if you ask me to be honest , I wasn't concerned about putting smile on anybody's face cos in an attempt at doing that, another person is feeling sad. So, essence to me was that we all were playing mock politics; Naija style. It felt surreal so that you can actually feel what it feels like to be a Nigerian politician; everybody was truely selfish grin. I offered to send a tipping over because I was elated u guys played that game so well you came out victorious. Perfect mockery of Naija politicking!. That reminds Laveda, dou operate a GTB acct ? Turning heads and jutting mouths could be for any reason. Like you have really pretty face despite having your body covered. Or you could be dressed in niqab, but you're unbelievably fat, like 300kgs. Or you could have something covering your body totally but it's a very bright color.

It's not up to a woman to read everyone's minds and dress according to a bunch of strangers unknown minds. It is up to men to control themselves.
The way you feign ignorance at full blown oddity amuses me I must confess, Keep it up! wink And don't forget to dress up well so that people won't start mistaking u for a woman who's got few bolts unknotted against their will up there.

Women should try to shield up? Make themselves less inviting?

I just got finished telling you women get raped no matter what they wear. Women that wear full niqab etc. still get raped.

Excuse me if I don't subscribe to your backward views. You can have your views, I'm keeping mine.

And I'm not am islamophobe - I am an extremophobe. Extremism in any matter is dangerous, religious and otherwise.
If preaching the gospel of dressing moderately ( not necessarily the Islamic way) is extremism to you then I think u deserve a whole ward to yourself at the psychiatric hospital.

Bolded is my point - you have illustrated that women are seen as property and not humans.

I was spat on, for not covering my face. As I said. Maybe that was "crossing a boundary" because I'm not protecting myself adequately from rape and dishonour?

I pose it to you that women shouldn't bear this unfairness. That men should stop raping, rather than womenhaving to constantly defend themselves against it. That men should be blamed for rape, rather than blaming women for failing to adequately protect themselves from it.

And in addition, that women should not be seen as dishonoured for being raped. That the dishonour should lie 100% squarely on the man/men who raped her.

For your second point: dignity and modesty lies in the eyes of the beholder. As I said before, there is no way a woman can dress that will live up to the different moral standards of each different man. So she may as well dress the way she wants... because she deserves happiness and comfort and the freedom to express herself WITHOUT JUDGEMENT.
1. You were not spat on because you weren't covering your face! I got a friend there whose wife doesn't wear the 'niqab' ; apparel that covers the face. So, stop telling me about a lie u read in a book written by some bloody Islamophobia!

2. Rape is a disease of a perverted mind that is not visible to the human eye or even to a microscope, so, If Saudi govt is making laws aimed at quarantining the vulnerable (women) against these diseased, then I don't see any reason why we shouldn't be singing their praises of being sensitive . Yes stigmatizing rape victims any day anytime is a bad habit. Personally, I have a principle that frowns at mocking others unless on an objective inclined motive . That said, women should at least try to always shield up and make emselves less inviting to the vicious, diseased and perverted minds, That's why the old saying you're addressed by the way you're dressed is there to feed on. First impression matters most of the time ykno?

Who told u that lie? You're just there missus, more reason why you have to do yourself the favor of pegging down that butterfly pride inside of your head so that you can reason straight with that big head. If reasoning straight and seeing the opulence and class in modest dressing is too much for u to grab after that, then, keep up with the disturbing apparels. Just know that the price for a stubborn goat na korekt baton. grin

My point is that no matter what women wear, they still get raped and disrespected.

When I was in Saudi, I was spat on for not covering my face. They have extreme rules when it comes to women's permission to lead life. Driving, going out, being in male company etc. [s]because women aren't seen to be worthy of respect and autonomy.[/s] This exists in a lot of countries, but Saudi was just my example.

Women get raped everywhere! Everywhere! Regardless of what they are wearing.

If women were all covered up amd wore the same clothes, people would find reasons OTHER than their clothes to disrespect them.

That was my point.
All those rules that seemed extreme to you are in place to PROTECT their women. However stringent those rules may seem , that society still a relatively happy and tension subdued; That's essence to me!

You talk about being spat at in the face and I tell u that's a very big fat lie! If u didn't cross some boundaries no fukcing body will humiliate ya like that.

Yes, rape happens everywhere cos there are assholes everywhere, but when you're to measure the success level of Saudi against other places where morality has been fed to the dogs, the difference is clear! ... I mean, whats bad is bad, we should not rid the apparel its function of protection of human dignity just because we wanna preach the gospel of freedom! They two different things!!

