Atiku is a fool. The supreme court did not declare PDP winner. they did not declare anyone as winner. They only asked that the person who not only came second BUT ALSO MEETS THE REQUIRED 2/3 SPREAD IN VOTES SHOULD BE DECLARED AS NEXT GOVERNOR. PDP only won 2 local governments so did not meet the requirement to be sworn in as next governor so Atiku as usual is making a fool of himself by this submission of his. |
Indispensable85:PDP actually only won 2 local governments so the PDP candidate did not meet the requirements to be sworn in as governor. The only candidate who met the requirement was Lyon |
Other countries less populated and less ethnically diverse as Nigeria are taking charge of their internet space to ensure peace remains in their country but in Nigerias case wailers will scream FREEDOM OF SPEECH in the face of impending chaos. |
IN SUMMARY The government says the law is needed to prevent violence ahead of elections, but the United Nations says it will stifle free speech. The new law permits fines of up to 100,000 Ethiopian birr ($3,000) and imprisonment for up to five years for anyone who shares or creates social media posts that are deemed to result in violence or disturbance of public order. Some 297 lawmakers who were present in the chamber voted in favour of the bill while just 23 Ethiopia’s Parliament passed a law on Thursday imposing jail terms for people whose internet posts stir unrest, a move the government says is needed to prevent violence ahead of elections but which the United Nations says will stifle free speech. Ethiopia, for decades one of the most tightly controlled states in Africa, has undergone huge political change since reformist Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed took office two years ago. But even as Abiy has freed political prisoners and journalists and lifted a ban on opposition parties, the authorities have struggled to contain a surge in ethnic violence. An election this year is seen as the biggest test yet of whether his ambitious political reforms can stick. The new law permits fines of up to 100,000 Ethiopian birr ($3,000) and imprisonment for up to five years for anyone who shares or creates social media posts that are deemed to result in violence or disturbance of public order. Some 297 lawmakers who were present in the chamber voted in favour of the bill while just 23 were opposed. “Ethiopia has become a victim of disinformation,” lawmaker Abebe Godebo said. “The country is a land of diversity and this bill will help to balance those diversities.” Several of the lawmakers who opposed the bill said it violates a constitutional guarantee of free speech. Abiy, who won the Nobel Peace Prize last year for his reconciliation with Ethiopia’s neighbour and long-time foe Eritrea, has pledged that this year’s election will be free and fair. The nation of 108 million people has regularly held elections since 1995, but only one, in 2005, was competitive. The law was first endorsed by Abiy’s Cabinet in November. At the time, the UN’s special rapporteur on freedom of expression urged authorities to reconsider it, warning it would worsen already high ethnic tensions and possibly fuel further violence. International rights groups say it creates a legal means for the government to muzzle opponents. “Politicians or activists or others will be forced to be cautious, afraid that their speech might fall into the definition of hate speech or can be considered as false information,” said Amnesty International’s Ethiopia researcher Fisseha Tekle. https://www.theeastafrican.co.ke/news/africa/Ethiopia-law-jail-terms-internet-posts-that-stir-unrest/4552902-5454508-view-asAMP-xpnxa3z/index.html?__twitter_impression=true Mynd44, Lalasticlala |
https://www.britishathletics.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Perri-Shakes-Drayton.jpg Perri Shakes Drayton wife of 1st runner up in Big Brother Naija, Mike Edwards has today announced her retirement following a career that included a total of seven major championship medals. She was a 3 time world medallist and 4 time European medallist during ten years on the senior stage, has today announced her retirement following a glittering track career. Thanks for the memories, Perri! One of her most favorite quotes was when she once told a reporter “…I just went out and released the beast”. Perri Shakes-Drayton has today called time on a glittering athletics career that produced seven major international medals indoor and out from a decade representing Great Britain & Northern Ireland at the highest level. Shakes-Drayton claimed three world medals, including the indoor 4x400m relay title in 2012, and four European medals, including double indoor gold in 2013, during ten years competing in the British vest on the senior stage. She made an immediate impression on the senior stage on the track in reaching the 400m hurdles semi-finals on her World Championship debut in Berlin in 2009 – less than a month after winning the European under-23 title over the distance – and also off the track thanks to her infectious personality. After a junior career that produced European junior silver in the 400m hurdles and a world final, Shakes-Drayton kicked on from her senior world debut in 2009 to win individual