China traffic jam: 100 km long, 13 days old BEIJING – China has just been declared the world's second biggest economy, and now it has a monster traffic jam to match. Triggered by road construction, the snarl-up began August 14th and was 100 kilometers (60 miles) long at one point. Reaching almost to the outskirts of Beijing, traffic still creeps along in fits and starts, and the crisis could last for another three weeks, authorities say. In the worst-hit stretches of the road in northern China, drivers pass the time sitting in the shade of their immobilized trucks, playing cards, sleeping on the asphalt or bargaining with price-gouging food vendors. Many of the trucks that carry fruit and vegetables are unrefrigerated, and the cargoes are assumed to be rotting. On Sunday, the eighth day of the near-standstill, trucks moved just over a kilometer (less than a mile) on the worst section, said Zhang Minghai, a traffic director in Zhangjiakou, a city about 150 kilometers (90 miles) northwest of Beijing. China Central Television reported Tuesday that some vehicles had been stuck for five days. No portable toilets were set up along the highway, leaving only two apparent options — hike to a service area or into the fields. But there were no reports of violent road rage, and the main complaint heard from drivers was about villagers on bicycles making a killing selling boxed lunches, bottled water to drink and heated water for noodles. A bottle of water was selling for 10 yuan ($1.50), 10 times the normal price, Chinese media reports said. The traffic jam built up on the Beijing-Tibet highway, on a section that links the capital to the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia. The main reason traffic has increased on this partially four-lane highway is the opening of coal mines in the northwest, vital for the booming economy that this month surpassed Japan's in size and is now second only to America's. Although wages remain generally low, auto ownership and gridlock have grown so commonplace that Inner Mongolia authorities restrict cars' movement to alternate days, based on odd or even numbers in their license plates. The immediate cause of the traffic jam that began Aug. 14 is construction on one of three southbound highways feeding into Beijing. Authorities are trying to ease the snarl-up by letting more trucks into the capital, especially at night, said Zhang, the traffic director. They also asked trucking companies to suspend operations and advised drivers to take the few alternate routes available. "Things are getting better and better," he said, but he added that the construction would go on until Sept. 17. |
I don't understand this poster. First u guys are planning on getting married and attending marriage counselling now nothing is forthcoming. Gudgurl:Also, i thought u were the one complaining that he was cheating on u and doesn't respect u. Gudgurl:Na wa to u. |
A governor once said that only a student who fails a class should be asked to repeat that class. I guess the person was referring to 2nd Term. |
The only reason u can't imagine someone praying quietly for the Holy Ghost is because your mind is already conditioned to believe that the only way such will happen is when u shout. There is a difference among praying silently (praying in your mind), praying normally (in your normal speaking voice) and shouting. Like I said before do whatever rocks your boat. As for me, my role model is Jesus who will go to the top of the mountain to pray, who will pray with such groans that words cannot be uttered. I remember a passage in d Bible dat said God was not in the mighty fire or in d great wind but is a still small voice. |
@ Elite. I think u are misunderstanding the situation. He is not being charged only about the loans, he is charged for financial impropriety ie STEALING. There are rules and regulations regarding the operation of banks and the responsibilities of the management staff to the owners which are the shareholders. Unfortunately, if u break the law, u have to face the music. He started up the company and has done great things but absolute power corrupts absolutely and he has acted like a power drunk dictator. |
I personally think this is the curse of having what they call umu boy ie apprentices for their businesses. I have seen them go through hell just for it to reach their freedom and their master will refuse 2 settle them. Sometimes, I just want God 2 destroy these wicked people by fire. |
Pls, she should put up the pictures. Let us judge for ourselves. |
@ Validator, it didnt just make BBC news, it made all the news stations in the UK wether small or big. It has even gotten to the point that the lady needs police protection because people have been threathening to kill her. Yeye people, worse things are going on in the world and they are making such noise about one ugly cat. |
^^^^^^ He is big and muscular so he doesn't feel my weight at all until he wants to turn over. |
Na wa o. 190, abeg tell me, whose ass did i kiss? |
My dad would either knock on the door or call out our names telling us it was time for family devotion. My mum would enter our rooms and gently rub our arms. When we wake, she will then smile at us and ask how our nites were. I loved it. However, my husband, who is not the most romantic of guys, would just give me a hard slap on the bum. This always gets me so pissed that i might even hit him quite hard cos i am a light sleeper so why the harshness. When i try to wake him up, no matter how i call his name or shake his body he wont budge. Now, i just sit on him until he wakes up. ![]() |
^^^^^ I don't think it is always like that. I believe that if the child is well trained then it will be a healthy experience. My sister actually had her first boyfriend when she was 16. She is over 25 now and is still a virgin. How do i know? That one is a very long story for another day. Suffice it to say that the doctor certified her a virgin and she has had 3 serious relationships since her first love. I had only one boyfriend who i am currently married to. My parents taught us well and i thank God for them. It is the same values i hope to install in my teenage children. |
Seems like the poster has kind of like made up his mind to divorce her. Whatever you feel is right to do, pls do it. |
My parents were totally against me dating. You can imagine that even when i was 21 and told them of my boyfriend, it was like fire would fall from heaven. My dad even banned me from ever seeing him. Yet we continued and i am now married to him. I will let my teen date in a supervised manner. What i can't stand is the sneaking around and lies that come with them trying to hide the relationship. I want them to be open with me. If i have trained them well then, i believe they will be able to make good choices. However, the important phrase is "in a supervised manner". |
@190, why put me in the same category with Mobo444? Whatever i have done, pls forgive me o. This your hatred for me is now too much. This one na serious insult. I like Gabry's own best. ![]() |
I read the post very carefully Mr High Chief, i think you are the one that needs to re-read your post.
