lol, regardless of which it is, wrong is wrong... a guy like that shouldn't be in uniform or any capacity in Govt serving people. (if what's written there is true that is)

I agree with you and BabaOwen absolutely that he's wrong. My message is him reporting to that same institution he has so much disparaged. It means there's an iota of hope in him to still believe that they could right that wrong and to that extent, a li'l hope for Nigeria.

The Nigerian army should do something about this guy.

Lol.The same Nigerian army that you have disparaged several times.Reporting it here will not serve your purpose, here is not a military barrack, take it to the police station.

P.S. How about if it was I hate Fulani or Igbo?

Lol. When you asked can you spot the difference? All I did see is the grill on the front of the first vehicle is absent on the second, and also the lamp on the second vehicle is absent on the first. But how the heck do you expect someone to notice the exhaust underneath the vehicle.

Henry240:

Difference number 1

-The Vehicle in the first picture has it's exhaust underneath the vehicle.
While the vehicle in the second picture has it's exhaust pipe by the side.

Difference number 2

- The storage compartments and and the steps on vehicle in the first picture are large, very large

- The storage compartment and steps on the second vehicle are have been streamlined.

Those are the key differences.

Oga sir, everything is a process ; there were times past when musicians were held liable for their lyrics in the USA, even people that sell these cd's where also held liable for the promotion of obscene content.Ve u ever heard of 2 live crew and NWA? Read about their arrests and court cases. So, like I said early, Nigeria is a process, even the US too.

Sizzorkay:
Which is where leadership from Lawmakers, Governors, current Nigerian administration, activism had to come into play, the young just need reliable and honest people to look up to, it's all about countering these behaviors with a better narrative. And create enabling environment for these young folks to make a living, why are we surprised there is so much crime, because these kids can't find a job, and some will stray into the abyss , sadly, they are being failed by their country

I doubt if there was any conscription on the federal side during the Civil War, atleast I've never seen anything like that. There were people that came up to be selected to fight though.
QuietMynd:

Oga, u don't read history o, if u did u wont type such things.
Ask our grandparents, they will surely tell you wat they experience during the civil war.
Some of the generals in the Nigerian army 2day didn't enlist into the force by themselves, some where picked in the beer parlour, viewing center, i have alot of close friends whom have narrated the story of how their father was kidnapped and sent to the army training camp during the war.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by blacKDalia: 9:52am On May 19, 2019
Thanks you wrote some will pick up arms and majority won't, atleast that's a starting point. In the second world War not everybody picked up arms against the invading force, some that viewed them as a liberating force later had to fight for survival. Some of the Jews in conquered territories where neutral until they later got to know the Germans where a real threat to their existence.

Sizzorkay:
To those talking about picking up arms, you need an inspirational leadership for this, this is sorely lacking in Nigeria, who's gonna rally the people to fight for Nigeria? Those thieves with mansions overseas? Because i can assure you that most of them will be out of the country before the first bomb drops.
A neglected population have no incentive to fight for a country with a broken system and Government, won't happen. That's not to same some won't, but most will not.
Nigeria is a fractured country, we aren't Japan, ours is a country full of different ethnic groups, different languages.
And when we talk about wars, someone is talking about someone's mother being raped etc, with what manpower is the invading force gonna do that? They do not have the manpower to takeover all of Nigeria, In fact the rapes and civilian deaths will probably come from fellow Nigerians, not foreign troops.
Same thing with someone saying troops will force civilians to fight, funny, with what manpower are those troops going to round up tens of thousands of civilians, while those same troops are needed on the front lines. Won't happen, in a country where the Govt have no real record of the people within it's borders, or where they even live. Good luck with that.
Not saying war is rosy or there won't be deaths etc, let's just hope it doesn't come to all that, and yes, like we've all said over and over, Nigeria is under-prepared for war with a more powerful adversary
Foreign Affairs / Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by blacKDalia: 8:11pm On May 18, 2019
BabaOwen:
no west/central African country can invade Nigeria. If any part of Nigeria decide to secede and there is a civil war in Nigeria like it happened during the uncivil war during Gowon regime, I will never fight for Nigeria.

I think I might be in the same boat with you,as there are a thousand and one people like you likewise there a thousand and one people that will pick up arms.

