Career / Finding Your Passion And Purpose In Life: Having Fun While... – Pelagie Egbane by BISolutionsng: 9:51pm On May 01, 2016 |
http://biempowerment.com/2016/04/30/finding-passion-purpose-life-fun-pelagie-egbane/ #WeLoveGraduates #WeEmpowerYouths Up until my university days in O.A.U,Ile-Ife, I never really gave any serious thought to what I really had passion for or what my purpose in life was…… For years I heard people say where your passion is, lies your million dollar. I heard so much about it, that I desired so much to know why God created me and what I naturally had passion for.(so I can start making my millions too)… The more I searched, the more it eluded me. I had people around me doing things, going into different businesses and I kept asking questions “ how did you know this is what you are meant to do? They gave me answers, but it never really seem to satisfy my quest then. I started getting so hard on myself, I was so disappointed that as simple as it seems, I just could not place my hand on that ‘thing’ that I love to do that will yield millions of dollars for me… It cant be so difficult , can it? Of course growing up, I have had dreams of becoming so many things, from being a writer, to being a TV Presenter and then a Counsellor of some sort…The shocker? I am not in any of these fields today.(My parents helped in killing that dream as much as I did too. Their excuse?, it is not a money spinner). In fact, the Industry where I find myself at the moment was the least I ever thought I will be…..Banking!! But am I enjoying it? Oh yes I am! I was in Customer Service for some years and then I was moved to Marketing…. I hated it at the time but over the years I found out, to be happy and successful in life, you must be diligent where ever you find yourself and above all be happy where you are. There, you begin to find your purpose and passion gradually.(For those like me who could not place a hand on it at an early stage of their life or who did but due to the peculiarities of our society were discouraged from pursuing it). While you are at it, the following steps might help. 1.Read books that will open up your mind and thinking. 2.Associate with friends that will inspire you and build you up. Ask them questions and learn from their wealth of knowledge. 3.Develop yourself in the field you think you have interest in even if you are not sure. No knowledge is lost. 4.Attend training and conferences and while you are there make sure you network. You can never tell, where you will might meet that person who will lead you to your goldmine (Your purpose in life) 5.While at it, please enjoy it. Be diligent and happy where you find yourself, even if it does not look like where you should be. God rewards the diligent person. 6.Above all, your eyes should not be fixed on the “money”. My parents and I were so fixated on the field/passion that will be the money spinner and that was where we missed it… Yes, it will bring money in the long run but that should not be your primary focus. I wish you all the best as you make life changing decisions. Pelagie Egbane 1 Like

You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world's problems at once but don't ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own. —Michelle Obama 2. He who labors diligently need never despair; for all things are accomplished by diligence and labor. — Menander 3. The end of labor is to gain leisure. — Aristotle 4. A man is not paid for having a head and hands, but for using them. — Elbert Hubbard 5. There is no substitute for hard work. —Thomas Edison 6. In proportion therefore, as the repulsiveness of the work increases, the wage decreases. — Karl Marx 7. With intellectual labor your hard work is forever, while with manual labor your hard work is temporary and soon forgotten. — Jarod Kintz 8. All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. —T.E. Lawrence 9. Bear in mind that the wonderful things you learn in your schools are the work of many generations. All this is put in your hands as your inheritance in order that you may receive it, honor it, add to it, and one day faithfully hand it on to your children. — Albert Einstein 10. Jobs/Vacancies / Tosin Adekanmbi, Shares Tips On Writing A Successful CV by BISolutionsng: 9:54am On Apr 29, 2016 |
