Although I understand him, and I understand where he's coming from. No disrespect to people who have worked or currently working as contract staff o, but I believe the guy's myopic view mostly stemmed from either working as a contract staff for a long time before getting a full-time job or working in a mid-sized firm with poor pay structure.

People like that will always find it difficult to believe that there are people who earn decently well doing almost the same thing they do in their workplace.

After Funtua in Katsina state, upon entering Zamfara before you reach Gusau, e get where you go drive for up to 30 minutes, na grassland and shrub you go deh see both sides of the road. Like if person dey chase you, you go run reach horizon e go still dey see you because nowhere to hide.


At some point, our vehicle stopped, and every fuckinngg person got down to push it until we saw human beings again.


When I was going to camp, we got to Wukari from Port Harcourt at around 8pm. A convoy of over 17 full vehicles heading to Jalingo and Yola.

The drivers, ALL OF WHOM WERE NORTHERN MUSLIMS, talk say them no dey go again o

Travelling inside Nigeria by road na extreme sport. Na God dey keep person.

I can relate to the bold. The vegetation in the north is crazy especially during the dry season; there's nowhere to hide in case u even say u want to run from kidnappers/bandits/robbers. Most of the green plants/weeds would've dried off due to the harsh weather such that the person pursuing u can see u clearly far ahead. There's no bush u can hide sef. Some streams usually dry up during dry season, u won't even know there's a stream there.

U can travel for 30 mins and not see a single house, just low grown shrubs by the side of the road.

Looking back now, we were really lucky we served at a time when there was no banditry/terrorism in the northwest o. Because I remember how we will leave our school to go watch champions league on Tuesdays & Wednesdays between 8.45pm and 10.30pm .

We will start trekking from the viewing center which is in the heart of the village to where our school is located in an isolated part of the village's outskirts. Sometimes we get to school around 11.30 /to 12 am. We would even be gisting while trekking by the side of the road to our school; it's usually 4 of us Corpers who really liked football like that - two Arsenal fans and two Chelsea fans.

To think all those places are now ravaged by Bandits and even foreign terrorists.

Just this last week , I know someone who was buried after she was killed by a hit and run vehicle in Oshodi here in Lagos late December. The incident didn't even make it to any news media be it internet blog or radio station sef.

The funny thing is there are places like that in the Southwest, South South, North West, North East, South East, etc. The few places soldiers and policemen mount road blocks, they just use them to extort motorist and then leave after some hours.

When I was serving in the NorthWest, one guy that came from Maiduguri told us about how nobody dares travel the Maiduguri highway once it is 4pm because the entire stretch of the road belongs to Boko Haram that time till the next morning. Not even military convoy will dare use the road within that period

As in...... There are some places u will get to while travelling on naija road and u know in ur mind that if anything happens in such places there's nothing that can save u even in road daylight.

I believe most of the kidnapping incidents happening on the roads are even under-reported. There are so many buses not GUO,GIG , peace mass transit, etc that gets waylaid on the road and they don't get reported in mainstream media

When one talks about these things, people who support/defend government always think one is exaggerating or embellishing stories just to paint the government bad.

There is serious insecurity on the highways both day and night, so may unpoliced/underpoliced corridors on Nigerian highways where non state actors operate without much disturbance from security agents.

Like you rightly said, the best way of ensuring safety while traveling is to fly; unfortunately, majority of Nigerians can't afford the high cost of flight ticket.

After about two months of back and forth , the guy was released . Funny thing is the guy came out of EFCC net and became a more hardened Yahoo boy who now goes about with police escort and Hilux . I learnt he bought a car worth 125 million naira this last December .

So u see that the so called crime they are fighting sef , they are not really fighting it to curb the crime but to take out of the largesses of the primary criminals

From all indications , the guy’s family is rich . They will definitely get some of the best criminal defence lawyers and the case will drag like mad.

I think the family of the dead EFCC guy should sue EFCC for being responsible for their son’s death . Shebi it’s the same EFCC that released statement last year that they have banned all night operations/night raid . Maybe they don’t even know the implication of some of those things .

By releasing that statement publicly , they were telling all members of the public that anybody claiming to be EFCC official and carrying out a night raid is definitely not their officer or carrying out such raid illegally . The medical doctor gunning him down was his way of treating them as criminals since their oga at the top already said they are banned from doing night raids .

If Nigeria was a country where things are done in the right way , then heads should roll within the agency . The ogas at the zones and state levels who sanctioned the raid in violation of the ban placed on night raids by the head of EFCC should be dismissed . They should use this case to reform the commission once and for all. How can officers be going rogue and then the commission will issue press statement still siding with those officers ?

The family of the deceased EFCC officer had better sued the commission for compensation for the death of their breadwinner .

A year ago the same commission put out a bold statement placing a total ban on night raids involving all their officers nationwide . By virtue of that press release they made it clear to members of the public that anybody raiding ur home in the dead on the night is definitely not an EFCC official and as such the members of the public shouldn’t treat them as one .

Now someone who owns a licensed gun saw people jumping the fence into his home and decides to deal with them as one would do criminals and not law enforcement agents . Suddenly the EFCC is refusing to address that in this their useless press release .

I know they will end up planting evidence on the medical doctor’s laptop , but the man’s lawyer will definitely get forensic experts to prove EFCC wants to rope him after he took out the officers who trespassed on his property . The good thing is that the guy is not a common poor man on the street but a man with means and resources .

To think that when Yahaya Bello whom they had “evidence” against was holed up in Kogi State government’s house they never had the liver to scale the fence and try to arrest him, it’s only against the ordinary citizens they always disregard every decency and act like criminals . Shior !

So the EFCC guys jumped into the guy’s home wearing plain clothes , the medical doctor mistook them for robbers/kidnappers and gunned them down with a licensed gun belonging to his father .