Exactly what I've been trying to make people understand. Even the US with their standards messed up big time. Assuming a third world country like "ALMIGHTY ALGERIA" invades and occupies you think you will be safe even If you don't raise a finger?
LTGEN:

If a Country invades you.
You won't be safe..
Your family won't be safe.
This is the likely scenario:
They will take liberties with your Mother.
Your Sister your Aunties.
They will then throw you , your dad and your brothers in Prisons like Abu Ghraib
And young little girls like the American Corporal will pose while you are naked and being tortured..Before you go on your usual anti Nigeria rant think very careful about the Horrors of War.
You haven't survived an occupation, nor have you been in one .
Iraq is a mess because of the US.
Same with Ukraine..
Yemen has gone back to the Stone Ages.
The South Sudan is a careful analysis of everything that could go wrong.
Now you can continue your rant.
Mind you We know who would be the first to run to the other side once the real shooting starts.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by blacKDalia: 3:35pm On May 18, 2019
If the US is invading we do not have a chance though they uphold some kind of UN standards that might make them treat the population nicely (might not always be true). If an African country is invading you won't think of "what Nigeria has ever done for you", you will be thinking of protecting yourself, sisters and mother,if you imagine what they do to conquered countries and their women and by that time the elite that ve messed up the country would have flown out with their family and left you to defend what's left.
BabaOwen:
what has Nigeria done for majority of us that will make majority of Nigerians defend Nigeria?

One thing that most people who resort to insults here don't understand is, most of us are here for the fun of it, ranting here to the point of insulting your fellow citizen(having the same kind of frustration about the army) that the army leadership is incapable or embezzling army finances will not make any difference, rather my advise is write an article on a national daily or better still be a one man protest in Abuja. If you don't know the distance of your place to Abuja use Google calculator.
P. S. Sorry guys if this has been laid to rest. I'm just logging on.
Sizzorkay:
But we can solve this once and for all, let's just rob Algeria, I mean, we already have an inside man, here on nairaland grin grin
People gotta learn to have debates without raising their blood pressure lol, it ain't that complicated. I come here to have fun with my brethren, not get into drama, i don't do crazy.
Ferrari is faster than Lamborghini...... "No it's not, you idiot".
See, that's not how to have a conversation. It's mad childish.
If you think one country is more powerful than another, lay down your case, others will lay down theirs and you compare and contrast lol, why pop a vein over that? Not like na my papa be the President. Sheet
Now moving on.

You keep saying Nigerians this, Nigerians that, thank God you are the only intelligent Nigerian on this thread. I think we would have to advice the C-in-C to appoint you as the new army chief. I bet in 45 minutes BH will be decimated, or would you invite Algeria? I would have loved to reply you with further analysis but like a typical Nigerian nairalander you have resorted to insults.Hold on to your assumptions and enjoy them as much as you want. On a thought I don't see any reason for this discussion. Meanwhile enjoy your stay here.

SupremeCourt:

Get first point, nobody here said Algeria will attack Nigeria. Get that point clear dont twist my words.

Second, Algeria is not 1,000 km away its 550 km from Nigeria at shortest point border to border. I used accurate google distance calculator.

Population does not mean we cannot be defeated, are the 200 million people all soldiers and all armed for war? Israel with population of 3 million defeated combined Arab nations of 100 million and pursued fleeing Egyptian army almost into Cairo. When a stronger country beats you properly you will run, all your population will run to do refugee across border. Did millions of Nigerian not flee to Chad, Cameroon, Niger when Boko Haram pushed out our army? Why is big population not making Boko Haram to stop attacking us in Borno?

What I said is, no wise country will have Nigeria's money $50 billion forex reserve, and be armed with 43 old 1982 t-72 tanks that have been confirmed by NA to fire twice and gun jam stoppage, till enemy enters our base to blow up our tank.

Nigeria should not sleep at ease with 43 useless half expired t-72 tanks 1970s technology and watch Algerian army loaded with some 400 t-62, 400 t-72, 500 t-90, 300 bmpterminator, 10,000 guided anti-tank missiles, iskander ballistic missiles, s-300 sam, bm-smerch, buratino flame-thrower, 1,000, fauchs afv, 1,000 btr and bmp ifvs all with missiles, now German puma ifv, all 550km away from our border.