bronze and relay silver at the European Championships in Barcelona in 2010. A ninth-place finish, and relay bronze, followed at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu before she began Olympic year in 2012 with the world indoor 4x400m relay title in Istanbul. Shakes-Drayton would earn selection for the London 2012 Olympic Games in her home city of London and would finish tenth overall in the 400m hurdles. She kicked on again in 2013 qualifying for her first World Championship final, placing seventh, and running the second quickest 400m hurdles time ever by a Brit, 53.67, that year after an indoor season that saw her claim the 400m and 4x400m European indoor titles in Gothenburg before injury cruelly took her away from the track until June 2016. Determined to continue her international career, Shakes-Drayton battled back to once again pull on the British vest back at her home track in London at the 2017 World Championships, where she would help the 4x400m quartet to silver. She said: “There comes a point in an athlete’s life where you’ve got to decide to call it a day. Athletics has given me so many opportunities, I have travelled the world, I’ve met some great people and I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs. I am proud of what I achieved and when I look back at the archives and see the races – the excitement I bring to a relay – it does put a smile on my face. “I have had a tough battle with injuries but I managed to come back in 2017 and get a silver medal in relay at the worlds and that was nice but now I am ready to move on. It has taken me a long time to make this announcement because it is not something easy. I have been in athletics for the majority of my life. I’ve been doing it for almost 20 years and professionally for 11 – it is a big part of me. “I am good, my body is good and it is not because I am carrying an injury it is just that I got to a point where I was like ‘I am ready to move on’. Big thanks to my coach Chris Zah. He saw the potential in me from the start at a young age and he has been there through the ups and through the downs. “Big thanks to all of the people I have met and the staff that have worked with me. If it wasn’t for athletics I am sure a lot of things that have happened wouldn’t have happened. I am a proud Olympian and it’s not goodbye, it is see you later because you’ll be sure to see me around.” https://www.britishathletics.org.uk/news-and-features/shakes-drayton-calls-time-on-glittering-track-career/ Mynd44, Lalasticlala |
Amotolongbo:Read what I wrote very well yourself. Nigeria is diversifying to other areas of economic sustainability but we still need to have reserves just as people need to save up money in the bank. |
Amotolongbo:No nation has looked away from oil. Oil is still a very high demand commodity because it is used for so many things beside in cars. What he is talking about is Oil reserves. United States has one of the highest oil reserves in the world because they buy from others and store it up. They are doing this for a reason. Nigeria is diversifying to other areas of economic sustainability but we still need to have reserves just as people need to save up money in the bank. |
Agboriotejoye:Thank you and you can carry a megaphone and rant from the top of Mount Afadja in Volta region, your rantings are like the yelling of an ant. Nobody hears you and nobody will act on it. Borders remain closed. Make use of the alternatives. If Nigerians are suffering from it as you claimed, that is Nigerias business and not yours. Go and show concern to kasapreko |
Agboriotejoye:It is now apparent you are Ghanaian which is why this is hurting you. Make use of the alternatives provided as Ghanaians. You share direct borders with Togo and will get to Benin before you get to Nigeria. Since you have about 4 countries directly sharing borders with you why is that one country which is 2 borders away your main headache? Nigeria reserves the right to do as she pleases within her own borders. We are done here |
urahara:Being a member of ECOWAS does not mean you take each other's countries and trade laws for granted. Free trade does not mean you should violate bans on goods not allowed into your receiving country |
Agboriotejoye:This is a very obtuse way of reasoning. Perhaps you thought items are not being allowed in through the borders. You are so wrong. The reason behind the closure is so smugglers can no longer smuggle but come legitimately through the borders as they pay all duties required rather than Dodge after paying duties at Benin. Those who ship to Benin and pay duties there only to now smuggle same into Nigeria without paying duties should desist from that and those items on the no import list should be stopped. The airfreight option is open as an alternative for those who feel cheated Imports through the land borders are still going on and those complaining are obviously those who before now have been smuggling in their goods without paying the duties attached. Benin cannot be among the top 5 importers of rice in the world just so they can smuggle same into Nigeria. The money they spend on importation of rice which they smuggle into Nigeria and gain from it is what we lose to them. We cannot keep getting exploited. I suggest you read up on the reason behind the ban and if imports are not being allowed in at all so this obtuse reasoning of yours can cease. |
