Health / COVID-19 Vaccine In 1 Month? CSIR Pins Hope On Sepsivac by Blindersoff: 9:19am On May 03, 2020

India's top research and development organization, the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), which is currently testing a "repurposed" vaccine against Covid-19 in a Phase 2 trial, is hoping to seek approval from the drug controller for its wider use against the pandemic in as early as 30 days from now, the scientist who is coordinating the effort said on Saturday

India's top research and development organization, the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), which is currently testing a "repurposed" vaccine against Covid-19 in a Phase 2 trial, is hoping to seek approval from the drug controller for its wider use against the pandemic in as early as 30 days from now, the scientist who is coordinating the effort said on Saturday.CSIR is currently testing Cadila Pharmaceuticals' "Sepsivac" against COVID-19.

This treatment was developed as a result of a partnership between CSIR and Cadila Pharmaceuticals many years ago. This immunotherapy treatment, which boosts "innate immunity", was initially approved by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for gram negative sepsis which is a disease caused by bacteria. But the scientists found that the pathological symptoms of this disease and Covid-19 were quite similar. And given the urgency of finding a solution to the rapidly rising Covid-19 cases across the world, the scientists thought of testing the treatment against the current pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

CSIR got the approval to test "Sepsivac" against Covid-19 in a Phase 2 clinical trial about 10 days ago. The trial is being conducted on 50 patients at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, AIIMS Bhopal, and Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh."We expect the results from this Phase 2 trial within 30-45 days from now. And if the results are encouraging, we will seek approval from the drug controller because of emergency and keep on continuing the Phase 3 trial. That's how it happens," Ram Vishwakarma, Director, Integrative Medicine (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research), Jammu, told IANS.Vishwakarma said that once it applies, the approval from the drug controller is expected to come fast as it is an emergency situation.

So if the Phase 2 trial shows that "Sepsivac" is effective against Covid-19, the world may have a vaccine against the disease as early as one month from now, at least for emergency use.Meanwhile, Vishwakarma informed that CSIR has also got approval for conducting Phase 3 clinical trial of "Sepsivac" against Covid-19."The Phase 3 trials will be done on 1,100 people -- 600 will be those who have tested positive but non- symptomatic, and 500 will be those who are out of hospital," Vishwakarma said.

How does Sepsivac work?

It contains heat-killed mycobacterium w (Mw), an immunomodulator, which is a non-pathogenic mycobacterium."Normally when you develop a vaccine, you grow the organism and kill it. It is called heat killed. Here we heat killed the bacteria. It is a standard vaccine concept," Vishwakarma said, adding that the bacterium is produced by fermentation."The treatment we are testing against Covid-19 is designed to enhance innate immunity which is very critical. People who are weak in innate immunity will get the infection faster," he said.

Vishwakarma explained that it is a non-specific vaccine which could be used to both cure and protect people. He explained that there are generally three types of vaccines."There are therapeutic vaccines, where you give them as a drug for curing. There are prophylactic vaccines, which you give to people to protect them. And there are some which have both the properties, which are called immunomodulators."Sepsivac will be an immunomodulator, which will have protective effect and therapeutic effect both," he said.

Vishwakarma is hopeful that the Phase 2 clinical trials of the treatment will provide positive results. And because the drug is already in use for sepsis or septic shock treatment, "human safety is already assured," he said, adding that it will be applicable for all age groups."We are keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for the best," Vishwakarma said.As developing a vaccine against a new

Ghana is following the German model by testing more and detecting early. Look at their death rate. It is very low and their plan seems to be working.

Nigeria doesn't seem to have a plan

Ghana is not testing more. Those are lies. Their death rate is high ignore their lies. They have no plan here because I live in Ghana currently.

Ghana has an agenda of mass random testing, isolate all cases and treating of patients to avoid or minimize critical health conditions .Currently only two people are critically ill now out of the 2,000 cases. The rest have mild cases and don't even show symptoms of sickness. So early detection ,isolation and treatment is the best approach according to the WHO.

Ghana Health Service is moving from house to house and testing people randomly and tracked through contact tracing through a special app designed in Ghana with 100% Ghanaian made rapid testing kit which has been approved by our Food and Drugs Authority who are not even sick so the probability of isolating over 90% of positive cases is very high.

Test test test is the current cure for this virus so for a country of 29 million people who has done 113,000 testing with 3,200 tests per 1 million people which is the highest in Africa is doing far better than a country of 200 million people who has done 12,000 tests which is 64 tests per 1 million people. Nigeria can do better. Its not a competition so we have to work together. That's how Ghana has the lowest death rate of 17 deaths for a 2,000 case recorded.Egypt and co had over 100 deaths when they reached 2,000 cases buh that is not the case of Ghana.

Shut up you this liar.

The number of tests done in Ghana is not up to 20k. Your government lies like there is no tomorrow.

I am here in Ghana and there is absolutely no house to house testing going on and those tested so far are very very low. Those over 100k acclaimed tested are false figures inflated by your government to keep them in good stead with USA their slave masters

Yes it can. That infrared thermometer reads temperature and one of the symptoms of a Corona virus active patient is a fever. Although there are also asymptomatic carriers. Regardless, those actively infected would be detected

Once your temperature indicates a fever, you will be separated from everyone else and tested.