http://biempowerment.com/2016/04/04/tips-writing-successful-curriculum-vitae-cv/ #WeLoveGraduates #WeEmpowerYouths Having a good CV is one of the first steps in getting the job you want. If you are a fresh graduate you may not know the first thing about selling your skills through your CV. If you are not a fresh graduate you probably have a CV already. So before you start clicking away on every job website and submitting CV hoping to book a job interview, you need to check that CV again to ensure it will sell your skills, get employers looking in your direction and land you your best job yet in 2016. Kathy Cowen member of the Guardian Culture Professionals Network shared some top tips on creating a memorable and readable CV. Below is five of the tips. Get the Basics right There is no hard and fast rule about writing a good cv but there are some common sections that must be covered. Personal and contact information; education and qualification; employment history/ experiences; relevant skills to the job; interests and achievements. Presentation is key For your CV to be get viewed it must be carefully and clearly presented and printed on a clean crisp white paper. The layout of your CV should be clean and well structured. When making an application by post ensure you use an A4 envelope to ensure the cv isn’t folded or crumpled. Include your most vital information in the CV hotspot which is the upper middle area of the CV. Tailor your CV to the role To write a successful CV ensure you’ve read in detail the job description and person specification required and tailor your cv to those requirement. There is no such thing as a generic CV so every cv sent out to an employer must be tailored to the job. You don’t have to rewrite the cv every time all you have to do is adapt the details of the CV so its relevant. Making the most of experience Be very selective of words used on your CV. Use assertive and positive language under the work history and experience sections such as “organised”, “achieved” or “developed”. Relate the skills you’ve acquired to the job you are applying for. Describe results you achieved using percentages describe how they improved the organization. For example I created a filing system within the administrative department that saved 75% of time wasted in retrieving information. Keep your CV updated It’s crucial to review your CV on a regular basis and add any new skills or experience that’s missing. For example if you’ve done any volunteering job or worked on a new project, make sure they’re on your CV as potential employers are always impressed with candidates who go the extra mile to boost their own skills and experience. Now you have the tools needed get cracking on creating that CV that’ll sell your skills and get employers looking in your direction. I wish you the best on your journey towards greatness. Celebrities / Wole Oguntokun Speaks To BI Empowerment About His Journey by BISolutionsng: 4:06pm On Apr 28, 2016 |
Let’s meet Wole Oguntokun I am a Dramatist, a Playwright, a Poet and the Artistic Director of Renegade Theater. I am also the Founder of the Theater Republic. I actually studied Law in the university and I hold two Masters’ degrees in Law and in Humanitarian and refugees studies. You studied law in the University and even have a Master’s degree in law. How did you find yourself in drama productions? I made my way there. It wasn’t accidental. Everyone is born with a gift, I reckon, I was blessed to recognize mine after a while. I started with writing plays and then created platforms for putting them up. Challenges faced while trying to get to the top In the beginning, very few people believed in me or understood what I was doing. There was also very little money to get my message across. It’s been a long while in coming, this ‘success’, and there’s still some way to go, but one must hang in there. www.biempowerment.com #WeEmpowerYouths #WeLoveGraduates The first time I heard this slogan was on a talk show "Moments with Mo" and I just fell in love with it because it just described my mind set. Growing up, I realized I had an inferiority complex, I felt everyone was better than me. It was so bad I remember a particular time that I thought Igbos were superior to the yorubas and would always wish and tell people that I was an Igbo girl forgetting or even to young to understand that my name was a Yoruba name. I was always bullied in school, many times, my classmates would push my bed outside to the corridor and I would not mind just because I did not think I was good enough to be their friendand I wanted acceptance from them. I thought my self as a failure and unworthy of success. My mind was always pre occupied with negative thoughts until one day, my mom called me and told me she had been watching me and realized I did not believe in myself, what she told me that day changed my life. That is what I intend to share with you in this write up. She told me she was the prettiest, the richest and the most intelligent amongst her friends, I looked at her and I knew that was not true but you know what? That was how she carried herself. I watched her closely and after that discovered some great attributes in her that I decided to emulate which has guided me to where I have found myself today and it all started with changing my mind set and the way I think. Here are a few tips on how it worked for me. 1. Believe in yourself: Ignore any thing negative other people say or think about you, believe you and always remain positive. 