Agboriotejoye:Yet they have customs but still have porous areas right? You admitted so yourself. Well Nigeria has done same. We have blocked the porous areas and asked you all to use the airports to freight your goods in. That is the door we have left open same way the Americans have a gate in their wall |
Agboriotejoye:So because we have customs other nations should keep exploiting us? I guess US customs and immigration are also non existent yet Trump chose to build his wall cutting off Mexico. |
Awol1:I will just ask you two questions Who are the private investors involved in this project and where is the proof that Jonathan paid anything? |
ECOWAS is wasting their time. There is an existing legal agreement between Nigeria and some ECOWAS countries regarding bringing in goods and services through our borders and the clause contained in this document when agreed demands from Nigeria are not met include CLOSURE OF THE BORDER. It is this agreement that Nigeria is enforcing and until those countries captured in the agreement meet up with what was originally agreed, Nigeria reserves the right to keep the borders closed against them. They can use the air ports to do their business |
endy69:It was killed for terrorizing the community and not for meat per say. Read the very short OP in order to get reoriented. Is it so hard to read? |
A video has surfaced of Chinese officials going round the city locking people in their homes under the instruction of their President. The video shows the official telling the frightened couple to remain indoors as they lock them inside and keep the keys somewhere close to th apartment. They instructed the couple that if anything goes wrong which they cannot handle such as a fire they should call their contact who will come and open the door for them. They said they would lock the door in such a way it could not be opened from the inside. The couple were heard protesting it as they were locked in. The corona virus has grown to an epidermic level in China and still growing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcHkkXTlu2I Second Video shows a woman recording a video in a makeshift medical facility run by the Chinese army. The video shows so many infected people helpless there as she said they were given no medicine, no shots, no hot water and no quarantine measures except for a wooden board separating each section of infected people. She was calling out for help through the medium of the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plXg3pKu1Q4 This is becoming alarming and all countries need to know the seriousness of what is going on in China as i believe the entire truth is not being told.

ONE NIGERIA MY PEOPLE ONE NIGERIA!!! She gave respect and got respect back. Respect is reciprocal and brings honour to you. The Bible says in Proverbs 22:29, “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” She has been diligent for 31 years and today in a land not her own she has been lifted and promoted. God bless NIGERIA |
See earlier thread https://www.nairaland.com/5675755/governor-zulum-surprises-obiageri-mazi Mrs Obiagelli, woman in viral video with Borno Governor, gets promotion from class teacher to assistant headmistress A level 12 class teacher, Mrs Obiagelli Mazi, who was encountered by Borno Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum 6:30 am on Friday, has been promoted to an assistant headmistress. Executive Chairman, Borno State Universal Education Board, SUBEB, Dr Shettima Kullima conveyed the promotion on Saturday after his recommendation was approved by Governor Zulum. Governor Zulum had during an outing 6:30 am on Friday to assess public institutions, encountered Mrs Obiagelli already at school, waiting for her pupils. The woman who hails from Abia state has been teaching for 31 years. Zulum met her at Shehu Sanda Kyarimi 2 Primary school under Jere local government education authority. Overwhelmed by Mrs Obiagelli’s dedication, Governor Zulum commended and rewarded her with personal cash of N100,000 nearly three times her monthly salary of N35,000. In addition, Governor Zulum directed executive chairman of Borno State Universal Education Board to review the woman’s civil service position, her qualification (which happens to be NCE) and recommend her promotion. 24 hours later, the SUBEB chairman contacted the Governor recommending Mrs Obiagelli’s promotion from class teacher to assistant headmistress. He said even though the woman was not a graduate her 31 years teaching experience and commitment coupled with an executive order by the Governor have earned her the promotion. https://web.facebook.com/355177254819159/posts/1101275263542684/?d=n&_rdc=1&_rdr

Kindly stop thinking like a dumb person. upgrade! |
eldeens:My brother i have seen a lot of shiit like this. Hatred only brings divisions and a divided house is very easy target for anyone. Once there is one united front then you will see all these suicide bombing issue die down because fear and division is the aim of the enemy but when they lose that advantage, they will move on to something else |