Once again, do your research. Do you know for a fact this is not the first time they used cold trucks to store bodies or the first time Mortuaries have been filled?

And the only reason the government is the one doing the burial is because victims of the virus not cremated can't be claimed.

Please and please, do not take my word for it, do your research, just ask on your own if they don't do it on their own on occasion.

You keep saying do your research when you have not done any kind of positive research but only to twist facts.

The speed of the spread and high death toll plus the fact that this is a totally new terrain medically necessitated the need for government to take responsibility of disposing of corpses this way.

This may not be the first time cold trucks at being used, but this is the first time they are being used on such a large scale especially when it all was preventable if Trump had done his job as he should but rather chose to politicize it and thus endangered the lives of thousands of not millions of Americans .

Ever wonder why Newyork is the hotbed of this virus?

OK, I believe I have watched most of them then. First of all, they did not say the virus was not real, they said the reactions of Democrats is what is a hoax.

Right now, antegen testing is showing that the rate of infection might be at least 3 times the recorded infected rate. That means 2 times as more people than recorded caught it an did not know. Is that not the same pattern as the flu.

Right now, do you think the Democrats do not know the president will be the one to blame?

As stupid as they are, do you not believe the increased possibility of them involving in sabotage so the president will take the blame?

You are not making any sense whatsoever.

Democrats were shouting from high heavens that Trump should act fast while he was the one downplaying the whole thing himself.

He even went as far as cutting medical funds of the country and disbanding the quick response team in the White house who oversea medical emergencies of this nature.

That had nothing to do with Democrats.

This is not like flu..this is a new virus with zero immunity against it and the only thing we can do is trying to lessen the associated symptoms it comes with which can kill you when you have a compromised immune system which is why the high death toll is mostly among the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions.

What you are saying about the Democrats is completely false because Republicans were the ones who claimed the virus was not all that and a huge hoax and this reflected in the republican run cable news Network called FOX

Please sir, do your research, what is the normal death rates of the affected regions?

Do you know with all the racking up of death rate the current death rate is still lower than the average death rate before corona virus?

Don't take my word for it, research it yourself.

And people like mentioning 700k cases. Do you guys seem to forget that over half of those cases are at home and do not need medical help to beat the virus?

At the bolded. Yet mortuaries are over filled with dead bodies to the extent they had to start using cold trucks to store dead bodies and for speed of doing away with the large numbers of dead bodies had to bury hundreds on an island?

There is no data that can pinpoint exactly who would die or live from being infected by the virus.

Human life is not a game of Bingo

You think it is just to type without reasoning? People are loosing businesses, they are watching what they have built go down the drain, relationships are being strained, yet you are saying people should stay at home for a sickness that is fatal to less than 5% of those infected. Over 60% of infected will not know they have it, bro, please think well.

They are not staging any protest, they are protesting because they have realized the Democrats blew the sickness out of proportion.

So Democrats blew it out of proportion in Italy, Spain, China, and a host of other countries with high infection counts and high death counts?

How dumb people reason never hides

You still have not pointed out how Ghana is worse than Nigeria in this respect. Remember you are in Ghana, you are not in Nigeria. Small population is immaterial here. The more reason why Nigeria should be more aggressive in the aspect of testing.

Tell me, how is Ghana worse than Nigeria? If you are using the figures as a criteria, I will not agree with you. Have you been watching Bangledash, Turkey, Russia and Saudi Arabia? The figures are tumbling.

With aggressive tests you will be surprised what the results will look like. Why massive testing is good is just so asymptomatic vectors do not transmit this virus to vulnerable ones. It's very critical. Until Nigeria's testing rises to more than that of Ghana it will be difficult for me to agree with you that Nigeria is doing better. Assuming the tests figures were close I could see reasons with you.

For mild symptoms though not all positive cases need hospitalization. Don't be surprised though that some in Nigeria are self-medicating at home already. Dangerous, dangerous. That is what limited testing can do.

.

Such ignorance and you think many in Ghana are not self medicating too? You need to stay here for a little while to understand what i meant by deep levels of ignorance.

You think Nigeria needs to be insulted while you hype Ghana without knowing the basics. Ghana is worse and if you feel like dragging this issue then enjoy your ignorance. I am in Ghana and telling you first hand and you who are not wish to argue with me.

Accra alone makes up the covid19 positive cases of the entire Nigeria. The President gave a 4 to 5 day grace period even after announcing there would be a lockdown in Major cities. This prompted many who were already positive unknowingly to travel to their villages and begin a fresh pandemic there. Now it is everywhere with almost 1200 cases and counting. Despite the high confirmed numbers they only have 99 recoveries while Nigeria with half their number of confirmed cases have 170 recoveries yet to you Ghana is doing better.

Guy take several seats.

So in your mind Ghana is worse than Nigeria?

Ghana has tested over 60,000
Nigeria has tested 7,153

So if Ghana has over 1000 confirmed cases and Nigeria 627, you can now understand.

