FashionRe: Oscar Red Carpet by blissfullynaughty: 12:55am On Feb 24, 2009
Didn't watch the Oscars, but I must say that from the photos, I quite like Amy Adams's dress, but from some angles it looked a lil weird. . . kinda like an acquired taste dress. Really liked Vanessa Hudgens's black and white number and Kate Winslet'd dress was nice if a little boring. Really digging Marisa Tomei's dress which was the loveliest though it is grey. Halle Berry looked quite voluptuous and ravishing, and Reese Witherspoon looked chubbyish. On the whole though, contrary to Spiked's opinion, I feel that it was not as flash as the Oscars usually are. The accessories did not blow one away especially in the jewellry department.
TV/MoviesRe: Oscar 2009 Nominations Announced by blissfullynaughty: 12:05am On Feb 24, 2009
stillwater:
Why wasn't a movie from the third largest film industry in the world nominated in the foreign film category?
Maybe because just about all the films that that film industry produces is absolutely crap. By the way, how many films from the second largest industry have you seen nominated? And their films are much better than the Naija ones (not that I watch them either).

kadman:
LAST NIGHT WAS GREAT ! - I love the Oscars, but people I root for never seem to win ( except Nicole Kidman in 2003 ),but last night was a dream. 3 of my people. I've been so pissed Sean Penn wasn't winning any awards and was glad he won. Same for Penelope Cruz, she hadn't been winning anything this season,so I was thrilled when she won Supporting Actress. Then the mighty Kate Winselt ! ! !,she deserves every single awards she's won for that role, when I saw The Reader ending of last year I just knew this was her year and I don't even like her that much. Although i was getting a bit scared,I felt there was going to be some sort of Oscar backlash. And Melissa Leo's performance in Forzen River was getting rave fews ( I've seen a few clips and if it wasn't Kate's year she would have def had a chance )
I don't think Heath Ledger deserved that award,if the man hadn't died he wouldn't be getting any. And was annoyed to see Beyonce performing. I've given up my radio and stopped listening to MTV for a while to avoid that heifer.
It was also great to see people I love who never seem to be at the Oscars - Aniston, SJP & Daniel Craig.
. . . And also love the looks on Brad & Jolie's face when they keep losing every award they've been nominated for this season. Jolie tries to keep her game face on and and smile like nothings up,but you know she wakes up at night screaming Kate! Kate! Damn you Kate!"
I was a bit apprehensive thinking that our beloved Katie might be robbed of the honour at the last moment because of het Golden Globe faux pas, but YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, she got the gong at last. If Angelina take mistake talk nonsense ehn, na Sango go soda that im lips for am. Haba someone don lose 5 times, una wan make am six. Eyin aiye e le jo. About Heath Ledger, I have always said that he was going to get the award just because he killed himself. It seems that that is one way to get a gong especially if you had been denied it in the past when you deserved it (okay, I know that is not true, but it might be worth a shot if you are desperate). I was going to suggest that Kate popped her clogs if she lost again this year, but thank goodness, such drastic actions are not necessary. I do however wonder why her nomination came for The Reader instead of Revolutionary Road which was a much better performance. I just feel that they had decided to give the Oscar to her come what may (and I do think she merited it anyhow). As for Slumdog, eight awards. . . now that is quite impressive. And to think that the film was going to go straight to DVD because the big cinemas did not want to show it in the USA. That just teaches us that we should never give up on our dreams.

RomanceRe: Canadian Girl Trying To Understand Nigerian Man by blissfullynaughty: 4:59pm On Feb 22, 2009
Caper143:
[b]I'm a white Canadian woman in a relationship with a Nigerian man.  The differences in culture are still new to me so I thought this would be a good way to learn about him since I believe where you come from is a big part of who you are.

So far, he is quite sweet.   He opens the car door for me, takes me out to movies and dinner, he holds my hand when shopping in stores and compliments me all the time.  I have heard that Nigerian men are not generally romantic and yet he is, or at least he seems to be.

I really do care for him and I guess I am hoping to get some insight in how he thinks and feels from people who share his background.  He is definately someone who's actions speak louder than words because he does plenty for me but is not very forward with discussing his feelings.  Any insight any of you care to share is appreciated.  Thanks!   smiley
How long has your relationship been going on for again? You know what, don't bother answering that question. You are still in the honeymoon stage. When he gets what he wants out of you or when you have been together long enough to do those stinky farts in front of each other without being embarrassed, you can come and preach the gospel of the great romantic Nigerian male. Obviously, there are some romantic Nigerian blokes out there and yours could very well be one of them, but predominantly, chivalry is not a word that springs to mind when one thinks of Nigerian men.

Yes o. That time when my priviledges lipsrsealed were summarily withdrawn, I politely pointed out that the offending photograph had not shown any privates and asked that my ID be restored, saying I won't post any Indecency pic on Nairaland. When i didn't get a response after 24 hours, I assumed that my request was being ignored and created another ID, but when I was going through my junk mail last week, I saw that the CEO had actually agreed to lift the ban a few days after my request. So I guess I live to die another day.