2. You can be who you want to be: The power of your thought is a mighty power that can help you shape your life. Even if the idea seems strange, give it a try, you have nothing to lose but only to gain. 3. Always be Positive: Positive thinking is a way of life, it will make you experience pleasant and happy feelings, you will look bright and happy always. Visualize only favorable and beneficial situations, always use positive words and ignore negative thoughts. Adopt the attitude of positive thinking, focus on the bright side of life and expect positive results. 4. Power of positive association: Positive or negative thinking are contagious, we affect and are affected by the people we meet in one way or the other through words, thoughts, feelings and body language. People are more disposed to help us if we are positive. 5. Never give up be persistent Keep pushing and be positive no matter how long. It takes it will happen. Keep looking only at the beneficial good and happy thoughts of the expected results. 6. Keep positive mentors, learn from them. 7. Prayer: Be hopeful, have faith and pray. http://biempowerment.com/2016/04/25/can-think-can/

Jobs/Vacancies / How Social Media Can Help (or Hurt) You In Your Job Search by BISolutionsng: 3:48pm On Apr 26, 2016 |
www.biempowerment.com #WeLoveGraduates #WeEmpowerYouths How Social Media Can Help (Or Hurt) You In Your Job Search Social media is a key player in the job search process today. Sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+ allow employers to get a glimpse of who you are outside the confines of a résumé, cover letter, or interview—while they offer job seekers the opportunity to learn about companies they’re interested in; connect with current and former employees; and hear about job openings instantaneously, among other things. That’s probably why half of all job seekers are active on social networking sites on a daily basis, and more than a third of all employers utilize these sites in their hiring process. The information you provide online about your job background and accomplishments should also be consistent. Don’t assume an employer will only be checking you out on LinkedIn. They may also check Facebook, or even Twitter and Google+. The story you tell on each site should be pretty much the same, although it’s fine to adapt the material for the site. The good news is that HR managers aren’t just screening your social media profiles to dig up dirt; they’re also looking for information that could possibly give you an advantage. Others chose to hire because the profile conveyed a professional image. In some instances it was because background information supported professional qualifications, other people posted great references about the candidate, or because the profile showed that the job seeker is creative, well-rounded, or has great communication skills. This means the job seekers shouldn’t just focus on hiding or removing inappropriate content; they should work on building strong social networks and creating online profiles that do a really good job of representing their skills and experience in the workplace. Job seekers who are silent or invisible online may be at a disadvantage. They need to engage on social networking sites to increase their visibility and searchability with prospective employers.

Jobs/Vacancies / Your Resume Is Your Ad by BISolutionsng: 12:03pm On Apr 25, 2016 |
www.biempowerment.com #WeLoveGraduates #WeEmpowerYouths Your Resume Is Your Ad You hear it all the time, "Your resume is a marketing tool." In order to meet a buyer's need for a product or service you must understand what they consider to be important and what positive end results the customer will get from using the product/service. So how does any of this apply to a resume? You are the product! You are selling yourself. Let's apply these tips to the objective and employment history sections of the resume. The Objective In this short paragraph, you must convey what you can do for the company. Not only does this let the manager know I can benefit him/her, but also his customers. Focusing on what results you can provide to both the company and their clients is an excellent way to get the attention of anyone looking to hire. Employment History What you usually find in the next section of a resume is the employment history. But what do you find happens in the actual interview? The manager is asking questions about what you did, not what your title was. Instead of listing your title and responsibilities under each employer, insert a list of past successes. This is where you turn features into benefits. If possible, try to focus the success statements toward things relevant to the company with which you wish to interview. Simply list two or three under each employer along with your title and the dates you worked at each company. Finally, never - ever - mail your resume without a cover letter. You might choose to mention, "My resume provides reference to multiple successes I've had with press campaigns. I will be pleased to provide more detailed information during our interview." This type statement is an excellent way to inform your prospect that your resume is just the tip of the iceberg. Presentation is also a plus. When you sit down to write, just remember: keep your target audience in mind during the entire creation process, provide a benefits-oriented objective and list your past successes. When you do, you are well on your way to scheduling interviews and landing that new job! 1 Like

