PoliticsFederal Executive Council approves N900m E-ticketing deal for railways by Blue3k(op):
By Cyril Okonkwo, Abuja

Nigeria’s Cabinet has approved a 900 million Naira E-ticketing agreement with a private company for a Secure Automated Fare Collection Solution for the Railway Corporation.

Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, stated this while briefing State House correspondents after Wednesday’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Amaechi said that the agreement, which would be on public-private partnership basis, would have the company, SECURE IB, spend the sum of N900m for the E-ticketing project and receive 20% of revenue that would accrue from the project.

The minister said; ”the E-Ticketing would replace ticket racketeering, touting, corruption, among others.”

Nigeria’s railway rehabilitation programme has led to increased activities in the rail system and with the full commencement of the Abuja-Kaduna railway, many travelers prefer the train.

It is also expected that the Lagos-Ibadan railway would commence full operations even as the government plans to begin the reconstruction of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri railways.

Report says with these development, getting tickets for train travels has become increasingly difficult because of the high demand for it, leading to the activities of middlemen and touts.

It is hoped that with the introduction of the E-ticketing system, the difficulties encountered by travelers in getting their tickets will be eliminated.

Hopefully they're smart enough to plan out the logistics unlike the milk processing plant in kano. The milk farmers there have transport they supply via motorcycles or cars. They dont have refrigerated trucks or storage containers.

"From the 'ruga' to this facility, we do not have cooling system. The herders have to rush with the milk so that it doesn't spoil using motorcycles. When it gets here, we carry out our analysis then we pasteurize it or we distribute it to hawkers.

"So what I am telling you is that it is only in this facility that we have chiller. We do not have cooling van or cooling tank that we can use to transport fresh milk to up-takers in Zaria. We use taxi service to transport our products that is why we are yet to go into mass production," Usman added.

The navy needs do a better job defending our maritime domain from illegal fishers aswell. They're stealing billions from Nigeria. It would reduce fish imports and lower food prices. If foreigners want to get licensed ok but preference should be given to Nigerians. There's other fishery terminals in Rivers and Ondo that need attention.

Oduwole, however, argued that the bill should be in tandem with the realities of comparative economic values.

“There is need for a policy that will take us to where we want to be. Nigeria just signed African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement.

“We need an auto policy that will be enduring; we don’t want a policy that we will have and after a few years, we will need to change it and that is why we are calling for more contributions.

“We are doing that so as not to take away from those that have invested in it now.

“We are looking at the sector now because we want to compete with the whole continent.

PoliticsIta Enang: FG To Revamp Abandoned Fishing Terminals In Akwa Ibom by Blue3k(op): 12:30am On Feb 02, 2020
The Federal Government has promised to reactivate the abandoned fishing terminals in Akwa Ibom to complement its drive for the non-oil economy as  well as create employment for the teeming youth.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Ita Enang, disclosed this to newsmen on Saturday after the tour of facilities at the Akai Ebughu and Ibaka terminals all in Mbo Local Government Area of the state.

Enang said that over N100 billion would be required to bring the project to its full completion, adding that the project, when completed, would boost the economy of the nation.

He said that remedial measures would soon commence in the terminals to harness business activities, pending the full completion of the project.

“Part of our effort is to make sure that the economic potential of Nigeria in the sea, including agriculture, fishing, port activities and all things that can engage citizens of this country as well as generating revenue for the economy are activated.

“We are assessing the state of these multipurpose terminals which were initially conceived, planned and constructed primarily as fishing terminals but it is for all kinds of vessels and all economic activities.

“These terminals when activated can take care of the economic challenges of this country, which include fishing and all kinds of import, which would create employment,” Enang said.

The Presidential aide added that part of the reasons for assessing the project was to let the investors identify the potential of the facility and take advantage as well.

“The essence of this visit is to let investors see the potential here; some of the investors that can be interested in investing in this terminal are those who are building trollers, ships and other sea going vessels.

“We have to show them the facilities which they could use in ship building.

“Others could be interested in operating in this port for the purpose of going into the Atlantic Ocean to fish all kinds of marine life that are of export quality and can be used here,” he said.

