Honestly - there are many alternatives to cow meat, which is not healthy for you to begin with.
Let's tap into other protein alternatives.

From the comments above, I can tell over 90% are still being fed at home.

Real bread winners know whatsup in prices of foodstuff in the markets especially Lagos.

Pork is fast overtaking beef in the east.

Young people are in pig farming in the east.
These people still talk about ram and cattle.

Nigerians are habitual chest-beaters and unnecessarily boastful. It's always a mentality of US, WE, against THEM. They are incapable of shedding their tribalist viewpoint in EVERYTHING. ALWAYS very stubborn and narrow-minded.

As long as they have taken it personally, they will never tell you the truth - which is the situation is a very uncomfortable one and can't be bearable for much longer. Instead, they'll tell US That 1970s hunters will start springing up every and hunting Elephants, Buffaloes, Alligators and Anacondas for the whole Nigeria to eat.

Honestly. Very predictable, childlike mentality.

You seem not to be conversant with the product been mentioned. Tell me a market where a product like beef had been substituted or lost market share.

I gave examples earlier about the ban on imported rice. What did the ban do to price? Even with a readily available substitute.

You talking opportunity cost for a basic.

Quote me and requote me again when reality dawn's on you. BEEF WILL NEVER HAVE A SUBSTITUTE.

Did they ban rearing cattle in the south?

Cattle ranches can easily spring up everywhere in the south if beef is so necessary for some people in the south.

There is no southern state which has not got enough land to farm and feed its people.

All these northern blackmail with food and beef can move only the uninitiated.

All the years the Fulani cattle rearers were being warned to embrace modern method of rearranging cattle in ranches, they refused because of their desire to occupy the lands in the south and the Middle belt, now it has dawned on the Fulani that it’s not possible to use government instruments to occupy other people’s lands.

HOW many ''young people'' in the East are into pig farming compared to the protein needs of the tens of millions of people there?

You think a tiny handful of newcomers can cater to a huge population like that of the East?

All that will happen is that meat prices will shoot up astronomically due to scarcity.

To replace that northern supply chain of meat is not something you can just do easily. It's been there for decades.

Okay, implement total ban of foodstuffs and beef from the north to the south - now. Let’s see who cries first between the north and the south.

With the number of unemployed Northern youths hanging around every corner of Lagos and other parts of the region, Southern Nigeria is sitting on a time bomb.

Interestingly, you don't get to see as many southern youths over there in the North riding okadas; working as maiguards; hawking cigarettes, selling tomatoes, carrots, fried rice ingredients & yam on wheel barrows; cutting nails for people; trading fake forex in the black market; fetching water to sell from house to house or picking plastics from waste bins. 90% of street beggars here are these northerners unleashed on us (though mostly for no direct fault of theirs) by their wicked leaders cum religious and ethnic bigots / boko haram apologists.

So, why wait for these northerners to add banditry, kidnapping and full scale killing by fulani herdsmen to their trade until we force them out of our neighbourhoods, highways and farms?

If it's about 'blood' beef, then it's high time all Southern governors come together and invested heavily on fishing trawlers and feed their people from the abundant waters in their domain.

We all must commit to boycotting cows from the North while those who can afford it should eat chicken, pork, snails etc. Afterall, its even healthier being vegetarians. So what's the fuss over some killers blocking one of several food supply chains.

A word, they say is enough for the wise!

Pomo, roundabout, cowleg, shaki, oxtail, Nkwobi, and various orishirish.....Una well done.

We can also stop crude oil and petroleum products from going to the North. Just lock the pipeline that carry the product to the North.

The entire North can not boast of planting 1 single knob of kolanut. All the kolanut eaten in the North is from the south.

Besides, when the South strikes back,it won't be in the area of food, it will be full blown economic warfare.