Jobs/Vacancies / Ways To Find The Answer To "What Should I Do With My Life?" by BISolutionsng: 4:49pm On Apr 24, 2016 |
www.biempowerment.com #WeLoveGraduates #WeEmpowerYouths Ways to Find the Answer to "What Should I Do With My Life?" The good news is, you’re not alone—in fact, I’ll guarantee that everyone has pondered it at some point. 1. Talk to People You’d be surprised at how much you can learn just listening to other people talk. OK, yes, sometimes you might not learn much more than how badly traffic was backed up during rush hour. But other times, if you listen (and listen between the lines), you’ll get insight into people’s motivations, hopes, dreams, and ambitions. And when you piece all that together, you can learn how others got to where they are today—and if that’s a path you want to be on, too. 2. Get Started Regardless of what you generally want to do, it never hurts to start building something. Really anything. There are so many things you can do for your career—even if you don’t know what you want to do. And, just like the previous advice, the actual act of simply doing will help further clarify what paths you might want to be on, and which ones you should rule out. 3. Gather Inspiration From Others No matter what you do, you probably want to be successful at it. So what better way to get started than by learning how others reached their goals? Keep in mind as you’re reading that these people weren’t born knowing what they wanted to do either. 4. Prepare for a Long Journey One huge misconception about figuring out what you want to do with your life is that you will have a sudden, magical moment of extreme clarity and then have your entire life planned. In actuality, lives shift constantly, and you’ll need to regroup and reconsider your journey as you go along. So instead of being surprised when you have to make new decisions, anticipate them, and dare I say it, be excited for them. 5. Leave Your Comfort Zone Maybe you don’t know what you want to do because you haven’t tried what you’re meant to do yet. And you won’t know if that is true or not until you get out there and start ruling things out. 6. Be Okay With Failing Nothing will slow you down more in your quest to figure out what to do with your life more than being afraid of failure. Yes, you’ve heard this before—but that’s because it’s true. You won’t ever be able to nail down what makes you happy if you rule everything out because it sounds hard. 7. Enjoy Not Knowing You know how math problems always seem impossible when you first look at them, but then, after taking a break, the answer feels so obvious? Figuring out what you want to do with your life is kind of like that. Feel better about not knowing what you want to do with your life? Just remember that you don’t have to have it all figured out. And that even when you do, you might change course a few times. So don’t worry about having all the answers—just thinking about it is a good start.

Jobs/Vacancies / 5 Ways You Can Find Success At Any Job by BISolutionsng: 9:19pm On Apr 23, 2016 |
www.biempowerment.com #WeLoveGraduates #WeEmpowerYouths 5 Ways You Can Find Success at Any Job 1. Dream Jobs Are Dreams The trick is not necessarily following your dream, but finding out what kind of work will actually be fulfilling to you. By looking at it this way, you’re opening up lots of options. 2. Lower Your Expectations We’re not advising you to accept poor working conditions or bad treatment. But take a look at your situation and ask yourself if you’re waiting for your dream job to come along, or if you can find something worthwhile in your current position. If you keep pining for a job that’ll fulfill everything you want in a career, you’re never going to find it. 3. Take the Road Less Traveled Don’t take yourself or what you thought you would be doing so seriously. Be willing to be flexible with your vision. Look around, See where everyone is going. If you go the opposite direction, you increase your odds of finding an opportunity. 4. Know Your Value—Even if Others Don’t You need to realize and appreciate your own contributions. You have a unique talent and are serving a purpose in your position within your company—and it’s up to you to connect with that, even when you feel unrecognized. 5. Do Your Best (No, Really, Do Your Best) The real secret of success is that there is no secret. But the people who truly embrace it and take responsibility for their actions and take responsibility for their performance are the ones who get the opportunities and are the ones who will succeed. http://biempowerment.com/2016/04/22/a/

