PoliticsRe: Ikpeazu: Despite Peaceful Environment, Abia Yet To Benefit From Oil Companies by Blue3k(m): 7:37pm On Mar 03, 2021
casdoruche:
Why do I find it hard to believe politicians in issues concerning allocations, benefit or royalties. These guys are thieves and they steal from the people in all circumstances that present itself. Its so bad.
Im guessing you smell the obvious lies. The guy is simply trying to shift blame for failure. He should've sued the oil companies if he feels they owe the state taxes.

it seems covertly, money done change hands courtesy of aso-rock via backdoor channels

Bello and ffk as poster boys say it all
Aso rock paid them for what? It makes more sense they incurred losses they couldnt stomach. The plan was stupid and not a single concession was given after this tantrum.
PoliticsRe: Ikpeazu: Despite Peaceful Environment, Abia Yet To Benefit From Oil Companies by Blue3k(m): 7:23pm On Mar 03, 2021
Dr. Ikpeazu regretted, however, that despite the cooperation shown by the companies, the State gets little or nothing in return, leaving the oil-producing communities neglected.

According to the statement, the Governor lamented that the oil companies who do business in the State do not pay taxes in Abia but rather reside in a neighbouring State from where they come to Abia with the help of heavily armed security guards to do their business and leave.
File a lawsuit instead of lamenting. If they owe taxes go collect then improve those communities if you care to.

Zenithpeak:
There are fresh tomatoes on the trays of the market women in Ibadan is a testimony that not only Northern farmers are bringing the products to southwest Nigeria.... We have some Egedes who are into the business of vegetables and peppers/tomatoes... I also saw some Hausa who against all odds smuggled their produce into Bodija market in Ibadan which means there's nothing like total scarcity of pepér, tomatoes and onions in Ibadan.

Lastly, throughout the southern Nigeria, no single person died or admitted to the hospital because of nonavailability of tomatoes and onions.

If it had lasted few months, it would have established the superiority of the north on food production in Nigeria. But now, it achieved.
I dont think a few months would've done anything but give the competition more time to flood the market with their goods. As your own examples show people defied the embargo because of their self interest profit seeking and local people would grow more of the goods. The food market works is perfect competition not a monopoly.
PoliticsRe: What did the "Food Embargo" accomplish? by Blue3k(op): 5:16pm On Mar 03, 2021
Monogamy:
The food embargo is very crucial at this time. It revalidate how sufficient each region in Nigeria are.

Northerners can not and never threaten SW with food embargo... The worst is to buy the food items from other neighboring countries cos I am sure Ghana would be the first to be of help.

SW farmers are back in the farm without the fear of being attacked by herdsmen.. If they have not been attacked, SW food production could have been more than this but lesson learnt.
I agree and it does end the myth people would starve without them. All the benefits if the gambit seems to go to SW longtern. I really cant see how the north benefited considering no laws or regulations have changed.

baralatie:
what did it accomplish?

it accomplish one basic thing we are stuck with each other till Jesus Christ comes.
It accomplished nothing essentially since Nigeria was one before the embargo.

simple inciting chaos ,disturbing the peace ,false.impersonation, engaging in acts of sabotage all are not in your constitution
You wouldn't win a case on any of this charges. Lets start will false impersonation because that's pretty dumb. Usernames arent legal identifiers is your real name baralatie? Inciting chaos is having a dumb opinion you dont agree with? What did he sabotage exactly. How was the peace disturbed when you could just scroll past an ignore it. If you really feel all this was illegal why havent you ran to the police?

The parasites were exposes. The painful thing is that the farmers and middlemen who will be affected by this fooólish move most are not the abokis who caused chaos in Oyo state. They are just forcing solidarity down the throat of innocent farmers and suppliers.
Oh well the innocent onew should've fought back or called the police compliance isnt mandatory. It's pretty funny when you realize this was just to feel important and nothing more. The plan was always stupid but they bought their own hype believing people would starve to death without them.

What concession did they get after pulling this stunt? The status quo has returned with no tangible benefits. Nairaland will look for the next story to overhype for clicks next week.
PoliticsWhat did the "Food Embargo" accomplish? by Blue3k(op):
On my previous thread on the topic all the smart people predicted this action would not last. Teetee777 Gandollaar seunlayi predicted the embargo wouldn't last a week. The drama queens exaggerating the of the importance of this event need to ask themselves why they couldn't see this coming.

Lessons:

1. These sellers don't have a monopoly on food production. This means new suppliers and importers are ready to meet demand.

2. Nobody can sustain losses indefinitely.

3. Embarking on this embargo hurt northern economy hence why the kogi governor asked them to end embargo.

4. Nigeria culture is full of empty threats and bravado.

Then u don't know northerners. They don't mind losing money in pursuit of justice. The truth is that we need this type of embargo even if it's only to remind some people that we are all important in nigeria
Go on the record and make ur prediction. As far as in concerned money talks at the end of the day. This is why these criminal elements have to force compliance illegally by detaining goods. Either way the market will correct itself imports and new suppliers will enter market. 3 months of loses and status quo will return.

