Wow, this is so sad. I just read about it in the news. Tragedy! Luxury Bus Rams Into Stationery Tanker Loaded With Diesels 15 May 200 Lagos -- TRAGEDY struck in Edo state today when a luxury bus rammed into a stationery tanker loaded with diesel killing over fifty persons on the spot. The incident which occurred between the university town of Ekpoma in Esan West Local Government Area and Irrua at about 5:30pm threw residence of the area into mourning. it was said that the tanker exploded causing severe fire which roasted the luxury passengers said to be travelling to Onitsha alive. Vanguard learnt that only five persons in the luxury bus survived the tragic incident. The incident happened barely two weeks after fourteen market women lost their lives in an accident at Ewu, along the same Benin Auchi road. It was learnt that two out of the five survivals who were rushed to the Irrua Specialist Hospital, which is situated close to to the accident scene, are in a very critical situation. There was serious traffic jam along the Auchi-Okenne due to the incident until men of the Federal Road Safety Commission arrived to clear the ever busy road whcih also led to Abuja. As at 11am the fire was still raging. The Zonal Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Commission in Benin , Alhaji Zakari Nda, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on the telephone explained that it was difficult for him to confirm the exact number of people killed in the accident as the vehicle was still burning. He said however that the luxury bus was traveling from Sokoto to Onitsha when the accident occurred at the Edo axis of the road, adding that the passengers' manifest extracted from the bus showed that 41 people left Sokoto with the bus and that it was difficult to know if some people disembarked before the accident or there was even over loading. He said that most of the victims were burnt beyond recognition which made it difficult to count and get the exact number of people who lost their lives in the inferno caused by the impact of the explosion. Nda regreted that some of the victims were trapped in the bus while others were seen in various positions as they tried to escape from the luxury, explaining that five people survived the accident and were responding to treatment at the Specialist Hospital Irrua, where they were rushed to for treatment. He added that the management of the hospital had discharged one of the lucky survivors who volunteered to leave the hospital on his own. But Vanguard was reliably informed that the victims would not be less than fifty five due to the passengers they picked on the way outside the ones registered in the manifest. http://www.vanguardngr.com/content/view/35923/42/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Horrific doesn't come close to describing this incident, may all of their souls rest in peace. |
Tthere are already four threads on this same exact subject (from the same source), please, before creating a thread search the forum and see if someone hasn't already created it. Mods, could you please merge all of the threads on this subject into one big thread? |
Wow, this has to be one of the most entertaining threads I've stumbled upon this week. ![]() |

Envoy Confronts South African Police Brutality Lagos — Nigeria's Consul General (C-G) in Johannesburg, Kalu Ukwu, has challenged police authorities in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, over incessant reports of brutalisation, intimidation, extortion and harassment of Nigerians. Ukwu, who visited the Province's Police Commissioner, Hamilton Ngidi, in his office in Durban, on Wednesday, said this was rather sad, especially at a time when relations between Nigeria and South Africa had reached a strategic level. "'Nigerians still suffer series of police brutalisation, harassment, extortion and undue intimidation here in South Africa. I must say that we are not happy with the reported cases of undue harassment Nigerians are subjected to. "While we are not against your government fighting criminality, we take exception to the situation where every Nigerian is targeted and tagged a criminal. "You must be aware that many Nigerians are hard working, honest and respect the law, while contributing meaningfully to the economic growth of your economy. We will appreciate it if these issues are looked into, so that the existing cordial relations between both nations would continue to thrive, as both countries prepare to celebrate the 10 years Bi-National anniversary in October." Ukwu said. Nigerian government was committed to protecting interest, welfare and well-being of its citizens anywhere in the world and would not fold its arms while Nigerians were unfairly treated by agents of government of their host community. Responding, Ngidi assured Ukwu that the police would endeavour to look into all issues raised, with a view to fishing out some of the bad elements within the force. He, however, said, "we do not deliberately go after any particular people or Nigerians during our policing operations, but I agree that there are some bad officers among us who take the laws into their hands." "There is a unit currently dealing with tens of tons of such complaints even from South