All these terrorist strikes and bombings are all a product of political machinations. Left alone, religion is supposed to bring man out of the depths of barbaric darkness and promote peace unity and understanding. But when u have poverty + joblesness + plus greedy politicians, its a total recipe for disaster. Especially as these politicians are skilled at confusing the words of the holy books to suit their own personal ulterior purposes. |
well, ok at least his comment shows that he is actually paying attention to what the masses are saying. We only hope he has enough courage to ensure that Nigeria ios respected by the international community. The aviation debacle should serve as a warning signal to the rest of the international community that nigeria is not to be taken for granted. |
From beauty to plasticky! This speaks volumes of very low self esteem |
owobokiri:Em, and when u grant them amnesty, what will be the motivation/force for them to return the funds. They may just give back chicken change, collect the amnesty and continue the loot! The request for amnesty for thieves is the most ludicrous thing that has come out of this govt. Its as if we have babboons for senators. I wonder what Boko Haram is waiting for |
These Boko Haram or whatever they call themselves are fools! They are busy bombing innocent people meanwhile these theives who parade themselves as "senators" are allowed to breathe the same fresh air that well meaning nigerians are breathing! This senator is a big fool and may him and his cohorts be punished for all the evils they have done to this country. I cant even imagine! Amnesty for what?? So we should start giving amnesty to robbers, theives, 419ers etc May the stupid senator perish! |
It should NOT be abolished because apart from being part of our culture, bride price helps to ensure that the man is financially capable of catering for a home (at least in principle). Instead, women should be empowered so that they can get out whenever they feel the relationship in abusive or detrimental to them Also there should be laws against child/forced marriages. And pepertrators should be severely punished. |
Bisijohn:Are u insane?? Isnt it religion that is causing all these problems in d first place? Abi the pple that were bombed didnt pray or fast enough?? Mtscheew Btw, i smell that the west have a hand in all these. Their plan to take over Nigeria, by making it a second iraq is growing into fruition on a daily basis. Because if u consider that the said Boko Haram dont actually have anything they are specifically fighting for other than to commit havok, and MEND is just a front for greedy and selfish thieves, who have lost all sense of integrity or humanity. Surely these people are getting their arms, ammunition and training from somewhere. When you compare this with the trademark action of the west in "securing world peace" it is clear that Naija is headed for even more turbulent waters in the future. I think at this point we need a more radical leader. Some with the technical, military and political know-how. We obviously need a Ghadafi or an Obasanjo! |
erico2k2:I dont understand this your stupid support for an organisation/government that is clearly oppressing you. Are you a donkey or what? What is your business with who controls what in a foreign man's land? Why make up unecessary excuses for them, when they havent even put forward that excuse to your govt? Abi are you an agent for the british government? Until they tie physical shackles on your hands before your two okpolo eyes will open! mtscheeeew! Nonsense!! |
Guk:You are lieing! From your analogy, BA will lose too. It will definitely not be smooth sailing for either countries, otherwise BA will not now be rushing to the negotiation table. What they wanted initially was to create a monopoly for BA, hoping that the nigerian govt will remain mute as usual! But thank God they were wrong, and for once our govt has decided to stand up for us! But obviously, most people like yourself dont ever want to make any sacrifice. Its people like you that are ready to swallow any form of humiliation no matter how horrible, hoping against hope that your exploters will suddenly turn a new leaf! I assure you, they cant try this with any other country. Over the years Nigeria has come to be reckoned internationally as a push-over. We've been constantly bullied over and over again. It is high time we begin to stand up for ourselves. South Africa will not have taken this lightly! |
Claus:Shio, pls o, what planet do you live on? How can u say there is no connection btw immigration and flying airlines? So what happens if you are granted a visa, yet there is not flight to carry you to your destination? What about people importing/ exporting goods? Dont even get me started on the amount of money spent by the govt on the aviation sector. When i called you shortsighted, i didnt mean it as an insult- but obviously you really are not looking at this wholistically. All am saying is when you analyze the entire actions that britain has taken in recent times, even a blind person can see exactly what they are trying to do. Nigerians have simply said they will not play second fiddle this time. The BASA agreement was meant to foster economic as well as diplomatic ties with britain. If they choose to ignore it, we will not beg them. Our retaliation is therefore in order! Gbam! |
