebron does.
his only weakness is his shooting stroke-off-the-dribble and post-moves.

There are currently two other players In his level, Curry and Durant.

To answer your question: I would have just stuck to Lebron for rest of my life, cause he is my kind of player.

but that Guy called Durant deserves a ring also. Durant to me is a more efficient scorer than Kobe. that's to tell you how good he is.
iv never seen a player that tall that shoots/play that way in my life.
closest to him must have been Tmac at that height.
I am a lebron fan, but nah, i think you have overhyped him here

1) Jordan's athlethism, leadership and dunks. - He is more athletic than Jordan was, by far. But leadership, no. He is getting there, but if you need to tweet to the outside world to motivate your team, you have some work to do
2) iverson's explosion and intensity. - No, please dont say this again. There has never been another iverson like player in both categories since he left the league. The closest thing to explosiveness was monta ellis in his prime, but he had neither the ball ahndles or the intensity
3) magic's passing/playmaking vision. - he is at least magic's equal in this respect
4) shaq's dominance. - nooo. you think curry would ever try to guard shaq in the post? Lebron is a beast, but nothing like shaq
5) Grant hill/ Scotty pippen's all round game. - I'd say yes, except tha his jumpshot has always been suspect. If he ever gets that down, game over. but he wont

Bottomline, Lebron is a forward-center with deadly defense, great bball iq, stellar passing and decent ball handles. And he can knock down shots if you sag off of him too much.

Thank God for vindicating LBJ. My King James fandom has never been about his stats first

He not only wins, but wins in a big way, against the most dangerous sharpshooters ever., on the biggest stage. I believe this is a reward for the under-g moves Lebron makes. All those community connections, sponsorships, symbolic protests when it wasnt popular etc....

my hats off to a black NBA player that knows who he is, where he is, and the significance of the position his god-given skills have put him. i can assure you guys, all the other under-g brothers...stephen a, chris broussard, etc are celebrating this win regardless of what they say on tv.