The answer is test, test, test. Trace, Test, Treat

If you like lockdown for 10years, until you test and isolate infected ones, you are still joking.

.

I am in Ghana currently and I can tell you for a fact that Nigeria is better than Ghana when it comes to handling the Covid -19 pandemic.

It is not about the number of tests alone but the deep levels of ignorance here.

Besides they are 5 times smaller than Nigeria so easier to handle yet they are already heading to 1200 cases and statistically, comparing their data to Nigeria, they are doing worse.

Health / Coronavirus: 381 Die In UK In 24 Hours by Blindersoff: 10:57pm On Mar 31, 2020
DEADLY RISE UK coronavirus death rate DOUBLES as 381 including teen, 19, with no health problems die in 24hrs

THE UK coronavirus death rate doubled today as 381 people including a teen with no underlying health conditions died in 24 hours.

Britain's positive Covid-19 cases have also jumped - with 25,150 infected people - up 2,706 from yesterday.

The latest figures from the Department of Health reveal 381 people have died in 24 hours after a rise of 180 deaths in the same time period yesterday.

In England, the NHS today confirmed the death rate had also more than doubled from 159 yesterday to 367 today in the biggest 24-hour leap so far.

The latest victims were aged between 19 and 98 - with 28 having no previous medical conditions - bringing the total death toll in the country to 1,651.

The 19-year-old is the youngest coronavirus victim in the UK with no underlying health conditions.

Last week, the heartbroken family of a "very healthy" 19-year-old Italian chef living in London revealed he had died from suspected coronavirus.

Luca Di Nicola from Enfield, North London, was told by medics he had "nothing to worry about" after falling ill, La Repubblica newspaper reported.

The teen passed away on March 24 a day after being rushed to hospital with collapsed lungs.

North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust confirmed today a 19-year-old man had died after testing positive for the disease following his death.

Public Health Wales confirmed there have been seven further deaths - bringing their total to 69.

While in Northern Ireland, six more people have died, with their total deaths now at 28.

Today's figures only include those who have died in hospital after testing positive for the disease, so the true death toll is actually higher.

From the start of the crisis until March 20, at least 40 more people died from coronavirus in England and Wales than previously thought after hidden deaths at home were revealed for the first time.

New figures revealed 210 people died in England and Wales from the killer bug during that time period - 23 per cent more than official NHS numbers have shown.

NHS England and Public Health Wales had recorded 170 people died in hospital up to that date.

Once the Office of National Statistics work out the numbers since March 20, the most recent numbers will raise again.

Yesterday, the Department of Health reported 1,408 Covid-19 deaths in the UK - a rise of 180 from the previous day.

It marked the first time the daily increase in deaths has fallen for two consecutive days - suggesting drastic lockdown measures may be working.

At least four of those who died had no pre-existing medical conditions, the Department of Health said.

London remains the highest coronavirus hotspot with 122 of today's deaths in England happening in the capital.

But startling new figures revealed today how Sheffield and Slough are close behind.

Sheffield has recorded 59 cases per 100,000 people - just behind the 64 cases per 100,000 in the capital.

Meanwhile Slough, Berkshire, has recorded 49 cases per 100,000.

It is unclear exactly why Slough and Sheffield have been so badly hit by the virus.

Health / Coronavirus In NYC: Over 300 NYPD Policemen Test Positive by Blindersoff: 8:00am On Mar 27, 2020
More than 300 cops have tested positive for the coronavirus — with many more awaiting test results for COVID-19 as the illness continues to spread through the NYPD, officials said Thursday.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said on FOX5 Thursday morning that 322 members of the department have tested positive for COVID-19 — a 36 percent increase in confirmed coronavirus cases from the day prior — with many tests still outstanding. The breakdown of uniformed officers and civilians who have the bug was not provided.

“These jumps are very significant,” he said. “What we’re seeing here is that, if you look at […] community spread, the assumption is that large portions of New York City residents and members of the workforce have been exposed.”

“We prepare for events,” Shea continued. “Every event is different, and this is certainly a unique one, but we have a good track record and we have a lot of experience in terms of working through crises.”

The commissioner also noted the number of cops taking sick time was three times the normal rate, with over 3,237 officers out sick as of Wednesday night.

He did not provide an updated number Thursday morning.

Sometime over the weekend, the department will set up an operational task force of about 600 officers whose main function will be replacing cops out sick, Shea said in a video to members of the NYPD posted to Twitter.

“It’s gonna change day-to-day, but the immediacy is backfilling patrol, backfilling numbered squads where that’s appropriate,” he said.

“We’ll also be backfilling numbered squads with detective bureau personnel to keep the day-to-day job running,” he added, confirming a Post report from Monday.

They’ll also be sending cops on new assignments unique to the coronavirus.

“We’re also going to be taking up tasks that we didn’t before this pandemic struck. We’re gonna be covering hospitals, we’re gonna be covering streets that are closed, we’re gonna be covering parks,” Shea said.

“Be ready, have your uniform ready, be ready to pick up the slack for the men and women next to you that’s out sick, because we’re gonna need you to step in until they come back.”
