▪Gives FG seven days ultimatum to return the funds diverted by the immediate past Governor

Rivers State Governor has given the Federal Government an ultimatum of 7 days to return the $43million dollars found in a luxury apartment in Ikoyi to the Rivers State Government , failure which the State Government will take legal measures to ensure that it gets back her stolen resources

Governor Wike also declared that the $43million dollars found in the luxury apartment in Ikoyi belongs to the Rivers State Government.

Governor Wike said that investigations by the Rivers State Government revealed that the money was proceed from the sale of gas turbines by the immediate past Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

Addressing journalists at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday night, Governor Wike said: "The money in question belongs to the former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. We want to confirm that the houses in Ikoyi also belong to Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

"If you recollect in 2015, we said that gas turbines built by Former Governor Peter Odili were sold to Sahara Energy, business partners of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi at $319million.

"That money was used to sponsor the All Progressives Congress for the 2015 general elections. From the date of sale of the gas turbines to May 29, 2015, the money depleted from $319million to $204,000 . What was stashed at the Ikoyi residence was part of that fund".

He said : "We have facts to prove that the said money belongs to the Rivers State Government. The Federal Government must return our money".

Governor Wike said all the stories being peddled about the money belonging to the National Intelligence Agency are false and mere face saving measures by the embattled APC Federal Government.

He said: "As I speak to you, the Federal Government is so embarrassed that this has happened. All the stories that the money belongs to the NIA are fake".

Governor Wike challenged the Federal Government to set up a panel of Inquiry , which will sit publicly to investigate the money, if it doubted the claim of the Rivers State Government.

He stated that the Rivers State Government needs the money to complete an array of projects, insisting that on no account would this criminal activity be swept under the carpet.

The governor said as long as the Federal Government continues to disturb the progress of Rivers State, so long will God throw the Federal Government into confusion.

"We are giving them seven days to return our money. Otherwise, we would take legal action to recover our money. $43million will help us complete several projects. We need that money for projects", he said.

Na that day I mad for the rules sha, HOT sun oooo and for person to drink water inside I'm car na offence, shuuu....it wasn't even as if the car was on speed gan. he was approaching a crowded area & so was doing prolly 20km/hr yet he was arrested coz he was drinking and driving.....fear these guys o, dem no get joy

NIA operations are strictly outside Nigerian Borders and can occur at the spur of the moment.
Eg, what if credible intelligence shows that a dozen Al Shabab terrorists enroute to Nigeria were found in a safe house in Ndjamena Chad?
If the DG despatches operatives to go and sort out that problem, then the agents should wait until banks open for operations or for mallams to change Naira to dollars for them?

The naira recorded a gain against the United States dollar on the parallel market on Tuesday, a day after the Central Bank of Nigeria injected $240m into the foreign exchange market.

The local unit rose from 395/dollar on Monday to 390/dollar on Tuesday as the new forex supply weighed on the market.

The CBN had on Monday released the sum of $90m to meet requests for invisibles such as business travel and personal travel allowances, medical and school fees.

The apex bank also offered a total of $150m to authorised foreign exchange dealers in the interbank wholesale auction window same day.

The development brought to $240m the total amount of forex released by the regulator on Monday.

The regulator also adjusted the sale day of forex to Bureau De Change operators to Tuesdays only to reduce logistical difficulties.

As a result, the central bank would sell $10,000 only to low-end forex dealers once a week, instead of $8000 a week previously.

Economic and financial analysts said the spate of interventions and dollar supply by the central bank would determine the direction of the naira in the coming weeks.

On the back of the previous forex supply by the CBN, the naira had appreciated to 375/dollar early last week.

The local currency, however, weakened to 383/dollar on Thursday before dropping to 390/dollar on Friday.

“The latest dollar injection is yet to fully percolate into the forex market; when that happens, the naira will appreciate further,” a currency analyst at Ecobank Nigeria, Mr. Kunle Ezun, said.

The naira closed at 306.25 to the dollar on Tuesday at the interbank market, compared with 306.30 the previous day.

Meanwhile, the CBN said on Tuesday it would offer dollar forwards to be delivered within two months to offset a backlog of matured foreign exchange obligations to manufacturers, airlines, fuel importers and agriculture businesses.

“Authorised dealers’ accounts with the central bank will be debited in full for the naira equivalent of the dollar bid amount on a spot basis,” the bank said in a notice to commercial lenders.

“The central bank will settle the bids through forward settlements of two months,” the CBN added without specifying the amount of dollars to be sold.