I decide to leave Algeria's 50 su-30 flankers with some 2,000 missiles and guided bombs out of the discussion, I want the fools to forget that it's there and talk foolish grin

I said what if they decide in future to attack Nigeria (leave the reason to justify war, Yemen never imagined UAE will invade them today). We are just being human to say we cannot tell the future, so are we prepared to defend against Algeria?

Today Algerian constitution that says no foreign military adventure, but it was not in the law until after some years that they made the law, but what if they change that law in 5 years time?

During Nigerian civil war 1967, one side looked like 100% Christian but the other side was like 50% Christian ~50% Muslim. Algeria took sides and sent us squadron of Algerian air force fighter jets to Muslim side of Nigeria against the fully Christian side, I don't know if Algeria gave us pilots, but we had North African Arab pilots flying those Algerian intervention jets, people said the pilots were Egyptian but Algerian look like Egyptians. There is record of Algerian military heavy weapons being sent by Algeria into Nigeria in a war to kill Nigerians/Biafrans. All the fools here saying Algerian massive weapons stock being used against Nigeria is imaginary impossible nonsense idea, those Nigerian fools that don't read to know Nigerian history in detail, they are the real stupid ones here.

Algerians are nowadays uprising on the streets demonstrating against their government, looks on TV like millions in number, of angry educated adults trooped out, who forced Algerian president out of power just weeks ago!

Algerians are now calling for a change of military doctrine, that is what I read days ago that made me say Nigeria should not sleep while this strange Algeria grows very very powerful just 4 hours away from our border 550km away!

Here is the call for new Algerian military doctrine, what if a new government adopts the change below in 5 years time?

"Algeria’s defense doctrine is outdated — better suited to a Cold War-era security environment than to meeting the security challenges the country faces in the early 21st century, it is imperative that Algeria proceed to update its defense doctrine."

The fools liking your comment do not read wide, not many people are smart in Nigeria, most have more mouth than brain, many are too lazy to read wide.

Also the web link says Algeria has broken the rule of no military force abroad many times, and its a NATO international seminar of experts paper I quoted above, I believe them more than you.

"Second problem is continuation of formal adherence to principle of non-intervention when, in practice, it has been breached. There are numerous instances of Algerian military intervention, as when Houari Boumedienne sent troops to Egypt to defend Nasser regime in 1967 and again in 1973. Algerian troops helped to protect West Saharans who fled advancing Moroccan troops in Western Sahara in 1975-1976. Algerian troops have intervened in Tunisia since 2011, with the full agreement of Tunisian political and military leaders, in an effort to combat radical Islamic groups. Algerian troops also intervened in Mali and Libya to protect Algeria’s borders. Algerian forces directly intervened in Libya, awash with weapons since the fall of the Gaddafi regime, following a terrorist attack on the gas field of Tigentourine at In Amenas."

Common sense is not common, especially in this part of the world, just saying our country should be proactive, you will see 20 people shouting no need, that problems will never reach our side! You be God to predict the years coming ahead? Only a fool assumes the future will always bring peace.

Lol. Slow your role brother, Algeria vs Nigeria? No any foreign intervention assuming given clean passage through Niger. Still I tell you it's going to be a big logistical nightmare to them. If they amass at our border for how long can they sustain the intensity. I'm also of the opinion that the Nigerian army is not as it use to be but can the Algerian army project its war machine over a very long distance and sustain it? Logistics, logistics bro. I have a big doubt on that.
SupremeCourt:

Did I say it will be easy for Algeria? They will bastardize Nigerian army for sure, but they don't need to have a clear win or get us to surrender.

The problem is our military collapse means we our economy will collapse, foreign investors will leave, bad image for us world over.

USA didn't defeat Vietnam because Vietnam is a communist nation that sold their souls to USSR and China and received massive weapons supply for free, enough weapons to force USA to stalemate.

If Vietnam had not adopted communism, destroy all churches and mosques (which Nigeria cannot do) USSR China Korea will not have supplied billions of dollars worth of weapons for free. Who will dash Nigeria 200 fighter jets and 1,000 tanks against Invaders?

Iraq had no support like Vietnam and the one million man army with thousands of tanks surrendered to USA. Yes, when your enemy beats you and the blood from your nose fills a bottle of beer, you will surrender to stay alive.

USA could not defeat Afghanistan, but USA used that invasion to cripple Afghan economy to bottom of the gutter, no foreign investors wants to invest in Afghanistan where blood flows like water.