I do. I've been there and I read a lot, honey. What exactly is wrong with my point?
Every single thing, the concept and the approach. . . Im concerned about the Arabia ish tho...S.Arabia to a great extent is free from sexual immoralities when compared to neighboring West. It is literally free from it. When u talked about women abuse, what dya meanhuh, the fact that women ain't allowed to ride cars is the only shiit u might probably have on em! If ur rape allegation were to be hurled at India, I might still say well, right. But S.Arabia? No, No.

exactly glad you totally get what am trying to say, shes comfortable in it even if it calls her slut, dont force her to take it off, you're not the one the cloth is condemning and I've met alot of girls who dress indecently but inside there are good people even better than some people who dress fine, so don't judge a book by its cover.
So, we should just throw caution and modesty to the winds and leave the naive youths to continue razing in craze?

Oh come on.

If it wasn't the way women dress you'd be finding anothet reason to disrespect women.

[s]Look at what happens in Saudi Arabia. Women there cover up in bed sheets and still get raped. Women are wholly disrespected for no explicable reason.[/s]

Once upon a time, swimsuits for women were head-to-toe because knees were considered rude and offensive.

Now it's individuals who determine what offends them, a knee or a breast or what. So it's impossible for women to dress to please everyone and earn their respect.

Maybe treat every woman as an individual and don't go painting all of them with the same brush, look inside instead of at the clothes.

How would you like it if someone judged your ENTIRE character by your clothing choice?
Don't bite off more than u can chew. You don't know shiits about S.Arabia. The way you pull stories out of your sorry ass just to make flimsy points should be checked.

AsmauDanjuma:
While you've made a good point, I stand my ground. I mentioned greed as the bane of our existence because if you make a comparative analysis of Africa and the West, you'll see that there's really nothing stopping us from being one of the world's super powers. All we need to do is embark on aggressive industrialization, petroleum refinement (since our economy is hinged on oil), consider other viable options e.g agric, develop our transportation system and encourage the growth of science and technology. People talk about developing Nigeria like its one Herculean task, but its really not. We are our own worst enemies. The reason why Nigeria does not refine enough oil to cater for the entire country and can't provide constant power supply is because certain 'big men' sabotage any such attempt, because they don't want to lose their source of income. Business moguls who make billions importing generators/selling diesel break out in a cold sweat at the mention of constant power supply, so do oil magnates who make billions from ensuring they blow up our local refineries so they can continue their devilish partnerships with foreign oil firms.
We have everything it takes, much more than other countries have. So ask yourself, why exactly are we still so backward? Is it really because we're lagging behind in science and technology, because money can't procure whatever we can't build? Or we lack the skills to develop industries and put structures in place to grow our economy, because we can't hire experts. My brother we have the money (and the ability to make more) the problem is that instead of spending it on things that would make us grow, some animals choose to pocket everything for themselves. That is why the US is where it is today, not because God came down from heaven to guide them, but because they were able to set aside personal gains for national interest. Most of us are religious hypocrites, who hide behind the cover of religion for selfish gain.
You are stating the apparent but that's not what the problem really is.

1. In every economy of the world there are always big men who are bloody gluttons, there are called capitalists , but I like to refer to them as opportunists. In the US, racketeering and tax evasion is common among these set of folks , they owe the state so much. Running into billions of dollars FYI. So it is in the west.

2. You also talked about where US is today, US is way bigger than Nigeria in all ramifications. Size, Population, Economy even natural resources and history (theyve gone throug shiiits). Our major selling point in Nigeria is around the SS which has once been regarded as the most fertile spot on earth, The Niger Delta region alone has mouthwatering varieties of fisheries resources and extremely fertile farmland supporting diverse types of cash and food crops but that's history now because of the oil, but we all know how useless and intimidating the price of oil is now ...

We could have harnessed all of our resources you might wanna argue but we could've given it a shot! If not for the faulty political makeup that allows for easy tampering with resources, government policies open to exploitation and control by fukcing Europeans and other suckers (opportunists), benefits of communism or if u like democracy would have been fully tapped . We allowed ourselves to be divided and ruled even after independence. An average Hausa man and Igbo man/Delta don't really like themselves, Yoruba man dey see Igbo man as a stranger that wants to dominate over his own Lagos, he wants to own every stall, every house, everything he complains. So, the thing is we have not been able to evolve into true Nigerians. We are still stuck at being bloody tribalists, never nationals. So, every tribe is looking after his own pocket of benefits, he is looking for ways to get his own sons and daughters into position of authorities and keep his relatives in the corridors of power. All these greedy tendencies are human, hence normal . What needs to be restructured is the power structure. There is too much power in the central! Give the states more power and resources and see how magical the turn of events will be. Look at Lagos state for instance, it is taking care of itself despite the peanut from the central government ; its got money from the revenues however little from industries and teeming population.

How do states who are naturally less endowed/ opportune now thrive
1. commercial and economic prosperity is never static, it spreads.
2. Government at the centre while exercising its oversight function can pump most of the resources it derives from the already thriving states for these ones to meet up without having to see the red eye of those being exploited.

Its not an herculean task as you've stated but the real issue is not also the greed my dear; what you see is not always what it is.