PoliticsRe: What Happens when Niger Republic Finishes building Kandadji Dam on Niger river? by Blue3k(op): 8:36pm On Mar 01, 2021
BabaOwen:
Egypt going to war will wreck the Egyptian economy bro.

Ethiopia is more than 2000km away from Egypt. See the war wey Nigeria government dey fight inside her territory sef, see the billions of dollars wey don enter am.

Ethiopia knows Egypt can't do anything about it, that's why they are building it, and will likely be completed by 2022 though they have been making use of it since like 2016 or so.

Even Sudan sef don give up about the dam issue
They fought a war before without their economy getting wrecked. War is always a costly affair that goes without saying. All they would need to do leversge their superior fighter jets to destroy the target. Ethopia is landlocked so entering in from north is best option especially if they fund Tigrey militants. Remember this just hypothetical war scenario.

Please stop overhyping Egypt abeg grin
Egypts military is more power than Ethiopias. That doesn't mean any war scenario is desirable because of loses. There's not much to debate there.

The association’s National President, Chief Bako Benjamin, said those individuals calling for the boycott of food supply to the South were speaking for themselves and not the entire population of the North, which the Middle Belt is part of.
Market forces already moving as predicted. Who's really going to leave money on the table. The people talking to dress up their actions in brotherly rhetoric but they're just trying to get paid.
PoliticsRe: What Happens when Niger Republic Finishes building Kandadji Dam on Niger river? by Blue3k(op): 7:41pm On Mar 01, 2021
BabaOwen:
It won't cause war. If Egypt strike the dam, they will surely be sanctioned cause they will be seen as the aggressor.
Though it will really affect Egypt cause they really depend on it for their survival.
The question has to be what's a bigger existential threat long term the dam or sanctions. I dont think they'll strike either at this point. They best bet is to leverage in war scenario is to leverage Ethiopia ethic divisions against them. Divide and conqure works well. Work to balkanize the country.
PoliticsRe: What Happens when Niger Republic Finishes building Kandadji Dam on Niger river? by Blue3k(op): 6:13pm On Mar 01, 2021
BastardWike:
When it's dammed, the parts of River Niger around Lokoja northwards will likely dry up or become very shallow (it will also have significant adverse effects on Kainji dam that needs flood waters to run at full capacity), even irrigation in the North will also be affected thus decreased agricultural output but the downstream will not be affected because it lies within the rain forest watershed and also has lots of other Rivers that feed it including River Benue.
Most detailed comment of the thread. The north has plenty of river tributaries but they only have 20-40 inches of rain on average compared to 60-80 in the south. I suspect this is why the water resource bill was so important to them. They'll just have to access aquifers and actually get the water utilities working.

BabaOwen:
There is nothing much Nigeria can do about it. Even Ethiopia is about to complete is dam on the blue nile. The Egyptians were talking about bombing the dam before grin I knew they were just blabbing.

Now they want to settle the issue in a diplomatic way.
There's not much short of war. The logical thing to do now is to get them to pay or at least divert power to ourselves at market prices while they continue building. Why rack up debts if you wont benefit.

Ok what was Jonathan and Obasanjo excuse. I hope you know projects like these these take years of planning. The ground breaking was done back in 2011. You can read the full history of the project on wikipedia if you care to. As far as in concerned this a failure of Nigerian foreign policy in general.

SMBH:
Meanwhile Nigeria is building rail from kano to Niger.
The reason for that is obvious unlike then ignoring the dam. They want nigers cargo traffic to go to lagos ports and to increased trade. They been wanting build rails there since Jonathan's administration and Benin has been trying build rails there for 2 decades.

Stop crying and carry your stuff where ever you please. If they try to stop you fight or call the cops it's that simple.

"We need stop this blockage and see ourselves as one. There is no difference between an Igbo man, Hausa, Yoruba and Fulani if we our leaders can unite us"
We dont have to do anything. This is a you problem not a we problem. If your business is suffering you have to solve that issue. Who's forcing you to join in their foolishness?

Sarrki you dont have a source?
PoliticsRe: Nigeria To Disconnect Niger, Benin Over ₦2.60 Billion Electricity Debt by Blue3k(m):
adubam:
The reason is this:

If we allow Niger or Benin to have their Dam; it will make our water level in our dam drain significantly and would even make us not to have the capacity to generate electricity for our-self either, and may also make the river Niger water to drop which would affect source of livelihood for those who relay on that water to survive.
SmartPolician:
Thanks, boss
Bbbwings:
River niger passes through niger.
If they dam it, kasala go burst for here.
Kainji dam will be useless
kindlyheart:
i think the reason we supply them power is for them not to dam the river that feeds our hydro dam.
BetaThings:
Check the map of West Africa and the no of countries that can dam River Niger before it gets to Nigeria
We need to have good relations with those countries
Dont you know Niger Republic is already building a dam? This deal has been a absolute failure for both sides so they're abandoning it. It's not like Nigeria going to do anything to stop them.
