I got this message from a friend yesterday about this new website called Whive.com (based in Kenya), and I though that I should share it. It's pretty new, so it doesn't have many user yet, but its goal is to unite Africans through social networking. When they get enough helpers, they plan on introducing African languages like Kiswahili and Igbo (plus more) to their website. The site is also nicely designed!! Here is the message:

We at Whive.com are going to unite Kenya and Africa by doing the following.

Preserving African Languages starting with Kiswahili, Igbo, Yoruba, Kikuyu, Dholuo, etc.

Giving each African a Blog and access to SMS utility systems.

Connecting every African through Mobile phones at Whive.mobi and our partnership with Nokia.

Supporting African SME's through Classifieds advertising and Business loans and grants.

Educating as many Africans as possible through our Open University

Giving access to shares Markets and Commidities Markets.

Providing Daily news coverage

TravelMexico 'opens Its Arms' To Immigrants by blackspade(op): 10:05pm On Nov 08, 2009
Mexico 'opens its arms' to immigrants

Mexico has taken steps to allow the increasing number of foreigners who flood into the country each year, whether legally or illegally, to apply for citizenship.

Most of Mexico's immigrants come from Central America, but at least one million of them arrive from United States.

Al Jazeera's Franc Contreras reports from the central Mexican town of San Miguel de Allende, where foreigners say they appreciate a simpler kind of life.

Wow, Mexico used to be notorious for harsh immigration policies. Nice to see this. smiley
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Pilgrims Riot In Saudi Arabia by blackspade(m): 5:35am On Nov 08, 2009
I admit that I don't know much about Islam, but my main qualm it the Arab supremacy (I have nothing against the religion itself, or people who practice it). I know not all Muslims are Arab, but the "Arabization" of millions of black Africans over the centuries simply cannot go unnoticed. A good example would be the Sudanese people (Northern), who had a very rich history before they were Arabized. While there are some Sudanese who are actually "Arab", they are very few in number and the vast majority of Muslims there are black African. Due to Arabization, pricelss artifacts dating from ancient black African civilizations were completely destroyed (it continues to this day if you read about the dams they're building there), black Africans were forced to abandon their native languages, and learn Arabic. Former Sudanese president Gaafar Nimeiry was very active in promoting pan-arabism; however, not all signs of black african culture are gone. For example, Somali women are known to have very colorful traditional dress, but a sweeping new wave of Islam originating from Saudi Arabia is helping accelerate the demise of their colorful dress with the "niqab".

Look at this world hunger map:

https://img682.imageshack.us/img682/9490/worldhungermap.jpg

Hunger is worse in Botswana than it is in Nigeria.

That map you've shown is misleading, show me revenue. Botswana's economy is shrinking: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601116&sid=a7RImikNVwpQ

Wikipedia can be edited by anyone, and they can put whatever bias on it they'd like (I found this out when I tried editing it, and someone went back and re-edited my stuff). angry
PoliticsRe: Na Dream? Resounding Success (Botswana) by blackspade(m): 2:52am On Oct 31, 2009
If anything, I would want Nigeria to be the exact opposite of Botswana. Do you know that over a quarter of Botswana's population is malnourished, even though it is supposedly a success story? http://www.thezimbabwean.co.uk/2009102125756/african-perspectives/half-a-million-batswana-are-hungry-fao-report.html

Their economy's dependence on minerals is far worse than Nigeria's dependence on oil. Their economy is expected to shrink by 20% this year. HIV/AIDS is also rampant here. You need to re-think this thread.

Btw, Wikipedia is NOT a reliable source.