CelebritiesRe: Most Beautiful To Ugliest: Beyone Or Ashanti Or Ciara Or Vivica A Fox by blissfullynaughty: 9:36pm On Feb 19, 2009
Abeg jo.

Vivica Fox is hands down the best looking (or was when she was their age mates. That woman was smooooooooking hot, and still is when compared with those others). Next will be Beyonce, then Ciara (whom for goodness-knows-what reason I cannot stand) and bringing up the rear is Ashanti. People do not appreciate the amount of make-up that goes onto these girls. Jeeez.
CelebritiesRe: Is She Hot Or Hot by blissfullynaughty: 9:28pm On Feb 19, 2009
She aint bad, but I do not consider her hot! hot!! hot!!! Too much make up and she just overdoes it. Plus, she has a TERRIBLE dress sense too often to be overlooked.

^^^ Mariah has more professional achievements than Bee ( talking about No.1s) so lets not start d Mariah vs bey shit here, 'just that Bee is a better performer and is more "in your face" than any of her female peers ( even poor Rihanna tried but just couldnt catch up)
And Mariah has a much better voice too. GBAM (Who cares about being in your face? Na that one we wan chop? undecided).

demystify:
Beyonce may have the best voice, may come from the world's riches family, sing beautiful songs. . .
I know you are not saying that she has the best voice, but I just want to nail even the ghost of any idea that she does because she most definitely doesn't when compared to even today's singers, talk much less of a lifetime of singers.

Walahi, if Ziggy Mama had not posted the second photo, I would have been wondering what all the gushing was about o. She looks good in that second photo, though I must say I have seen better photos of Miss Nnaji. And I cannot believe that a magazine would put a close-up of this second photo in their mag or on their websitw with all the shiny beads of sweat about to erupt on her face. Anyway, Genevieve has always been a very goodlooking lass.

Nope; I try to be as open and sincere as possible.
There are women that are good for sure but how many of them. Can we be sincere for once?
Sincere about what? Is it about the fact that you have a limited perspective or what? How many races and nationalities have you observed to make such a general sweeping statement?

You want sincerity? How about this for sincerity -

Maybe those women who act like you specified feel the need to lord it over their husbands after extended periods of oppression. Maybe if the man (who was earning less or who was not paying his way) kept house, swept and washed clothes and dishes, ironed, looked after the children and helped them with their homework, looked pretty, made sure that there was hot food on the table, bit his tongue when the woman rolled in at odd hours of the night, woke up in the night to feed the baby irrespective of whether or not he was tired or whether or not he had a job to go to in the morning, turned a blind eye (or was willing to forgive easily) acts of infidelity, grinned and bore it while their wife brought home a younger man as a 2nd husband, put up with it when their wife had a child (or children) by another man, bore it while their wife beat the shit out of them (as millions of women do. Not that I am advocating or condoning violence in any way, but that is the horror millions of women have to deal with from their abusive husbands all over the world) . . . maybe, just maybe if the men did or put up with all these, the women you complained about would be more humble and reasonable about being the sole or main breadwinner in the family.

When men readily carry out all the household chores as well as hold down jobs without complaining, like many women do, you'll find that what you complain about will become rarer (not that your complaint applies unequivocally or universally anyway).

Regarding the issue of female managers or bosses, any woman would tell you that it is harder for a woman to work her way to the top. You will always have people who will try to undermine her, patronise her, make her job difficult. A great many successful women find that in other to break the glass ceiling, they had to become hard nosed bitches to be taken seriously and survive in a male dominated role. Often, male workers resent a female boss. The sad thing is so do other female workers and they all resent being "bossed about" by a woman. And yes, female bosses tend to be harder and more difficult than their male counterparts, but often, they are this way because they feel that they might not be taken seriously if they do not crack the whip.

earTHMama:
Are women credible enough to be entrusted with leadership and power?

Examples:

1. Give a woman access to more money than her husband, the man is toast.

2. Make a woman a manager in a company that enjoyed harmony among employees during the reign of the former male manager, she'll introduce disparity and high tension in minutes. Female leadership is always ruthless and mean especially to fellow females.

3. A man can feed and clothe a woman for 1000 years without complaining for one day but a woman cannot feed and clothe a man for one month without putting him down over it unless she is begging the man to marry her.

How come we women are less provocative, humble etc whenever we need something from men but will turn to a tigress as soon as we have the four aces in our laps. Truly, are women credible enough to be entrusted with power and leadership both in relationships and governance?
Funmi, Do you just post these topics because you like being controversial? undecided

Maybe you should qualify your statement, cos the last time I checked many many women in the west are bosses and/or breadwinners without complaining and they manage their teams excellently. Moreover in the performing arts, many women are the main bread winner or make more than their spouses and do not act like you have stated. Isn't this a case of giving a dog a bad name and hanging it?
