Yes, I agree the Nigeria deal is high, but what about the ammunition Nigeria is getting? I think it all plays a part in the cost.

That should have been the case but looking at a unit cost as compared to that of Ghana shows that ours is expensive. At the same time @rka2' explanation is understandable. Ehm... Ehm... Ehm, clears throat and in a low voice, but you ma know say man must chop grin

I think it may have something to do with the variant you buy and modifications you request. A unit cost is between $9-$18 plus whatever modifications. Nigeria likes to have modifications when they buy new equipment to suit their requirements. Even the VT4 tanks we bought from China they said NA requested modifications to suit our theatre.

OK. This explanation gives a better understanding. Thanks.

Nigeria did not pay $600m for 12 A-29.

Nigeria purchased 12 super tucano for 329 million dollars, 496 million dollars when you add infrastructure, training of 100 personnel, ammunition and ISR capabilities.

https://www.defense.gov/Newsroom/Contracts/Contract/Article/1700404/

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.channelstv.com/2018/04/26/496m-aircraft-purchase-senators-call-for-buharis-impeachment/amp/

If true that Ghana bought 9 for 88million dollars then 12 should translate to 117.3 million dollars. There is something about this Tucano deal that's fishy, more so the delivery date.

Is there any incidence in Baga today? The Soldiers here were speaking in Hausa language.

They are BH, run for your life. You work for an NGO and you don't have a smattering for the spoken language there. It's almost suicidal. What if they are discussing how to kidnap you as you will fetch a lot of NGO money angry

P. S Thought you said Baga is amongst the LGA held by BH? I'm beginning to look at you one kind, one kind.

Bros, it's not a matter of playing too much video games or movies. That video was appalling. You'd mistaken them for a militia. Even the general is too sub-par to be a general. Tears rolled down my cheeks watching that video.. my daughter was like "daddy what's wrong" I just looked at her and burst out crying the more.

I agreed with you that there was no coordination. These one's are no special forces. Have you seen movies from the civil war - Liberia - Sierra Leone? They are almost like this. Have you seen movies of the US army which is always the bench mark from Korea - Vietnam - Grenada - Panama - Afghanistan? Iraq/Iran war. My message is that war is always chaotic, it's not an opera. In Afghanistan, some of the videos that I've seen are chaotic. When it gets too hot and it does most times, they call for air cover. The Nigeria Army could do better, but it's not good to ALWAYS bash them, seeing that even the best with billions of dollars weaponry gets into situations like this.

Agree that the military was not coordinated in that video. I agree that they will need retraining cos their tactics seem to be caught up in a time warp of the 60's.My observation from some posts is that too much war movies and video games have done some people no good. In a situation where opposing sides are almost at par, there's hardly any coordination. It has happened many times with the US army and their saving grace most times is calling for air cover. I'm not holding any brief for the military, the buck is on the table of past and present military chiefs. They are still failing these boys.

Whether he announces it or does not announce it, it's of little signifance.

All reports irrespective of where you stand talk of a complete uprooting of Boko in the Chad axis.

Multiple reports of Boko fighters in multiple locations fleeing to the relative safety of Nigeria for them.

It's a nonsensical approach, what are you announcing warn the enemy before you hit him, that's ludicrous. We know where the enemy is GET THE JOB DONE. For me it's unnecessary.

You don't win wars on TV but the battlefield Nigerian need no more talk but ACTION.

The NA is short on training. They need a reorientation in ConOps and OrBatt. I've emphasised this over and over again. Some times, it's not the absence or presence of equipment that determines engagements but technique vis-a-vis your response. As an e-warrior cheesy, one of the things I noticed from that short clip is that they know the direction where they are being shot at, why are they not responding towards that direction? I would also want to say that this doesn't look like an ambush but possibly a sneak attack. Mehn! It's not easy at all sha.

A video on twitter shows the new hardware from China on their way to the North East on the Kano /Maiduguri Road.