Celebrities / My Journey So Far..an Ex Drug Addict Tega Omugor Tells Her Story by BISolutionsng: 11:18am On Apr 21, 2016 |
http://biempowerment.com/2016/04/21/journey-far-ex-addict-tega-omugor-tells-story/ #WeLoveGraduates #WeEmpowerYouths I was reading an article on the effects of smoking and taking in harmful substances and I can only be grateful to God I don't have any of those. I was an extremely intelligent girl in school, my teachers and family would say I was a gifted child. The sky wasn't even my stepping stone at the rate my brain functioned. At the time I wrote National Common Entrance I was number three in the whole nation and my parents actually expected more because they knew what God had bestowed upon me. When I got into secondary school, I was still doing well but I had become a 'gucci girl'( a clique in school) We were among the funky/cool/popular ones. In most sets, there's always that clique. We hung out together, partied a lot and became very unserious with my academics. By the time I was leaving school with all my truancy and misbehavior I nicely got 4Ps and 4Fs. That could never get me into any institution. Before then, I went for the holidays in Kano to stay with my older sister and so when I heard my result was out, I bluntly refused to return to lagos because I knew my oldest sister who had slaved to send me through school will reset my brain with a few strokes of the cane. So somehow I read and wrote my exams again and passed. Then I mixed with a few friends. I got curious about cigarette smoking and then I became worse than the people I learnt from. I have always been a happy person, so partying was inevitable. I got into drinking as well, and then heavy drinking. I stopped going to class mainly because I was either tired from partying hard all night or hung over from excessive alcohol. Inevitably I dropped out of the first university. I remember a time where I woke up in the morning on the street with the sun shinning so bright over my head. I somehow gathered myself and went to another university where I finally managed to graduate... http://biempowerment.com/2016/04/21/journey-far-ex-addict-tega-omugor-tells-story/

Career / How To Answer “what Is Your Greatest Weakness?” by BISolutionsng: 12:23pm On Apr 20, 2016 |
http://biempowerment.com/2016/04/20/answer-greatest-weakness-2/ #WeLoveGraduates #WeEmpowerYouths How to Answer “What Is Your Greatest Weakness?” “What’s your greatest weakness?” is the question that no one ever quite knows how to prepare to answer. This single question has the power to determine in one swift blow whether you are a potential asset or a liability to a prospective employer. Answering the Question Let’s take a look at what we don’t ever want to say first, and why. Never, never, never choose a weakness that demonstrates your inappropriateness for the job: The "Strength in Disguise" Weakness What do I mean by a "weakness that is really a strength in disguise"? Let me give you examples of such "weaknesses": A. People Pleaser: “It’s important to me that everyone gets along in the workplace. In the past I have always gone the extra mile to help out whenever it is necessary in trying not to disappoint or let anyone down." B. Workaholic: “In taking things to extremes, I have found that it is easy to get burned out by not balancing my time very well. I now however have a Day Planner to better organize and schedule my time, making sure I achieve a balance so that I can still be a valuable player.” C. Self Critic: “I feel that my greatest weakness is that I am very critical of my own work. I have always prided myself on producing excellent and error-free work. While this is beneficial to my job performance, it is possible to go to extremes. I have also found that I can easily waste time checking and rechecking.” D. New Graduate or Entry-Level without any experience: “Some people would consider the fact that I have never worked in this field before as a weakness. However, being highly trainable and open minded, I have no pre-conceived notions on how to perform my job. Working with your organization will give me the opportunity to learn the job the way you want it done, not the way I believe it is done. In addition, although I have no former on-the-job experience, I do bring with me extensive hands-on training and experience which can only enhance my ability to learn extremely quickly.” Bottom Line Regardless of what strategy you use, your ultimate goal is to present a real weakness that does not damage your potential for the position but also does not come across as unrealistic or staged. If you are not sure if you are picking a negative weakness, review the criteria for the position and put yourself in the shoes of the employer to consider what you would like to hear and what you would think was negative. Take time to practice difficult answers like this with a partner until you feel comfortable so that you will sound natural and confident in the interview. www.biempowerment.com 1 Like