Africans," he said. Earlier, at a meeting with leaders of the Nigerian community in Durban, Ukwu urged them to live by example and remain patriotic and good ambassadors of Nigeria in their host community. He advised the leadership to always liaise with officials of the Consulate if they confront any difficulty. http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=143424 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Although we Nigerians have a reputation in South Africa for being into shady business, many innocent hard working Nigerians fall victim to discrimination by South Africa's (overwhelmingly white) police force just because they are Nigerian. I'm talking about regular people who have no connections to any bad business getting threatened and beaten all because of their accent or because they look different. Even with the criminals, there is extreme injustice. I remember watching a video about Nigerian criminals in Durban, and they had a segment to where the police had rounded up a group of naijas and searched them for drugs. Well in this segment I specifically remember a [white] police officer planting one of the men with a 'white substance' ! I will post the video for you all to watch. |
blackspade:Here are the sources for what I said in bold: "There is a large Nigerian community in the UK, estimated to be between 800,000 and 3 million, while up to 4,000 Britons live in Nigeria." Don't a few of those banks have branches in the West? |
There are waaaay more than 1.1 million Blacks in Britain, are you sure that's not just the number for London? I read somewhere that Nigerians alone have a population up to 3 million and Ghanaians up to 1.5 million. |
I don't know what to say. . . . .damn. ![]() |
Waste management – private sector urged to get involved Tue, 12 May 2009 09:33 With a population of close to 18 million people, waste management is a top priority for the Lagos State Government. The current administration is urging the private sector to get involved in all areas of waste management. Investment Opportunities Lagos produces 9 000 tonnes of waste per day. With a population density of 4 193 people per km2 and a projected population of 25.4 million by 2015, issues related to waste loom large in any development strategy - and present a wide range of possibilities for the investment community. Opportunities for investment exist in all areas of waste mangement and serious investors are welcome to submit their proposals. Some of the specific opportunities identified by the state government include: Waste conversion Waste can be converted into various products, including fertiliser, methane gas and electricity. A company called Earthcare Technologies Incorporated has already invested successfully in this area and is currently running Africa's largest compost factory in Lagos. Waste transfer loading stations Lagos needs 14 transfer loading stations in the waste management sector and investors are needed urgently. Compactors Lagos needs 450 compactors for the efficient transport of refuse. The state anticipates being able to supply 200 (with the input of local companies). The shortfall of 250 compactor trucks represents an opening for foreign investors. Wheeler bins A huge market exists for this product in Lagos as the state government is simultaneously driving a public health programme together with a concerted drive to formalise all refuse storage and collection. Motorised street cleaners Approximately 375 kilometres of road has been prioritised by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) as urgently in need of regular street cleaning. The agency is willing to pay contractors to do the job. Modes of Investment The state government is offering the following modes of investment: -Private sector financed and operated -State to create enabling environment -Provision of land -Organisation of producers to supply factory -Patronage of products where applicable -Partnership with the state government Contact Details Companies or individuals interested in waste management opportunities should contact: Lagos State Ministry of Environment Contact: Muiz Adeyemi Banire - Commissioner for Environment Email: muizbanire@yahoo.com http://www.tradeinvestnigeria.com/investment_opportunities/655788.htm |

You should change your name to ikeyboy00, because opening threads like these just exemplify how childish and immature you are. What is the point of opening an entire new thread over a personal problem between you and becomerich? ![]() |
Where in the world did you find that ugly flag? duduspace:I was thinking the same thing. What about a functioning, united Sudan? How about Ivory Coast? DRC? Somalia? |
Lots in California, like: Marin County, San Francisco, Orange County, plus tons of neighborhoods in cities. |
biina:here is my email: blackspadeone@hotmail.com |
biina:Thanks for the info. I actually don't mind attending a school outside of LA as long as it's in California (I really like this state). My field of interest is engineering, but I also want to study business. |
UCLA (University of California Los Angeles), it costs almost $8,000 a year ($28,000 if you live outside of California). |
I wish the university I'm trying to get into had a tuition fee of only $1000. |