Enang said that the Federal Government was determined to boost security at the high sea and coastal areas to curtail the activities of sea pirates at Ibaka seaports.

He said that government was also working out modalities for alleviating the plight of the people in the coastal area.

Representative of the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ovie Omo-agege, who was in the entourage, Mr Azuka Agbihi, pledged the commitment of the National Assembly to ensure the actualisation of the project.

Speaking on behalf of the people, the President of Oro Union, Mr Etim Atteh, commended President Muhamadu Buhari for sending the team to assess the abandoned terminal.

He appealed to the Federal Government to ensure an urgent reactivation of the terminals for the growth of the economy.

Stop spreading false information. Lekki port LFTZ is obviously a financing LDSP. Ibom Deep seaport is being funded by Akwa Ibom state, Federal government and Bolloré- PowerChina Consortium. It's even referenced in article.

Bolloré Africa Logistics–PowerChina International Group Limited Consortium (the “BolloréPowerChina Consortium”) has emerged the preferred bidder for the Ibom Deep Seaport Project (IDSP). This selection followed a rigorous evaluation process conducted by the Evaluation Committee convened by the IDSP Ministerial Project Development and Steering Committee (MPDSC) on competing bids received in response to the IDSP Request for Proposal (RFP). China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. emerged as the reserved bidder.

The Honourable Minister of Transportation has approved the IDSP project to proceed to the next stage of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) procurement process which is negotiation with the preferred bidder with the view to work out the investment and concession details.

TravelIbom Deep Seaport Meets Standard Requirements – Suleiman by Blue3k(op): 9:12pm On Jan 31, 2020
The Ministerial Project Development and Steering Committee (MPDSC), has commended the Akwa Ibom State Government for compliance with all the requirements needed for the establishment of the Ibom Deep Seaport.

The Chairman of the committee, A.D Suleiman gave the commendation during a meeting with members of the Akwa Ibom State Technical Working Committee for the realization of the Ibom Deep Seaport at Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo.

The chairman explained that the purpose of the meeting was to update members on the progress so far achieved for the Ibom Deep Seaport project.

He said one key factor that necessitated the meeting was to provide an avenue for the adoption of the updated Full Business Case for unward submission to the Federal Executive Council.

Mr Suleiman expressed gratitude to the Akwa Ibom State Government for the level of commitment shown towards the actualisation of the port, assuring that the project will soon receive final approval from the Federal Government for commencement of operations.

On his part, the Director General of Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Engr. Chidi Izuwah, opined that, with the level of success recorded by the Akwa Ibom State Technical Working Committee on the realization of the Ibom Deep Seaport, it is time to break grounds for take off of the project.

He urged the committee to be target driven in order to achieve the task

The Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Technical Committee on the realization of Ibom Deep Seaport, Mrs. Mfon Usoro, affirmed that with the support received from Infrastructural Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Nigeria Port Authority(NPA) and the Federal Ministry of Transportation(FMOT), the Committee has been able to go through all the internationally accepted procurement processes that will lead to the actualisation of the port.

“We have also completed works in the Full Business Case, a part of why we convened today with the Federal Ministry of Finance, ICRC, NPA, and the FMOT, was to agree on work-plan between now and end of first quarter of the year, 2020 so we can have final approval from the Federal Government on the project which is the Full Business Case”. She opined.

Mrs. Usoro disclosed that “the Committee had carefully followed the Federal Government laid down procedures for port development and the process has earned the State a reputable and biggest terminal operator in Africa with the Bollore Power China Consortium as the preferred bidder”.

While thanking the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for putting everything in place for the implementation of the project, the Chairman assured Akwa Ibom indigenes especially host communities that they will be carried along at every stage of development.

She emphasized the need for them to acquire and upgrade themselves in the requisite skills that would be needed during construction and operations of the port.

On his part, the State Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Akan Okon, also applauded Governor Emmanuel for his passion in developing the State.

He also thanked members of the committees for the efforts put towards the actualisation of the Seaport project.

Mr. Okon asserted that upon actualisation, the port will create lots of employment opportunities for the teeming youths as well as increase revenue for both the Federal and State Government.