Claus:Actually its this your comment that is more shortsighted. For months the british government has been announcing its desire to reduce the amount of nigerians coming into their country, so this recent move should not come as a surprise to anyone. The nigerian govt's position is simple: since u said we should not come into ur country, then pls dont come into ours either. So in other words "to ur tenth o israel"! If our govt had kept quiet, its still shortsighted people like you that would have been screaming that GEJ is a weakling! |
yorke:I think the successive military coups and tyrannical govts ladden with brutality and corruption has placed many nigerians in an atmosphere where every govt move is viewed with suspicion and generally there is lack of confidence in the leadership. As a result, it is usually difficult to see any improvement, however be it minute. That said, if u carefully analyze the recent govt moves in recent times, one thing is clear: there is a genuine desire to move the country out of its deplorable state. For the first time, politics has taken a back seat to ingenuity and resourcefulness in the appointment appointment of cabinet members. The desire to increase our economic potential has intensified. The govt is now focusing more on immediate goals that will bring us out of the depths of poverty: u see this in the genuine desire to provide constant electricity, the reduction of unnecessary govt expenditures, restructuring of our petroleum industry and also the promotion of agriculture as a viable industry for export. Also the government has also shown the desire to reduce unemployment by setting aside funds that can be accessed in this regard. Security measures are also being taken to reduce the incidence of terrorism which has been a blow to the nigerian economy and polity in recent times. Further, there is a more intensified effort to reduce the level of corruption in the country. The govt has also focussed on eradicating illiteracy through the restructuring of the education system as well as creation of new universities. While it is true that we still have a very long way to go, at least we are moving. Rome was not built in a day, and i truly forsee nigeria rising to be the greatest force within the continent. We just need to get our priorities right and focus on whats most important with the limited resources at our disposal. It will also help if fellow Nigerians join hands in developing our society instead of continously seeing evil and impossibilities at every given instance. The difference btw nigerians and south africans (and indeed the rest of the world) is the lack of genuine patrotism and love for country. Stop the continous (and sometimes unnecessary) nagging and complaining, rather focus on how each and every one of us can improve even our remote community. It may just be by assisting in tidying ur environment, or volunteering for cmmunity service, teaching in public schools etc. The truth is that govt alone can never build a society |
oh my God! Finally, this Government is rising up to challenges! Truly breathe of fresh air! GEJ, this is wat we want to be seeing abeg!!! ![]() |
Please stop quoting bible verses, not all of us are christians! That said, i believe curses only work- in the mental psyche of the recipient. Its easy to fall victim and just blame the challemges that life throws at you on a curse, instead of facing it and rising above it. If you bliv u are cursed, then u really will be! But then again, there is the law of karma which says whatever you throw out o the world will inevitably come back to you. |
We will get there eventually, at least there are signs of improvement! |
ATLgal:well said!!! |
It is our culture, there is nothing wrong with frowning at it, just that people also have to be considerate. If someone's right hand is busy, or if the person is a lefty or if the right hand is injured, then people must be tolerant and understanding at that period. In my house, u dare not give my mother anything with ur left hand, otherwise, u go hear am. It is just a sign of disrespect, and has little to do with whether or not u use ur left to wipe ur buttocks. Its just the same way you cant answer an elderly person with "Yes", u must say "Yes sir/ma", Such is our tradition, and i dont see any reason why it should be changed |
hydroking23:Well, while this may be good suggestion theoritically, in practice it is not advisable for the fed govt govt to relinquish control to states, especially at this stage of our democracy. We have had governors in the past that have deployed the vast state resources to the celebration of birthdays, anniversaries, burial ceremonies etc instead of using such wealth for the betterment of the citizens. Therefore, the fed govt must be able to control the states effectively (at least for now), and one on the ways of doing so is thru economic/fiscal control. Governors already enjoy immense political power over the federal govt, to add economic power to them may just be a recipe for disaster. Nigeria needs an effective center that can hold and bind us together, otherwise there it would be better if we all went our separate ways. Besides, u are only referring to ur own state, what about state's that dont produce oil? Are there no nigerians (or even riverians) living there too? Already, oil producing states enjoy more allocation above other states, and in my view i think this is fair. It is left for such states to now utilize the resources they have prudently and in an efficient sustainable way, rather than wasting their limited resources on political/ selfish agendas. Yes i commend the monorail iniciative. But i am very sure there