Three men wielding AK-47 assault rifles gunned down a former Niger Delta militant, Soboma George, in Port Harcourt today. Mr George was reportedly playing football in the Rivers State capital at about 6pm in the company of a female friend and some of his loyalists when he was attacked. Although details of the incident remain murky, Mr George, his female friend, and one other man were killed in the shootout. The assailants allegedly made away with Mr George's body; the other corpses are said to be in the custody of the police. Mr George, who had in the past been linked to the militant group, Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), accepted the federal government's amnesty offer last year.
The highlighted areas were what i was referring to. Abeg bros, cool down small. (Also, i have no problems with understanding simple written English) |
@ Philip0906, I could have actually gone over each point but it just felt like it will be too long a post. However, u have pointed out about Daniel and i wish to take you up on that. If you re-read Daniel chapter 6 especially verses 10 and 11, nowhere did it say he shouted out of the window. He prayed and the other men went to his room and found him praying. He was not shouting if not they wont have gone to his room but would have stood outside and heard him loud and clear. Remember, do not add or subtract from the Bible before you get condemnation. He opened his windows as they faced towards Jerusalem. There is nothing wrong with praying out, i just am disturbed by people who feel it is necessary to shout. Like i said before, if you are led by the spirit to shout, go right ahead and do so but i will quietly move to a more quiet corner for my own conversation with God. |

The girl killed was a young girl that was selling groundnut to him not his girlfriend. Sadly enough, her sister was also injured in the melee. |
I wonder what the wife was doing while the man was playing with her breasts. ![]() |
Hannah did not shout as if she was drunk. It was because she was praying silently and opening and closing her mouth without any sound coming out that is why Eli thought she was drunk. This is someone in so much pains cos she was barren but was able to pray silently. The person that posted that mis-information should be a Berean Christian and go and re-read his scriptures. I do not believe that someone must shout and tear down the place to be heard by God but if that is what you are led by the spirit to do, by all means do so. I personally keep away from people i call shouters so that i dont hear what i am not supposed to hear e.g forgive me for sleeping with this lady's husband. ![]() |
For the doubters, this is the official release from project fame: PRESS RELEASE ON ULTIMA STUDIOS FIRE INCIDENT In spite of the mysterious fire that ravaged Ultima Studios on Sunday August 22, 2010, the company has stated that their two currently running productions WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE? and MTN PROJECT FAME WEST AFRICA season 3 would continue as scheduled. A recording for WWTBAM had just ended, when crew members noticed a minor fire, late Sunday. But what started as a little ball soon turned into huge flames as extinguishers failed to contain the fire. Staff and contestants who were housed in the Academy were promptly evacuated. There were no injuries nor lives lost. However, both the studios for WWTBAM and MTN Project Fame West Africa were badly hit and invaluable equipment lost to the inferno. Ultima CEO, Femi Ayeni, told reporters on the site, Sunday, “although the incident is catastrophic and the loss shattering, we’re grateful to God that no lives were lost. The contestants are safe and we are confident that the show will go on, and in no time at all we will be back on air so keep watching.” Early visitors to the site included MTN’s GM Consumer Marketing, Kola Oyeyemi. MTN, Nigeria’s largest telecoms company, is the sole sponsor for WWTBAM and the title sponsors for Project Fame. “This is a monumental disaster. We can’t even begin to comprehend the personal, emotional and material loss. But in all we thank God that no lives were lost. MTN is committed to enriching lives through our different services, properties and initiatives and we are already discussing with our partners at Ultima on how to make sure this tragedy does not distract us”. Ultima is determined to take this incident in its stride and plans are on to return to full and enhanced production of WWTBAM and PFWA. http://www.projectfamewestafrica.com/news/112.html |
Abeg jo. Nothing new here. I av seen fathers take their young sons out to drink and they drink small stout. |
Would like my brothers and me to be more outgoing. |
What of smh? |
My reason for getting married is to start making babies. We were together for a while so i have had considerable amounts of companionship. Now it is time for the great sex and making of babies. |
Was reading the post about Siasia. Sounds like the young man is counting his chickens before they are hatched. |
What i don't understand is that the owner of the house asked u to move out and u and ur boyfriend decided that u should not? Am i missing something here? ![]() Is it until she throws ur things into the middle of the road that u would hear? Pls, respect urself. 5yrs and still counting. |
I won't condone it for my kids. I can't speak my language fluently just in broken phrases though i speak excellent English. This was cos my parents thought it wise to speak English to us growing up. It is such a disadvantage cos it makes u look snobbish when u r with ur folks. I wont make that mistake. As it is, i am already speaking my language to my baby in the womb. |
He had bettter send one to Italy. Prostitutes full dere. |
There has got to be a catch here. Why would UBA be recruiting only from Zenith bank and using a yahoo address. Smells fishy to me. |