48 hrs is too much na. 48 min should be the maximum time they need. You shouldn't blame him though, officers in the Nigerian army can exaggerate too. The fist objective was realized? Does that mean there's no longer Al Qaeda in Afghanistan? If the Talibans were indeed removed, where did the new crop come from?

The longer the US stayed in Afghanistan the longer they realized the war was unwinnable by conventional means. They could kill 10,000 Taliban for every one of their soldiers, but death and dying does not really matter to the Talibs. The Talibans take a long view of things. War is their profession and they go to war not necessarily to win, but to exhaust and outlast the enemy.

The Vietcong and the North Vietnamese did it and the Talibans did the same thing. In both cases, victory was not by conventional means. You just have to wait for your enemy to get tired and you can then get everything you want.

Tell me something. Is the world safer since the US invaded Afghanistan? Is it safer since they went into Iraq and created ISIS? Is it safer since they helped overthrow Gadaffi? The more they invade the more enemies they create and the more people flock in from all over to fight them. They seem unable to realize that.

Before the US invasion, Taliban was fully entrenched in Kabul and governing Afghanistan with shari'a law. Now they are in caves between Pakistan with Afghanistan. Bin Laden is dead, Zawahiri his deputy remains alive and he continues to issue statements from his hideout in Pakistan, but the core is defeated. Bin Laden’s son and potential heir, Hamza, who was described as "lion from the den" by Zawahiri, was killed sometime last year,he was widely seen as the emerging leader of al-Qaeda. As I've initially written, the core mission was to kill bin Laden /remove al-Qaeda /remove Taliban. All were achieved, but in time the objective shifted to stabilising Afghanistan, which resulted in the US being in this current quagmire. I will want you to note that it's possible if top al-Qaeda leadership were apprehended within weeks or months after 9/11, US forces would've withdrawn from Afghanistan, especially as the Bush administration prepared for war against Iraq.
P. S. The world has never been safe before and after now, the insecurity is now closer home that's why you feel it was safer before.

Lol. It has never ever been about peace and prosperity. During the Arab Spring, we heard not a peep from the US when protests were taking place in Saudi Arabia and other strong monarchical countries. What were the protesters asking for? Democracy and an end to monumental corruption.

Now, the US is supposed to be the champion of democracy in the world, so why did it keep silent when it could have enabled democratic change in the Middle East? Answer- it currently has control over the monarchical governments in power there and a democratic government might not be so friendly to it.

This same democracy loving America had the democratic Iranian government replaced by the Shah cos he was about to nationalize their oil industry. The shah was hated and corrupt, but that didn't stop America from giving him their full support and throwing open their arsenal for the Shah to buy any weaponry he wanted. He bought F-14s and more.

America so loved democracy and prosperity that it provided the means for evil governments everywhere on the globe from Latin America to Africa to stay in power and murder hundreds and millions of their citizens. They supported people like Mobutu, Saddam, the South African apartheid regime and provided training and weaponry to Latin American death squads that killed raped, murdered and maimed without mercy.

There is no nobility about the US in the least. They have always been driven by money and their self interest. That is why the are and will always be the Great Satan.

I've often said that the US is a parasite on the whole world, but which ever way you look at it there's always a balancing act. If interested read, Games Nations Play by John W. Spanier. Countries go along together if their interests align, which also translates to "no permanent friendship but permanent interest".

Lol. I am sure the US is currently in Syria and Iraq because they want stability and prosperity in those countries. All the oil there is of course not a strong motivating factor.

Going by your own deduction the US are in Afghanistan cos of the lucrative opium trade. Iraq and Syria are a different ball game.

Laughable grin grin

Let me simplify my post.
1. Initial objective was to destroy al-Qaeda and remove Taliban.
2. The longer the US stayed in Afghanistan, the mission evolved /shifted into building a post Taliban Afghan state in which a road map was conceived by the international community, led by the US and Afghan leaders.
The first objective was immediately realised.
The second is implausible. The Taliban are still operating in the borders between Afghanistan and Pakistan and will resurge as the US draws down it's troop numbers.
