KEY FACTORS: 1.Woman are seen as weak vessels 2.Women are bound by Tradition, culture and Religion. 3.The do or die affairs in politics WOMEN AS WEAK VESSELS "Women are also seen as weak vessels, this is one of the factors considered by the people when it comes to voting" --Ololainfinity (one of our readers) In our society today, women are generally regarded as weak vessels when it comes to leadership positions.Weak vessels in the sense that we men and also most women think that they (women) does not have the abilities of leading or heading a very large number of people. Also an average man believes that women are not supposed to participate in politics or be in leadership positions because he believes women are created to be under men. WOMEN ARE BOUND BY TRADITION,CULTURE AND RELIGION Most traditions, our culture per say and religion today does not allow women to participate in politics because they believe it contradicts their beliefs. Let's take for instance in the Hausa/ Muslim community, a woman is not allowed to constantly make public appearance, she is rather confided to one section in her husband's house than moving freely like their counterparts. They are highly discouraged from participating in politics because of their teachings. Also an average Igbo man wouldn't want a situation whereby their wives will be having the say in their homes. This leads to women being discouraged to venture into politics because they believe their women will be greater than them. But fortunately or unfortunately for them, most of the prominent women politicians today are their wives and sisters. THE DO OR DIE AFFAIRS IN POLITICS Generally,Politics around the globe today is regarded as a dirty game played by those of hard and dirty minds. The heat in the political world today is very intense because of the selfish interests of politicians who would go miles to make sure they win in elections thereby making politics look like a DO OR DIE AFFAIR. Now,going by the women perspectives of politics, majority of women believes politics is a thing of the men.while most of them naturally hates politics. The other day I asked a female friend of mine how she feels about politicians, lolz she didn't even allow me to finish, she replied thus "I hate politics and people that practise it". I told one I pray she marries a politician but she immediately replied "God forbid" Have we forgotten the likes of Dame Virgy Etiaba (First female governor in Nigeria) Diezani Allison-Madueke (First female OPEC chairman) Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (Former Director Of World Bank) Aisha Alhassan(First Female democratically elected governor in Nigeria ) Though still in court. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf(First elected black female president) My advice to women/ladies out there is to embrace politics, you may not necessarily wait till you contest for presidency.Try to take up leadership roles in places you find yourself, build up yourself from there. And to the Men folks, let's not discourage our wives, sisters and friend from participating in politics. No one knows who will Salvage our Society!