That's what war does when you cannot match your attacker, Algeria will not colonize Nigeria, their invasion and upper hand will crush our economy, foreign investors will leave a country that cannot protect itself talk less of saving foreigners.

Problem with you guys here is all of you except 2 or 3 guys, you all cannot see an issue from a bigger picture, you have narrow point of view, and you don't google things up, then you mostly believe you know what you don't know, you just scratch things on surface and argue blindly, never accepting you are wrong even when clearly proved wrong.

Reason I don't hang around here wasting my time, I only come when I want to play with internet from website to website till I get busy with more reasonable things grin

Oga calm down your blood dey too rush. You think it's easy to project power abi? Ask the USA, one country that's first among equals militarily. Do you know how long it took them to move from Kuwait border to Baghdad? Just logistics and resupply is a big nightmare. You think to move fully equipped heavy armoured division na joke, ask the Soviet Union when they invaded Afghanistan, passing through that desert no be moi moi o! And then when it begins we can also go the way of viet cong
SupremeCourt:

You don't even understand your own video source, Cohen said only Nigeria has decent air force to fly super tucano compared to Nigér Cameroon Chad. He never mentioned Nigerian army that we are discussing now. Then is it f-7 or Cohen's tucano NAF will decently fly to fight Algerian su-30 flanker? NAF cannot even face Chad's mig-29 jets.

Stop arguing emotionally, I put my patriotism under control when danger needs to be called danger.

Nigeria cannot beat Algeria with artillery because Algerian army has many ground to ground iskander ballistic missiles that fly 7 times longer distance than all your 1980 artilleries. They will level NA and our soldiers won't even be seeing them.

If its Egypt we do have a fighting chance and its at this point you need to look at different facets why Nigerians will/will not sign up to fight. How is the general population viewing the war , are they a liberating force or an invading force; how is each region of the country viewing the war i.e the north as muslims might not fight while the south will see this as a war of SURVIVAL.

Just like how I was reading guys arguing on here that Nigerians won't sign up to fight and defend Nigeria if invaded by an external force. Guys it depends on many factors and scenarios.Does Nigeria have any fighting chance? Can the other country PROJECT AND SUSTAIN POWER over a long distance until objective is gained? If it's the US, the answer is no and even the Nigerian govt will jejely acquiesce.

na so person go just dey invite death to his country. The Mullahs of Iran will bring annihilation to that country, if care is not taken. America will just turn them to a heap of radioactive waste. Even the armed forces of Europe combined will not stand havoc America will cause talkless of Iran that Saddam almost overran.

Just wondering why the French army didn't come to the rescue with helicopter gunships or warplanes? African leaders seem to be cursed all they do is to steal to the point of stealing defense budgets simply cos they know there immediate family will not be at conflict areas either as civilians or combatants. What's stops them from fully equipping these men at least to be able to defend themselves and if possible dieing knowing that they fought a good fight and gave the enemy hell. Africa mtcheeew.

I absolutely agree with what you just wrote. As I have elucidated in an earlier post, the problem is that of leadership. Their mentality is still that of a political military man and strategies of the 50's era, just give orders and what ever the outcome, positive or negative we move on. No thinking out of the box, their thoughts are still of Soviet Union during the second world War and communist era PLA in the 50's-90's where they think of mass of people attacking ;just like a war of attrition. I will continue to repeat that the leadership of the Nigerian army past and present are a crop that went into the army for the purpose of finally getting a political appointment (governor, minister during the military era of govt)not for the purpose of love for the profession and patriotism. If they had applied for these purpose of love and patriotism, they wouldn't be enmeshed in the present day politics, they would be more concerned about updating their knowledge about asymmetric warfare and how to upgrade the Nigerian military and also how to win this war within the shortest possible time. That's why you notice that most of the past generals as much as they have kids in the military but they are not serving in the north east. I just wish they could do something good and worthwhile because a life is the same it doesn't matter if it's your kids or someone else's, it doesn't matter if it's a generals or a Lance corporals, it doesn't matter if it's from the north or south, all that matters is that wars need to be fought and survived with minimal casualties. I have cried when I saw school mates pic with RIP on their photos, cried when I heard friends are dead, got emotional even on pictures of people I don't know, all killed at the frontlines, things that could have been avoided possibly. Indeed the labour's of our heroes past shall never be in vain. RIP to the warriors once again
komekn:

When the Allies first went into Afghanistan they met an enemy who had been well dug in and had over 30 years of hardened battle experience against the Russians and others. That did not stop them they adapted.