are other ways of securing more revenue. State govts should engage in activities that boost tourism (especially as rivers is along the coast, the govt can take a cue from dubai), agriculture (especially with regards to fishing), education (both formal and informal) as well as production of commercially viable products. To sit down and just be waiting for fed govt allocation is just plain stupidity. Rather, the state govts have to start investing in projects that will yield future gains. Nigeria is one of the most culturally rich nations in the world! Yet the tourism industry there is ridiculously non-existent! There are economies in the world whose major source of income is basically tourism, It is high time we start thinking outside the box. Poverty and unemployment can not simply be wished away, it takes hardwork, dedication and determination! |
If the governors want to change the revenue formula, than there is need to also amend the constitution to ensure and enforce prudence, transparency and fight against corruption. My suggestions? 1. Make periodic publishing of government accounts compulsory 2. Remove governors/political office holder's immunity 3. Empower EFCC and ICPC both financially and politically. They should be more independent 4. Give more independence to state judiciary 5. State must implement revenue generating priojects, rather than sit and be waiting for federal govt allocation : in order words, govt must be more efficient, and start thinking ahead, Fashola leads the way in this regard |
Stupid-ism Bordom-ism Hunger-ism, |
ArQueBusieR:Ridiculous |
The request for "prayer" has little or no effect in changing the present predicament of the force. Why? 1. Not everybody is a christian, and since the "christian god" does not associate himself with "unbelievers", the prayer is therefore useless 2. Any form of change requires dedication to reform, hardwork and sincere desire to inspire positive results, not sitting in the four corners of your room and hoping that somehow all the "bad eggs" in the basket will suddenly turn good. You have to work towards it 3. Am yet to see any positive effect christianity has on the level of corruption in the country. Especially as the pastors, prophets and priests are the most corrupt themselves. Imagine a so called "man of God" owning 4 private jets, yet some people can barely afford to survive within his congregation. Na real servant of god be dat? 4. How exactly does the "prayer" work? Does god send an angel, or send a rain of fire or flood the police offices in order to flush out the erring policemen? 5. What about muslims, hare krishnas and members of ogboni fraternity within the force? will you pray for them too? And if yes, will you accept the prayer of an ogboni member? Basic point am trying to make is that we have to get off our lazy asses and stop expecting god to come down and do a miracle. Stop blaming god or the devil for things that are done by human beings. The fastest way to flush corruption is to do a total re evaluation of the system. We need for radical and stiff laws against the scourge. And government must show a sincere desire to fight corruption. Especially by making examples of the so called "rich and powerful". I advocate life imprisonment for any officer caught wanting! |
In recent times, people have continued to complain as to how corrupt, abusive and just plain incompetent our police force is. What is worse is that it seems no one is doing anything about it. Despite all the allegations against police extortion, we are yet to hear of any officer that has been dragged to court or any commissioner or dpo that has been summarily dismissed on account of corruption and inefficiency. They say that evil thrives when good people keep their mouth shut. So, instead of complaining i have chosen to drop some suggestions that can help the force improve its services, while protecting the public from abuse in the hands of bad officers. Please feel free to drop your own comments/ suggestions: 1. Whenever there is an arrest, the police officer in charge must identify himself and his badge number to the person being arrested. Failure to do so will make the arrest illegal 2. Any allegations of impropriety or rudeness on the part of an officer must promptly and severely be dealt with 3. Compulsory monthly psychological evaluation tests for all officers 4. Stiff penalties/ strict liability for corrupt or rude officers 5. Better welfare packages for officers 6. Compulsory ettiquette class for all officers 7. Compulsory and continuous legal education for all officers, especially as the law is continuously developing everyday. (Apparently most dont even have a clue of the law they are supposed to protect) 8. Periodic public enlightenment of the rights of individuals under the law 9. Need to re-examine the law with regards to obtaining search/ arrest warrant before operations. (At the moment officers are allowed to arrest people for good reason, bad reason or no reason at all) 10. Establishment of a strict independent and fully autonomous body/institution to checkmate the activities of wayward and corrupt police officers; as well as protect citizens rights. 11. Need to upgrade police buildings to world class standards- especially the holding cells. Even suspects must have a right to good hygiene 12. Encourage and enforce the use of computers, electronic equipment and internet in police activities. As well as sharing of info between police and other security outfits These are the ones i can think of for now. Please drop your suggestions, |
