CV, certificate,this and that, without this ,you won't do that? You must reach this before you do that..etc etc..

Especially in Nigeria where idiots thinks because they have some paper awarded nonsense,they now thinks they re higher or more human than others..
They leave practical and result aspects of ones output and focus more on rubbish..

One of the biggest lies ever sold is that Nigerian graduates inability to land jobs is due to their poorly written CVs.

Someone once posted a CV rewritten and optimized by Ogbeni Dipo's BTDTHub on Twitter.

I saw the CV and was like, is this it?

I hate the whole Your CV is the problem narrative propagated by Dipo and his ilk because It shifted the blame onto job seekers instead of addressing systemic issues.

Even with the best written CVs, if there are no jobs or the hiring process is based on connections rather than merit, getting employed will remain a struggle.

I disagree. Na these ones even narrow pass especially basketball. The league where you make money well is the NBA. There are about 400 pro players in the NBA. So the millions of boys all over the world are trying to get into the 400 spots in NBA and competing with Jokic from Serbia, Wemby from France, Giannis from Greece, Doncic from Slovenia, Siakam from Cameroun etc

Sure there are other leagues in Europe and elsewhere but none makes as much money as NBA. Total number of pro basketballers all over the world might be less than 10000 and this will include those playing for Ebun Comets of Akure and Rivers Angels

In football, there are many leagues, almost every country has a thriving pro league even though Europe is where the money is. In Europe sef you still have multiple countries and leagues where you can get a good salary

Don't shift the focus to the "oh Brazilians do well than Africans" pov pls. This is not just Africans issue. Other nationals are there too. There are many talents that are better than many in that Brazilian national team currently, not to talk of others.

I'm not here to denounce their talents. Im here to say 6/10 being from one country is highly sentimental and senseless.

Swap nationals and see how outrageous that will be. If he even did 6/10 for Africans, I'll personally criticize that kind of move too. Cos it doesn't make sense. But for now, since he's attached directly, that was a sentimental move for a club that needs several national that deserve a look in.

If I recall the events of 2013 and 2015 Nigeria U-17 campaign cycle correctly, the bulk of the players that played the qualifiers and the African championship got dropped prior to the world cup because they failed the MRI test.

Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City was one of such casualties in 2013. The fusion of the distal radius in his wrist was adjudged to be beyond the acceptable U-17 MRI threshold.

New teams were hurriedly put together and the players who made the final cut for the U-17 competition of those years all passed the MRI test conducted by FIFA so make we accept am say dem be real U-17 then.

Every other thing na speculation.

That's the reason I regard the U-17 as our most important football age cadre because they're the only players who are MRI age-tested by FIFA and are (close to) the ages they claim.

Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Taiwo Awoniyi, Isaac Success, Kingsley Michael are products of the MRI era U-17 Golden Eaglets teams who are still playing actively today.

that is why successful first generation athletes and artistes are usually from very poor backgrounds. they never had anything to lose in the first place. but you already have opportunities available to you - and your parents were weighing the risks.

and it is much worse with football in particular which has a very narrow window in which you can hammer.

She was curious as to why I didn't pursue a career in football, and I reminded her how our mum would not even allow me go for training while my mates whom we play set together had registered at a local academy where they all train.

Back then our parents see playing football as a means to waste away your future. There are enough bros in the area who followed the path of football and never made it to professional level despite being very good footballers. This speaks to the number 1 fact in that guy's thread which states that only about 1% of youth players make it to professional level. We had so many of those bros who wasted their years going for trainings, playing local competitions and even going outside the country for trials strictly on self-sponsorship level.

Some of those bros are now in their 40's now, no skill whatsoever, they didn't learn a trade and don't have education beyond ND at most. This dampened the spirit of parents, and they forbade most of their kids from towing that same line. The few ones who made it to play in NPFL, other African country leagues and eastern Europe quickly relocated their parents. Even when those ones come around and bring agents to do preliminary talent hunt/trials at the local field, the few people who still get selected still have to deal with possibility of rejection when they go for trial outside the country. The margin of success was just too low that parents will force their kids to go to school over choosing a career in football.

However, now with the advent of social media and youtube being a veritable tool for posting clips of how good an amateur player is; I think the odds are much better in favor of the young talents.

But there are some careers that are not valued in certain countries. Maybe IT skils are not valued in Nigeria that much compared to Western countries. For example Medical related professions in Nigeria. I know a few doctors post housemanship went to apply for Bank jobs and worked in a Bank in the mid 2000s. Na when you go abroad na him Doctors and Nurses get value, for Naija na same level with teachers and those Auxiliary nurse equivalent of CNA in America. In Naija Auxiliary nurse no get rating at all

I am not sure but a Bank worker probably makes more than a doctor today in Nigeria(same year of graduation).

Actually the onus is on the job seeker to jump and pass. At least they are up front about the salary. No ambiguity. Not that you will go through recruitment process, multiple test and interview and they will now tell you this is what we are offering

It is actually a typical story in employment
Depending on the company you are working in you can be doing the exact same thing as someone else for a fraction of the salary

Which is what happens to contract Staff in particular.