The British were still using the snatch Landrovers. After a rethink the. MRAP was born.

The problem is two pronged corruption and poor morale in my opinion. Of which the after effect is inadequate infrastructure and poor equipment.

The public expectations on the military are very low in addition there is in-depth ignorance. That's why when we buy 20 second handed if not even third handed T-72s people think it's progress.

When we buy 120 Chinese MRAPs and 40 Reva MRAP's we go Wow !!!. Our peers are Algeria, Egypt and Morocco but our procurement is not up to 10% of our comparative peers, this is TOTAL MISPLACED priority.

In my estimation over 80% of our defence budget has been lost in misappropriation, corruption and outright stealing.

Nigeria has the capacity to buy 1000 assorted armored vehicles, APC's, MRAP's and IFV'S in one go. But we don't instead we were considering buying 12 ( Super Tucano) propeller attack aircraft for $600 million.

These ambushes will continue because of our modus operandi. You are dealing with guys who are ready to die as long as they can take a few of us with them.

Boko is not over equipped the have predominantly light arms and the obligatory RP7's, IED's and a few technicals.

By going around in soft skinned pick-up trucks, open and unarmoured trucks filled with highly and expensively trained combatants doesn't make any sense. In that environment you are like sitting ducks waiting to be plucked off.

And then our belief that thier is greater safety in numbers. Driving through literally a kill- zone in 100 vehicle convoys. You will be ambushed you just don't know exactly when or where. It doesn't take quantum physics to ring on your mobile and or satellite phones to your demented Boko colleagues and say 100 vehicle convoy is coming your way, ambush.

Collaborative informants is not the problem inadequate infrastructure, limited fit for purpose weaponry is the problem.

They like to sit at their places of comfort with their pot bellies and give orders. Another problem I've noticed is the same problem bedeviling the country. Lack of civilian jobs have made people apply for military jobs, not for the love of the military but to be able to fend for themselves. And also don't forget most of the leadership of the present NA probably applied when the military was ruling ;they wanted to be state governors and ministers.

God bless you mate .

Our military chiefs just don't learn from our past mistakes and they seems not to care about those young men that lost there lives daily.

1st pic medical kits saline bottles

2nd pic the army had to tow the vehicle so engines or something else was disabled / destroyed . interesting the windshield wipers r not in their usual position

3rd pic is same vehicle of 2nd pic and has a impact point on the windscreen, bullet ? r the windows bullet proof ?

4th pic the rear door of white car is interesting, looks like sign of burning fire was internal and the flames came out, the bumper damage is interesting maybe it was struck/cornered

overall view

no targeting of the vehicles in general by gunfire

the law enforcement vehicles r disabled and had to be towed for recovery except the white one

on the unfortunate day was it raining hard or very dusty conditions ?

And what's with the 40 day ultimatum to catch/kill Shekau? That sounds like personal aggrandizement because it came at a time when the media space was awash with the C-in-C coming back. He doesn't know he is shooting himself in the foot, the order could have been get Shekau and not giving a time frame;what will happen if they don't do it in 40 days?Nothing. As much as war is a game of death, it is to be foremost fought and survived, its as if we delight in sending this young boys to their death. I wonder why the NA has not made it a point of importance to equip these men with hardwares for protection eg ballistic vests and helmets, survival kits like first aid (bandages, morphine etc) carried by each soldier in a pouch, also pouches to carry enough bullets and magazines, food rations etc. These are small things that I feel the Nigerian people should be able to provide to these selfless warriors. After these things we could begin to talk about state of the art hardwares that are quite expensive. We just need leaders that can take us as far as we can see and when we get there we shall see farther.

I doubt the intelligence part of BH, it's just that we do things haphazardly. Any serious force would know that with the ambush there would be search and rescue and the best way to know where the search and rescue will be coming from is the nearest sizable military formation. BH scouts will be there monitoring activities of the NA. The army went for the search and rescue without a recce unit ahead and they were led into an ambush

Apparently on their way to rescue the hostages, the rescue party got ambushed at 2 different points, either BHTs are getting good intelligence from somebody (snitches) or the abduction was a way to lure troops out to a certain area.