jayriginal::oSilence is the best answer! |
Kx:If he has presented it in LASU its still the same people like you that will start shouting that the school was bribed or forced to sing his praise. He did the right thing by presenting himself before neutral and independent body, so that they can verify his claims if they doubt. Besides, the man has been on countless programmes and tv show within the state to demonstrate his programme and blue print for lagos. Y'all shld stop hating and encourage the man! |
This man just continues to inspire me. I hope he will run for presidency, come 2015, or at least vice presidency, Nigeria needs the man desperately |
jayriginal:Common sense says that if you do not know something, u shld ask or at least make an effort to do some research. So far, ur common simply depict ur refusal to understand the difference between these two belief systems. You dont support you conclusion with any evidence or references. Have you met an atheist or an agnostic before? The fact is that when it comes to beliefs, no body has the answer to all questions. If you bother to read a little, you will understand the background from which people can to the realisation that there may or may not be a "God". You dont have to agree with these beliefs, but at least pls dont try to trivialise them. Not everybody is open to swallowing what has been shoved down our throats, hook, line and sinker! That is why i said it is a countinous learning process. It is the ability to question "why" some things are, and to shed doubts on certain falacious and unsubstantiated conclusions. While some have chosen to cling to religion or atheism as a means of rationalising the world process, others are continously studying it. If you say there is a God, can you prove it to a neutral person- i mean without any religious text? But then again, when you look at the wonders of the world, it makes you ask how such things came to be. Could it be modeled after a superior being? |
jayriginal:They are certainly not the same thing, pls read Agnosticism is the view that the truth value of certain claims—especially claims about the existence or non-existence of any deity, but also other religious and metaphysical claims—is unknown or unknowable.[1][2][3] Agnosticism can be defined in various ways, and is sometimes used to indicate doubt or a skeptical approach to questions. In some senses, agnosticism is a stance about the difference between belief and knowledge, rather than about any specific claim or belief. In the popular sense, an agnostic is someone who neither believes nor disbelieves there is a God, whereas an atheist disbelieves there is a God.[3] In the strict sense, however, agnosticism is the view that human reason is incapable of providing sufficient rational grounds to justify knowledge whether God exists or does not. Within agnosticism there are agnostic atheists (who do not believe any deity exists, but do not deny it as a possibility) and agnostic theists (who believe a God exists but do not claim to know that). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnosticism |
Succy4luv:I am not an atheist but i guess they believe in Nature, and in the physical things we can see and not in any supernatural or extraterrestial being. Agnostics on the other hand believe in God, but just not in any religion. i.e we believe that the idea of God can simply not be explained by any single institution. It is a continous learning process, and one must continually be open minded to the endless possiblities and uncertainties of the "ifs" |
Its an African thing, we are largely bigots and homophobic. We hate to think outside the box, rather stick to that which we already know. There is a burning desire by most Africans to "conform" to accepted standards of what they define as "good morals". Africans are largely afraid of change, we see it in our leaders, in academic institutions, in the practice of our respective religions etc! It may be because we operate on a closely-knit community, and therefore there is this huge fear of being "cast out" for being "different". Religion thrives in Africa largely because we are afraid of asking questions. Of challenging what we have been taught as "true" and "good" as against what is "logical". Therefore atheism or other forms of religion are usually frown upon for being different. |
dippy yoo:Superstory! So how do you know the indigenous ones were not a test of faith as well? There is a differemce between witchcraft/rituals and the worship pf traditional gods? I know for a fact that most of the traditional gods also reject human sacrifices. Isnt that what led to the fight between the two wives of sango? The point is that we must refrain from swallowing foreign ideas hook line and sinker! All the advanced countries of the world, including South Africa do not tolerate abuse of traditional worship. Without or customs and tradition, we are nothing! Be informed! |
dippy yoo:That is a stupid statement. How many of these indigenous religion have u practiced for u to know which one is synonymous with human sacrifice? Besides isnt human sacrifice also recognised in the bible? Did god require abraham to slaughter his only son? So what are we talking about? Everything you know about christianity was written, taught and forced upon you by a white man. It is even funny how he same white men have today turned around to shed doubt on some of these mythical stories in the bible, yet your "thick skull" prefers to stick to the former lies! |
